Everyone knows I love a good hot dog, and if I'm nearby and you've got it... well, I'm probably gonna try it. Being a beach town and all, you'd expect more than your fair share of hot dog joints, but getting a "Bob Dog" is an Oak island staple for many people. You'll find basics here, as well as some less traditional variations, as well as specials that change now and again. The inside and outside are very no frills, but functional enough for your quick beach break. Service is counter service, and was fine for what I needed it for. We tried a few different hot dogs as a collective, and my experience is that you're likely to be happier with some of the more typical options (like the "all the way" which they call the Oak Island Dog) than you are some of the more esoteric options. I'm always gonna order one all the way as a baseline, and their version was pretty good, though I'd love to see a better bun, maybe buttered and grilled to kick it up a notch. The cole slaw is more coarsely chopped than I would like as well, but overall, good. The other dog I got on this trip had some brisket on it, which sounds good in theory, but in practice I would pass next time and just go for two all the way... or maybe a chili cheese dog. Fries were good but basic, no problem there, and the combo made for an inexpensive meal (by today's standards) like hot dogs should be.

The food is decent enough and it's a cute atmosphere, but if you're going to have dine in tables, serve the food at least on some decent cheap paper plates. They used to actually serve the food in baskets which was cute, but now everything is just served in a brown lunch sack wrapped in paper. Not very appealing for dine in eating... It's fine for takeout but step it up a little bit for dine-in. And look at the photos of these ketchup bottles that are on the tables... Absolutely gross. Spend the $7 per bottle and go down to Food Lion and buy some new ketchup bottles. This is disgusting

Several people suggested this location. Stopped in with a friend to try out. They offer boiled dogs a couple different ways. Walk up to order desk. Small indoor dining with ample outdoor seating. I really do not like a boiled dog so was not impressed. Also the bun is not special. I'll search out a grilled or hot top cooked dog location.

Couldn't have asked for a better hot dog. The unique selection of dogs was awesome. I'd highly recommend visiting this restaurant.

Quick and Yummy Dogs. It was great for young kids and affordable. The staff was friendly and efficient

Not only are the hot dogs good but they have great fries here too!

If I can post a -1 review, it would be too much. Save your $$ and Go to Walmart and buy a package of hotdogs.

We were greeted by very friendly staff that seated us in a back corner. No foot traffic over there. Server came by for drink orders and we had some time to look over the large menu. It is your typical diner food. Big portions and all fresh made. We tried the Henny Penny sandwich with side of fries and the Reuben with side of fries. Chicken was cooked perfectly on this wonderful roll. Looked delicious. The Reuben meat was chopped and mixed with the sauce and sauerkraut. Very easy to eat this way. And I love the marble rye bread. Not sure where they get their bread but both sandwiches were amazing. Fries were hot and crispy too. This is a great spot right in the middle of Southport. When we finished and left, almost every table was full, even outside tables. There are only about 8 tables inside, so when they are busy, I'm sure there is a wait. We will definitely return when in Southport. Give this little place a try. Great food and service right in the heart of Southport. 5 stars

They were pretty busy during Friday lunch before a big holiday weekend. We got our meal to go because I did not realize that they were not dog friendly. Completely my fault because I did not check ahead. I knew that surrounding places with outdoor dining were so I assumed incorrectly. Not a big deal since there are lots of benches in the area to sit by the waterfront. I ordered the Grouper Salad sandwich, my husband got Thee special that came with 1/2 lb. peel and eat shrimp, crab cake, corn on cob with sides of cocktail and tarter sauce, and my daughter got the regular lunch special with came with shrimp, crab cake, and sauces. Unfortunately, my daughter's lunch only had the 1/4 lb. of shrimp when she opened her box so she had to hoof it back and wait In line again to get her crab cake and sauces. Thankfully, I texted her a copy of the receipt because they gave her a bit of a run around regarding her missing items. I should have gone in there with her. Several staff members asked to see the receipt and then asked if she was sure of what she ordered. If I had known they were going to give her a time, I would have taken care of it myself. Don't get me wrong, I get it. I worked in food service for many years but when a customer shows you a receipt, then tells you there was mistake, and is polite about it, the customer usually doesnt have to explain the issue to multiple people. It is off putting to put the customer to task for your mistake. They gave her a free small drink, which she appreciated. Other than the order mishap, our food was pretty standard. The tarter sauce was nice and thick but was warm. The crab cake was better than some I have had but a bit dry. I cannot say the meal was worth what we spent. My Grouper sandwich was the highlight but for $10.95 and no side it won't be enough for us to return. I am glad we got to try them out while we were there. We have lots of friends that love it. I think our experience would have been better if we had eaten there instead.
