Bob's Dogs was busy but sounded good. So after a little wait we placed our order. The menu on the wall was easy to read and see what was in each dog. Prompt ordering and friendly staff. The location was a little small. But they did have outdoor seating so you can spread out from other customers. I had a Caswell Beach dog and a chili cheese dog. The Caswell Beach dog was tremendous! My hot dog had a very strong smell of decomposed meat, and the pickle had a nasty flavor. The hotdog did not have different colors, so I'm guessing the hotdog was near something that had expired long time ago. The hotdog did not smell good and I threw it away. All I could think is that the kitchen/freezer was similar than one of those kitchens/freezers from Gordon R's show where he finds large amounts of sanitary violations. The cashier was not friendly at all, she looked at me the way I looked at the nasty hotdog, with disgust. We visited Bobs Dogs and none of employees were wearing mask. They were not wiping down tables between customers. They were handing off food touching customers hands then immediately reaching for next customers food. No sanitizer. No precautions in place. I complained to the five employees not wearing mask. They were rude and did not care about safety protocols. Their response was they were busy. I demanded to speak to manager. There was no manager on site so I waited for him. When I complained to him he was equally as rude and said he was refunding us and asked what else we wanted. As a business owner I hope my customers tell me if my employees are acting carelessly but this guys employees behave that way because he is that way. Just so Joe understands, I am a LOCAL owning more than one home on OKI, not sure why that matters. I own several small business and understand how damaging Corona Virus has been to small businesses. Acting carelessly is placing the public in danger and hurting other small business owners at risk that will have to close again because of businesses operating such as this one. Act responsibly for all of us and think of the number of retirees living here. I called health department and they said I was second complaint of day on Bob's Dogs. I was simply hungry for lunch while I was pressure washing my house, as a LOCAL, and thought I would support a business I have eaten at for years. I was met with careless behavior, arrogance, rude behavior, lack of concern for our community. My complaints are not going to destroy your business your behavior will destroy it. Joe, Bob was a much better owner/ operator than you. We have been eating here since Bobs Dogs opened and we will not be back. read more

Okie dokie! :) OKI has a sweet gem in this place. Their hot dogs are really pretty darn good. My good friend had their Parrot Dog with the Jamaican Relish and I might have sneaked a little bit of the relish. Sweet and good. I had the Cheese Dog in Paradise, and it was a normal chili dog with a hint of spice. Spice but not spicy. We also had the lemonade. Like literally they are squeezing these lemons in the cups. The girl who was taking our order had made 21 that day...I felt bad for her but it was worth it! :) The negative things about this place is the price, and their menu. $2.49 for one hot dog is actually pretty expensive, but the $5.50 for 3 hot dogs is better, but that means you have to get 3 hot dogs. Their menu is actually pretty small on the hot dog end of things. For a place that is called Bob's Dogs, it really only 9 types of hot dogs and 1 type of corn dog. I would also really like it if they could tell me what kind of toppings they had so we could just pick and add whatever we wanted. I felt a little limited in what I was getting. I LOVE these dogs! My parents and I have stayed at Caswell Beach twice now (once off-season, once in-season) and both times Bob's Dogs proved to be one of our favorite spots. The dogs themselves are great - not too thin, not too thick, and they didn't get washed out by the condiments and add-ons. The buns are delicious too, more like giant dinner rolls than your standard flimsy hot dog bun. I go for the "Cheese Dog in Paradise" which comes with shredded cheddar cheese and some of the best hot-dog chili I've ever had. My mom goes for the "OKI Dog" which comes with slaw, chili, mustard, and onions. My dad has ordered a burger a couple of times and was plenty satisfied. One caveat about this place is that they don't serve fries, which one might expect. Just chips. But they do have ice cream and really good frosted cookie concoctions. They also have great homemade lemonade. Another caveat - it is small, maybe not the best place to go for large groups. They have a few tables inside and a few tables outside. This was never a problem for us, though, as they were never too busy - a good thing since my mom hates a long wait. The atmosphere is casual island style, with a Jimmy Buffett soundtrack. Only a little kitschy. Service is generally good for a place with only a few people working at a time. Off-season hours were 11am - 2pm and in-season hours were 11am - 8pm, great for both lunch and dinner. This was our go-to place when we didn't want to spend a fortune at one of the over-priced seafood joints but didn't feel like cooking in our rental house. Great place! read more

The hotdogs here are absolutely delicious! I am not usually a fan of hotdogs but I am very glad I tried this place! I had the surf & turf hotdog which has shrimp & homemade cocktail sauce on it... This is definitely a must try!! The hotdog with homemade pimento cheese on it is also very delicious!! The only down side I would love to see at Bobs Dogs, would be the addition of French fries to the menu, but the atmosphere & unique hotdogs, almost make up for the lack of fries. read more

Thanks to yelp I found this gem while exploring Oak Island today. If you are looking for a great lunch before the beach, that won't break the bank. This is the place for you! Whoever thought shrimp on a hotdog with cocktail sauce would be so delicious? I'm not even a big shrimp guy, but it was an interesting crispness to a dog with the subtle spice of cocktail sauce to pull it together. Jennifer was absolutely amazing, making me feel right at home and talking me into getting a macadamia cookie sandwich with key lime frosting filling. It was almost as if she knew what I loved and threw it all together! Before leaving, they also talked me into trying a taco dog. We were starving but not wanting to eat too much. Bob's was the perfect spot for us. We had the alligator dog and the OKI hamburger and a couple of bags of chips. Alligator dog was spot on--delicious, quality hot dog cooked so the outside was just firm pickle on the dog was not too big so it was easy to bite. The bun was toasted and warm (always a plus.) I am disappointed with Bob's Dogs with the new ownership. The boy getting our ice didn't use gloves and threw the scooper back into the ice. The girl making hot dogs didn't have gloves on and kept fiddling with her hat while making the orders. I'm picky about where I eat and cleanliness, that is why I used to like eating here. read more

Ahhh, Bob's Dogs; an exciting story to tell. A staple of my trips to Oak Island, it welcomes all that seek the legendary creation of the "Hot Dog". This is no ordinary hot dog joint, I must say. This is the birthplace of the BEST hot dog I have ever had. Let me explain for you! Food Quality (+): Simply amazing. Their hot dogs are the most popular food here (Hence the use of "dogs" in the name), and exceed all expectations. Their buns are perfect - shiny and very slightly buttery. The dog itself is perfection - the meat being delicious and outdoing the competitors. Although their forte is their hot dogs, they also carry Burgers, Fresh Lemonade, Brunswick Stew, and other things of the sort. Note - They do not have fries but they carry Lays chips. Environment (+): Another thing to add to the list of "Done Right". A nice interior that gives you beach vibes (Complete with parrot decorations and all!) and a pleasant outside seating area for when it isn't too hot or the inside is crowded. There is limited seating inside, so you may end up being required to sit outside or just go home. When you leave, there is a bell to ring that signals to the staff "It was good!" - which I always get thanked for ringing. A great place to eat a great hot dog! Service (+): The staff are extremely friendly compared to the staff in some of the other places on the island. When you order, you'll see everyone behind the counter usually has a smile on their face! They are very fast, also, so you should never have to wait too long for your food. Once you have ordered, you choose a seat and wait for them to bring it to you. Very convenient and fast! The people giving you the food are just as amazing as the food itself! So at the end of the day, you have an excellent hot dog that gives people yet another reason to come visit Oak Island. Stopped by for a quick lunch coming home from the beach. Plenty to choose from on the menu but my friend and I both ended up with the Cheese Dog in Paradise and fresh squeezed lemonade. The chili was seasoned very well and the cheese wasn't processed, melted cheese but rather just the right amount of shredded cheddar. Very clean establishment with a friendly staff and island decor. The buns are extremely soft and lightly buttered. Today we ordered the following; Tiki Dog- Not bad. BBQ sauce added a bit of flavor to the brisket but overall it was fairly bland. Chubby Dog w/ Jamaican Relish- Really good with a nice smokey flavor from the sausage. The relish complimented it well. Cheese Dog In Paradise - Pretty good and not overly messy. My daughter said the chili wasn't especially flavorful though. Parrot Dog w/Jamaican Relish- Very similar to the Chubby Dog just minus the smokey flavor. Surf & Turf- Really good. Shrimp, cocktail sauce, and coleslaw are not what I expect on a hot dog but hands down the best. Island Dog- It was okay. The mayo didn't have much of an impact but the Mango Salsa provided a really nice crunch to it. The fresh squeezed lemonade was very tasty and my family had the Macadamia Nut-Key Lime Filling cookie. Our friend had a dot with mustard and slaw, liked the slaw a lot, but thought there should have been more of it. I'm not as crazy about hot dogs as they are, but I had the Island Dog, which comes with mango salsa and mayo. I had mine without mayo. The salsa was very tasty, with a great balance between sweet and hot. We all thought the dogs themselves were very good, and the buns were as good as all the other reviews say. There's a dog named for all the adjoining towns, If want lettuce tom pickles the'll put it on a bun,One of mine had pimento cheese must chili onions,and I liked it..If you want bacon and a bag chips and some good chicken salad, plus a couple different kind of salsa's. I was pretty excited about getting a hot dog at Bob's hot dog, considering my name is Bob. I was very disappointed in the hot dog is it came out with a bun smushed around the hot dog in the rapper and could hardly eat it. The pimento cheese dog had cheese stuck to the rapper and could hardly eat that. Additionally I asked for a glass of water, tap water, it was going to cost me $0.26. What a nice little place. Super friendly. My husband had the foot long Nathan's dog and I had an OKI dog which was very good.
