Picked up my '14 Jetta today and she feels brand new! Every time my present or past cars have required repairs, it seems as though the magic repair number hovers around $1,500 or more. Terrible service! Brought my Jetta in because it was running rough. Had a check engine light on. After A few days of them working on the car they gave it back to me still running just as bad. Said they turned off the light, just to have it turn back on again. Towed vehicle back to them to fix it only to talk to them days later. They wanted to "Turn the head over to look at it." At that point i realized they were not interested in repairing my car but taking my money. Came back in. They showed me a box of parts (not sure if they belonged to my car). When i asked for help on the payment, the son just told me it was drivable like i shoud be happy. They should have been able to fix my car but they didn't. I happened upon a neighbors friend who works on cars. He looked at the vehicle for a few minutes. Changed the spark plug wire and got it running without a problem. They charged me hundreds to do nothing. I will never return here and will always tell people to steer clear of this place. Run by a father son duo that only wants to rip you off. DO NOT GO HERE. Complete waste of time... I called Tuesday (May 2nd) to get a quote to get my alternator pulley replaced that I diagnosed myself. Guy answered was neither rude nor friendly but gave me an estimate of $380 and that he needed to order the parts. Also said he's never seen that before. I say ok and he askes when i can come in and I say this Friday if that's possible. I get there at 7am and when I told him what I was there for he remembered and said "your going to leave your car here right". I didnt expect that but I say ok and that he would give me a call around 10am. Fast forward to almost noon and he calls me saying its coming from the alternator and he'll work on a quote for me...... another hour passes and he tells me I need a new alternator and gave me a quote for $910.... I politely declined and picked up my car where I was charged $121 for a diagnoses. I knew what the issue was I was under the impression I was coming in for a repair NOT to get my diagnosed just to tell me it was what I said it was.. plus it CAN be justr the pulley and not the whole alternator. They are replaceable on these cars. All in all I wasted 6 hours of my life and basically lit $120 bucks on fire, complete waste of time... read more

Look elsewhere. I dropped my vw off here due to a knock sensor. long story short they couldn't fix it and charged me for a "new wiring harness" which came out to be about 1,100 bucks. At that point I just wanted the car out of their hands asap! Not to mention you have to call repeatedly to even get some sort of update. I was having a few issues with my honda and didn't really know anyone with much auto background. I brought my car into bobs knowing they may not be able to do much for me but they more then fulfilled me needs and questions. Very friendly, and great customer service was what I experienced here. They checked out my car without asking for one dime and recommended other great mechanics who could help me with my honda problems. This man is a crook! My wife took her vw to this guy and he quoted us $1500 for a cracked head gasket. When i got involved he was immediatly rude and did not want me involved and it showed. He was pushy, a liar and flat out rude. When the dealer advised us that it may just be an oil cooler, we asked Bob and he then got very fidgety and tried charging us an additional diagnostic fee to check it. **Update** Dropped my bug off at Bob's to have them take a look at the engine and transmission. I couldn't get the bug to run with the new carburetor I put on it and the tranny was leaking fluid. They called the next day with an estimate to fix the problems. They also found a couple more problems that were causing the engine no to run right. Turns out the carburetor wasn't really the issue. The gas tank was rusting, causing damage to the fuel pump and clogging the carburetor. They could have just cleaned the carb and sent me down the road. (like another shop in town did.) I would have ended up having the same problem all over again. Instead they spent the time to find and fix the problem at the source. All and all, Bob's kept the price fair, within the estimate and the bug runs better than it ever has! Lets be honest..... No one likes taking their car to a shop to be worked on. You almost never get good news. That's why it's at the shop in the first place. But, I have and will continue to recommend Bod's as a reliable and honest shop. read more

I recently had my car towed to this shop. It was a Saturday nearing the 12 o'clock hour and he was nice enough to wait for the tow to come before he closed up. I was so grateful as I am not from the area and needed the get the car to a nearby VW shop. Bob, the owner, said he'd call me Monday after he looked under the hood. He called and said he'd have to take the transmission out to see what was wrong because he couldn't diagnose without going in. He said it would be $180. That's when things started to go downhill. When he called to tell me what he found, he told me what he was going to have to do and the cost. I wasn't doubting what he said was wrong but I handed it over to my boyfriend at that point which must have set off Bob's alpha male complex. My boyfriend just wanted a list of things that were wrong and costs. Bob got really rude and arrogant. He didn't seem to want to explain any of that, which set off alarm bells. I decided to have the car towed back to where I live and think about whether it was worth fixing. I was having the car towed to a friends house who is a master mechanic and said he'd look at it to give his opinion. Once I told Bob, I didn't want him to do the repairs he really got bent out of shape. He got really difficult. I told him it wasn't necessary to put the transmission back in. My boyfriend would go down there with his truck to transport the transmission and oversee a tow. When asked if he could rig the vehicles front end so I could ready it for a flatbed tow he wasn't very helpful. In fact, it almost seemed like he was heading toward holding us hostage and force us to put the transmission back in so he could charge for that. As it was he changed his $180 charge to $225. I didn't complain about that, I had to do it and he was good enough to help me out when it was towed to him on Sunday. That was what it was. But...when my boyfriend got there, Bob was zero help with getting the car. The car parts were not together, he didn't walk him over and show him where everything was at. He just motioned...'over there!'. I'm hoping that he didn't hijack any of the parts that he took off my car out of spite and made sure everything was there. Look...sorry you are mad that I decided to not have you repair the car but you lost my trust. You maybe on the up and up but reading the reviews here, you probably are not...you just came off as shady as time went on. His staff were cut from the same cloth as him. Very rude and not helpful. My car is no longer in his shop and is now in safe, trustworthy hands. I give him two stars because he did wait for me after closing on a Saturday. And at the time seemed to be very sympathetic and his shop gave the appearance of being knowledgable, upstanding VW only repairs. But it ended there. Do not bring your VW here. Do not go to his car shop with the last place I'd rather go out of town I spent $645 to get my ECU fixed. Its what they diagnosed a WEEK later I pick my car up drive off next day same problem arises. The owners son , the mechanic told me just pound my cars dashboard that should fix the problem. If that didn't work to bring it back and leave for another week??? If you can't diagnose the problem within a week and supposedly fixed why the fuck would I bring it back and spend more time cause I don't need me my car? And to add my oil pump that wasn't leaking before is all of the sudden leaking. And That's not it!! I take my car to get smogged a week later and air flow intake is not even attached to my car and another part for the air intake also not screwed on. Luckily my smog guy noticed before we try to smog! Finally got my car back from a reliable shop Convenient car care and it was my abs module so what they replaced at Bobs scam shop wasn't even needed so basically a diagnostic is to much for Bobs scam shop to do. Buyer beware bought a car and it was dead within 100miles due to old timing belt!!! you would think the basic maintenance would have been done but this car was the only one I test drove that didn't have a slipping transmission!!! First off! When you do major work on a car IE (head gasket), you need to check the fluids of the car before you give the car back! 1. told Bob(owner) that i was driving to go pick up a new coil pack for my car, which was going to be from Stockton to Sacramento. They never even thought to look at the oil level after doing 2400.00 dollars worth of work on my car! i drove to Sacramento with two quarts low of oil. when i got home i heard ticking coming from the engine, dipstick showed ( after cooled, and level surface) not a single mark of oil, took it to the place where i usually get my oil changes they looked at it and said i was about 2 quarts low (about), i also didn't tell the oil guy what had happened in order to not receive a biased guess. 2. when i received the care back they charged me 90.00 new plug wires. when i looked i had for new and two old used red wires. they say the new wires weren't good? but charge for defected use wires and then give me two old ones? come on really? 3. They cracked a small part of the coil pack, said they had no choice? well didn't disclose to me that it was broken. and that it was still misfiring. 4. Radio worked before it went in the shop, didn't work after done, maybe minor i realize. 5. Said that the blinking coolant light was due to the sensor in the overflow reservoir bulb, so they charged me for a new bulb, and gave me an old cap for it and the light is still blinking. 6. it took over two weeks to fix a head gasket and a coolant flange, they said that parts never showed up like they were suppose to, 7. At 80 bucks and hour i rather of paid the dealer 110 per hour, fixed it right, had it done in a few days, then i would not have spent over 450 in rental car fees. I would not recommend them to anyone, not even the poor guy who breaks down the street from them. Take it to someone that has more professionalism and can admit that they made a mistake- and i quote " we may have over looked the oil thing..." over looked... you didn't check it after a major repair? Typically, I don't do reviews but noticed some of the negatives here so thought I would at least offer my experience. Been going to Bob's since buying my wife's 2004 New Beetle diesel(yes diesel, they do exist outside of CA). While VW repairs are not inexpensive, Bob has certainly beat stealership prices hands down. Just picked up the car this morning from it's first clutch replacement(after 240K mi) and it runs just like it did before the clutch failure...same feel, pressure, everything. Cost: $1030, Stealership quote: $1740. That's a HUGE difference. Bob has changed the turbo, fixed the power steering, replaced belts and hoses, and has done all routine maintenance and I've never had a problem. He's even researched finding used parts to offer me the cheaper option. It's hard to imagine someone calling him dishonest...maybe just a misunderstanding of what was said? Anyway, I have no reservations recommending him to service Volkswagon products. Lou read more

Took my daughters car to fix a leak which was found by a oil change place... this is my daughters first car for college .. he told me it needed a serpentine belt power steering belt and lots of other little things total was $1160 thank god I just got my taxes to just cover this I want her to be safe since her school is out of town ..
