Bob's Grill was a neat place in OBX to have brunch. A group of 13 went and we were asked if we had to separate the party, would we be ok with that? We were...we were starving. But, alas, we did not have to separate. A large party got up and paid their checks shortly after we walked in. We all were given a menu to look at as soon as we sat down. I ordered a water and coffee with milk instead of creamer but the waitress said they'd have to charge me for the carton of milk. This is odd, as I don't have to pay anywhere else for milk in my coffee. But I decided to use cream instead, which I don't like. This is fine. I ordered Brent's special with prime rib, eggs, toast and hash browns. The prime rib was sliced very thin but flavored well. I think no matter how you order it, it'll be well done. It's just too thin to get any other preparation. The hash browns were homemade and delicious. I got it extra crispy and loved them. The food was good but the waitress kind of came off as rude at some points. I'm not sure if that's the purpose of the place but one conversation went as: Her - "Bret's special" holding the plate of food Me - (no response) Her - BRET'S SPECIAL Me - looks up to see its my plate "oh! Wow! Wow! Wow! Best meal and service my family had in OBX for any meal. If you are visiting or live in this area you need to go to Bob's. Chicken fried steak, grits, eggs and biscuits were amazing. Kids pancakes were the size of hubcaps. Wife got eggs over easy, cooked perfectly, with corned beef hash, grits, and a biscuit. Side of fruit was extremely fresh. Hash browns looked to be a full large potato chopped up and grilled on the flat top with some onions, so good. Coffee cup never got past half a cup. Service was so good!! Value was even better. Another swing and a miss on the OBX mini-vacation. The pancakes look good when you see them on the plate, but they are chewy, dense and relatively flavorless. I can make good pancakes at home. It's not difficult. The sausage was good, but this is absolutely a 1500 calories for breakfast and run back to the hotel to go to the bathroom type of establishment. It's crowded, loud and the staff seems to have trouble keeping up with the amount of people going in there on a Monday morning during tourist season. One thing this trip has made me realize is that as a person who no longer drinks on the beach all day cause sober, there's nothing to do in OBX other than blow money on sub-par food and lay around. We came in for our last day of vacation for a quick breakfast. Normally our family goes to Henry's up the street. Never again. Bobs service and food was so much better. Bobs although very crowded. When I go to the beach, I have a rule: dinner must be seafood, local when possible. I love (to eat) all of the briny deep's denizens, and during my most local trip, I happily dined upon tuna, crab, shrimp, oysters, mahi mahi, and grouper, and a happy camper was I. On our second to last day, however, lunch time rolled around, and I found myself urgently desiring cow. Having noticed the sign from the road, we decided to follow the stated instructions and went into Bob's to eat and get the hell out. We were waited upon by Bob himself, who was brisk but not brusque. I ordered a burger and fries and took in the kitsch while we waited on our meals. The place certainly plays up its slogan: there's something hilariously shameful about a restaurant selling thongs emblazoned with "Eat and Get the Hell Out." The kitsch was forgotten when our food came out. The burger was a standard burger, but it was delicious and it satiated my sudden carnivore-ism. The real surprise was the fries, which were damn near perfect. Golden and crisp on the outside, creamy and tender on the inside. I can't remember the last time I had fries that good anywhere. Only thing to improve would have the bacon warmer. They were perfectly cooked and a little ketchup later perfectly seasoned. Everyone's eggs were great, the toast was, well toast. And my Blueberry hotcake was good as well. While this was not our first visit to Bob's it was the first time I sampled the lunch menu and used the restroom. The wait staff is friendly and helpful but the food itself is generally run of the mill for a breakfast joint. It was late enough in the morning that I decided to scope out the lunch menu and was intrigued by the fact that they had po'boy - my 'go to' at any restaurant where it's available. I ordered the oyster, light fried at the suggestion of our waiter. The serving size was nothing to scoff at, coming in as the largest po'boy I've ever ordered and a side of remoulade never goes unappreciated, I wasn't however impressed with the choice of doneness, as the meats were borderline raw. The restroom served its purpose but left much to the imagination and the soap dispenser had fallen off the wall.
