First off- pro tip- Always get their signature Scotch Kisses! Get more than one and thank me later. Scotch Kisses are their homemade caramel wrapped around a soft marshmallow. Holy moly. The best!! I bought one and will now dream of this candy confection for months to come. I need to check if they ship these! Wilbur's wide variety of candy is housed on their second floor. Head upstairs. They had just started decorating for Halloween and you could not pick a better spot to find in the month of October. Candy + Halloween = Perfection. I stocked up on some Halloween themed candy and even found some Pumpkin Pie Jelly Bellies there! Woah, First time trying them and yum. I found my classic rock candy there too. I am more of a sugar candy fan than chocolate guy, so the upstairs was like a dream come true. I even found a pack of Fruit Stripes gum! Classic. I can't believe the bag of candy that I walked out with for under $20. Support local and frequent Wilbur's. The next time I am in Maine, I will most definitely be back! P.S. I have it all written out, so we know where we'll be going. Kind of like... when in Rome, do as the Romans do. For me, I need to know ahead of time what that'll be, so we can do them. Such was the case with Wilbur's of Maine Chocolates. Don't remember now where I read about this place, but some blogger mentioned them with high praise, so on my list this place went. We made a point to stop by Wilbur's on our way to Boothbay Harbor (also in Maine for those who don't know), and we are so glad we did. This is primarily a candy shop... but it is so much more. They have other food items, home decor, gift items, and of course, lots of chocolate. We bought a couple of stuffed animals for our grandchildren, as well as some flavored sauces in a jar (to be poured over ice cream), and we couldn't leave without buying some chocolates ! We tried some chocolate-dipped orange rind and a few truffle flavors as well. Everything was very fresh and tasty. If I'm ever fortunate enough to be in Maine again, I'm sure we will stop here again.

The trees were loaded with blueberries. Although my pictures don't do justice, they were full. It was easy to pick a full pint or quart just standing in one spot. After we picked our container full, which they supply the containers. We headed back to the store so we could make our purchases. They do have a lot of wonderful foods inside as well, some candies, and drinks, full homemade pies and maple syrup and so on. Something for everyone. Cashier was very nice. And helpful. It was laid back on a Sunday afternoon. Not a lot of people around. And we actually were the only ones in a whole section. The also do apple picking in the fall. And I bet that's super fun with hay rides and mazes and everything made of apples.

Well, stop I did, to see if they had a gift for a friend's birthday. First, I love any store that smells like balsam as you walk through the door. The scent makes me feel like a kid again. I'm not from Maine (have been here long enough to feel at home), but as a kid we used to drive here from Ohio and spend a few weeks going up and down the coast. The smell of balsam reminds me of these trips. Second, I was shocked by the variety they had. Maple syrup, Maine souvenirs, crafting supplies, wooden figurines, and antiques. The have a sign stating that they "glue chairs". I didn't know that was a thing, but apparently, it is... They also sell wreaths and Christmas trees during the appropriate season. And finally, the owners were as nice as could be. They had out hot chocolate for the kids, and they wrapped my little gift up neatly. This little shop is well worth the drive into town because of how darn cute it is!
