A friend suggested a stop at Bob's for lobster rolls. It was an insanely rainy drive and I got there first. The menu had a lot to offer and just about at the moment I went to order the lobster roll, I noticed a 2 lobster special for $14.99. Granted, it was JUST two lobsters with melted butter, but to be fair, add ons like a baked potato, cole slaw, fries, corn or even a small chowder, were really inexpensive. So...I settled on the 2 lobsters and waited (inside) for my friend. I could see that there was a lot of outdoor seating, some even under cover, which would be great on a fair weathered day. This was not to be on my visit. The indoor tables were plenty comfortable with a large roll of paper towels on each at the ready. Once my friend arrived and we both had our orders, everything was looking pretty spectacular. The lobster roll was $16 but looked pretty jam packed with lobster. My two steamed lobsters, by the way, were damn fantastic. They were soft shell and easy to crack. The staff was beyond friendly and helpful. I will absolutely be back again. In the greater Portland area it's always tough to recommend a Maine lobster joint to out-of-towners. Typically, I suggest the Lobster Shack in Cape Elizabeth for both the food and the location. After this stop, I will definitely add Bob's Seafood in Windham as another option. read more

Bob's is awesome. They did a great job packing 8 lobsters for our drive to Tennessee. They were flexible and very kind about our wavering departure, because of a car issue. Upon arrival to TN, we opened our beautifully packed, mostly still alive, lobsters and had a feast! For me, it was well worth the 15$ for the packaging (it was around 15$, can't remember the exact price). The packaging involved wet newspaper, ice packs, a styrofoam cooler, and a box. It may sound simple, but the convenience of this was worth it. Since then, I've eaten at Bobs a few times and for classic Maine seafood, it's great. The fried items are fried correctly. The lobster is fresh. The French fries are hand cut. There is outdoor seating and inside tables for inclement weather. The service has continue to be stellar. The workers are insanely nice and helpful. *beware* lines can get CRAZY long, come before or after regular dinner rush hours read more

I don't usually leave negative reviews but after my experience here today, I am compelled. I am so disappointed by the way I was treated. Local people support your business through the winter. You should treat us better! I ordered fried clams. I ate three. They all tasted rotten. Anyone who eats clams knows the flavor I'm talking about. It's not a big deal. It happens every once in a while. I wasn't upset in the slightest. I was in a great mood, having lunch on the patio with my husband and parents. I told the waitress that the clams were off. She was nice and said she would be right back, but left the plate in front of me. I sat there as everyone else was eating and waited...and waited. Until, a blonde woman who I assume was the manager, though I'm not sure because she didn't introduce herself, came over and said, "I heard there was a problem with the clams." She proceeded to tell me the chef cooked a few, tried them himself, and he said they were fine. I tried to explain myself politely. I know what I tasted, and they were BAD! She made me feel very uncomfortable, like I did something wrong or I offended someone. I didn't want to order anything else after how I was treated. Classic Maine. Awesome clam chowder (no pork!) and lobster rolls. Reasonable prices. They offer combos which I really appreciate. I got the 1/2 lobster roll, clam chowder and chips for $15. Their menu is huge and full of different seafood! Probably my third favorite lobster roll in Maine behind Eventide and Bite into Maine. They also have baked potatoes, French fries, coleslaw and all the other fixings you'd expect from a fried seafood place. Even salt water taffy! read more

2nd trip to Bob's Seafood in three years. (I live nearly a 1000 miles away so I must have liked it the first time). This is a great Seafood dive-no frills. The seafood is super fresh-you can pick a swimming lobster to eat. You eat off of picnic tables (inside or outside). Outside is a bit noisy since you eat less than 100 yards from Route 302, which seems to be one of the busier roads in this area of Maine. Picnic area is clean; however, and seems to be a more appropriate way to eat seafood in Maine than from a clothed covered table. I had the Lobster Roll and Cup of Clam Chowder. The lobster roll had generous amounts of meat and clam chowder was creamy, steamy, and swimming with nugget sized clams. Too say the least, it was yummy! My wife and oldest elected to try their hands at cracking steamed lobsters. They enjoyed the experience. I enjoyed watching them make a mess of themselves! If there's one negative aspect about Bob's is dining in during evenings in the summer. The indoor seating lacks much air conditioning. Outside is a decked picnic area that has high exposure to the setting sun. It can be a bit warm. It appears much of there business is for take out. In spite of a warm dining experience, it's a wonderful place. If you're in the Sebego Lake District, this is a great spot for your Lobstah! read more

Extremely disappointed by Bob's. 5 of us went to dinner last night, it took 2 hours to get our food. No apologies, no explanations, at the hour mark when we asked where the food was we were told "yours is the ticket up, it's being plated right now". It was another 50 minutes before we got our food. Drinks took 1/2 hour to arrive. Every other table around us was served, tables who arrived after us ate their dinners and left before our dinner arrived. Ridiculous. We were basically trapped because it was after 9pm by the time the food arrived. The waitress did not send the manager over, in fact she stopped coming by once we'd asked about the food a second time so when it finally arrived all our drinks were empty and never refilled. Manager didn't help, no discount for awful service. Some of the food overcooked, other cold. Never again. read more

I had the baked-stuffed haddock and a cup of clam chowder. So fresh and flavorful! The new taproom had a nice large bar, however it was very loud. I was there around 6pm and I could not hear my friend over the sound of others in the taproom. The room trapped sound. I was one of the lucky few to get a table in the taproom. There weren't a lot of tables. There were other tables strewn throughout the establishment near the original fish market, but they seemed out of place. I would not want to sit there. Waitstaff appeared to still be figuring some things out. I received my appetizer without silverware. My glass was empty for a while and I couldn't find my server for a refill. I was done with my meal for about 15 minutes before they came with the check. I look forward to coming back to this place later in the summer to see if this place lives up to the potential it has! Stopped to grab some Lobsters on the way back to Mass. service was outstanding, they packed my lobsters in a cooler and off we went, and pricing was outstanding. For a point of view, I grew up in Maine pulling traps every summer , and I've been in the restaurant business for 25 years and my wife and I are both foodies. Coming back from a long day driving around the Sebago region, had a marginal experience (ok, bad) on 302 with a sandwich shop on a different expedition, don't really know the area so rolled the dice on Bob's. I think we originally drove by it and then turned around for some reason. Very glad we did. Walking in the modern finishes immediately seem a bit too sharp and shiny and have me on my guard. Why do this here? In a Lobster Pound? I was once served on a square plate in a beach community (York Maine) restaurant called the Blue something. The message was obvious: we are not your simple, convenient beach location that will serve you mediocre to good food and then melt into your memory once you are gone. We are special and you will remember us because we have just served your meal on a square plate. And they were right, I did remember the experience for two reasons: because I was served on a square plate (they were right about that) and also, and mostly, because it sucked. The whole thing backfired because the suckiness was amplified by the square plate because it was so pretentious, disingenuous and totally inauthentic. I will remember Bob's because it was truly great that night, and also because it had a surprisingly sharp interior. This concept is analogous to a company with strong operating leverage; it can work out really well or be a total disaster. We came to learn Bob's had transformed from a classic clam-shack into a true restaurant. I believe it was Bob himself who sat us down and explained the whole story. We had to sit by the hostess station because the place was so full. It's also a bar, and a cool one with a sensible, square profile that puts folks right in the action. I know we each ordered the Baked Stuffed Haddock and I think we had fried clams (bellies) as well. It was one of those rare experiences were literally everything was perfect. The fish was tender and firm and the stuffing was well done and not overwhelming. What really stood out was the asparagus. I never expect asparagus to be cooked to my definition of 'properly': softish on the inside and slightly browned and charred on the outside. They were done exactly this way. I'm not sure I've ever been this surprised. Service was great and I thing there is some kind of outdoor area for warmer weather. We were scoping for places around the lake, and when a deal fell through, one of our biggest disappointments was that we wouldn't have a reason to be in the area anymore and eat at this place. We're still poking around so will probably have at least one more meal here. I would also forgive them if and when we go back the asparagus are not done to perfection and the stuffed haddock is not utterly fantastic; the meal was just that good and there seems no place to go but down. This is very unfortunate to write because I wanted to love this place so much. As a resident of maine, my family came to visit for a few days and we wanted to try out bobs as we had heard many good things about their food. We were told it would be an hour to hour 15 until we are seated (more than 2 hours before close), we said that would be fine and continued to order some drinks in the outdoor seating area. We were seated at 7:45-8ish (1 hour till close) and given menus. Not long after a waitress came up and told us it would be an hour till we could receive food as they close at 9. We said this was fine. She came over 15 minutes later and told us at this time the kitchen would not take our orders. Hungry and having spent 80+ dollars on drinks we asked to speak to a someone about our experience. The manager told us we can figure something out and offered a gift card or discounted meal. We said whatever is easier for them and we would make time to come back the next day at an earlier time (430). We did this hoping for a delicious meal and better experience however we were seated quickly and told all they could do was "prioritize" our food. Which even then did not seem faster than any other restaurant wait. Food while delicious did not make up for the experience we shared. If you do come here GO BEFORE 5pm with a larger party. If we were notified earlier that evening that it was possible we would not be served we would have been understanding and have been able to find another option to eat that was open. We will not be returning unfortunately and I hope management can improve upon some of these concerns. read more

Still dreaming about my meal here Friday night. Best baked stuffed haddock I've ever had, hands down. Loved that I could actually taste the fish instead of it being a boat of butter or creamy sauce. Perfectly cooked sides, extremely fresh. Even the fried haddock bites we got for an app were perfectly cooked - batter wasn't greasy or overwhelmingly thick so you could appreciate the fresh quality fish. So flavorful, huge portions. My wife and I did a training brick prepping for next weekend's Pirate Tri at Point Sebego. We completed an open-water swim at Crystal Lake, and then, a 16-mile bike ride. Afterwards, we decided we wanted a lobster roll. Mary has been to Bob's in North Windham before; I have not. She indicated that they had a decent lobster roll. We both had the lobster roll. It is served on a toasted white hot dog bun (see my other reviews about that) and had a good amount of fresh lobster meat lightly coated with mayonnaise. They have hand-cut fries that others have raved about, so we split a quart, and I had the seafood stew. The rolls were great. Top-notch lobster roll, not the best I ever had, but a darn good one. I'd order it again. The fries were great, they provide malt vinegar (another perk), and the seafood stew was hearty and flavorful. Even though it was 94, I love my soups and chowders and will eat them all summer. The restaurant and accompanying seafood market sit along the very busy Route 302. It's pretty nondescript from the road, but they have a nice outdoor seating area, with an awning, freshly-painted picnic tables, and the area was especially clean. Another nice feature were the plastic buckets if you order steamers or lobsters, which they'll cook, fresh. Each table had a roll of paper towels. Good place for seafood takeout and one I'd visit again when in the area. read more

They won an award for their roll? In 2005 the Maine Lobster Promotion Council ( http://www.lobsterfrommaine.com/index.php )named their roll the Best Lobster Roll in Maine. I will say it was a bargain. $10.95 for a healthy sized roll w/o any lettuce messing things up. The meat wasn't juicy and was devoid of sweetness. They had a crab roll for $6.95, but I'm sure it is the same. This is what happens when lake people try to go coastal. I know that comment will piss some people off. Good lobster rolls reside near saltwater and tides! I did see some beautiful day scallops in the fish case and thought that maybe I should have ordered fried scallops. In fairness, I did have my roll in May on a weekday, not during high season when all the Sebagans are mowing lobster rolls. I may have had tastier salad if ordered when the lobster was turning over quickly, but that still doesn't forgive the non-side split bun. Good value for the eat in (compared to other places, still not cheap). Best place to get fresh seafood in the sebago region imo. Fresh haddock on tues and Thursday (winter prices are cheaper, naturally). Can also get vacuum sealed sushi grade tuna for a VERY reasonable place. People there are great as well. read more

New taproom is great. Tap list however a little mediocre. A few local brews but not much depth. Seafood usually very good, and healthy portions, but on most recent visit seems like oil needed to be changed out or our fried platter (clams, scallops, shrimp, haddock) was a bit overdone. Have been to bobs many times, but very disappointed lately. Last visit, I got a halibut basket, and the fries were dark, cold and limp. when fried foods come out dark, it's usually because the frying oil hasn't been changed. When they're limp, it's usually because they've had other items piled in top of them. Anyway, I brought this to the waiters attention, and he gave me some bs about it being due to the potatoes (huh?). Previous visit, I tried the lobster roll for $22, and it was tasteless...didn't even finish it. The roll itself was the best thing about it. Also, the tap room was extremely noisy. Couldn't carry on a conversation. Every one in the room was yelling, trying to be heard above the two tvs and piped in muscl. All in all, a bad experience. Not sure I'll go back. read more

Amazing! Well worth the short drive around Sebago Lake. Better than what we found in Portland. The fried seafood was delicious, not greasy at all. We ate the whole pile of the large fried scallops. We loved the lobster rolls and the different soups we tried. We went twice in one week while on vacation and sat both inside and outside. It was super busy but the wait wasn't unbearable. Order at the counter then grab a seat. Didn't try getting it to go. The fish sandwich was very good too. My daughter was in from Vermont and she LOVES her lobster. We ordered the lobster pot which comes with a lobster, steamers and corn. It was a sunny day and we sat outside under their covered picnic benches. It was a PERFECT lunch and my daughter has brought that lunch up numerous times. Recently visited Bobs with family while on vacation. The new updated restaurant is very nice with a good atmosphere. However we found that the kitchen wasn't able to keep up with the number of tables plus take out orders. We were told the wait for a table was 45min but then the wait for food was 90min to 2 hours. Seems like the kitchen needed expansion too. The food was pretty good. I recommend the fish tacos! The French fries leave nothing to be desired. Would go again and sit in the patio area for a drink.
