I'm giving 2 stars because they guy was gentle and so nice but boy is his work sloppy. The job he did deserves a fat ZER0. I can't decide if he just didn't care or was in a rush. Either way I'm very upset about what happened. I took my brand new Margiela Tabis to Bob's Shoe Repair and asked for Vibram soles. I explained that since they're brand new, and obviously expensive I can still return them to the store for a full refund if he can't work with them. I know the split toe is challenging. He assured me he's able to work with them. I'm so disappointed at the workmanship. Not only did he do a poor job cutting the outline, but he also ruined the original sole and painted it black to cover up the mistakes. For $45 it wasn't worth it. I wish followed my instinct and paid for the stick on's from Amazon at least I could have saved the integrity of the shoes. It took me 2 years to save for these, only 2 minutes to get ruined. I'm stuck with them, can't return them to store. I wanna cry so badly! Because he gentle natured demeanor I wanted to support him again, but with this kind of work I wouldn't recommend any of my friends or family to patronize him. They removed an oil stain from a pair of leather boots for a few dollars. Did a nice job.

I really feel bad about this review because of how nice the gentleman was when I brought my shoes in for repair. He was kind and gave me a fair price on the work I had asked to be done. The major issue is that some of the work wasn't done, and my boots were damaged in a few spots post repair, my heels were returned dirty and with polish on the inside which will now get all over my feet, and a repair done on another boot was not as complete as I hoped it would have been based on our initial convo. I feel that I need to let folks know that my experience as far as quality of work was very dissapointing and I feel sad about the condition in which I received my boots back in. I don't want that to happen to anyone else. These are Marc Fisher boots, so of the nicer quality, and the heels are Coach. It's such a shame as they are so kind there! I don't think I'll be back because 3 of the 4 pairs of shoes I brought in weren't taken care of well in my opinion. On to the next place! read more

The sad thing is Bob's is the only game in town. It's a CASH ONLY business. It's a dying art I guess. There should be another shoe repair in Jersey City but there isn't one. This is my second time going there. The first time was a fiasco. It took a month to repair the elastic on two pair of sling-back pumps. This time they were good and relatively fast. I brought in a pair of boots and waited outside while they fixed them. It only cost $12 for a good job. The place is not tidy. Unfortunately had a really poor experience with covering a scuff on Gucci sneakers. The paint color wasn't a great match and imprecisely applied. There were also hairs or bristles stuck in the paint. Now looking for another shoe repair spot to fix the damage. read more

Sorry to say I did not have a good experience here: I brought in 2 pair of boots, one black the other caramel color. He did fine with the black ones but my caramel color boots were smeared with black shoe polish that will never come off. Basically, kind of ruined. They did a funky repair to the sole. I should have followed my gut when I walked in the door, because the shop felt very unorganized and dirty. :( read more

I am stunned at the terrible service I just received. I came in with elastic on a pair of boots needing to be fixed in 4 days before I left on a trip (they're a gift). I was super clear with him I knew this was a tall ask bc of the time frame but that I really didn't want to drop off the shoes if he couldn't do it. He said he could but that he'd only fix the elastic if he could fix the whole shoe--repair all the leather, get a shoe stretcher, etc. I haggled with him about 20 min until it was clear he wasn't giving in and I agreed to pay $80 to fix a $40 pair of shoes. To say I left angry is an understatement. But today really stunned me. I called because I was supposed to have the shoes by today and he hadn't texted. I lost the ticket and called in advance bc I knew it would take a while. I'm also sick with food poisoning and didn't want to throw up at the store so was trying to make it quick. He said he'd have them if I came by in a bit. When I came by he hadn't looked, said they weren't repaired in time. I had to push him to keep looking, saying I wanted to take the shoes home today repaired or unrepaired. He made me dig through dozens of boxes and bags until I stopped to sit because I thought I'd throw up, telling them that. The two people there proceeded to YELL at me for being "lazy" told me to look through my things again and berated me for having lost the ticket. I understand my forgetfulness is annoying, but there's no reason I should have been full-chested yelled at. They even continued yelling at me DOWN THE STREET. I will never go here again and suggest you don't either UPDATE: now, two weeks later, they're texting me to come pick up my shoes. As if I didn't pick them up two weeks ago! I'm assuming this means they do pickups on an automated basis, without confirming whether/not the work is done. I bet for many people their items are done with service weeks before they get a text. In the meantime, over two weeks, the "polish" (read: black paint) has completely rubbed off my shoes, an they look worse than before. I've also realized, since walking in the snow, that they destroyed the signature "air wear" soles that come with doc martens and put low quality, treadless, soles on the bottom that make me slip and fall in the rain and snow. The buckles have also turned pink, likely because of whatever polish they put on them -0 they were silver when I came in, and had been painted over with the shit black polish they put on them when I got them back. These people completely butchered my shoes. They should be out of business. read more

Have to say, this guy was pretty great. I went in to get a quote on how/how much to fix my shoes. They were loafers and the fronts were tearing a bit. He took a look and said, sure, I can fix it. He said that I needed to add some height to the front of the show so the lip wouldn't drag on the floor and tear more. When I asked how much, he said $5, went in the back and within the next 5 minutes he brought my shoes back. I had no idea he would work on it then and there with 2 other people in the shop. I'm sure it was because it was a quick fix, but was still a pleasant surprise. He didn't try to rip me off and did the work immediately. That's 5-star service to me. read more

I swung by here yesterday with the recommendation of my dry cleaner. I have a pair of suede shoes that were destroyed at my bachelorette party in October. They were honest and told me that they would try their best but the dirt was in deep and suede is tough too clean. I completely understood! I was shocked when the gentleman said come back around 430-5, it was like 2pm. I came back at 5 and for $12 they did a pretty decent job. I wasn't expecting my shoes to look new and they didn't but they looked good enough to get a few more wears. Who knew this place existed! Very impressed. read more

2 stars because, in the end, my shoes did get fixed after $40 and a lot of hassle. No other stars for a lot of reasons below, but also because if there was another man in the room, I immediately became secondary. Ladies, send a man to do your business here. Or, just got somewhere else. Our story begins two weeks ago. I go to zip up my boots and the zipper breaks. I check out Yelp and this place comes up. I bring in my shoes and talk to the man behind the counter, who I assume is Bob. We have an exchange where I end up agreeing to also having him fix the heels and a shine "for no charge", $30 total for zipper and heels. He tells me to come back in a few days and asks me to leave a $10 deposit. (Another man came in during this and the Bob fully stopped speaking to me, completed a transaction with this other guy, and then turned back to me with a shrug and a shitty "Thank you for waiting".) I come back a week later just before closing time. The heels are fixed but Bob had forgotten about the zipper. He tells me to come back the next day. Also, he inexplicably decides to ask me if I'm voting for Hillary "since she's a woman". I manage to get out the door without disclosing my politics to this guy I don't know who has my shoes. I come back two days later. He's put in a new zipper, but it's a crappy brown plastic zipper. Fine, the boots are brown... but the ORIGINAL zipper is gold. So now he's trying to give me back boots with mismatched zippers. Maybe it's my fault for not making my expectations clear, but if I needed a button replaced, I wouldn't expect to need to ask that they use a matching button. OF COURSE IT SHOULD MATCH. (In this situation, my boyfriend happened to be with me, and Bob spent the whole time trying to talk to him instead of me. Gross.) Bob says for an extra $10, he'll put a matching crappy brown zipper on the other boot. Fine, what else am I going to do? He tries to tell me this is some kind of deal I'm getting and says I can come back in an hour. I come back an hour later. He doesn't recognize me until I ask for the brown boots. He says I look different, because "where is my man I had with me?" and I just can't. I take my boots, and pay this guy the $30 balance, and leave. What a mess. I'll be trying a different place in the future. read more

I brought my backpack here to fix a handle and it was a quick fix that needed to be done but I got it back halfway done the stitching was hanging out on both sides there was an additional unnecessary stitch on the bag that did not need to be there I asked to have it redone because I really didn't like it to where the owner told me that "it was something that wouldn't bother him" but I had to then say I this bothers me which is why I'm getting it fixed in the first place so that it looks clean and he says he was going to redo it he and in turn glued it so that I don't notice and did absolutely nothing to it I took it somewhere else to skybox cleaning in Bayonne and they were actually able to look at what he did and let me know that there was glue on the bag and said that they would fix it which they charge me the same price which is annoying I had to pay double and double back for poor work great guy the guy was really nice but I paid for service and I got a half assed job and glue on my bag will not be going back please don't take your items here. On top of that my bag was returned with a bunch of dirt and dust all over it. Never again. read more

I could have sworn I reviewed this place, but I guess not. Originally, I would have given them four stars, because the job was done pretty quick. But they didn't accept credit cards, and even though they told me they were going to be open on a Saturday, they weren't. We all have that pair of shoes. Fits perfectly, comfortable, has your foot molded in exactly the right way. My boots. As with favorite shoes, parts of them need to be replaced so that you can keep wearing them. With mine, the soles started to go. It seems the pickings for shoe repairs are getting smaller and smaller, less people doing this type of business. They guys were super nicer and friendly and assured me it was no problem, they could fix the heel, which was coming off, and fix the front soles, which were worn down. $30 for both soles and the heel. Okay, seemed a little bit on the pricier side, but what do I know about fixing shoes? Well, it's now been a little over a month, and my shoes are started to fall apart. Well, not the shoes themselves, but the soles, the part that was supposed to be fixed. You know, the reason I brought them in, in the first place? While the heel is still holding up (although for how long, I don't know), the front sole on the left shoe needs some serious nailing because the glue is not holding up. The right one is starting to peel too. I don't wear these boots in the snow or rain, I don't wear them everyday, so this is ridiculous. My boots should not be falling apart like this less than a month after they were fixed. I'll update this if they agree to fix my boots (again), but right now, I am NOT happy with the job they did. My boyfriend now has to bring me a pair of shoes for us to go out tonight because I can't walk around with the sole of my shoe coming off. read more

I'll start by saying he is a nice guy and maybe his actual shoe repairs are good. However, I did give him a pair of oxfords to shine and came back 3 days later. He handed me back the same untouched shoes that I gave him. I went back and he "corrected" the situation. To be honest, it does not seem like he knows how to shine shoes. read more
