This place is amazing! Tannia is a phenomenal server, brings so much kindness and positive energy. She told us the specials and events throughout the week even. The food is nostalgic and the perfect fusion of Latin and Asian flavors. We live in the triangle area but any time we are in Charlotte, this is our go to place. The Picadera platter is delicious and always hits the spot. Must try!
A great music try if you love Dominican food or sushi! I would rate this place a 9/10 only because I was not a huge fan of the sushi, I think the food they had was wonderful besides the sushi. The meat plate was bomb and empanadas were very authentic. The service was fast. We went around 830 and stayed til almost midnight when it turned into a Dj and dance party. Loved it here
This place has the perfect ambience! Luckily we had a reservation and did not have to wait in the very long line. I wasn't too hungry so I just ordered fried Gyoza. It was OK. But the star of the show was the Lychee martini. It was the best one that I've had to date. I ordered a second one! This is the first time I've seen the lychee martini made with an actual lychee shell used as a garnish. It was so cute.
Went here for a friend's birthday after hearing so many wonderful reviews! The drinks I tried were not the best as they tasted very sweet and had an odd after taste. I ordered the beef bao buns which were good and had a nice spice to them. Nothing amazing but still good. If I am ever in the area I will come back and order different items and update my review!
We tried Bocao before a show at The Comedy Zone. We ordered the Chofan with mixed meat and La Costillita with tostones. Both dishes were delicious. Our server Tannia was fantastic. She answered questions, gave excellent recommendations, and was attentive without being overbearing. We were seated immediately and our food came quickly. We used Lyft, so we did not have to deal with parking, but it is a small lot. Plenty of parking just around the corner. We will definitely be back!
Let me start by saying the **parking fee is ridiculous**--way too pricey for the very limited space available. That alone was frustrating and honestly put a damper on the experience before we even sat down. Once inside, the **ambiance is actually pretty solid**. The decor is modern and fun, and the music sets a good vibe, especially if you're there with friends for drinks. The **cocktails were probably the highlight** of the night. I had a strong blue drink (wish I remembered the name) that definitely delivered. The **waiter was friendly** and provided decent service, but the **seating was not comfortable at all**, which made it hard to relax and enjoy the meal. Now for the big issue--the **food**. I took photos of every plate we ordered, and unfortunately, none of them tasted good. Not one dish stood out in a positive way. For a sushi-focused restaurant, that's a dealbreaker. Everything looked better than it tasted, which is a shame. Would I go back? **Not any time soon**, unless someone else was paying. Super disappointed overall. Sushi Bocao is all hype and very little substance, at least based on my visit.
Id say my overall experience was fine. My boyfriend and I were coming to the Comedy Zone for the Trevor Wallace show this weekend and wanted to find a restaurant close enough where we didnt have to drive all over Charlotte for a restaurant then find parking for our comedy show. Being from California, we looooveeee sushi, so found this to check a few boxes of what we were looking for that night! Upon arriving, this is not JUST sushi, but a Latin (Dominican, I think?)/Japanese fusion type of restaurant! So we were excited to try new flavors to pair with our sushi! We ordered two appetizers and two rolls to share, and asked for sake, which our waitress declined they had, then diet coke, which she also declined they had... so we just stuck with water. They dont have any carbonated drinks?? Weird for a restaurant, but whatever! Water is better for us anyways lol.. You summon your server by a lamp that changes color when you touch the top of it. Think: flight attendant call button. Atmosphere and vibes were immaculate! Very clean and had a cute patio seating you walk through to get inside the restaurant. Our waitress provided a tray of sauces for our sushi and consisted of 3 predetermined options: passionfruit, spicy mayo, and standard soy sauce. I was so excited to try the passionfruit, because I do enjoy the fruitier flavors with my fish, but woooowwwww was that underwhelming. If she didnt say passionfruit, I wouldve assumed it was just standard/plain mayo? Spicy mayo was waayyy muted with flavor as well - kinda disappointing. Soy sauce was what normal soy sauce tastes like.. La Yola: $18.00 - Deep fried sweet plantain boat topped with shrimp sautéed in ninja sauce | I tried to scrape the "ninja sauce" off the plantain to eat by itself. There were like 6 shrimps drowning in some yellow sauce ontop of what was served to us as steamed, not deep fried. Growing up, I had a popcorn machine in my play room, and we had these popcorn flavor powders we could sprinkle ontop of the popcorn for different flavors, one of which was cheddar cheese powder. Tht cheddar cheese popcorn powder flavor is exactly what this ninja sauce tasted like, but more muted? Would not order again.. Bao Buns: $14.00 - Choose your style: Magnolia Beef ( Mongolian beef style, cabbage and scallion) or chicharron (pork belly) and sweet chili, cabbage, and pico de Gallo) | Bao buns come in 3 and were soft and delicious! Honestly, Id order two servings of these, the beef abd pork! Would order again! South Beach Roll: $18.00 - Shrimp tempura, cream cheese. Topped with sweet plantain, guacamole, crab meat, eel sauce and guacamole sauce | The sweet plantain and ghe guacamole sauce with the shrimp tempura AND cream cheese was a lot. It was a big soft roll with what tasted like a lot of conflicting flavors.. eel sauce is standard and ol' reliable with any roll. Wouldnt order again... Otra Vaina Roll: $16.00 - Fresh tuna, avocado and cucumber. Topped with fresh tuna with chinola sauce, eel sauce, tobiko and scallions | This one was pretty good! More of a traditional sushi roll, nothing new or innovative about this roll. Tuna tasted fresh and not frozen like many surrounding sushi restaurants in Charlotte struggle with, but wouldnt go out of my way for this roll. Would order again! Our total here was about $75 before gratuity and felt as if it was a bit expensive for a meal as simple as this. Im glad I had the opportunity to try this location, but dont find myself coming back here. Staff was amazing and parking available in front of the restaurant!
Aesthetic: Loud, modern sushi fusion restaurant with a variety of unique Latin/Asian fusion rolls. My Favorites: I've enjoyed their simpler rolls such as the Rainbow Roll and Spicy Tuna. Experience: I've honestly never had the best experience here, I always felt that the fusion rolls are overpriced for the quality. I was originally impressed by the sound of the Taki Taki and Big Papi rolls, but they didn't work as sushi for me. I have been back and had their regular sushi, and I find it more enjoyable. The bartenders acted rude when I had dinner at the bar alone here recently, and I felt awkward, but the door staff was kind. I was having a bad day, and I made sure to order a drink and tip well, but I felt rushed. I won't be back due to the expensive parking in the plaza nearby and the service.
First time coming here for a friend's birthday celebration, and I had a BLAST! arrived around 10:30 p.m., and we were able to get a table in the covered outside patio. It was a bit chilly, but nothing too had, and they had heaters all around. We loved the music they were playing (old school reggaeton), and the decor was very modern, chic, and tropical vibes. Friends all tried a variety of drinks, food, and hookah. Around 12am, it got a lot busier and was a bit packed when going to the restroom. The location is a bit small, but they make it work with all the tables around. Will definitely come back to try their food and lounge around again. It's definitely a vibe. This is located at NC Music factory. They have side street parking with a parking deck as well, but you do have to pay.
The ambiance was very welcoming , and we were seated right away. However this is where the downfall came. There was only 1 other table in the building and the server spent most of her time there. She finally came over rushing us to order as if she had somewhere else to be. We ordered the food came delivered by someone else. First bites and presentation was amazing. We need more water another round of drinks, but our server has disappeared. Only when the 2 hour time limit was about to be up did she show up with a bill.
This place was so good, the atmosphere 10/10, the service 10/10, the food 10/10 The grilled octopus was so soft and flavorful The Dominican egg rolls were good The Bocao vip roll delish The volcano roll delish The steak juicy and flavorful. It's such a cute place for a girls night. The music was 100/10.
We love a vibey restaurant! Went here prior to a concert nearby, and it was the perfect spot. Latin and Asian food meet on this menu, and the rice bowl was a perfect symphony of flavors. Such a fun spot to take friends. Just a personal take: I did not enjoy the plantains on sushi, but glad I tried anyway?! read more

Went on a Friday night , made reservation but the place was not busy Decor is pretty cool, newspaper type print on the wall for decor Our waitress was super nice We tried: Chix mofongo (comes with side of creamy broth) Delicious , lot of chix strips on top Volcano roll Otra Vaina roll Friday night they have Sangria pitcher specials 1/2 off They have 4 different flavors We had the red sangria (sangria could be little stronger ) Everything was delicious ! ** only downfall is the parking in this area They charge $14-40 depending on where you park read more

Had a great time, the idea was it turned into a social club after but I guess we didn't stay long enough, either way, our bartender Dori was the best! She was very entertaining to watch as well as she conquered the crowd with ease. The boa buns were okay at best, next time I'll try the mofongo it looked better. read more
Located at the NC Music Factory. Dined here on a Sunday evening around 6:30pm for a friend's birthday dinner. Food was good. Cute decor. Service was blah. They seemed bothered by anything we asked. Asked if they did a bday dessert, they said no. Asked for a candle which they provided but didn't light it. So then had to ask for a lighter which they finally brought over for us to light ourselves. Because of having to pay to park ($22 in the open lot, $11 in the parking deck) and mediocre service, I probably won't return. read more

Very lively and modern bar setting with a few tables, staff is attentive & nice, and the food was delicious! Recommend coming early, it turns into a lounge after 10p or so. They offer hookah as well. Overall great choice for a night of dinner & dancing! read more
If you like good music, sushi, Dominican food, and/or hookah then this is the place for you! I've been here a few times. During the day it's pretty quiet but at night it gets packed and there is a wait if you don't have reservations. The food is pretty good. I typically go for sushi! I've tried several options before and never had a bad experience. There's indoor and patio seating with cute decorations. I would go back again. read more
I came here after hitting the club across the street at La Unica. I was very hungry and wanted to sit down. Now we did have to wait in-libe a good 35 minutes before getting sat. At 11 a.m. they do turn into a night club and let everyone that can fit into the building in. The place is small with limited seating. So when it turns into a club it is almost impossible to walk anywhere. The food was amazing. I love sushi and their infusion of Latin sushi is genius read more

Excellent Service, Cool Vibes, Good Music, Great Hookah and Fantastic Food! I loved the Latin twist on Japanese Food and the execution was perfecto! We went for a friend's birthday and loved every minute! He had a steak which he said was delicious we had the calamari appetizer and it was so good great size rings not to much breading fresh tasting with a tasty dipping sauce! Highly recommended! We had 2 sushi rolls Mar y Tierra Roll $20.00 Shrimp tempura, cream cheese, maduro, guacamole and ropa vieja. Can't find the other one on menu but it had shredded beef and plantains so FREAKING DELICIOUS! Wish I took more pictures of food and the inside and outside of the restaurant. Just was enjoying the moments. Loved it and can't wait to go back! read more

Great waitress! Loved dining out on the patio--wonderful ambiance and people watching. Sangria pitchers were the special. We tried them all. Strawberry very artificial tasting. Passion fruit my favorite! The Latin infusion sushi is delicious! My bowl was too pasty for me--too much rice. INSANE how good the sushi platter was. I've never had sushi fusion quite like this before. Rolls had various add ons like fried cheese, chorizo, marinated shredded beef, plantains, etc. Takes traditional sushi and adds a really awesome flare. As the night goes on it turns up more and more atmosphere wise rivaling any sort of club environment Charlotte has to offer. Great drinks and various hookah options as well. Music was loud but to be expected as the night goes on and turns more into that club vibe. Staff was all friendly and helpful in picking the right food and drink options. 10/10 will be back read more
Come for the food, stay for the party. Hands down, Bocao took me back to the 305. I loved the infusion of Asian and Dominican dishes. I chose the teriyaki bowl with shrimp. It's safe to say that I've been perfecting my recipe of this at home every since--still nowhere close to Bocao's dish! We enjoyed beef empanadas and a round of drinks as well. About 11pm, that's when the party starts. The music gets loud (it's hard to hear from across the table), but that just means that it's time to move our feet. Friendly folks were dancing bachata and salsa with us until closing. I can't wait to bring more friends! read more
Went here with the fam while in Charlotte. It's a very vibrant and lively atmosphere. Our server made all the difference in the world by recommending a chef selection platter that we could all share. I can't say that I would've ordered anything on that platter off the menu because it all sounded a little too eclectic for me, but every single thing was absolutely delicious. I would not order another Mojito, but my sister's blueberry drink was top notch. The six of us shared a hookah with some kind of mint and it was refreshing & fun. This cool bar reminded me of Miami, for starters because of the music, the beautiful Latin staff and the beer selection. I regretted not trying the sushi but I observed the dishes at some of the table and the food looked good. I wish I had taken more pics of this place. Went here for dinner on a Sunday night around 8pm, they sat us right away but only had outdoor tables available. Food was good, the empanadas were amazing! The El Carnal roll was a little weird, I wouldn't get that again. Boyfriend got a mojito which was good. Our waitress was great and there was a hookah man going around talking with customers as well. Ambiance is very cool, I felt like I was in Miami. They played all the good music. It got busy as it neared 9pm, it had a long line of people waiting. I've heard this place turns into a club at night but didn't get to see that part. Parking right in front of the place was $40, and in the parking lot event parking it was $20 so we parked down the road for free :) read more
This place is a vibe. I recently went on a Saturday night with a friend. The sushi is bomb. I've never had sushi with bacon on it, but let me tell you bacon makes everything better. The service was amazing but be advised that this place does turn into a Club on the weekends. Nonetheless fun times we're had. Had a great time celebrating my little sister's high school graduation at Bocao Sushi (party of 14). We got there around 8 to prevent the need for IDs. We got a little section outside and ordered a ton of drinks (just ok) and quite a a bit of food. The steamed veggies were so so good; seasoned very well! The mofonguito trio yuca was pretty good too. This is a decent spot for a mini celebration. Service was pretty attentive as well. The music was all Puerto Rican but still good. read more

This is a real cool Dominican Asian Fusion Spot. The type of spots you would find in the Heghtz, Miami, Boston, or upscale places in DR. The spot is brought to you by Chef El Ninja, so with that, comes his innovation of "Tiguere con Cache." Had his take in a classic tiger roll tempura, and a favorite meal of mine, churrasco, with longaniza and rice, but on a roll. Have had this variation when I lived in NYC and at other places. Like this version as the flavors don't overpower. Do recommend a sweeter sauce or the maduros to be more "mareao" or bit more ripened, so that the taste of the churrasco and longaniza really come out. All in all, the place is cool, and it's located in the Music Factory complex in Uptown Charlotte. Great for groups, dates, or having a chill time flying solo, like I did. We came here on a Thursday when they do half off apps and the food was absolutely amazing. We had edamame, Dominican eggrolls, calamari, gyoza, and sushi (not half off). The hookah was nicely priced at $30 which I think makes sense for how small it is too. Our server Tannia was the sweetest and made sure we had everything we needed. It's over in the music factory, so keep in mind that you'll need to pay for parking. read more

Went for a girls night and a friends birthday and wow. This place is amazing . Very very cute ambiance . There's indoor and outdoor seating . You have your IDs checked and bags searched going through the doors . I love love the domincan/Japanese fusion . I ordered the shrimp mofungo. Very pricey , but it was very good. The drinks were good as well. I can't wait to come back here read more
