We were traveling with a little and he very much enjoyed the fun atmosphere although he wasn't a fan of the fresh lemonade. A bit too sour for his taste. But our server was very happy to get us something he would enjoy. Overall, this was a fun place for lunch. Solid seven out of 10. We were excited to try this restaurant after a long day of traveling. Our party consisted of eight people, including two small children. Before arriving, I called to confirm that it would be acceptable to walk in without a reservation and was told that it would. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from the moment we arrived. The server immediately expressed frustration about accommodating a large party without a reservation. We were then directed to a table intended for six people, with the expectation that three adults and the children would share a single bench in an extremely cramped arrangement. When I politely requested an additional two-seat table so everyone could be seated comfortably, the manager's response was simply that we could "take it or leave it." Given the lack of professionalism and unwillingness to reasonably accommodate our group, we chose to leave. We will not be returning to this location. read more

We originally went to Dr Phillips to eat at another restaurant but it had a long wait so we decided to try Bocas Grill nearby instead. It is a Latin American grill restaurant specializing in arepas and, bonus, the World Cup game with Argentina was on all the TVs. I wasn't sure what to get as a lot of items sounded interesting and then my husband noticed the Parrilla Mixta menu items - basically a sampler platter of various items on the menu for people to share. Sold! We got the smallest one, the Parrilla Llanera, and there is also one larger plus a surf and turf with a whole fish and other seafood in addition to the meats. We chose the picanha for our meat and Congri rice as our side. We asked for water to drink and the server brought a flask of water plus limes and lime juice! It was really nice and my husband said he felt like we were sitting outside at a restaurant in Latin America. The whole restaurant was decorated for the World Cup with different flags and soccer balls everywhere. There's also a full bar in the back corner, as well as seating outside. The platter came and it looked amazing. Besides the picanha and grilled chicken, it came with chorizo, mini arepas, guasacaca (a Venezuelan guacamole), and Cachapas (sweet corn pancakes with shredded cheese). I was in the area and Boca came to mind for a nice moment to sit down. The menu looks different than what I remember but there looked like several delicious items. I got an arepa and blackberry juice. My partner got the jalea and strawberry lemonade juice. The juices are more like a slush but are super refreshing refreshing. My arepa was great until the last few bites. Some of the plantain s weren't cooked and the arepa tasted a little burnt. The Jalea was amazing! I was able to get a few bites. The portion size is worth the price. It had calamari, plantain, shrimp, and white fish all in rice. Highly recommend and it seems to be a favorite. The service was good. We ordered the truffle burger, Bandeja Paisa, side of plantains ($4 for 8pieces) and Papelon con limon. This was A LOT of food for two people, we both took home leftovers and it was a meal for breakfast the next morning. I loved the Bandeja paisa, my steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare, pork belly was so crispy and juicy, sausage had a nice snap to it. The plantains were delicious and not oily. The beans, rice, and arepa were great carb pairings. Avocado and jammy pan fried egg added richness and creaminess to everything else on the plate. The Papelon con limon was refreshing, id highly recommend it when eating the Bandeja paisa. It will refresh your palate and balance out the heaviness of the meat platter. Truffle burger was cooked medium rare as well, truffle fries were crispy with a strong truffle flavor. My partner did state that even though it was good, he liked my tray of food much more. Takeaways, the fried plantains and pork belly pieces were the overwhelming stars of the dinner. I came with my niece for lunch on a Saturday afternoon around 2. It was busy! So I was expecting a great experience. The service was less than desirable. We had some questions because we were unfamiliar with the menu and she seemed annoyed by our questions. Then when we got our food my niece had an issue with hers (she's very picky and there was a sauce on it she does not like). The server came and took it away but was obviously bothered and never came back to check if the replacement was good. The food was good but they need to address the service because I would not return given my experience. I've had Bocas Grill on my list for awhile now after seeing their outrageous milkshakes and desserts all over social media. We happened to be in the Dr. Phillips area the other night and decided to give it a go. It was a bit later on Saturday night and while the place was still busy both inside and on the patio, we were able to be seated right away. Bocas specialized in Venezuelan and Latin cuisine, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu is pretty extensive, but we decided to go for one of their sharing platters from the grill section. We ordered the Parrilla Llanera which included 6oz of picanha, 8oz of grilled chicken breast, 1 chorizo sausage, 5 fried arepitas, cachapa with llanero cheese, special guasacaca, chimichurri, nata, homemade hot sauce, and our choice of one side which we selected rice for. The picanha & chorizo were very tasty and cooked perfectly. The chicken breast was a bit dry, but it tasted good when dipped in their homemade hot sauce. I wish someone would have explained the different items on the platter and how they recommend pairing the sauces. The server dropped the plate down so quick and then ran away and we didn't see her again for awhile. We had to flag down someone else for little plates. We were a bit confused by the bowl of guac with sliced avocado on top and what seemed like a side of sour cream (nata I believe). They felt kind of random and we weren't sure how they were supposed to be enjoyed with the other items. I ended up dipping the cachapa in the white sour cream and it was surprisingly really good. It's like a sweet corn pancake topped with cheese and it was probably one of my favorite items on the platter. This is definitely plenty of food for 2 people and we were absolutely stuffed afterwards. So stuffed that we didn't even have room dessert (they are HUGE!) but I did enjoy a glass of their fresh passion fruit juice which was kind of like a slushy. I will say that this meal was a great value for the price. The platter was $45 which is all we needed, and I can't even tell you the last time we saw a $50 bill for a sit-down date night out. We'd definitely go back and try some other things on the menu. read more

I've been want to visit Bocas for a long time, and I finally came over with a group of 7, and this is one of the best restaurants for groups as there are platters that can be shared, and the food is cooked to liking! You need an appetite when you come here because the portions are very friendly! The restaurant has inside and outside seating, and it can get busy as it goes later into the day.
