I ordered their "Tanker" reuben. It was served with chips & a pickle. The corned beef was excellent as was the toasting on the flat top. The portion of corned beef was generous, plenty for a hungry appetite, but not so large that there was extra to take home. The cheese ... to little Swiss cheese. The sauerkraut? Too little and too mild. I appreciate that the Thousand Island sauce was served on the side and I was offered mustard as an alternative. The pickle was served chilled and crisp, thank you. The front patio has five 2-top tables. Being on Main St. and adjacent to RR tracks makes for a noisy-ish venue. Not objectionably so, but definitely a distraction. The downsides? Only 2:5 staffers had masks and both were wearing them incorrectly: One around the neck/Adam's apple and the other covering only the lower lip, leaving the nose and upper lip/mouth uncovered. Absolutely THE WORST!!!!!!! I ordered a Corn Beef sandwich, and I got a pile of FAT with a little corn beef. I will never eat there again.

We checked Bodes online before we left Florida. We came here straight from the airport. It's a very friendly place. The owner Dave came over and spoke to us at great length. He bought it from a previous owner in July 2019. They had run it down. He put in new flooring and some other things to brighten up the place and still keep the old homey feeling. Service was great. Michelle was our waitress. We had the Irish Benedict. It was corned beef with a tomato on an English muffin topped with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce with a side of corned beef hash. There are not enough words to describe how good it was. The corned beef was better than any deli we've eaten in. Home made and sliced thin. The corned beef hash was incredible. It was a perfect equal proportion of of corned beef and potatoes. We've had corned beef hash all over the country where the potatoes are big chunks and the corned beef pieces of sliced corned beef. They do not hold a candle to Bodes. We ate it slowly just to savor every bite and prolong the ultimate end. Next time we are in town we will definitely be back. read more

Today I had reason to travel to Livonia so I took a roundabout route in order to hit Bode's. WOW! Memories just cannot serve justice to how incredible the food is here. First off I've been eating at Bode's since I can remember, so 40 years at least. I am all for new owners taking over when the original owners are ready to retire but they raised the prices to the point it's ridiculous and the quality and portions don't match the price. I got a corned beef & pastrami sandwich today, first they put cheddar on it & asked if that is ok or if I wanted Swiss, yes I would like Swiss that is what I ordered. I finally got the sandwich and ate part while picking hard pieces that were getting stuck in my teeth so I started noticing it was whole peppercorns & pieces of bay leaf & whole coriander seeds! I couldn't pick it all out, it was throughout. The fact that they don't know how to make pastrami & they are charging almost $20 for a sandwich is insane. Leaving whole pickling spices in the meat and then putting it on a sandwich is wild. It's novice, and insulting to the customers that know how it should be. So they adjusted the check so it ended up being $28 & change for our food. 1 cup of coffee 1 Ruben omelette & my garbage sandwich was almost $30! The waitress told the owner but he stayed in the kitchen & didn't say a word to us. I hope it was worth it I will never go back & I'm going to spread the word as far & wide as I can that Bode's are money grubbing hacks! Expensive Trash relying on the reputation of Richard's years of hard work, quality food & reasonable prices & maybe most importantly care for his community & customers, without the skill & care he had in his pinky. The fish was hot and lots of fries. But the fish batter was boring. Maybe a little seasoning to batter mix. And the tarter sauce was bland to the point of this is only mayo and relish. Needed something like some dill to brighten it up. Fish and chips with no coleslaw was confusing. That's a standard at Scotty Simpson's in Detroit. You can get clam chowder with the meal. But then you give up the fries. Maybe it was just a bad day for Bode's. Very confusing experience doubt well be back. Just wasn't like most fish restaurant's serve. Had lunch here the other day. The corned beef here is entirely worthy of being the headliner! This place has clearly been around forever, and that's because they do things the right way. Helpful, friendly staff and the food was excellent. I had a Reuben with the sauce of the side (all sauces on the side!) with tater tots and could not have had a better lunch. I loved the ambiance in here. Its a classic old school diner that makes you feel like you are part of the community. The servers know the names of the regulars and the constant stream of guests says its a local favorite. We had a baseball game get canceled and I have never been more excited to stumble on to this amazing location. Guys, the sandwiches shown aren't even the "Tanker" size...what!? It was really great. Liam was our server and she just adds right to the joy of the place. Just had breakfast there with my wife. I know that I have given up on them in the past but we had a craving for corned beef hash and eggs. Yet against, they disappointed us. The corned beef hash was pressed to about 1/4" thick and put on the plate to "look" like there was a good portion, it was far from it. How cheap can you be? Plus it had a weird taste, not like I remembered. So two eggs ($0.20) + two pieces of toast ($0.30) + two heaping tablespoons of corned beef hash ($1.00) cost $10.75. Now if it was a good portion of hash that tasted good and was served hot, which it didn't, you would not be reading this. My wife got sour dough toast that was served burnt, yes it was actually black on one side and hard as a rock. The toast came out after the meal and in was also cool. Their coffee is also weak, but I like mine strong so you can taste it. Now they were not too busy, there were a few empty tables so what the heck? I love this place. Been coming here for years. I will say I've never had a bad meal. On the other hand the service here today was worse than horrible. My waitress was a young blonde who was to busy BS'n with the middle aged cook wearing a black bandana who just couldn't seem to hold back on using the "F" Bomb. My waitress and him were so busy playing around that the other cook and waitress asked if I needed anything. By that time I had finished my meal and was ready to just leave. Absolutely classless. There was another couple in their sixties who I could tell were embarrassed of the language being used by the cook. I'm hoping that's not the owner and they fire him and the waitress. read more

My judge of a good sandwich restaurant is their ability to make a Ruben sandwich, and I found Bode's does a great job! My RR (Ruben Rating) is secret, but includes items such as crispness of the bread (no one wants soggy bread), amount of sauerkraut (more is better - but it can make the bread soggy), and an ample amount of meat! I don't understand why restaurants will give you 2 inches of meat and only 4 strands of sauerkraut! Bodes does a great job on all accounts! I asked for extra sauerkraut on the side (just in case), but I found the Ruben to have a decent amount already. The cook and the waitress were both nice to talk to and did a great job. I ordered the regular Ruben, but could only eat half. Funny thing is that they have a bigger version! Gotta see one of those big boys! Can't wait to return! read more

Haven't been in a bit. Prob a good year and a half. Heard good things since the new owner came in. Food was tasty and plentiful. Was a Tuesday so they had Corned Beef and cabbage as a special. My Dad had that and said it was really good. Tasted like the way he remember from years ago. I had a bowl of chili which was really big. Very good taste very meaty. Was a little dry/thick. But still very good. Also had the Cowboy Burger. Burger cooked perfectly the bun was good. The bbq sauce was really good. Serviced with a bit of coleslaw and fries. Was very good. Waitress was very new. But attentive and always checking in. Was never offered a beverage the whole time. Some lady walked by when we sat down and put two waters on the table. That was it. Not a huge issue. But we both would have ordered a soda or ice tea if it was mentioned. We didn't even notice until we were almost done. Overall good food. Decent price. I can walk to Z***'s, but I'll take a bike or car to get Bode's. Yeah, it's that kind of place. The interior is kitschy. The menu is focused. The food is prepared well consistently. There's no reason to drop a star, but we can all work on something. If you're looking to take someone to breakfast for a first date, be sure they are into FOOD, not a pristine environment. The staff is exceptionally hospitable and the prices are fair. We are slowly working our way through the breakfast menu. Bode's is a classic - and while I know some folks feel that change in ownership has changed it, I never knew the old owners, so I'll stick with today. Bottom line, these folks make killer corned beef and quite possibly the best pastrami outside of Katz's in New York. Yes. That good. Best part? Prices are fair, and the house meats come in a bunch of different things, including several breakfast staples. Every had corned beef hash so fresh and tasty that you have dreams about it? I have, thanks to Brode's. Often overlooked too are the homemade soups - they are very good, and very fresh. I've had several different varieties, and have never been disappointed. Only real issue is the parking - not a lot on the side facing the tracks, and you need to be careful as the building is right behind and narrows as you go back. Also, outdoor sitting could use a bit better awning/covered area...but these are small when you know what your coming here for. read more

This is a nice hole in the wall kind of place. I would call it a diner, not the most impressive decor but they believe in good service and great tasting food. They have a large selection from breakfast to dinner dishes. I tried al's caboose corned beef sandwich. It was big, with lot's of corned beef! It was nice and soft, I just wished it had more flavor. Next time I will need to ask if they have different seasonings for the different corned beef sandwiches or not. The service was great, we never had to ask for a refill. I am a Plymouth native and this is a must try in town. Bode's is an institution. It is small, more than a bit dive-ish and right by the tracks which at times is a pain. Nothing like waiting on a train when you are hungry. Bode's is popular yet small in size. If you don't feel like waiting it is best to come at off hours, they serve the hash all day. I spent many a morning as a kid in one of the booths sucking down chocolate milk as I feasted on corned beef hash. This therefore, is my standard by which all other corned beef hashes are judged. Bode's is a finely chopped hash, very straightforward. It is best with a pair of over easys on top. Something about breaking those yolks and cutting the eggs into the hash makes it magic. When it is fairly mixed I feast, chasing it down with crisp buttery rye toast. I skip the chocolate milk these days and suck down a pop instead. The sandwiches are good, cheap and solid. made with the same tasty corned beef, nearly shredded and stacked style. I have not had one in awhile though, I cannot resist the hash I must confess. If you like hash, this is a stellar version. Best I've ever eaten. read more

Easily my favorite brunch spot in the area. This is more traditional American breakfast joint, and they do it so well. As you can imagine, their corned beef is particularly excellent. They make an eggs Benedict with corned beef, which may be my favorite item. Their corned beef hash is excellent and so is the country fried steak. The prices are really great - a bit cheaper than some other brunch spots in Plymouth. Coffee is good, unless you're looking for artisan coffee or something. Service has always been great. When we have visitors from out of town, this is our go-to. If you like traditional American breakfast but want something that is a cut above most diners, check out Bode's.
