Tied for first in my heart (alpine bagel you are still my first love) this bagel shop is killin it out in Charlottesville. I normally stop by here before I hit up old rag, humpback, or any other hiking venture I take at Shenandoah, it's the perfect source of fuel for all my adventures. Whether it's on the plain or everything bagel, it's a sausage egg and cheese or just plain strawberry cream cheese, every single time I've been here in the past 3 years it has been an experience! Even with the lines out the door! The wait is never too long and it's worth the wait. They also have drive thru and a plethora of parking. I've only been to this location, so I'm not sure if it's any different at any of the other locations or better but this one is the closest to where I'm headed each time. I think it's just the consistency that gets me. The bagel is definitely exceptional but the flavors are pretty plain and straightforward. There's nothing exceptionally special about what this place is doing but it's consistently good and that's why I give them 4 stars. The bagel is always this perfect soft texture with wholesome, non-greasy and quality products. I've also only been in the morning so I'm not sure if the lines taper off throughout the day. I'm sure you ask anyone who goes to UVA and they could tell you but it is always busy in the morningZ I heard there sandwiches are pretty good too but I always get the bagel/bagel sandwich. If you are ever in the Charlottesville area you are doing yourself a huge disservice if you don't visit here. Excellent bagels (and I'm saying that as a New Yorker) that are very fluffy with just the right amount of crispy. Stuffed full (but not too full to eat) with whatever ingredients you could want. My go to sandwich is turkey and Swiss with tomato, lettuce and mayo. The everything bagel is the perfect pairing with this sandwich. I've only been here twice before but the weekdays are the way to go with regards to lines. Doesn't take so long to get food but sometimes you have to wait for a seat. If you don't mind stalking people who are about to leave, this shouldn't be an issue though. I think my favorite is the whitefish salad that happens to be the most expensive one on the menu. I also like the capicola or smoked turkey club. Fast and efficient , Friendly and polite service. Comfortable and pleasant atmosphere for dine in. They play great music also. They are as fast as a "fast food restaurant" and probably cheaper. There's definitely much better quality at BODO 's. When you get to Bodo's you may find difficulty in acquiring a place to park. This is because Bodo's is extremely popular and for good reason! They have a great variety of bagels and cream cheeses. With my dairy issues I don't get to indulge in the cream cheese but I can tell that it is divine by sight alone. I recently had the cinnamon raisin bagel and it was super good. I also tried the chicken and dumpling soup and it was not so good. It was very small and only had ONE dumpling! I was so disappointed. I realize it is a bagel place but sometimes it is nice to have something to accompany the bagel but the soup was not the way to go. The staff at Bodo's are very kind and efficient and make the dining experience very positive. I love Bodo's and try to stop in whenever I get the chance. If you're looking for a "Charlottesville Classic" - Bodo's is your place. The bagels are solid with a good crisp on the outside while also being soft and chewy on the inside. I typically get one or both of these combinations: Egg, Cheddar and Sausage on a sesame bagel, and Chicken (no bbq), Pesto, and Swiss on a garlic bagel. They're both pretty solid. It wasn't until I visited this place did I ever learn what a water bagel was. I mean who doesn't occasionally have some food item that they've heard of but never really bothered to find out anything about it? Anyway, I was visiting some friends in Charlottesville, and it was that time of day where breakfast was a little bit late, but it wasn't quite lunch time, and none of us were really in the mood for a bougie brunch where there would be mimosas anywhere. Bodo's was quickly brought up, and I'm always game to try somewhere I'd never been to before. Not being local, I can't really give any context about the location. I'd assume it's pretty easy to get to, being right at the intersection of where US-29 and the 250 meet, but I don't know what the traffic is like on a regular basis to determine whether it's a good thing or a bad thing. I can say that on an early Saturday afternoon, Bodo's was completely packed, had a line out the door, and the parking lot was in a state of where people looking for a place to park their car to various states of legality. But as advised by my friends, the line did move very quickly and thankfully there were more people taking things to go, as opposed to our party all wanting to dine in. The interior doesn't look like it's changed since maybe 1985, but it's clean and there's always employees about, making sure it stays that way. The menu is nothing flashy, and like the place's namesake is bagels, and bagel-related options. I went with a turkey avocado with bacon on wheat, and it didn't take long for my order to be called. Like I stated, I didn't know constituted a water bagel, and it turns out to be bagels that are slightly boiled before baking, leading to a crisp outside yet still soft and chewy inside. And made into a sandwich, it leads to a tasty and satisfying bagel sandwich that I polished off in no time. Overall, I can't say anything bad about the experience. Bodo's was easy to get to from my friends' home, and although the parking situation was a little hectic, that's primarily because the place is good enough to warrant the high demand. The service is efficient and friendly, the cost of the food leans towards favorable to the customer, and the quality of the bagels were fantastic. I'd have zero objections coming back here during future visits to Charlottesville, and it's the kind of place that I'd probably go to most weekends if I were to live there. read more

Let's break this review down... How many stars do you give to a company who employs someone that laughs at you on the phone when you ask for simple assistance...someone to bring the bagels out to your car, because you cannot get out of the vehicle? My first time at this Bodo's Bagels location and definitely my last. I parked in the lot in front of the entrance after finding out the drive-thru does not function. I call their number and spoke with a young fellow named Jake, and ask if the bagels can brought out to my car because I cannot get out. He explains they don't do car service. Understood. However, I'm asking for a little assistance. Who would've thought, a customer...asking for assistance with service... Customer...service? Jake laughs over the phone and proceeds to remain silent on the phone, I'm under the impression he hung up. I call again, he passes me off to his general manager, who agrees to assist. To the manager, Sir, you've earned your location the stars, I thank you for assisting me with the order, however, one of your employees is the cancer to your business and must be extracted sooner than later. read more

Even when going through drive through, they're are lines. Yes, you read that correctly, multiple lineS, with a "S", and sometimes cars are lined up to get into the parking lot and drive thru. If you're not a regular, I'd look up the menu before you get here. Also, they are no menus in drive thru, so you should know what you want. Coming from California, I was absolutely floored by how cheap the prices were. This would definitely be my go-to breakfast place if I went to U Virginia! The long was line, but the service was fast. Wow. My girlfriend and I went here on Independence Day. Being open on such a big holiday was really nice (they closed other locations and had shortened hours to give their employees a break, kudos). Despite the line being out the door and parking spots hard to come by, we got in and had our food in less than 10 minutes. Their operation ran as smooth as clockwork! We got bagel sandwiches with eggs, cheddar cheese and coffee. It's good to KISS with things like that. We both got everything bagels which were the best I've had in a long time, and certainly the best I've found in VA. To top it off, our bill was less than $10.
