Five stars isn't enough for Body, Balance and Beyond. I'm 55M, and was told about 20 years ago that I had scoliosis, but I never did anything about it. I had years of lower back pain while working a desk job, and in recent years, the pain had moved to my neck. At my first session, Shah quickly determined how my back was curving, and helped me in many ways: 1. Gave me exercises to strengthen weak areas to support the spine. He also recorded me doing the exercises with my phone's camera for later reference (Very helpful!) 2. Told me how to sit correctly, and also the best sleeping positions for my particular curve. He also told me which hand to carry groceries in while walking. 3. Does bodywork on my neck/shoulder area at every appointment. After a handful of sessions, my neck issues are 80% reduced, and I'm hopeful for further improvements. I've learned so much about what my body needs in just a few weeks. Shah is like the Bruce Lee of bodywork. Bruce Lee created his own martial art style (Jeet Kune Do) based on multiple martial arts disciplines. In the same way, Shah draws from many healing modalities including, but not limited to, Schroth, and tailors the sessions for my unique situation. Note, when I first reached out, there weren't any appointments available in the near term, but Blanka said last minute cancellations happen so she'll contact me if something opens up. She followed through with that and I got to see Shah sooner than I expected! So don't be discouraged if he's all booked up when you first reach out. I was recommended by my doctor to see Shah for an injury to my cervical spine. I had a whiplash injury that caused me to lose the natural curve of the spine. Shah helped through gentle manipulations to get back that curve. He was very careful with the lack of strength I had in my neck and shoulders to give me exercises that would not cause further injury. He was really great at gently moving my neck to release tension in the muscles. I had seen a physical therapist before Shah, and I had gotten worse. Shah really helped me begin to recover. I had to stop seeing him because his office was far for me to drive. And driving would exacerbate my condition. But I would not be where I am now without his help! read more

I came to the studio because I previously had a a brief introduction to gyrotonic elsewhere and wanted to explore this form of training in depth. Shah's expertise in gyrotonic is of highest quality. In addition to teaching gyrotonic routine, he also addresses other issues, such as muscle strengthening and improvement in balance. When I had flares of some of my chronic issues, such as neck pain, back pain and limited range of motion in one shoulder, he concentrated on those problems, provided me with home exercises, and those eventually quite improved Shah's deep knowlege of related subjects, such as anatomy, sport physiology, physical therapy, to name just a few, is very impressive, which makes training with him very rewarding. I've noticed quite a bit of progress in my physical fitness level. I have had regular sessions with Shah for over 2 y. I enjoy working out under his direction immensely, and plan to continue for as long as I can. read more

Shah is the best physical therapist I've met so far. I went to him because of my neck issues in early 2021. He carefully reviewed my MRI scans and designed exercise plans for me. He also performed therapeutic massages for me himself. My pain was chronological since 2014. With Shah's help, the pain eased dramatically. Shah is super reliable, honest, and trustworthy. My company switched to another insurance provider that Body Balance and Beyond does not work with. I feel sad that I can't continue my sessions with Shah anymore, but I'm deeply grateful for everything Shah did for me that improved the quality of my life. read more

I am so amazingly impressed at the results on my shoulder by Shah and especially my physical therapist, Daniela! I had injured my shoulder doing a small solo (because covid) construction project in my garage. It wasn't an immediate "pop" or "tear" but just a lot of strain over multiple days. Time went on and my shoulder continued to get worse. I was worried it was a classic rotator cuff injury and figured I was probably going to need surgery. After a few months of hoping it'd get better on its own, I ended up seeing a surgeon and he recommended that I try PT first and thought I had "frozen shoulder". Thanks to these guys, I am back to 99% normal WITHOUT surgery and feel amazing! I don't have a lot of experience with getting physical therapy and my shoulder was in such bad shape that I went into this with pretty low expectations. But through their expertise and guidance, I got back my mobility and went from being unable to reach above my head to having basically my full range of motion back. Looking back, the progress was really surprising. I was previously in a fair amount of pain and there were a lot of things I couldn't do because of my shoulder. And now, I don't even think about it...everything is back to normal. Thank you so much for fixing my shoulder, and with none of the side effects of surgery! Oh, also they were extremely safe and have good covid-19 procedures in place. Sanitizing after each patient, checking your temperature when you arrive, etc. At no time did I feel at risk for covid-19 despite the close proximity and physical interaction during my therapy. read more

I have known about my moderately severe scoliosis for almost 15 years but had never done anything about it since I have never felt pain. However, it has bothered me since it was visually apparent, and I had been warned that it could affect me later in life. I stumbled upon Body Balance and Beyond almost three years ago and since working with Shah, the curvature of my spine has improved drastically. My last X-ray showed an 11% improvement. Shah trains you so that you can do the exercises yourself. He is a great coach who is able to meet you where you are but also pushes you to challenge yourself. He educates you about how your spine is curved and how the corrections you make through daily exercises or even just being conscious about it can help make improvements. So far, this place has been just wonderful. My mom (in her late 60s) was recently diagnosed with scoliosis and was referred to Body Balance and Beyond. She began her treatment in May 2015, and thanks to Shah, her physical therapist, she now has very little pain. My mom says that Shah is very kind, understanding, patient, professional, encouraging, and has a great sense of humor. :) Maha, greeting people at the front desk, is always so warm and welcoming. It can be pretty jarring to walk into a doctor's office and each time the person at the front desk is rude--no one appreciates that! The staff is professional. Audrey, the physical therapist whom my mom sees for evaluations, is so knowledgeable, professional, optimistic, caring, and sweet. What a great team! I'm sure that it's really reassuring to be in the hands of competent employees. The exercises that Shah has prescribed for my mom are improving her quality of life. The body work that he performs helps to decrease pain as well. She raves about Body Balance & Beyond to me, and I am so happy for her. It's not much fun to see one of your family members in pain. :( The exercises that she does at home in between sessions are sometimes difficult, but she is determined to avoid surgery. Seven years ago I was looking for a place to exercise and I found Body Balance and Beyond on the internet. It was near where I live and after meeting Shah I decided to try it out. Well, seven years later and I'm still going there. He's helped me with my scoliosis, giving me exercises to strengthen my muscles and also keeping me flexible. He also helped my mother in law who at age 88 was showing signs of Parkinson's. After physical therapy sessions with Shah she was able to walk without a shuffle, gain her balance and confidence. She felt so great we took her to NYC at the age of 90. I can't say enough about Body Balance and Beyond! Everyone is friendly from the front desk to the physical therapists. I feel very fortunate to have found Shah at BB&B. I first went to him for a massage and then he introduced me to Gyrotonics, a form of exercise that strengthens, tones and improves flexibility. I have been doing Gyro once a week for 3 years and could not imagine giving it up.....ever! I am so much stronger now because of Gyrotonics and even lost the cellulite on my thighs! Shah has also helped me with my mild case of scoliosis, teaching me special exercises that have helped to relieve pain associated with the scoliosis. So what more could one ask for, a personal trainer, massage therapist, and physical therapist all in one that knows my body's quirks and how to deal with them. read more

The front desk lady has a poor disposition. Additionally, she charged me a $20 "co-pay" which I have only paid $5 at three other physical therapy facilities. When I complained that I thought this sounded too high, she absolutely insisted and wouldn't hear otherwise. The physical therapist seemed standard and mild mannered. Although I only met with her the one time, she provided massage to the aggravated area which was helpful. Scheduling seems very tough. I don't know if they are so wonderful that it is why it is hard to make an appointment... but when I called last month, the not-so-friendly front desk lady told me the first available date would be 5 weeks out! Really?!? So the take-away is... if you have pain, the soonest time to come in is over a whole month! And if you want to have difficult exchanges with an unfriendly front desk lady - feel free to pop in and waste your time. I have gone out of my way to communicate these challenges to my Sports Medicine doctor and all of his staff and folks in the waiting room. read more

Shah is awesome, I've been coming to him because of back pain I've been having due to my scoliosis. Because he knows where your pain spots are, his massages are by far the best massage I've received to date. Shah is very knowledgable (spent a few weeks in Germany learning the Scroth program) and really personable. I would definitely recommend him as a PT. read more

When I first started at Body Balance and Beyond, I was having trouble with lightheadedness that was a lingering result of a concussion. After visiting countless doctors, I had all but given up until a friend recommended Shah at Body Balance and Beyond. I would recommend BB&B to anybody. The practitioners are very knowledgable and effective. They take care to listen and understand what is going on, design effective exercises to improve, and communicate all of this in an understandable way. They were also good about designing exercises I could at home, which I am likely to following through on, versus going to a gym, where I am not. read more

Shah is a talented practitioner, but a total jerk on the phone. He is arrogant about his own ideas and a terrible listener. His professional standards regarding other therapies leaves much to be desired. It's scary to be diagnosed with scoliosis and have very few options that are actually proven to help. But it only makes things worse to have a "professional" be derisive and condescending about other treatment options - especially in front of a teenager trying desperately to be in charge of her own body. It's a total shame to have the very few practitioners of alternative methods of scoliosis treatment be so arrogant and difficult to partner with. read more

This was recommended as one of the options for PT by my orthopedic surgeon's office (Of late they have stopped recommending this place due to negative feedbacks from patients) My experience here is summed up in 2 words -horrible and unprofessional. I'm a physician myself and let me tell you Shah has no clue what he is doing. I went to see him for cervicalgia He is uncommunicative and does not have a clear well defined plan for his patient's recovery. They have a few gyrotronic machines and basically make you work on them for the duration of the appointment. I wasn't given any exercises to do at home or a plan to follow. I wasted my time and money seeing him for 4 months. He canceled on me a couple of times on very short notice and did not have the courtesy to apologize. He lacks bed side manners. He got irritable if I asked him any questions. As a physician with knowledge of anatomy and physiology, lot of his recommendations didn't seem to make sense and were outright counterproductive. My orthopedic/spine surgeon confirmed this. It is shocking how poor his knowledge of anatomy is considering he is a physical therapist. I have a very mild form cervical spine pathology with no herniated discs and yet he always sounded very negative on my prognosis. I finally dumped Shah and started working with a PT in San Francisco . Guess what? I'm pain free and doing great. read more

I've been doing the Schroth exercises for over 6 months now and I have definitely experienced a decrease in pain (about 40%!) This is the best treatment I've found for my scoliosis. I am doing weekly acupuncture and massage as well and it's made a huge difference. read more

I have been seeing Audrey at Body Balance & Beyond for the last 18 months for chronic back pain and instability, shoulder surgery recovery and runners knee. I have nothing but great things to say about her! She's helped me learn the exercises that will build strength where I need it and makes sure I know how to do them properly, building on my "home work" each week. They have all sorts of equipment in the facility to work and she helps me learn exercises there that I can do either at my gym or at home - all the techniques she teaches are dependent on wether I can do them on my own or not. She's super collaborative and inquisitive about works and what doesn't. She's used a number of different modalities for recovery with me depending on the problem: strength, stretching, manual/massage work, electrical stimulation, etc. When I've needed to see Shah due to Audrey being out, I've enjoyed working with him as well. My 12 year old daughter has severe scoliosis. We brought her in for Shah's five day intensive Schroth program in an effort to avoid invasive surgery. It was clear from the beginning that Shah has an intuitive knowledge of how the spine and everything connected to it works. He is easy to work with and gives clear supportive instruction. By the end of the week my daughter's rib rotation had decreased. We were delighted! We continue with a rigorous home exercise program and will return for another intensive in a year. Shah Boroumand at Body Balance and Beyond has helped three generations in our family with scoliosis. Shah was careful and clear in all his explanations and teachings, could personalize exercises for all of us, and is wonderful in interacting with teenagers. All of us were diagnosed with 'mild' scoliosis, but even that can cause a lot of problems over a long lifetime. I am a grandmother in her 70s, diagnosed at 14 with mild scoliosis which later caused disc degeneration -- painful and limiting the ability to walk. Doctors were talking back surgery, but investing several months in learning the Schroth Method exercises with Shah relieved the pain and improved walking so that all normal activities could be done without pain. No more talk of back surgery!! My daughter in her 40s, an avid exerciser, suffered from severe hip and leg pain. Doctors were considering surgery for labrum repair. Instead she worked with Shah and learned the Schroth exercises with super results. Turns out the hip pain was referred from her back, and now she can do all normal activities with no pain. No more talk of hip surgery!! Last Spring my grandson, was diagnosed with scoliosis at 14, and Drs prescribed watch and wait while they assess whether severe scoliosis will develop, requiring braces or more. He decided to take Shah's intensive class on Schroth Method. After working with the method for a few months, his posture was noticeably straighter and his back curves had simplified.
