I had a very disappointing experience with LA Fitness. When I signed up, I was charged $79 for the Pilates program, but the classes never actually started. Months went by without any communication. I was never called, emailed, or notified when the program finally became available. By the time the Pilates program started, I had already canceled my basic $28 membership because I wasn't using the gym. Despite never being notified that the Pilates program had begun, LA Fitness refused to refund the $79 charge. Charging customers for a service that wasn't available when they signed up and then refusing a refund after failing to communicate is unacceptable. On top of that, the facility is often dirty, several machines are broken or out of service, and the staff have not been friendly or helpful when I've raised concerns. Overall, this was a very frustrating experience. Better communication, cleaner facilities, properly maintained equipment, and improved customer service would go a long way. I would not recommend this location based on my experience. read more

Wanted to signup for a membership through insurance with my wife. When I walked in to sign up, I told Ali, that we just wanted to have a membership. But he kept trying to pressure us to sign up for personal training lessons. We kept saying no but he was being insistent. My wife and I got fed up and said we will think about it and walked out. If Ali wasn't so insistent on us having a personal training package, we would have signed up for a membership right then and there. read more

I've never interacted with a business that is more infuriating to deal with that LA Fitness. Every time I go they need something new. A waiver, a photo, register my guest again, now they need the guest photo, etc. Why can't all this have been done when I joined?? My membership includes 1 guest and I pay $40/month. Now that my daughter is home from college I asked to upgrade to the membership that allows 2 guests. They tell me my membership can't be upgraded and that the only way would be to cancel my current membership and sign up for a new one for $45/month. The catch...now I would have to pay a $188 initiation fee and another annual fee which i have already paid! Someone tell me why I canj just pay the additional $5 on my membership for the 2nd guest?!? No one is willing to explain other that my membership "can't do that." Absolutely ridiculous! Plan to cancel altogether and find a new gym! read more

I guess I should chum my experience up to this gym being in the suburbs? Is this how things operate here in Plainfield? I haven't had such a disturbing incident happen to me going to gyms in LA, SF, or Seattle in the last 25 years. I'll try to keep it short. I finished my workout. I went to the locker room to shower and get ready for work. When I approached my locker, an employee had his phone propped up in an open locker, FaceTiming his young daughter. She was facing outward, watching the naked men changing and going to and from the showers. The employee was sitting down, changing, allowing for a full camera view from his phone. Was this on purpose? I tried to bring some awareness to him, "hey, you're in a men's locker room with a young girl on FaceTime" it was a simple statement. No emotion tied to it. He immediately got in my face. Raising his voice. Telling me he doesn't talk to his daughter. When I say, in my face - in my face. He was about to throw down. He was so irrational, he could not see how inappropriate his actions were. I don't want to walk around naked in front of someone's young child. It was absolutely disgusting. His actions as an employee were atrocious. I diffused the situation by just saying, "ok" numerous times, but he wouldn't let up. I grabbed my bag and left. I explained to the front desk what had happened. They didn't care. They told me to contact corporate. I did call corporate to file an official complaint. When I called the gym back directly the next day, the manager, Doug said he took care of it by talking to the employee. What? He was doing something illegal. This employee was videoing in a private men's locker room with nude men walking around with his young daughter watching from the phone. How do we know the daughter wasn't taking screen shots or recording? Then to defend him? He got in my face. The employee acknowledged he was FaceTiming and in Doug's words, "became emotional" After a week of considering my options, I canceled my membership. I don't feel comfortable. Not just with the emlmoyee, but with the management's reaction. Fortunately, a few friends are also canceling after this experience. This was reckless behavior with a poor response by LA Fitness/ESPORTA. I'd rather drive a few extra miles to feel safer. read more

The trainers themselves are really great. Sophie and Keith are kind, knowledgeable, and really work you out. The management is the problem. I signed a new contract with Lukas and we agreed to do biweekly sessions for $140/month. I noticed a month in that I was being charged $140/ weekly and I have been charged over $700 in the last month. I budget myself out of the summer since I am a substitute teacher and now I don't know how I'll make it through the rest of the summer. I spoke to Tyler about it and I felt like there was no empathy or actual effort put in to make this right. I had to ask for corporate's number to which they responded that there was nothing they could do. They told me they couldn't even push back the final payment this upcoming week since it was already scheduled. Tyler at LA told me they could push it back and the woman at corporate said, "oh well if he said we could do that then we should be able to." So they CAN make this right they are CHOOSING not to. So I'm going to be out $900 this month because someone screwed up the paperwork? Absolutely insane. Also, today I got a $49.50 charge from them for the training package I CANCELLED for the new one. This is HORRIBLE business--I have been working out at LA Fitness for 10+ years and they just lost me as a customer. I'm finding a new gym... Just disappointed that I'll be leaving an excellent trainer and will have to drive farther out for a better run business. read more

I will never go to this gym again. I regretted reading the reviews too late and found that I was not the only one with the problem. It turns out that many people here have various problems. The attitude is really disgusting. They don't apologize for their mistakes and pretend that nothing happened. In my second month, they deducted money three times in a month and gave a very reasonable reason because I joined other members and the money was also deducted. They also mentioned the name of the person, but I don't know him and I didn't join anyone. I asked them to show evidence, but they just wouldn't answer my questions. They didn't think they did anything wrong and needed to apologize. They refunded me for the extra charges I found, but unfortunately the next day, they kept calling me to collect money. Because my credit card was maxed out and there was no money, they couldn't collect money from me. So they called me and asked me to give them a new account so that they could collect money from me. I explained, "You have already charged me, why are you charging me again?" But the next morning, I received three calls asking me to pay, which was really annoying. Finally, I got angry and asked them to check that I had already paid and not to deduct money again. But I hung up the phone and they didn't deal with it and deducted the money directly. I had to go to the front desk to get the extra money back. And I quit. Their behavior was so abominable. I will never go to this LA Fitness again, never ! read more

Today 01/04/24 I was working out at this gym. It's been awhile using this location. Been back a couple months now and really happy almost never having to wait for equipment in the morning. Also never had to wait for a lane in the pool to do my laps after my workouts in the morning. On my way out today I stopped to talk to Doug one of the managers. He took his time to talk to me, was very sociable and informative. I have been going to gyms all my life. I say just go in and experience it for yourself. read more

Cleaner than it used to be. However, the hourly paid employees are tremendously lazy and simply sit and visit with each other and the so called manager at the front desk. Is it really necessary to have more than one oerson sit there? I saw a wet spill on the main floor last week. The employees set out a wet floor sign, but it sat there for the 2 hrs I was there until the employee that's hired to clean came in for their shift. That's rediculous when all the other employees were sitting visiting or on their cell phones. What's up with that. They should be on the constant move. Re racking weights and putting equipment away in the designated areas. So much room for improvement that wouldn't cost the company a dime. read more

Run do not walk. Away from this place! If I could give this place negative stars I would! Especially after reading the reviews. We just joined last week. My wife is a double amputee and even with her prosthetics on cannot use any of the equipment. You would think they would have the common decency to waive the cancellation fee? Nope they charged it! We only use the gym twice. It was dirty. It was disgusting. I came in as her guest and the men's locker room you're rolling on grit after taking a shower, your feet are black walking back through. And all of the lockers inside are extremely dirty and absolutely disgusting. Many members that were in the hot tub with us talked about how most times in the hot tub. The foam that forms on top is usually brown. We did not witness this but once again we witness several people getting into a showers hot tub without taking a cleansing shower. None of the equipment is being wiped down. There is no one to assist you trying to get on or off equipment when you're disabled. They're more into to hide in the membership area and not keep an eye on anything IF YOU ARE DISABLED DO NOT GO HERE! Even the clientele that they have coming there is disgusting. It's the most ghetto low life place I have ever seen people work out in! We previously belonged to the YMCA and I tell you what you're better off going there. It's clean, it's affordable and the entire family is only like $85 a month! Oh and then when you call corporate office they treat you like dirt. They tell you you didn't read your contract. They tell you how stupid you are without saying those exact words and when asking to move up the food chain higher to speak with someone who might have some kind of compassion, You are refused! If I could give zero stars I would They are taking advantage of young adults by selling them a promotional "just try us out for a month memberships" while they charge them a $52 fee which is NEVER verbalized to them but is in the many "papers" given which sadly a barely adult does not have the life experience to read and really understand what they are getting themselves into and then they refuse to refund them the fee even though the 1 month trial has not even expired !!! Never really had a problem at this location. I pretty much come to workout and go home but I have noticed lately on the weekends. They usually lock their doors 45 minutes to an hour early before closing. Since that's been the case just close at 7pm simple fix. That is a major turn off for me because it's false advertising, latest incident happened Sunday, October 22, 2023. Maybe corporate or management should look into this. If it wasn't to someone walking out, I wouldn't have been able to go in and workout and it was only 7:08 PM. Even the gentleman walking out just shook his head and said "this place gets more and more ridiculous". read more

Don't go to this gym. Their corporate level is terrible. They closed their location in Oswego (not my fault) and continued charging fees even after cancelation. Upon dispute (multiple calls before reaching someone competent) they said they wouldn't keep charging going forward as if it was some sort of reward, but refused to issue refunds for 3 errant billing cycles. I even had backdated proof of cancelation and they still refused to refund. Will dispute with my credit card company. read more

Shocker they marked one of them. Just FYI folks I have been working out for many years do not let them talk you into buying training sessions. Cost way to much and very basic. Save your money. I've been a LA Fitness member for well over 7 years. This gym is by far the most ghetto location. Old equipment and damaged equipment. There is a bollard in the parking lot that is dangerous and damaged. How does this center repair? Remove? Replace ? Nah...... take a look at their ghetto fix. I go to this gym about 4 times per week. I really like the facilities, there's nothing missing and it's not too heavily trafficked for the amount of machines. They have lots of arm/leg machines, elipticals, treadmills, and classes for free with membership like Zumba and Cycling. The smoothies are amazing. I could have a strawberry/blueberry protein smoothie every day haha. The pool is nice.. almost always a lane open and not too heavy on chlorine in the water or air. They have no towels though so you have to bring your own. The hours are my only complaint. Weekdays they're open late until midnight which works out great but the weekends they close crazy early which makes it a hang out with friends OR gym instead of both, which sucks. The price is reasonable for the amenities.. just be sure to talk down the initial sign up fee ;) Id recommend this gym for sure. read more

Have no idea what ever happened to this facility. Everyone was so nice when this club opened. Staff was professional, the place is really gone down hill. Equipment &even doors are always broken & it seems many of the good people are no longer around. Bad experiences with staff management even workers. I've been a member since they opened & even though I try to see the very best in everyone. I just feel like I might need to go somewhere else. This place is not clean at all. It was bad last year so I suspended my membership. I thought I would give it another try. Since November 2019, every time I go , paper towels all over the locker room and around the machines. The men's urinals have never been cleaned since I started back up The last straw , that will make me cancel my membership is , I have gotten hives the past two times from sitting in the hot tub. I have been going to this location for about 3 years. Often the jacuzzi is not working for long periods of time and cleanliness is not a priority at this location. Illinois mask mandate is not being enforced and I have called the corporate office several times. They have done nothing. I am immune suppressed and do not always feel safe. It is the only facility in the area with a pool/jacuzzi and with joint disease those are they only services I can use. I wish they could do better! read more

Broken equipment constantly, the gym closing with no notice, the bathrooms are always out of soap, paper towels and toilet paper. Was visiting this LA Fitness from my home LA Fitness. Had an ok workout but when I grabbed a cardio ball the trainer said that the ball I took was for the training area. I asked, "ok, do they have a bunch of different sizes back there?" To which she replied, "yup, and if they don't oh well...". She could tell she was rude so I asked for name and she wouldn't give it. I've been here a couple of times with my wife - she's a member here as they have a pool. If you just like to lift and do cardio, there's far better places to do it that cost a lot less. The number of cardio machines they have are severely lacking. I can see where waiting for machines would be an issue during peak or even semi peak hours. The pool and hot tub are OK. Aside from the fact they exist, they're nothing special. I have noted that the rescue backboard in the pool area has been missing a head/neck support for weeks (Probably longer) and nobody does anything about it - kind of a big safety issue. They do offer classes, racketball, and spinning - but overall it's overpriced. I already pay $19/month at Planet Fitness, and for what I use their facility for I could get away with the $9.95/month plan. Though I do like the pool, LA Fitness does not offer $10/month more value than PF - especially if you have to wait or be limited on time on equipment. No contracts, but sales are very high pressure as well and pricing is changing often and is intentionally confusing. You have to really check frequently and compare offers to see if you're getting a good value on a membership here. Lastly - no public WiFi here. What kind of Luddite facility is this? read more

Great club, clean, friendly, great options, a lot of variety. Classes are filled with energy. Smoothie bar is a definite plus.

This facility, like many other LA Fitness locations, needs a lesson on proper cleanliness & sanitation. The locker room areas are carpeted (STUPID) and it smells like an armpit in there. Very little mopping or cleaning is being done in the tiled areas. It's a shame because the place was built & equipped well, but the day to day operations are bad. I brought it to the Manager's (Jake) attention who seemed uninterested in my complaint. They have one kid, 20 something, who refills soap dispensers & keeps TP stocked. He probably has no idea how to use a mop or sanitize with bleach. The nice wooden lockers appear to have never been wiped out or wiped down with all the grime & hair inside them. And the trainers, YES, they walk around like roosters in the hen house as the other reviewer stated. Poorly managed ! I will be adding pictures if things don't change for the better. read more

I only joined this place since the charter fitness out that way was really small and lacking equipment last time I was there. The price isn't bad but the three levels of sign up fees is a scam and the sales guys are just like used car salesman. Especially the longer hair'd guy that drives the BMW roadster and snags front row parking everyday. I brought a friend in that was thinking about joining and this clown comes up not wearing shoes and makes some grade school joke about my friends last name. Then left for lunch with his license he held while we worked out. Pros- Not too busy if you go before 4-5pm. -Plenty of machines and in good quality. -Sauna and pool are usually empty. Cons- Cocky and annoying car salesman staff. - No towels - People always trying to take up more than one machine. - Weights usually not re-racked. - Hot tub has never been hot. - Plenty of the beats audio studio headphone crowd. -No key drop at the front. - You have to wait for someone to scan your key chain unless it's late or some weekends, then they leave it out. -Layout could be better. - The basketball court usually turns hood later in the day with the frequent arguing and yelling. - The personal trainers will try to but in on you're machine if they have a client. - Not 24hrs. - No wifi. Overall it's not too bad. They try to please everyone so nothing is 100%. Definitely would join xsport if it were closer. Will probably quit soon for something with less housewives. read more

I signed up with LA Fitness as soon as they opened and I went religiously for over a year, and during that time I noticed a steady decline in the cleanliness of the gym as well as the friendliness of the staff. They come off like they are at a bar and not at their job. Rarely do I see a staff member talking to a client that is not a 90 pound girl in tight spandex pants. Over the years, I have trained with all sorts of different trainers, from marathon runners to amature boxers to powerlifters and I can tell you that I wouldn't sign up for personal training at LA if even if it was free. I have watched and listened in on at least 15 to 20 sessions and can tell you that at least 5 out of 10 of the trainers that I've observed over the last two years have had absolutly no idea what they were talking about. They were simply telling their client what they were trained to. It was embarassing how little they actually knew about muscles and the human body. I was also very disappointed when I tried to freeze my membership because I was in my 9th month of pregnancy and my doctor ordered bedrest. They insisted they couldn't help me and I had to write corporate. But my letter had to be recieved and entered into their computers at least a week before my payment date. Needless to say it didn't make it there in time and I ended up paying for a whole month I couldn't use. The only reason I still have a membership at LA is for the classes. I espically LOVE going to their Piates and yoga classes. The problem is that they only offer pilates once a week and yoga only twice a week. You would think that they could possibly fire a few of the front desk staff and hire more people to do classes! read more

Just visited La Fitness in Joliet Il. for our first visit . We are a senior couple with no familiarity with the fitness environment. Mind you we are there through the Silver Sneaker Program For those of you that are not familiar this is a government perk us older individuals receive if we are on Medicare for our health and well being . It costs us zero to join . We walked in the door and were greeted by the most courteous and respectful group we have ever encountered. My wife was given a gratis program keyed to her age and physical condition .We have complete access to a full service clean and well run facility Her personal trainer Bryson ran through a tailored program to insure safety and enjoyment Do you self a favor and check it out read more

loved this gym when it was LA but it honestly went downhill when it changed to esporta. use to be such a good vibe place but now you can feel like a ghost trying to get any sort of attention and when you want to cancel, you can only go in or send a paper to wait for it to be canceled. i rather just go to planet fitness with all those rules instead of having to have a more difficult time to cancel then to set up a membership and that includes a lot of signatures. also if you want to cancel then you have specific days you can cancel on (use to never be like that, would watch people cancel all the time when i would wait for my dad to get out of the locker rooms). there's been times where i had some financial issues and they would call me almost everyday to update my payment and never gave me a way to cancel or never brought it up for me to cancel it. also life for people isn't always sunshine and rainbows so they should give an option on the app to cancel, (i had to grieve 5 deaths and had no motivation to go in and was STILL having to pay for it). i'm surprised this gym is still open with all the reviews i've read and how they treat people nowadays. read more
