Body Xchange in my opinion is a good gym. I haven't had any problems with staffs or with anybody at the gym. I've coming to this gym for around 2 years and in my 2 years I've met some really helpful people. In the reviews I've read, it seems that some of the staffs are "rude" and not "helpful", but in my 2 years of being here I've never had a rude staff or an unhelpful staff. One thing that does kind of get to me is the gym can be really cold or really hot sometimes. read more

They do not repair anything, arbitrarily change your monthly rate higher whenever they feel like it, the hours are cut so you can barely workout on weekends, they continuously cut services and equipment and then charge you more. I helped my Grandson sign up for a membership in Jan of this year (2024) At the time we weren't told there would be additional fees added on at the one month mark. I was then asked to tell them my form of payment which would be a debit card. While the rep was finalizing the paperwork I changed my mind on which debit card to use so I asked to switch out the one I gave them to a different one which they said would be no problem. On 2/21/24 my grandson went to the gym to work out but was told he had to clear up his account first. They said they tried to use the debit card I gave them but it was declined and they added on a late fee of $19.50. I asked them what card they used and it turned out to be first card I gave when it was supposed to the last one I gave them so I gave them the correct card again and I was charged a total of $59.49. I at that time also told them we were told the first three months there was no dues. I went ahead and paid it but confused as to why I should not have paid anything especially with a late fee if there weren't to be club dues for the first 3 months. I didn't act on it right away. But on 3/8/24 the gym tried to bill my card another $49.99 and it didn't go through. Thankfully. I called and spoke to the gym manager Jason and spoke w him about this. He advised me of the fees as well as membership dues. I told him about the first three months being free and NEVER told about a yearly membership fee. He asked who did our contract and I told him I don't remember. He said it was odd or weird that no ones name was attached to it so he had no way of verifying what I was told. He said to give him a couple of days and he would check w cooperate to see what he could do for me. I let him know I wasn't paying anything until I heard back from him in order to protect myself from another late fee. I waited until Monday afternoon 3/11/24 and called asking to speak w him because I noticed not only was I charged the membership fee but also the late fee for a total of $69.49. This is becoming unreal at this point. Jason got on the phone and said cooperate agreed to credit the first late fee to my grandsons dues payment. I told Jason they added another one and I wanted reimbursed as well. So he said he would contact cooperate again about this and call me back. On Tuesday at 2:45 pm I called and asked to speak w Jason and advised he was helping another customer and would give him my message so he could call me back when he was done. I waited and Jason never called me. So today I called again and spoke w Jason and he said they would credit both late fees to the 3/29/24 membership dues so technically my grandson won't have to pay anything until 4/29/24 when his following bill would be due. He then told me Cooperate won't budge on waiving the other fees that I never agreed to. They just don't. This unfairly and morally wrong on their part. When I said that we would just close our membership because I was told we were in a 14 month contract and if I canceled early I would have to pay a penalty for it. Again this was something else I was never advised of. For the record I was told only the first two months of the membership dues were free and nothing has been approached about the fact we were charged his first dues at the end of the first month. Technically we shouldn't have to pay anything more until 5/29/24. I tried to get cooperates phone number to call and speak to someone myself about all of this and was told they couldn't give them number I had to email them about it. If I could do this all over again I would have never gone there in the first place. My recommendation for anyone who is considering joining this gym to look at this plus all of the bad ones and RUN. Go someplace else. Somewhere where they have a history of having good customer service and act ethically with their business. read more

I signed up for a promotion during COVID months 11/2020. I NEVER sign up for contracted memberships, so I made sure this was month-to-month. The signup was a breeze. However, the gym was always crowded, the layout was awkward, and the better machines were never available. I tried canceling and got an email saying my request was denied unless I paid $100. I responded saying that I never signed up for a contract. They never replied. Their website doesn't have their corporate number, just an address. I begrudgingly decided to just let it charge $16/mo until the year was over. However, I called my gym and asked for their corporate number. When I called, I got an answering machine that said for membership questions to email them. Then the call was ended. What a terrible business setup--at least for the customer. I will never ever go back to them. I'd rather pay In Shape's slightly higher cost for better quality gyms and easy cancellation. read more

Just like everyone else, If I could give them no stars I would. Body Xchange as a whole has terrible customer service, from the employees at the many locations I attended to corporate. When I began to attend I went to a few different locations to see which was my perfect fit to attend on a daily basis. Every single one had terrible customer service! ignored that of course and continued to attend until I moved from Bakersfield and of course have been giving me the hardest time to cancel my membership. I moved in May and still CAN'T cancel. I've called corporate, emailed corporate, and even mailed a letter with my signature and all. Since I've mailed the letter they are still charging me and even had the nerve to send me a letter saying my electronic funds haven't been going through??? Excuse me?? I have proof of bank records showing they are still charging me every month. it is very upsetting having to deal with them. Should have never left In-Shape, was paying more but at least they cared about their customers and didn't give you this hard of a time when trying to cancel. Not a good first gym trust me they want you to sign a contract for a year and if you want to cancel they will charge 100 dollars and there is a maintenance fee that will pop up at random that they don't tell you about. And to cancel you have to send in a 15 day notice can't cancel on the spot because they will still charge for the month. They service was horrible the manager was very aggressive and condescending due to my age thinking that I didn't know better. Hope this is some help on deciding if this is good choice for you. Body Xchange Pros: Great local gym for people near the panama/wible intersection. Staff was always nice with hellos and goodbyes. Cons: Machines stay broken for ages, no complimentary towels, no extra amenities like pool or saunas, basketball pool or track, but I guess you learn that when you sign up. WARNING/CAUTION. I would seriously advice against starting a yearly membership with these guys. They do some real sneaky stuff when it comes to cancelling your membership. First of all they have a 15 day clause, which is absolute B.S. You know the real reason they put this in place is so that they can charge you one last time before you actually leave. So make sure you cancel 15 days before and make sure you have some documents or proof of it. If you read the rest of the negative reviews on yelp you will see why. So I had expressed to them that management was being sneaky and taking extra funds so I decided to quit and take my business elsewhere. When I tried to quit it was supposed to be 35 dollars if anything because I quit "14" days before instead of 15 which is not true. Then they tell me we can wave your $35 fee to quit, but you will still have to pay $50 annual maintenance fee. Which was amusing because I'm leaving the gym, why do I want to pay a fee for maintenance when I get no benefit. They only did this so they can extract and extra 15 dollars from me. KRISTINA RUCH was the person who was the hardest to deal with. They simply wanted as much cash from me before I quit. Be very cautious of this person. Everything was going fine until I had to deal with her. Still have friends at that gym which sucks the most. Body exchange gyms are a hotspot for covid-19 transmission. On May 17th they lifted their mask requirement for all members regardless of whether they were vaccinated or not. The owners care nothing about the health of their members their families or the community in general. They only care about money. I immediately canceled my membership on May 17th when the new policy came out because the gyms were no longer safe. They have continually harassed me and demanded money and are threatening lawsuits since I canceled my membership back on May 17th. These are very very bad people who care nothing about anybody except money. Do not ever join anybody exchange gyms in Bakersfield!! read more

First of all, this is one long review. I have portioned it off in sections so you may read the portion that you are most interested in. This review is mostly in regards to the White Lane location; however, I have seen common issues at the Panama, East Bakersfield, and Downtown locations. Which is why I've decided to copy and paste this review onto those Yelp listings as well. Intro: I'm sorry to say I must update my review on this gym. I have been a member of this gym from the moment I was legally able to sign a contract on my own. Some Pros and Cons: Being here for 8 years, I've seen it all. Yes, I've dealt with the lack of hygiene, the broken machines, the inconvenience to members when they make repairs/remodel, the unprofessional staff (some of the staff are great, but about 70% are terrible), the shitty music, and the contract issues. I've dealt with it all, why do I stay? The basketball court, the people, and the convenient locations. Don't get me wrong, this gym does have positives. The people who come here are great people and they're very down to earth. Some of the staff members are very friendly and actually greet you with a smile when you make eye contact. I've never felt uncomfortable here and I've always gotten great workouts at this location. However, it's tough overlooking all the negatives. I mean, I've been a loyal member and I value that a lot; however, I don't feel the loyalty is appreciated whatsoever. As a member of this club, I really do feel like just a number. A number in the accounting books of the owner when he sees my payment come through every month. Customer Service: The recent management of the boxing area and the basketball court have made me decide on rewriting my review. I understand not all members treat the facilities with respect. I understand a few members can be "bad apples." However, that does not mean you "punish" the rest of the people who pay a membership fee to access your facilities. If part of the facilities are not permitted for use, does that mean part of our monthly payment can be withheld? Doesn't work that way. I respect the owner as a business man; however, my opinion is that he's got it all wrong in terms of customer service. The customer is ALWAYS right, and in this case the customer is not being treated as a customer, rather as a child. It is very disrespectful to all members who come here, pay on time, and treat the facilities with care. Customer service is huge in this industry, and I believe Body Exchange is lacking the proper training for it's entire staff corporation wide. For example, during this recent mismanagement of the facilities I came up to one of the trainers and respectfully expressed my concern. He immediately defended the actions made to close down part of the facilities saying (this is to the best of my memory), "Well now hopefully we can have some of the members appreciate and respect the basketball floor. Maybe we can learn from this." I felt like he was talking to "us" as children. Us referring to the people who play basketball often. I asked why this course of action was taken so swiftly and drastically when there was never a notice of the concern. There were never any signs posted to please clean up (I understand this is common courtesy, but some people do need reminders). He replied, "Well it's something you should know to do. We also said a few things word of mouth." I'm there quite regularly and never did I see a staff member come onto the basketball floor and express the concern. NOT ONCE did he say "I'm sorry for the inconvenience." Or a "you're right, we could've done this instead." Remember, the customer is ALWAYS right. I don't want to name anyone on here. The gentleman is usually very kind and welcoming. I always say hello to him and he greets me in return. I have nothing against him I just disagreed with his responses to my question. Contract issues: Unfortunately, I'm running out of room to explain this issue. Yelp just told me to wrap it up. I will sum it up by saying, BE CAREFUL WHEN ENTERING A CONTRACT WITH BX. All of these gyms have managers who's focus is to increase numbers. It's more about quantity rather than quality for them; and if something comes up to where you have to terminate your contract, THEY WILL NOT WORK WITH YOU. Bad customer service, me and my mom almost regret signing a one year contract with them. Today was our first day there and the girl that we had an appointment with apparently did not know we had an app. with her. So we made an appointment, then we wanted to check out the drop in fitness classes, the schedule was not even posted anywhere. The lady in the front said I had to look online?? and then showed me an old schedule from last year?! You get more amenities at 24 and only have to pay slightly more... We did not receive a tour of the place, did not get a tour of the place, they did not seemed concerned or attentive at all. I am very disappointed with Body Xchange... I tried to cancel my membership by email in March and was told all offices are closed because of COVID-19 but all membership billing was frozen. I was never informed that the gym had re-opened and only found out because I saw a charge on my bank account. I went to see how they were handling social distancing and noticed no one wearing a mask, no one wiping equipment, and no one social distancing. I asked the clerk at the front how it was that they considered the operations safe and he told me they were doing cleaning every few hours and requiring people to wear masks when entering and exiting at areas of high traffic. Just then, someone came out through to the door with no mask. I asked the clerk how come he did not say anything and he said they did not actually request but, instead, recommend that people wear masks. I decided to cancel my membership before they charged me for the other membership I had for my son. Days after I requested the cancellation, I got one more bill and then 2 more (for the "annual service fee"). I called to request a refund but was told anything after 15 days after a cancellation request is fair game for them to request fees. I complained that I had requested a cancellation back in March and was denied it and I had not even been notified that the gym was re-open until I saw the membership charges. The response was, essentially, that's too bad and no refund would be provided. I went back to look at my email to make sure I did not miss any notices about the gym re-opening and found nothing. I called again to request a refund and say no notification was provided about the gym re-opening and offered to send my email requesting cancellation back in March. No luck again. $120 is not going to send me to bankruptcy but it might make a big difference to someone in more dire straits AND, it is simply wrong for them to charge me for a service I am not even aware is available to me. I know they must have been hit badly by the closures but the way they went about charging and not notifying is disreputable and unacceptable. I also suspect I am not the only one with the same issue... I discourage anyone from signing up for Body Xchange. read more

I really like working out at this gym. The time I go, there's always equipment open. I can't complain too much. The front desk is always friendly in the morning. They always open right when they say they do. The only thing that I don't like is that whenever they have a workout class for 5 people they close the dance room (or whatever it's referred to). There's so much room in there and we are unable to use the room. Classes don't cost any extra money and are included in the membership. We pay the same amount as those members in the studio, so why can't we use it when there's a max of 3 people inside there? The whole back side of the studio is open. I understand privacy but some members like to do ab workouts, bike, rowing, and their own HIIT workouts. We can't do that when there's minimum room with the equipment. If someone is being disruptive inside then that's when they shouldn't be allowed inside. This is my only issue with this place. read more

They only have 3or 4 benches if that when I brought this up to the associate named Omar all he said to me was for 5$ more you can sign to use our other clubs too . I was like nope I'm not interested in going to multiple clubs. He then changed his whole attitude and basically told me ok bye- he looked like a mad little girl. His demeanor and attitude is horrendous STEROID ALERT !!!! First Omar was friendly and joking around he let me use the gym and when I expressed to him just what I mentioned above about the benches he became a total asshole!!! The equipment is another story. I love going to the gym , I just moved from Venice and I used to go to golds gym . I want to advise all fit people to stay away from this gym. This company is nothing short of a SCAM for money! They don't even deserve one star! They are predators! Only out to make a buck off of your late fees. In my opinion, they intentionally lose paperwork, not only mine but others I have spoken to! They send you to collections without so much as ONE courtesy call! You sign up, they take your paperwork and your banking info and then claim to have misplaced the banking paperwork so in turn your monthly dues are never withdrawn from your account and then you are notified 10 months later!! And told, it's your responsibility to check on these issues! My responsibility? I was told it's more convenient to have it automatically withdrawn so that we I, the customer, is not bothered with a monthly bill in the mail!!! Now thanks to this so called health club, my 19 year old daughter has been sent to collections for 395.00!!! I absolutely love this gym and the people that work there! The gym is clean, well organized, and welcoming. The staff are friendly and helpful. I especially love the Pure Core personal trainers. I have been working with Angel and he has been very encouraging, patient, and challenging. I definitely recommend coming here and giving the personal trainers a shot. Machines are always broken, the gym has started to smell, and this location has just overall started to go downhill. The staff is the only think holding down a star for this place otherwise I would try to rank it a zero. The owner does not care to fix equipment(even with countless complaints from customers and his own staff). The owner is much more concerned with his personal Vegas trips and feeding his opposite of Pepsi habit than actually fix equipment for the customers that give him those luxuries. Is it too much to ask for a gym that actually has working machines and no missing bars or equipment? Stay away! I gave body xchange 2 stars because this place does have great equipment and a variety of machines. However the staff is very stuck up especially the receptionist up front .
