The first impression wasn't great but the food was exactly what I was craving. I ordered a combo which included potatoes, corn, sausage, green mussels, black mussels, and lemon pepper sauce. Everything I had was but delicious. It was also a big mess, but I expected that. I was glad the potatoes were soft but still solid enough to maintain their shape. It would have been a bigger mess if the potatoes were too soft. I'm not sure why there was a police car parked outside but that was definitely a surprise. I think the officer was on the phone(?) with someone but it wasn't obvious so people seemed to keep pausing to figure out if he was speaking to them. When I got inside I saw a big group which seemed to be a bit annoyed because they couldn't get seated until the rest of their party arrived. I do understand restaurants wanting to seat the whole table at the same time but it did make the entrance/exit a bit crowded for everyone else. I didn't look around inside too much but did see empty tables. I approached the two people at the front desk about my pick-up order and they pointed me to a different pick-up desk (with two more people there). They had maybe ten bags of pick-up orders but were able to find mine quickly. I was pretty glad to get out of there quickly and enjoy our food at home. read more

I've been to Norfolk Boil Bay three times so far. I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 stars because my third visit was during lunch and the quality wasn't quite the same as my dinner experiences. That said dinner here is amazing. I usually order the 1-pound seafood boil and it never disappoints in the evening. The dinner atmosphere is much more lively great music playing, good vibes all around and even a dance floor open for anyone who wants to get up and dance. Boil Bay is a great time! I went out with some coworkers for a celebration. Our server was Dylan and he was able to accommodate our large group. He was friendly and helpful. I had the crab cake po boy and it was great. The crab cakes had a good amount of crab (no excess filler) and the sauce on top was flavorful. The fried Mac and cheese was also very tasty. The coconut shrimp left much to be desired. I appreciate that they are made in house instead of frozen and reheated. But the flavors weren't working together for me. Since going to Boil Bay, I've tried several other seafood boil restaurants. For me, the thing that sets Boil Bay apart is its cajun fried rice. The last two times I went here were very disappointing. Two years ago, this place was amazing. The food was on point and the atmosphere was fun and exciting. Now, it has really gone downhill. The crabs and the bags were skimpy and disappointing, nothing to rave about or take pictures of. I will not bring friends from out of town here any longer. First time here hoping the food is better than being served with only 1 set of menu for 2 people. First menu is a happy hour menu and second is the actual menu. ODD if you ask me!! My hubby could have asked for another set of menu but I was going to tell him to do that. I ended up hogging the menu (of course). I ordered the boil #3 1/2 lbs of shrimp head on and 1/2 lbs of little neck clams with the house special boil sauce (mix of garlic, lemon pepper and Cajun sauces). My hubby ordered Caesar Salad and Soft Shell Crab Po Boy. Hopefully this one is a better experience than yesterday dinner at Wicker's. THE RESTAURANT well, this is a HUGE restaurant with I believe, a dance floor? Damn. If the food is good, I can see myself coming back during the time where I can use the dance floor. Restroom is also BIG! THE FOOD My seafood boil: not the best, I have had better in Atlanta but it's still yummy especially compared to Wicker's yesterday. 1/2 lbs of clams is not enough. Forgot that clamshells are heavy. The same review applies to my husband's soft shell crab po boy and, of course, the very generic Caesar salad. Whew chillllllllllllllllllllllld!!! I love it here! My daughter's bestie and I share the same birthdate :) Her bestie suggested we celebrate our birthday here... welp... done deal. I am in love with the boil bay sauce. Now out of 15 of us, only one, my aunt, did not care for the meal nor the boil bay sauce, I attribute that to her pallet, but I recommend you at least try it. The cocktails were tasty and I love the ambiance. I asked the server about the huge stage inside and he advised, they will be featuring live music, djs and acts in the upcoming weeks months... as a result, since our visit, I believe this aspect of the restaurant is in full effect. It is huge inside and very airy... love it! Parking, no issue at all. I suggest you try the boils instead of ordering a la carte, unless you really plan on not eating a lot. I cannot recall which combo option I chose, but hopefully my pics give you an idea. The wings with the boil bay sauce were excellent! Since this visit, my daughter has requested to return for the crab legs and wings. This restaurant is definitely a treat...please don't think $20 will get you right... go ahead and double that and see if you like it. I recommend you give this place a try. Let me start by saying, I love boil bay. This was my graduation dinner from my wife. We had an 8 person group and the staff sat us as a table for 12, so this is perfect for large parties. Our server was great. Bubbly and playful personality which made ordering feel pressure free and unrushed. This was a Thursday so the drink special was a Kentucky apple martini, had to have one! It was strong enough to taste the alcohol but not make it over powering. My wife commented it tasted like cheaper liquor but for $6 I couldn't complain. I created my own bag with 1pound of shrimp, 1pound of green mussels and all potatoes. I got the spiciest heat level with garlic butter flavoring. I also added a side of rice which I like to dump into my boil sauce! What I can say is this place can get pricey pretty quick. We ended up spending about $90 for my wife and I. I would also like to note, for parties 6 or more there is an automatic 18% gratuity which equated to about $15 of our tab.
