This is the best seafood in Hampton Roads! I'm from coastal Georgia and have high expectations for seafood. Nothing was quite what I was looking for until I found Surf Rider. Everything I've had has been delicious and they are getting high quality seafood. This is where I recommend for anyone asking for seafood here. Service has always been friendly and fast, they have great drink options, and the views are great. Highly recommend!

Flounder dinner is always the star of the show! Also had some clams and crab legs not pictured they were cooked to perfection. Service was excellent as always!

I love the food here, the menu choices and the full bar. However I don't always feel completely welcome by the staff. Therefore I went here with the intention of placing a to go order, having a drink at the bar while I waited. When I entered I almost bumped into someone coming from the back. I stopped myself and immediately said "oh hello, how are you?" The person just kept walking. I went to the hostess mentioned wanting to place a to go order, she let me know that the bar could take care of me. I walked over to the bar and sat, while the bartender wizzed back and forth helping someone else. She eventually said she would be with me soon. Fun fact, the bartender was the woman I bumped into on my way in. I was kinda shocked at the lack of friendliness toward me. Maybe a bad day, I assumed. However she was very pleasant and polite with the other customers at the bar. I ordered a mojito while waiting for my crabcake ceaser salad. Both were great and is the sole reason why I do come here. I hope whatever the bartender was experiencing gets better for her, and I hope I was nothing I personally did.

You can never go wrong with Surf Rider. I had no idea they opened another Norfolk location. When I found out I was excited. Get a seat by the window for a beautiful experience. Our Waitress Jennifer was the absolute best! She was ver attentive and efficient. The she crab soup was amazing!! Just needed a little more meat, but it was still amazing. The shrimp are colossal and fried to a golden perfection. My dad and sister got the platter and they enjoyed it. We all got salads as a side and the lettuce was fresh and crisp. If you are a lover of seafood you must check them out.

This is one of my favorite seafood spots! I was kind of upset that the greenbrier location had shut down, but atleast this location is still open. The view is so pretty! Right from the inside you can see the water and the beautiful skies. I had got a table right next to the window so that I could enjoy the view up close and witness with sunset. My usual go to is the fried shrimp. They are jumbo in size and is delicious! Most meals comes with two sides. One of my favorite side to get is the broccoli. Its sooo huge!! and fresh tasting!

We really enjoyed our lunch at this Surf Rider location. We were surprised to find this hidden gem beyond all of the construction. Ambiance has that relaxed, coastal feel and family friendly. Pretty views of the marina. Service and food were very good. Met all of our expectations for a local seafood restaurant. Fresh!

Typical seafood-by-the-water kind of restaurant: good basic food, beautiful view of the Bay Point Marina, little over-priced but not as pricey as some other sit-down places in Norfolk. The hot crab dip was tasty (especially with the unique pita chips), the scallops were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the broiled crab cake was yummy (elevated by the homemade tartar sauce).

It was heartbreaking when the Surf Rider at Taylor's Landing closed due to sinking ground. They promised to open another in the area. Finally that day has come. Surf Rider, East Beach is on the opposite side of Little Creek Inlet from the Taylor's Landing location. But the great news is that it's also in a marina location. So you have a view of the inlet, the Navy ships docked across the inlet at JEB Little Creek/Fort Story, and the boats docked at the marina where the restaurant is located. Navigation to the restaurant can be a little tricky the first time. From Shore Drive traveling west: Turn right onto Pretty Lake Road, the eastern boundary of the East Beach neighborhood. Enjoy the pretty new construction and picture yourself living so near the water. But remain vigilant. Pretty Lake, as it nears the marina & condo's, will split into Marina Dr. Watch for a right turn just past the marina building. Turn there & immediately turn right again. Voila!! You just turned into the parking lot for Surf Rider. It's really easy to miss. There is ample parking in the restaurant dedicated lot. It's different but the same. There is still outdoor & indoor seating. But it's missing the large outside deck with tables & a bar and the boat parking of Taylor's Landing. Check the marker board as you enter. The specials and sides are listed. My guess is that there is less seating than Taylor's Landing so sometimes there's a wait. But there was at the larger restaurant also. Great seafood is worth waiting for. Oh.....And they're closed on Mondays. Why? Especially during tourist season.... The menu includes the same wonderful choices as the other Surf Riders. They do have the best Crab Cakes in Coastal Virginia!! And for seafood purists their Fried Shrimp is the best. (Just Fried Shrimp & Cocktail Sauce is the way it should be). You can even order an entree with one Crab Cake & Fried Shrimp. If you're lucky you might be there on Potato Cake day. Yum!!! You'll love the Hush Puppies. And don't pass up the Crab Dip Appetizer. Their cocktails are good. But don't expect sommelier wine choices. This is a Seafood Restaurant. But it has plenty of other choices for those of you who have chosen to not delight your palate with wonderful Chesapeake Bay catch. Surf Rider: Your seafood is "The Bomb"!!

This review actually has two great businesses because I visited Klassic Doughnut's food truck too! Ok first things first. Every Wednesday through this Summer Klassic Doughnuts food stand will be available at COVA 8-11 AM. They are in my opinion the best cake doughnuts in our area. They are a major draw for COVA. I purchased a few to go. With COVA I specifically wanted to try their coffee. I was blown away upon arrival to see their outdoor space. It's huge and beautiful. On a weekday at 11 AM without school even out was busy! The counter service was helpful and friendly. I told the staff I wanted a black coffee and was directed to what beans were being offered. I opted for an Ethiopian pour over. The coffee comes in a large and priced competitive. It took a bit with being busy and a pour over, but boy was the wait worth it. Probably the best coffee I've had in any recent memory and I drink a lot of coffee. The space inside is compact, but they offer a side patio that's covered too! COVA is late to offering coffee, maybe 5 years or so. However, they are established with brewing award winning beer. I chatted with a female brewer a minute who was so sweet and invited me back for a glass. They also have a bakery case with offerings that looked good. So I need to return. So exciting to share such a gem in East Beach. Parking may be an issue, but off street neighborhood streets are available.

I am a big fan of sour beers and this brewery hits the mark. The brewery itself is definitely a more open brewery. There's a quick line on busy days, but the bartenders are quick and efficient and make the line move. The bar itself has picnic table like seating and a huge open area outside, with each table having a QR code for food/beer etc. This last time, I had the pimento grilled cheese, with tomato soup and it's the perfect snack for a winter day. When heading towards the bathroom, there was a huge chalkboard of posted events coming up as well as another section for events. I really do like a brewery that has events in the area to make people come and visit and it gives people a chance to experience cool events in the area while having a familiar place to go afterwards or before. I Came here for coffee one morning, and the coffee as well was excellent. I enjoyed the 007 which is a shaken espresso, Highly recommend! They also have pastries, we got the blueberry scone, chocolate chip scone and the cheese danish. All were great and tasted fresh. Not what you would expect from a brewery in the morning, but it was well worth the trip. Though there weren't many people in the restaurant at all, the kitchen was really backed up and it took a long time for our food to come out. This didn't make sense at all honestly, so I'm not sure what the issue was. Didn't get to snap a picture, but they had a decent little amount of arcade games inside, which was pretty cool; wasn't expecting to see those in there. Also one of the dessert items I wanted to try: the salted caramel brownie, was out of stock, so I did have to change my dessert choice; unfortunately. To drink: I got the Watermelon Limeade (8.5/10) it was easy to drink, honestly just tasted like a fruity soda with a very tiny buzz to it. I would've liked it a bit more if it was a little stronger. Also tried the Dirty Berry Mojito (10/10) I absolutely loved the flavor of this Mojito and it was a lot stronger than the limeade. Def had a buzz after finishing it. After I was done, felt like I should've really just ordered two of the mojitos only. To eat: I got half Strawbenero BBQ (9/10) and half Spicy Garlic Ranch (6.5/10) boneless wings. The strawberry-habanero mix wings were really different and unique. When I first bit into them, I tasted the strawberry glaze and after a few more chews, that's when the spice settled in. I think it was different and actually pretty good. As for the spicy garlic ranch wings, I feel like they really tasted like regular buffalo sauce wings. I'm not sure if the kitchen mixed up what flavors I ordered, but they def tasted like regular buffalo and not anything garlicky or ranch flavor. Also did a side order of the loaded tots (2/10) the tots were cooked nice and crispy, but the loaded toppings had absolutely no flavor. There was chilli and cheese and after even giving the chilli a taste by itself, there was truly no seasoning in it at all. I wouldn't order this again. Also got dessert: the Cracker Jack Cheesecake (10/10) cheesecake is my favorite dessert, and I love the toppings of caramel and toffee; pretty sure it was supposed to have a chocolate drizzle on it, but the caramel was really good so no complaints. I totally see myself going back again, their hotdogs on the menu looked really really good and I would like to try some more of their unique wing flavors. My overall rate of experience : 7.7/10

The last time I set foot inside their Pleasure House Rd location was at least 10 years ago. I celebrated my birthday there as my friends were kind enough to take me out. It was a Sunday morning and I sought out a place that offered brunch. I noticed 1608 was open and decided to head over, especially since I haven't visited them in ages. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I was greeted immediately by a kind hostess and she proceeded to sit me at a nearby table and provided me with menus (one food, one alcohol). I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV
