My favorite Surf Rider. Lots of gatherings here with Family and Friends. Food and service was good as usual. My one problem was with the salad I got as one of my sides. The salad has always been served in a large bowl. This time the bowl was the size of a cereal bowl. I used a saucer left on our table from our appetizer to put part of the salad on so I had room to add the salad dressing. Other than that, the food was great. I got the Fried Shrimp Dinner. Perfectly prepared and served with a choice of 2 sides. Our Waitress was nice. Best thing about this location is seeing the sun set over the Marina. read more

I've been eating at Surf rider marina shores for 10 years until last year they jumped the prices from $18.99 to $23.99 for a crabcake sandwich. So I looked at their website for the Norfolk restaurant and it said the crabcake sandwich was 2399. The fish and chips was 1699 so I told my brother I said let's go try that restaurant. We got there and looked at the menu. They jumped the crabcake sandwich to $28.99 fish and chips $18.99 and a crabcake dinner for $48 so I got the fish and chips and the fish was terrible. I would grade it a little bit better than frozen fish sticks out of the box.I think their website is bait and switch so the website tells you their prices are a lot cheaper there really a lot more expensive. I know inflation has gone up but a crabcake sandwich going up $10 in less than three years. I will probably never eat at one of there restaurants again over priced not worth it. Call restaurant for prices before you go because the website prices shows a lot cheaper than the actual prices! The waitress was great! read more

Best fish n chips around since Lynnhaven Fish House closed down years ago. Fried oysters are perfection as well and the sweet tea is top notch. Service is mostly good and the adult drinks are decent but the location and the food are worth any small drawbacks. read more

I've been eating Surf Rider for many many years, mostly at the old Newtown Rd location. We visited the EOV location for some crab dip, entrees and and drinks. We were seated at a table outside. Decent view. But we sat and then we sat some more. Nobody ever came to our table. The waitress was very busy complaining about the kitchen staff to a few of the other tables around us. She never even acknowledged us. It was so rude and inhospitable. We left and went to the Pier, still shaking our heads at how awful Surf Rider is now. read more

I love the surf rider restaurants! They always have fresh seafood and great portions. The view on the water is perfect - I recommend sitting outside if the weather allows! The only downside is that we had pretty bad service. The restaurant wasn't that busy but our waitress was slow (took about 20 mins for her to even take our order). I will return for the food alone, but hopefully we get better service at this location in the future. read more

You can tell that this restaurant holds a specific regular crowd and has been around awhile. The scenery around this location is spectacular with a view of the bay and the boats! We walked in on a Sunday for a late lunch and wanted to sit outside (on a clear 73 degree afternoon) and was told they weren't doing outside seating at that time....even though when we left, there was a table seated outside. Ugh. Our server was sweet and she was quick but she was 1 of three servers that tended to our table during the 2 hour visit. Not sure if they were short staffed or what. No harm, no foul. The food came out in a good amount of time. The ambiance and food is honestly kind of like Red Robin. You know you'll probably be able to order something dependable, but it's nothing spectacular. The restaurant itself is incredibly dated and looks like Ponderosa did in the 90s. They would benefit from some upgrades! Used to be a must visit.... Has gone downhill in quality and the menu is almost all fried food now. We ordered one of the few non-fried items, the tuna steak dinner (which wasn't listed on the regular menu), and it was somehow undercooked (ordered medium) and overly dry at the same time.... And weirdly wet on top where it was supposed to be blackened. It was served as Two thin pieces instead of a decent thick piece you can cook properly. Service was great thought. I love the food here, the menu choices and the full bar. However I don't always feel completely welcome by the staff. Therefore I went here with the intention of placing a to go order, having a drink at the bar while I waited. When I entered I almost bumped into someone coming from the back. I stopped myself and immediately said "oh hello, how are you?" The person just kept walking. I went to the hostess mentioned wanting to place a to go order, she let me know that the bar could take care of me. I walked over to the bar and sat, while the bartender wizzed back and forth helping someone else. She eventually said she would be with me soon. Fun fact, the bartender was the woman I bumped into on my way in. I was kinda shocked at the lack of friendliness toward me. Maybe a bad day, I assumed. However she was very pleasant and polite with the other customers at the bar. I ordered a mojito while waiting for my crabcake ceaser salad. Both were great and is the sole reason why I do come here. My husband was excited to take me somewhere new after a morning of studying. We stopped by around noon, and it wasn't very busy. It was beautiful driving toward the restaurant. You can see the marina as you're driving up, and while you're seated. I ordered the cheeseburger and my husband ordered the chicken tenders. He had to leave after ordering to pick up our child from preschool. When he came back he was able to eat, and we both agreed that the food was great. We just weren't sure about the service. In the twenty minutes that my husband was out getting our son, the waitress only checked on us once. When we were just about done eating, the waitress asked if it we wanted desert, and with the time crunch we just weren't able to. We politely declined, and her attitude seemed to change after that. We paid for our bill and left. It wasn't until we were both in the car that we agreed the service wasn't the best. We might not be back after that. This is one of my favorite seafood spots! I was kind of upset that the greenbrier location had shut down, but atleast this location is still open. The view is so pretty! Right from the inside you can see the water and the beautiful skies. I had got a table right next to the window so that I could enjoy the view up close and witness with sunset. It was heartbreaking when the Surf Rider at Taylor's Landing closed due to sinking ground. They promised to open another in the area. Finally that day has come. Surf Rider, East Beach is on the opposite side of Little Creek Inlet from the Taylor's Landing location. But the great news is that it's also in a marina location. So you have a view of the inlet, the Navy ships docked across the inlet at JEB Little Creek/Fort Story, and the boats docked at the marina where the restaurant is located. Navigation to the restaurant can be a little tricky the first time. From Shore Drive traveling west: Turn right onto Pretty Lake Road, the eastern boundary of the East Beach neighborhood. Enjoy the pretty new construction and picture yourself living so near the water. But remain vigilant. Pretty Lake, as it nears the marina & condo's, will split into Marina Dr. Watch for a right turn just past the marina building. Turn there & immediately turn right again. Voila!! You just turned into the parking lot for Surf Rider. It's really easy to miss. There is ample parking in the restaurant dedicated lot. It's different but the same. There is still outdoor & indoor seating. But it's missing the large outside deck with tables & a bar and the boat parking of Taylor's Landing. Check the marker board as you enter. The specials and sides are listed. My guess is that there is less seating than Taylor's Landing so sometimes there's a wait. But there was at the larger restaurant also. Great seafood is worth waiting for. Oh.....And they're closed on Mondays. Why? Especially during tourist season.... The menu includes the same wonderful choices as the other Surf Riders. They do have the best Crab Cakes in Coastal Virginia!! And for seafood purists their Fried Shrimp is the best. (Just Fried Shrimp & Cocktail Sauce is the way it should be). You can even order an entree with one Crab Cake & Fried Shrimp. If you're lucky you might be there on Potato Cake day. Yum!!! You'll love the Hush Puppies. And don't pass up the Crab Dip Appetizer. Their cocktails are good. But don't expect sommelier wine choices. This is a Seafood Restaurant. Placed in person pick up order because told we could not place it over the phone. Ordered grilled shrimp tacos but got Cajun shrimp tacos. No salsa or guacamole with order as promised. Shrimp badly over cooked. Ordered oysters with order upon arriving, paid, then when I returned was told they could not do oysters to go and had to order something else and wait. Would've been helpful to know that up front. Rest of order was ready so it sat and got cold while they made the side of shrimp I ordered since I couldn't get oysters. Also rubbery and overcooked. Arrived shortly after 5, seated right away. We had the crab dip and a couple drinks, crab dip is on point. Server was excellent!!! We ordered a crab cake, fried oysters, and broiled scallops. No complaints, very good dinner. Our granddaughter had chicken tenders and fries, generous portion for kids menu. Salads were good, baked potatoes a little dry, had to use extra butter. We had a wonderful experience at this location. We arrived wanting to sit out near the marina but because of heavy winds that was not an option. However, the hostess did seat us in the pool area outside. It was a very comfortable spot. Our server Kelsey was awesome and has great service skills.
