This was my fourth time eating at boiling point, but this time my fiancé and I ordered to-go. As soon as we picked it up we got home and went straight down to business while the soups were still at a warm enough temperature without having to re heat it. We ordered the Taiwanese spicy and the house special, as usual. The house special today tasted horrid, I order it without pork intestine because the smell is so strong my fiancé can't have it. Although we ordered it without the intestines, our server still added it which makes the soup base simply taste like pork intestine juice!!! That was the whole flavor, even in the tofu when bit into, it reaked of intestines. All in all, my dinner was ruined and the both of us have been running to the toilet 4x going on 5 today.Thanks so much for your cooperation boiling point staff! This place has always been the Go-to place for us in the past. But after last night's experience, we'll be going some where else. Apparently, they do not care about customer service They refused to replace one of our hot pot when we told them that the broth smell and tasted weird. I mean really WEIRD. WARNING: Long and detailed rant ahead. Horrible customer relation and retention service. My friend and I are regulars at Boiling Point. We live in San Diego and make the 1+ hour drive just to eat here when we can because we love their beef pots. Aside from the cashier and the patient hostess who kept an open table for us because our friend was running late (and eventually cancelled), service tonight was less than mediocre. The two of us were seated promptly after being informed that our friend wouldn't be able to make it. The server came by and took our order: Two spicy beef pots. One regular pot and one pot with ONLY beef, broth, and noodles. She leaves and comes back to confirm our order and tells my friend that it would be cheaper to just buy extra beef and noodles on the side and she'd be able to give us a side of regular broth. And that if he wanted to make it spicy, he could add chili oil to the broth. While he was willing to pay for the regular beef pot, who wouldn't want to pay less amiright?! So we go with her recommendation however when the food comes out, we only have one regular pot of soup and a side of extra meat. Upon inquiring about the broth for my friend, the manager, Jason, comes out and explains to us that it was a miscommunication between him and our server, and that the side of broth we were previously offered was not an option -- further suggesting that my friend would have to share my pot with me. We were trying to explain to him what our server told us but gave up because it didn't feel like he was quite understanding it and we didn't really want to make a scene. The problem here is that not once did he offer to make it up to us due to the miscommunication. Anything as simple as "Would you still like us to make you another beef pot as soon as we can?" or "Is there anything else I can do for you guys?" would have sufficed. Instead, he walked away after trying to explain himself, and my friend was left with only his side of extra meat, uncooked noodles, and nothing else to eat. We would have been happy to pay for an additional beef pot however the lack of responsiveness from Jason ruined the meal. By this point, we're both pretty peeved and I practically lost my appetite seeing as I was the only one eating. My friend also ordered extra noodles as originally recommended by our server but was unable to eat it without broth and we were still charged for it. However the cashier was able to accommodate us and took it off the bill. In addition, it felt like our server never really came by to check on us -- almost as if she was avoiding us after the whole fiasco. Tip: If you accidentally misinform your customers, simply apologize and ask if there's anything else you can do to help them enjoy their visit. They won't bite your head off (not us at least). I am a server myself and would never treat my patrons the way we were treated today. Mistakes happen and I get it. But it seemed like there was zero effort put in to make up for it. To sum it up, the service tonight was the worst we've experienced at Boiling Point. The disregard for customer satisfaction as well as the lack of communication between management and staff made our visit tonight extremely disappointing. The food here is delicious! So far I've tried the seafood combo, the lamb combo, the house special, and the spicy Taiwanese combo, and I honestly cannot decide which one is my favorite. They're all good! The boba drinks are actually pretty good, too. The only downside to this place is that it gets really busy, so it takes forever to get seated. It takes even longer to get our orders in and to get the food. If you're lucky you'll get everything you ordered on their first try, because they tend to forget things .... it's already happened to me on more than one occassion. I don't blame them,, though. This place is pretty crowded, and although it looks like they have dozens of workers, each one is really busy running back and forth. Tips: - These spicy levels are Asian, so when you order "medium spicy" expect "very spicy." I'd recommend the "mild spicy" for those who love spicy food but don't want the spiciness to be all they can taste. - Order a lower spice level because the spice sauces at the table are what they use in the kitchen. If it's not spicy enough for you, then add more yourself. - The soup is the same in each hot pot, so they come around and pour you more if you're running out. - There's a fire beneath your food that keeps it hot. It was too hot for me to eat quickly, so I asked them to turn it off about 10-15 minutes into the dinner. It was still hot, but not scalding. - The ice water contained no ice and was just slightly cooler than room temperature. - NO REFILLS on sodas. It costs about $2 and it comes in a can. - It's a dollar less during lunch (until 3pm) than it is during dinner. Numbers 8, 9, and 10 on the menu are $4 more than numbers 1-7. They honestly don't look "bigger" as advertised on the menu. - Flaming spicy doesn't even compare to the "spicy challenges" they have at places like Buffalo Wild Wings or whatever. Flaming spicy means you have no spice receptors on your taste buds and/or you don't like to taste your food. It's not an, "Aww yeah, that's some good spicy shiz." It's more of an, "Holy mother of pearl, this was a mistake." Food: -It was everyone's first time but my aunt. She told us that all of us got jipped, portion wise, because the other times she came here, she had a lot of stuff in the soup. We didn't have very much this time. - Japanese: Should really be called "Cabbage Hot Pot." - Taiwanese: Only comes in FLAMING spicy. My dad loves spicy food with a passion and I have never seen him affected by anything spicy. He rolls his eyes at Sriracha (rooster) sauce. This was a bit too spicy for him. Just saying. - Beef: Yum! - House special: My mom had barely anything in her hot pot. She probably had 1/4 of what we had in ours. I wanted to complain, but whatever. Service: Waited 2 hours for a table for 10 (long time wait for a large party is usually understandable). They were calling people to go in that were 20 numbers after mine. I finally complained and the same girl who wrote my name down told me they don't even have a table big enough for 10 and I had to wait another 40 minutes (for a table that fits 10 to magically appear, I guess.) She should have told me that in the first place so I could split up my party into multiple groups. An employee (who happened to be my server later) ended up having to take over her job and figure things out. He told me she was a "really nervous person" and doesn't really "know what she's doing." My server was really great though and was always checking up on us. Atmosphere/Interior: - Floor is dirty, everywhere else is nice. - They kept playing EDM music (dubstep, house, trance. etc.) and EDM remixes of non-EDM songs. Me likey. - If it's freezing cold outside and you want to wait inside, good luck. You have as much room as you would in a bathroom stall. - Tables/booths were pretty clean Overall, I probably wouldn't choose to come back unless my friends or family really, really wanted to go. It's been about two years since the last time I've had Boiling Point. Why you ask? I don't recall it being especially good, and since no one else seems to enjoy it either, I've never had a reason to go back. WELL, I have getting dinner with a friend and she happens to like this place, so I decided to give it another shot since it HAS been quite some time since my last encounter with Boiling Point. We went on a Monday night, around 7ish. It wasn't too crowded, but we did have to wait a little bit. It got pretty crowded while we were waiting though, so just goes to show you that this place probably is always busy. This place is pretty spacious, with a lot of room. I don't know how the booths are, but the chairs are not very comfortable - they're made out of metal, so they're really heavy and hard. Meh. I ended up trying their Curry Fish Ball Hot Pot with rice and mild spice level. Since I hear Boiling Point has good drinks, especially their Hokkaido milk tea, I decided to get one of those, too. Food took forever to get to our table, so their service is pretty slow here. I appreciate that our waiter did apologize for the long wait and after that they were pretty attentive in refilling our waters and checking up on us occasionally. I actually liked my hot pot - it was pretty tasty! Everyone always tells me how they don't like Boiling Point because it's very bland. I guess I can kind of agree - the broth definitely smelled like curry, but it wasn't SUPER flavorful. It came with a lot of stuff like fish balls, meat, corn, enoki mushrooms, and cabbage. I liked their sauces provided on the tables. I mixed all of them together, but they basically have a hot red garlic-y one, a garlic-y soy based one, and chili oil. I underestimated the chili oil though - I put two spoon fulls of it in my sauce pan and it was a lot spicier than I thought (not unbearable though). As for the milk tea, it was my first time trying Hokkaido milk tea, so I didn't know what to expect. I definitely has a unique flavor, but I really like it! I do recommend drinking this as a 'dessert drink' because it's rather sweet, or I'm sure you can ask for half sugar. Pricing is whatever here - with my milk tea + hot pot + tax/tip, I paid about $20. I was craving some savory soup, so I thought I'd try this place out even with its 3-star ratings. My boyfriend and I came here at around 7:30pm and waited about 10 minutes before getting seated. We were seated in the back room, which I didn't mind since it seemed like a more intimate and quiet setting. We weren't that hungry so we shared the seafood hot pot and added rice, udon, extra bok choy, and fermented tofu on the side. We also ordered mango green tea with boba and almond milk tea. The soup was very flavorful and definitely satisfied my craving for something savory! Mmm.. Seafood :) The fermented tofu was either hit or miss depending on personal preference. I personally loved the stinky tofu which I coated with their yummy sauce! My boyfriend, however, couldn't stand the smell, but he was still able to enjoy it. The drinks were good, just like any other boba place. Now onto the service.. I was skeptical about the reviews that said this place had horrible service. I mean.. I kinda expected poor service since it is typical for Asian restaurants like this. So I went in thinking the service was probably going to be average. But Niki beyond exceeded my expectations! She constantly checked up on us (but not in an annoying way) to see if we needed more broth, to re-light our fire, and just to make sure we were okay. Even though the food here is pretty good, they really need to work on training their staff. I came here last night at around 6pm with the bf for our monthservary and got a number as expected. We should've gotten seated pretty quickly but the waitress in the front kept calling out number 256 (mine and my bf's number was 257). After 5 min of her calling 256, I asked my bf if maybe she meant 257. Since there were still some people in front of us, we decided to wait a little longer for this supposed "256" group to show up. Finally, after another 5 min of her calling 256 out, we finally asked her if she meant 257. The waitress gave us a weird look and she shook her head and was like "No, I meant 256." A few minutes went by and still no 256 group, and my bf showed her the number that we had, which she wrote for us, and she was like "oh yeah, I meant 257!" Uhh okays... After getting seated, we ordered pretty quickly since we've both been here before. I ordered the beef hot soup, medium spicy plus hokkaido milk tea and the bf ordered the lamb hot soup, very spicy plus passion fruit green tea. A few minutes after we ordered, our waiter came back and told us they ran out of hokkaido milk tea. Even though they should've told us in the beginning, we had a staff in training so I let it slide. However, I told our waiter that I was fine with not getting anything to drink but water. A few minutes after I told him, the owner or some other waiter came up to me and was like "Oh sorry, we don't have hokkaido milk tea anymore. Would you like something else?" "Uh no thanks, I already told the other waiter." This happened A LOT during our dinner... in total, we had 3 different waiters come up to us and asked us the same freaking questions over and over again. And then, when we want something, it takes forever to flag a waiter down. I mean, that's cool that they're constantly checking up on us but they really need to work on their communication skills and be more aware of their surroundings! Anyway, the food here was pretty filling. The bf doesn't think the very spicy is spicy enough so get the flaming spicy if you want super spicy shit. I like soup, I like it hot, I like it spicy and tasty, with all the stuff that goes in it veggies and meat and etc... Sooo....I thought I was going to absolutely love this restaurant. Unfortunately it did not meet my standards. One thing that's very important when it comes to enjoying a meal at a restaurant is how the food/restaurant smells overall ( to me ). I stepped into this restaurant and it kind of wreaked... like something was rotting or someone left the frozen fish out for too long. This place has got to be the best hot pot I've ever had. Their wait is always long but well worth it. My advice in which me and my girlfriend always do is to literally plan a day where you can be there at 11am or a bit earlier right when they open so you can get in real quick and plus you get a free black tea or green tea! I have tried all of them before and the only one I don't like is the number one. I'm not a big fan of stinky tofu which ruined my entire meal but that was my fault for not reading. There are a lot of staffs in the restaurant and pretty attentive to what customers need. I went to the Boiling Point at Saturday 1:00 pm and there was a long line. I've been here a handful of times and have always enjoyed the food... the service, not so much. My faves are the Thai Hot Pot and the Beef Hot Pot. The Taiwanese Hot Pot tasted a little too "intestine-y" for my palate. The soups are flavorful and the portions are hefty. I can never ever finish a whole hot pot to myself. Oh and if you come here save some room for desert. My favorite is the Taro Snowflake Ice. It is red bean paste, taro, peanuts and rice balls. It is served cold and tastes like ice cream!! Tastes better than it sounds! Trust me. And now about the service.... This place has become one Of my favorite restaurants! I am literally obsessed! When I First came to this restaurant, I honestly didn't think it would be that great. But it was my surprise that it was very delicious and the customer service is great :) I always get the seafood soup. And it never disappoints. I wanted to single out the server, Priscilla. She's a great server, checks up on my table multiple times, always recommends dessert which is great. She makes the customers feel special and welcome. The sauces are amazing too. I really enjoy BP but strangely I can't have it often. It gets to be too much after a while. The last time I came here I was having dinner with a friend. We both ordered the Japanese miso and it was really good! The broth has a full, delicious taste to it. It also has a lot of meat, which is a huge plus. Before coming here, I kept raving about the Hokkaido milk tea. It's kind of embarrassing to admit but I sometimes come to BP just so I can order a Hokkaido milk tea and leave. So my friend was super keen on trying the Hokkaido milk tea. To our huge disappointment. the Hokkaido milk tea has been out for a few weeks now! [It still is, I checked yesterday.] Such a sad, sad day. Instead he ordered a green milk tea and I chose the rose milk tea. The rose milk tea is actually really good. Nothing beats the Hokkaido though. I knew dinner was more expensive than lunch but didn't realize how much more expensive it was. Our bill came out to around $40. Came in on a good Sunday night, the wait wasn't that long. While we were seated, our waitress Lina came to our table and immediately proceeded to say with the order sheet in hand, "ladies first" right at my friend who was about to order. She also thought it was hilarious to say "just kidding." I really don't know if that is what you can call customer service, and it wasn't anything close to a "joke." At the end our meal, Lina also asked very loudly next to my ear "are you done with everything?" And tried to grab my unfinished broth. At this point I'm kind of fed up, and just let her take whatever she wanted off my table and right after she took my mini stove away, she goes to the other end of my table to ask my friend who was still eating out of his bowl if he was done and could take his bowl away... Please retrain her in customer service because this was honestly a very bad experience based off service alone. The food was good, however. I actually love the food boiling point has to offer at any location. It's true, I'm disappointed. I have never tried their Thai fusion pot decided since there is promo I'll give it chance. The pot itself is big but quantity of food is very little. I was left hungry. I feel like house special actually has more food than Thai fusion. Would I pay full price for it? No. On top of that when I was about to pay (I was not told) I was not allow to use my app earned points $10 rewards because it's promo item. I came here at around noon on Christmas Eve 2011 and was surprised by how full the restaurant was. Right when my party arrived, we were seated 2 tables away from the door. Even though it only took us about 10 steps to get to our seats, we were greeted by about 5 different waiters/waitresses saying "Guang ling, guang ling!" It made me feel like I was in Taiwan! I've been to several Hot Pot establishments in Taipei, all of them were all-you-can-eat and quite incredible. That being said, I'm not comparing this place to any of the places in Taipei, but judging it in its own right-as a Taiwanese hot pot restaurant in Irvine. Food: The lunch menu was $9.99 an came with hot pot, rice or noodles and drink. I ordered a cold green tea and it couldn't have been better. It was light yet sweet, and complemented the soup well. The flavor was great- I got medium spicy and it was salty at first but tasted really good with the noodles. I got the House Special and loved the pork blood and intestines- reminds me of Taiwan! The only complaint I have about the food is the portion. I wish it came with more noodles because I love eating meat with noodle. Service: I thought the service was great. Besides getting greeted 5 times by 5 different waiters & waitresses, we were asked about 3 times in 2 minutes if our order was taken, and our water got refilled without being asked. It didn't seem like a tactic to rush us either, as we had to ask for our bill (after eating and talking for at least 20 minutes). All in all, I would come back here again for lunch. meh. i definitely like shabu better. we started off with the stinky tofu, which i usually love. first of all, the tofu wasn't fried...total failed. the flavor wasn't weak and the texture was too tough and crumbly. this was probably the worst stinky tofu i've ever had. i got the lamb and it was SUPER gamey (after the hostess said it wasn't gamey). it sort of made me feel sick. i also didn't like that all my food was overly stuffed in my bowl for me. pretty much everything was already cooked by the time it got to our table, so i didn't really see why they needed to light a fire. there wasn't enough soup because there was too much food piled inside. i had to fish out the insane amount of vegetables just to see what else was in my pot. i ended up not eating half of it, because i was kind of over it. i found out from a friend after dinner, that apparently they have good shaved ice and drinks. i would only come back to try those.....but no more hot pot (at least here) ever again. i woke up this morning with an upset stomach, which is how i felt last night after we left boiling point.. read more

My favorite is the beef hot pot. Very good dipping sauces as well. Expect a wait every time you go as there is always people waiting. If I go, I try to go before it opens (there is already people waiting outside before it opens) or around 3ish (too late for lunch/too early for dinner). There will be a wait but not as long. If you go before 3pm, you get a free black or green tea. If you don't want to wait you can order to go and eat it with your hot pot at home (which is what I do now). Still as good as eating at the restaurant. If your not sitting in the booth, be prepared to sit really close to the tables next to you. Definitely one of my favorite hot pot places. read more

I've been to this restaurant twice now. The first experience was average. The service was nothing to note. The food however left me wanting more, and by more I mean I left hungry. There was just not enough solid food in the hot pot to fill me up. I had the Thai flavored soup and that was pretty good. I guess I should have ordered rice instead of noodles with it. The second time left me hungry and angry. I came with 3 other friends and they all received their pots. After waiting about 15 minuted mine came out, except it wasn't the pot I ordered. To top that off, there was a raw egg in the pot but the server did not light the fire. When I finally flagged a server down, I asked they bring me the right pot. As I was waiting, I did notice a table nearby receiving their pots, the pots being taken away, and then replaced with new pots. I wonder if they had their order mixed up as well. My friends by now have almost finished so I cancelled my order. The server obliges but comes back out stating it will be out in 20 seconds and asks if I want to still cancel. Yes, my friends are almost done. Not one to be left hungry I phoned an order across the street to Curry House and picked up my order as soon as we left. I do not believe I will be back, nor do I believe this review will make an impact. The fact is, there is a cult following. It will die down and onto the next food phase. read more

This review is mainly for the customer service. For food, I would give it a 3 star rating. You can definitely find better food in the area for cheaper but if you want hot pot then this place will do. My coworkers and I have been here several times. Usually for birthdays but today we went to celebrate 12-12-12. We arrived around 12 and didn't have to wait to long to be seated (maybe 10 minutes at the most). When they started taking us to our seat the host walked towards the back of the building. At first I thought they were putting us in the bathroom or something but it turns out there is another smaller room in the back. As soon as we entered it was like walking into an ice box! I noticed that everyone else sitting at their tables were still wearing their scarves and jackets from the cold outside. Now to our waitress. She was really curt with us almost to the point that I would call her rude. We asked her if there was anything she could do about the AC (which we were sitting right under). She said that she couldn't do that and walked away. The fact that it was cold sucked, but I understand there was nothing she could do about it. I just feel should could have handled it better. Good customer service is about being NICE to your customers, not treating them like they are an inconvenience. And that goes for the entire time we were there. She barely returned to our table. We asked for water and did not get it until after we were already well into our meal. Our tea took 20 minutes to be brought out and whenever she did come by, she was walking away before we had even finished talking to her. I would also like to note that, yes, the place was packed, but I saw a lot of servers and there is no excuse for poor customer service (this is coming from someone who worker in customer service for 5 years). After finishing our meal, we waited, and waited, and waited for ANYONE to come into the back room. Finally we got up to go hunt down our check. Very very very long line for weekday dinners, and weekends! Last time I waited for an hour and 40 minutes.... Good thing they have a shopping plaza next to it. Wait is bad because service is slow. They have pretty quick turn over, But they are always understaff. No one to clean up tables, take orders, or pour water. You really have to try and flag down a server. Their pricing is very fair. You have about 10 different types of "bowl" you can choose from. Each will come with some meat, diff types of veggies, and toppings. It's always hot because of the fire underneath, but you may ask for it to be turned off. Their sauce is very good! If you do not know how spicy you like your soup, you can get mild and add more chili oil in it later; staff has told me its the same thing they use to make the soup spicy. do not come here if you do not enjoy the smell of stinky tofu; it's smelly. I've been here multiple times, but there was this one specific time, my server Hannah gave us the best service. She was super sweet, very attentive, always made sure everything was okay. She always had a smile on her face and overall, it was the best service. Decent hot pot compared to other places I've tried. TERRIBLE service. In fact, the service is so ridiculously poor that I'm surprised people still come here. I know that can be standard fare for some asian restaurants, but man. These people will literally seat you, and then ignore you for 20 minutes. Then they will bring out your dish in piece meal. Meaning, they'll give you your soup, bring you your rice 5 minutes later and maaaaybe bring you something to drink if you nag them enough. Seriously guys, train your staff! read more

Well, the food is good when comparing to similar style of restaurants. However, they have "horrible" and"bad" services. My friends and I ordered total of 3 pots at lunch time and it came with free drinks. Not to mention when they bring the tea over, there is no lid or didn't seal the top, I guess they can save a buck or two a day by not sealing or covering it up. Both of my friends' pot served pretty quick, however, I've been waiting for my pot for 30 minutes. Yes, 30 minutes. I asked the waitress and waiter two times and one is clueless and the other seems very shock that I didn't get my pot yet. Their waitress/waiter seems clueless of what to do and they are not well trained either. The funny thing is, they did bring over three drinks and we sat right across by the cashier/kitchen, so it is very obvious there are three drink cups but only two pots. Anyway, the whole dining experience was bad, there is pretty much no service. If you are looking for a restaurant with service, you are in the wrong place. read more

The baby was sleeping on the stroller but they said i can not parking my stroller on the side of our table, so i had to put my kids on my lap while i was eating. Which made it really uncomfortable for my family to eat. I think its hard to enjoy the food comfortably in here when you have baby in the party. Horrible service from Daphne. I think they dont deserve any stars. But 1 star for having an awesome macaron ice cream. We ordered two macaron ice cream togo. She didnt comfirm with us in the first place and told us to wait. although the ice cream was just in front of us, we waited for 10 minutes. She came with two green tea drinks! We told her it was the ice cream. Then she looked very frustrated and demanded us to give our change back ( in this case, we are supposed to have change back since the green tea drinks cost more than the ice cream) I think she wanted to share her frustration with us. Came here around 5:30pm on a Saturday with a party of four. We saw some people waiting outside, we thought there would be a long wait. We were seated very promptly - within 3 minutes. It was everyone's first time. All of us thoroughly enjoyed it. We ordered the fermented spicy tofu, #1, #5, and #2. The medium spicy for #5 was perfect. #1 was mild - we'll order medium in the future. #2 was medium which we like. Overall, the wait, food, and service was good. We would come back. read more
