Chubby Cattle in Irvine is a fun, lively Korean BBQ spot that my wife and I took our two boys (ages 3 and 8 months) to this week. The ambiance is really energetic -- walking in feels like stepping into the streets of a busy Korean market. It's colorful, bustling, and full of life. It's a very cool vibe, though probably not the best choice for a quiet date night. Service was solid and attentive throughout. I especially liked the ordering screens at the table and how they moved beverages, rice, and other common items to a convenient self-serve section. That helped things move smoothly. We didn't have any special drinks this time, but the soft drinks were good. The food was excellent overall. The meats were the highlight -- we did the Diamond menu and really enjoyed the A5 and thin-cut wagyu. They cooked up beautifully. We also tried the sushi, which was good but not quite at the level of a dedicated sushi restaurant. The selection was excellent across the board. At about $100 per person it's not cheap, but we appreciated that young kids eat free based on height, so our three-year-old didn't cost anything extra. That said, it isn't the most kid-friendly setup. You have to leave your stroller outside, the quarters are pretty tight, and toddlers don't always do great with cook-at-the-table concepts. Still, the quality of the meats made for a good family meal overall. I'd recommend Chubby Cattle if you're looking for solid KBBQ in Irvine, especially if you don't have young kids with you. The one and only Johnny was a great server he made sure our meat was grilled to perfection! The meat was great quality not too fatty. The vines are so fun!!! And everything was fresh and clean definitely the place to go for meat and have a good time. Come hungry!

I've tried a few Chubby Cattle locations so far and this one is definitely at the top of the list in terms of quality of food and service. We started off with server, Kenny, who did an awesome job giving us a refresher on the menu. He was very helpful and knowledgable about the memberships and promos. He was relieved by Alex, who was also fantastic! He explained some of the dishes, what made the location special and pretty much cooked all of our food, which we thought was super efficient. They were both great conversationalists which added to the experience. Their A5 Wagyu was melt in your mouth deliciousness. I wished we had more. The scallops with the citrus marinade was insanely tasty and a must try! Only downside- their buffet area was a bit cramped, so getting items from that area was challenging. definitely rubbed some elbows with people in line for sauces and vegetables lol Will definitely be back! if you're thinking about visiting this location, I'd recommend going around 4pm-5pm. There wasn't much of a wait.

2 stars because of the service. We started with Kenny, who was great, but his shift ended and we were switched to Alex (who looks like Keshi). After that, it felt like we were completely forgotten. He was constantly helping the tables around us, cooking their meat and checking on them, while we had to repeatedly flag down other employees to clear plates or change our grill. At one point, I just placed our own plates on the bussing cart since it was right next to us. Even the table next to us joked that we had been forgotten. The only time Alex came over on his own was to ask about our membership and when it was time to pay. Maybe it was because we were on the Silver tier, but that's still around $60 per person, so I'd expect the same level of service regardless. The food itself was great, which made the service even more disappointing. We came around 5 PM and there were plenty of tables, but by the time we left the restaurant was packed. I like that you get 1 hour and 10 minutes, can order everything from a tablet, and there's a self serve buffet with rice, curry, vegetables, slushies, and ice cream. The meat quality was excellent, and I'd come back for the food. I just hope the service is more consistent next time.

The ultimate buffet experience! I've only been to the Irvine location and look forward to trying the Rowland one since I hear it's much bigger! The service here is great nonetheless - the waiters are super friendly and attentive. Everything here is a must-try... like you have to try one of everything: the beef, the sushi, the soups, the desserts. I still have yet to try the whole menu since there are so many options! I love getting the beef brisket and sushi hand rolls. Even the drink and dessert choices are great!! Buffets that can do a good milk tea are pretty rare in the US, so thank you Chubby Cattle for feeding my milk tea craving.

Visited this chubby location and tried out the Gold Menu. They have plenty of options for meat but we mostly stuck to the items on the A4 menu. The quality of the meat is great as always. In terms of the sushi, the premium otoro nigiri was delicous. The other nigiri options were okay and we probably would not order those again. Something that was underrated was the Sukiyaki broth, which I don't see many people get. In terms of the service, it was fantastic as our plates were being bussed constantly. What really stood out was the friendliness and attentiveness of our server Josh H who helped out with our meat selection. In terms of the space, the decor makes you feel like you're in Japan. I do wish there were more space between tables and more space at the self service bar because the restaurant does feel extremely compact at times. I would come again for special occasions but don't find myself coming here as a regular.

Came here for dinner with my partner and had a great time. This is the third Chubby Cattle BBQ location we've visited, and this one is currently our second favorite. Nothing has topped the Rowland Heights location yet, that one is still our favorite!!! However this restaurant was also very nice but also small. One thing I noticed was that this location seemed to have more variety on the menu compared to the Rowland Heights and Crosby locations I've been to. I especially enjoyed the steamed egg. This time, my partner and I decided to try the Silver Pass instead of the Gold Pass. *** The only negative part of our experience was that there seemed to be a strong push from staff to choose a different tier. While waiting to be seated and discussing our order, we were repeatedly encouraged to upgrade. It felt a little odd because we specifically wanted the Silver Pass, and I noticed other guests asking for it as well. I stuck with my choice, and honestly, I'm glad I did. Because I have a membership, we received about $10 off per person, saving around $18-20 total. In my opinion, the Silver Pass was absolutely worth it and didn't feel like a rip-off at all. My one complaint about the restaurant itself is the self-serve area in the back where you get drinks, ice cream, soup, rice, curry, vegetables, corn cheese, egg tarts, and other sides. During dinner service, it gets extremely crowded and feels very cramped and claustrophobic. I think the layout could be improved because there simply isn't enough space for the number of people trying to access it at once. Other than that, the food was delicious, everything tasted great, and our server was very friendly. Overall, it was a nice experience and another great Chubby Cattle location to try. I would definitely come back again, but Rowland Heights still remains my favorite. That location is top-tier.

Amazing service from Alex at this amazing Chubby Cattle in Diamond Jamboree. This is by far our favorite of the Chibby Group. The meats are amazing and the drinks are really good too. This plaza has so many good restaurants but this place stands out. We are so happy to support you guys we got an NFT and joined the membership! Thank you for feeding us! Happy Yelping! We will be back!

What's the wait time right now?

Depending on the time and day you go. They said the wait can be up to 2 hours

How can I join the wait list?

How to join the wait list

How do I get a table at opening hour? Is there a waiting list?

    1. Show up early and wait in line. There's a chance you'll get one of the first seating but depends how many people ahead of you and how large your party. Go earlier on peak days/hours.… Read more

I don't understand the whole ordering process and couldn't find any explanations. Do you pick some items from the lists? Or are you served all of them? Could someone explain it to me, please? Also, do you have to cook everything yourself? Thank you.

you order through tablet and specialty meats depend on your tier. Speciality meats are cooked by servers but the ones that are AYCE is self cook.

Is this place Japanese or Korean BBQ?

    Japanese, its considered yakiniku.

Is there a different pricing for kids?

It goes by height, 100cm and under is free, 101cm-130cm is 50%, 131cm+ is full price.

Is there a way to join the waitlist online ahead of arrival?

Irvine location and Cerritos location don't take reservations. No yelp waitlist either. First comes first serves.

Important deciding factor for me, does this location put hot mustard on their sushi? I know Cerritos does 🤢 instead of typical spicy mayo that all there other locations do.

    no hot mustard on sushi

Hi Team, what is the maximum number of guests you can accommodate at your largest table?

In regular dining you can probably fit 8, the VIP room can fit up to 12 (tight squeeze). There are tables that fit 8, and can accommodate up to 14 (with the end having a gap but next to a booth seating 6).

Does this location have plans to open for weekday lunch soon? As someone who works in the area and goes out to lunch every day, I can say that this place will have a healthy customer base that will keep it busy during the lunch hours.

Most CC locations open for lunch shortly after completing their soft opening.

    Do they take reservations?

Walk in only. If you have a Chubby Club NFT or app status of Silver+ you can make priority waitlist requests (24+hours) on Discord once they become available (usually a few weeks after soft opening).

Then this server got impatient and told us "It's a YES or NO question... Is this your order or not? Do you not know?" Highly recommend this place to anyone that loves japanese curry. They have a great lunch special too! One thing i absolute love about this place is they do not nickel and dime you. Curry (Small - $14.50 / Large - $17.50) - I wanted to try their soft shell crab curry, which incurred a $1 upcharge, and was only available as a large option, so $18.50 for crab. This came with fried soft shell crab served in a gravy-like curry which was slightly sweet and savory. I asked for it mild and it didn't have any heat, perhaps next time I would go with medium. It was served with some bright red pickles and rice. I wasn't too impressed with the crab, the quantity was on the smaller side. Curry Lunch Special ($13.50) - This comes with a small curry and half of a side appetizer. On a subsequent visit I ordered this with chicken katsu and the gyoza appetizer. This came with 3 fried chicken gyozas that weren't bad, but I think I would have preferred if they were steamed. For my curry I went with the chicken katsu, which was slightly overcooked but still went well with the curry. Overall, the lunch specials are reasonably priced here and I would stick to getting that when I visit again. It's not a big restaurant inside, with about 8 tables and a good place to go to get one's Japanese curry fix.

The coating was tasty, the chicken was juicy, and the sauce with a little bit of lemon was exquisite. For the main dish, I went a little bold and tried their Chicken Katsu with Umeboshi Sauce and Shiso inside the katsu. May sound kind of odd, but the combination of flavors was both fresh and bold. Service at the restaurant was solid and I don't think there was a moment where my water wasn't full. The restaurant itself was quite big and I was surprised by how many tables/people could be seated. 100% would come back to try some of the other katsu options.

I loved the sides and miso soup with the meal. Rice was perfect. Katsu sauce and soy on table. We shared between my husband and 11 yo -an order of the chicken chili cheese katsu set and the pork (no fat) katsu set. I asked for extra salad sauce which was .50. The marinated egg side was delish. Ordered another pork katsu set for my older son to go. He enjoyed it. So so so good! What a gem!!!! Beautiful woodsy ambiance. Staff were Japanese. An authentic experience. Will definitely be back.

Lol Located in Tustin, in the Strata Tustin Center ~ near THH sandwiches & Leaf N Cream tea house, Curry Do is a cute, modern, family-friendly Japanese-style curry house. The staff is super sweet, friendly & efficient. The establishment is casual w/ chill vibes, perfect for a lunch date or dinner w/ fam. I personally LOVE the awesome lunch special (offered M-F 11:30 am- 3 pm) ~ for only $13.50, you get one small appetizer and one small curry rice (with your choice of protein). My go-to has been the fried gyoza (3 pc) app & pork belly curry. The pork belly has the perfect meat to fat ratio. It's sooo yums! The hubs opt'd for the healthier option and went w/ the chicken katsu. We both get the medium spice level and it's perfect. Just the lil kick a curry should have. IMO, their curry is the true definition of what I envision for a Japanese curry. It's not overly spiced (like Indian curry), it's not overly sweet (or salty), but it's surely savory & memorable. I always do the add-on of the potatoes & carrots and fried egg. One time I even got the cheese and it just worked. Very deelish! You get a generous portion. I always can never finish it in one sitting and the leftovers taste even better. DEFFFFF ask for addt'l red pickle radish cuz it's chef's kiss. I was also enticed to stop by cuz I heard Curry Do sold Dough & Arrow cookies (also another fav place of mine..to which I was super sad it's flagship store in Costa Mesa closed), but have been bummed that I keep missing them. Boo! Will have to catch it someday.. A total RxFoodie recommend and I will be back to try the other yummy menu items!

I'm glad we got to try something new for lunch. We placed the order online directly on their website. It was simple but a little wonky. I had to go in and out a couple times to compete the order. There was a promotion of 25% off orders of $35 or more. (I think, but I might be forgetting the exact amount). But that was pretty cool! As we arrived to pick up our order, I missed a call from the restaurant. We spoke to the employee when we got there. She explained that the website needed to be updated because it doesn't prompt you to select mild, medium, or spicy. She was very nice about this and said she was just about to package our food. It was ready but she needed to customize our spice level preference. I got the pork cutlet and medium curry. Medium was the perfect level for me. A couple of the curry bites seemed extra spicy, but overall it was just right and I'm glad I went with the medium versus mild. The lunch entrees included a side of pickled radish and red spice powder. Everyone enjoyed their selections and I'd be glad to return and try to dine in next time.
