I get the same thing every time I go to an Indian restaurant I had wanted all breast meat in mine and it came out accidentally with dark meat and they made sure they fixed it right away, which I thought was nice. We came for the lunch buffet on June 18th 2026 because we heard great things. Arrived to a restaurant that looked run down and smelled unclean. It looked like it was going through renovations. There was a very loud compressor and very little air conditioning. The place was empty except for 2 women. Nobody greeted us and we stood there for 3-5 mins without anyone coming to seat us before someone finally came out of a side area with little energy, no smile, and an AirPod stuck in their ear. The buffet seemed small for how big the restaurant was. There was still a little over an hour left before the lunch buffet ended but everything on offer looked old. We were so put off by the whole experience, we put our plates down and left. This was the second bad experience here. We will not be coming back. read more

The establishment looks nice, plenty of seating, and our server was really nice. We ordered a few things to try, assorted bread basket, chicken pakora, butter chicken, and shrimp vindaloo. I had high hopes for this place, but it didn't compare to the places I typically visit. I would say about 50% of my naan breads were burnt, but had good garlicky flavor. The naan breads were also more on the flat side, compared to the fluffy kinds I tend to get. The butter chicken was okay, but not exceptional. The chicken pakora was juicy, tasted good with the seasonings and came with a tamarind and mint chutney. Only thing was, the pakora was not crunchy and more like a soggy texture. The shrimp vindaloo had a good heat to it and the shrimp was nice and plump. I think it was my favorite of the items we got. read more

The breads are fantastic! And you can even dip it in the appetizer sauce for a little spice. Now, to the Chicken Tikka Masala. This is the dish I try at home. Bollywood is definitely one of the top Indian places for food in my opinion. I always had take-out in the past, but this visit I sat in their dining room. It's simple and quaint. Mr. Raj, the owner, took our order and he explained everything so well. They don't have Americanized versions of the top Indian dishes, so he was clear to let us know what to expect from Bollywood. The chicken tikka marsala and the tandoori chicken were pretty good. They also have the robot to bring food to tables, which is cool, but it seems like they need to work out a few kinks. The robot brought us the wrong food to our table and they had to take it all back. The server said they will unload the tray for tables, but the tray lights up and tells you to please take your food when it arrives to the table. A little conflicting. Bollywood is top notch. There was no problem parking. We were seated immediately and received service right away. There is ample seating and the restaurant is pretty nice size. The service was great. Our server did an excellent job explaining the menu and making sure we were satisfied with our food and experience. The veggie samosas were some of the best I have ever had. This place is very unassuming. The decor is nice and clean and the restaurant looks on par for the local community. The food completely blew me away. This is the best Indian food I've had in a long time and I'm shocked to see a restaurant with this amazing quality of food in the area. The service was exceptional and the owner was wonderful in giving me the history of their many vegan/vegetarian options on the menu. There are many options for dietary restrictions. Bollywood Masala - La Plata is a favorite, especially for the amazing Saturday AYCE India buffet from 11 - 2pm. Perhaps 8 main dishes plus all the side accompaniments. Food is mediocre at best if you know real Indian food. The saag paneer was watery like baby food. The samosas were soft with very little filling. The biriyani was decent. Chicken Makhani which is a staple was terrible. Server was nice but she was the only one in the entire restaurant and it took 45 minutes just for one appetizer. I would not return. Our last visit I was informed that the servers are not allowed to keep their tips if it isn't in the form of cash! Bollywood owners, how can you steal from your hard working employees? This put a sour taste in my mouth and I've lost respect for this restaurant entirely. Shame on you Bollywood, stop being greedy! I honestly don't understand why anyone would work a service job and not be able to keep their tips. Isn't that the point? That's mind blowing crazy to me. If you dine here bring cash and take care of your servers because their service is wonderful. Just because there are robots running out food in the restaurant , the servers still bring value when they give food descriptions, recommendations, and upsell items like the imported ice cream that is a ridiculously small portion by the way. I truly believe in supporting local businesses and want to see them thrive which is why it's difficult to leave this 2 star review. Service was decent and the waitress friendly. However the food from apps to entree were sadly lacking in Indian flavor. I love Indian food but was in shock at the lack of authentic spices and flavor generally found in this amazing cuisine. I ordered the combo appetizer and while it was well fried (not oily), it was just okay. The green and brown sauces were served combined and the flavor was the only thing that helped the apps. I order the Naan with potatoes which was a soft and unpleasant mess. The texture of the naan was so soft it was weird and there was almost no potatoes as filling. I've never had BLAND naan but there is a first time for everything. For my entree I ordered the Goat Nani. It was a one note dish, but the problem is I can't tell you WHAT that note was...I couldn't taste any ginger or distinguish other ingredients. The goat was pretty fatty, as is the case with goat sometimes, but the meat was tender when I was able to cut some away from the fat & bones. Sadly the meat had no seasoning and the sauce didn't have enough personality to elevate the taste of the meat. Lastly the food all came out TOGETHER! Not as an app and then the entree but given my dissatisfaction for the food I didn't complain. I don't believe in wasting food and almost always take food home to see if I can improve it to eat but I didn't here. I'm sorry to admit that I literally left 85% of the food on the table. Businesses should know that customers pay attention to the manner in which others are treated. An older couple thought they ordered one type of naan but apparently it was wrong when they cut into it. The lady explained to the server it wasn't what they wanted and tried to explain to her upon ordering and she told them she'd order the correct item. When the older gentleman asked if they were going to be charged for the wrong item, the server responded YES because you ordered it. We've been coming here since 2012 (?) - either way, it's been a long time and we keep coming back. Raj, the owner, is usually bustling around, but he takes the time to help with orders and check if we like the food. If you're overwhelmed by the menu, he can help you narrow down what dish to get and the level of spiciness. We usually get the Lamb Mango, Lamb Makhani-Madras, and the Lamb Bollywood. Lamb Mango ($19.95) is on the sweeter side - it's not very spicy and serves as a buffer alongside the spicier dishes. Lamb Makhani-Madras ($19.95) is creamy and pretty spicy. It reminds me of a spicy butter chicken, with decent amounts of lamb. Lamb Bollywood ($19.95) is extremely spicy, but in a nice painful way. Each dish comes with basmati rice with cumin seeds. We also order the assorted breads basket ($6.95) to wipe our plates and bowls clean. We also love the hot masala chai - very flavorful and a little spicy, perfect for colder months. The large size is enough for a couple cups each for 3-4 people. The paneers are good, and we've gotten the goat as well (which comes with bones). The desserts are alright, but come in small portions. You can also order beers/flights from a decent selection from the adjacent Taphouse. I know they have a $10 lunch buffet Tuesday-Thursday and a $14 lunch buffet Fridays from 11am-2:30pm. These are mostly veggie/paneer/some chicken options. Overall, best Indian food you can find in St. Mary's County! A little pricey, but we end up with tasty leftovers. read more

This Southern Maryland outpost has moved to a new location. It's a bit closer to the bridge and to more things in general, albeit farther from where I'm visiting when I'm down here. Rather than being in a strip mall, it's now its own freestanding building, and quite a decent size. They took the Bollywood posters from the old location with them for decor. I stopped in for a lunch buffet, and must say I was a tad disappointed. While I was promised choices, it was really a small buffet, with only five entrees, three vegetarian, one vegan. Rice, salad, pakoras, and dessert were the only other things there; I was really miffed to not see any bread, but was mollified when a fresh and pillowy butter naan showed up at my table. Nonetheless, I would have done better to order off the menu, my experience tells me. And given that it is still the same people in charge and I went to the old location many times, I can say with some confidence that ordering something fresh will probably yield a delectable and filling dish. They do mostly North Indian comfort food, which is very heavy and full of flavor. You also can't do better in Southern Maryland to cover your special dietary needs, vegan and gluten-free among them. So while I was disappointed that their lunch buffet was not up to par, I definitely plan on stopping back for dinner again some time to see if I can get their house curry with ghost pepper. My husband, 3 year old son, and I went here for dinner. We were seated and served water. Another couple were seated after us. Immediately the only waitress went over to them and took their drink and appetizer order while we just sat there awaiting service. The owner then went over to the couple as well. As he turned to leave, he noticed us sitting there and asked if we were ok. I proceeded to let him know that the waitress chose to serve the couple that arrived after us. He said I'll take care of you. No apology, no explanation, nothing! We got up and left I refuse to be treated like a 2nd class citizen when food is expensive. Very tasteless, stale, and expensive food!! This is not authentic indian food. I wonder if chef knows Indian cooking. The sizzling Afghan Tanoori chicken was pulled out of oven a bit too soon so it was uncooked. I didn't want to say anything until "daal makhni" came in plastic tupperware which is typically used for chinese takeout. This daal was so tasteless as if the cook gave us boiled lentils without cooking in masala (indian tadka), not even salt in it. We asked if this daal was cooked in masala, the server said she didn't know. We mentioned it seems it was left over from days, she said she know anything. This was definitely left over boiled lentils. Naans seemed to be made in heated oven as opposed to traditional tandoor. Rice and pakoras were definitely stale, these were just heated in microwave and air fryer. We decided not to eat anymore and paid the bill and left. As soon as we left, my wife vomited in parking lot. Non-Indians may enjoy as they don't know how authentic indian food taste since there seems to be only one indian restaurant. read more

Hit Or miss! Seriously, I hate leaving bad reviews, but I think I have to be honest with what you should expect. It's the only Indian restaurant for 60+ min drive in any direction. Tried the place on different occasions over 5+ years and each time it's been different( both good and bad). When good the food and service were on point. When bad, the food was horrible and service was worse. However, I have friends who live in the area who think the place is amazing. If I just had the bollywood chicken it would have been good. But my girlfriend had the goat masala and made my dish seem subpar in comparison. This is single handedly the best Indian dish from a restaurant I have ever had. Do yourself a favor and get it. The owner tells me the goat hanni is even better. As far as food taste - the chips/ sauce they bring out complimentary are absolutely terrible. The samosas are more spicy than you normally get at an Indian Food reataurant. The chicken tikka was our favorite but the peppers undercooked. The butter chicken was ok but not as sweet as normally expected. The chai tea was too strong and needs more milk and sugar. Unfortunately if you are not familiar with Indian food you will take the gamble of trying something new for $16.. do not expect them to exchange it for something else or refund you if you do not like it. Our server could not speak ANY english.. she had to get the manager every time. We did not like the cheese bread and asked for a plain bread instead which they brought(and charged us for) but did not refund the cheese bread($6) even though we spent over $80 for our meals. When I asked the manager kindly about it he was quite aggressive and LOUD with me about how its not his fault we didn't like it and he would go out of business if he refunded or exchanged when people didn't like items. (Something every great restaurant does to ensure customer satisfaction). We cancelled our dessert order - and paid the bill and exited immediately! My recommendations would be: better customer service - friendly and someone who can understand and speak basic English (doesn't have to be great.. but basic food items at least - sugar, box please, more bread, etc). For this restaurant to really succeed it should have a sample plate or something like that of the different sauces and menu photos. Cleanliness.. the air vent over our table had globs of dust hanging from it which were blowing around and we were afraid they were going to blow off into our food.
