    Oxtail Plate

100% trash, oxtails burnt, bitter, cold, raw rice, and covered in a disaster gravy. Just call the place "The Grill," because I am 1000% sure no Jamaican would serve this rubbish. I do not understand the up charge for rice and peas, if you're going to serve raw rice. ‍

This spot was such a pleasant surprise! Located at the end of a strip, this unassuming place is next to a salon. On the inside, the place is small, consisting of mostly the kitchen and a handful of tables open for eating in. Decor is minimal, and there's a full bar behind the counter. I saw signs for happy hour specials, so I may need to check that out in the future. My bf and I ordered two entrees for takeout-- jerk chicken & beef oxtail. Our orders seemed to take quite a long time, but it could have been exacerbated by the fact that we were starving. We caught glimpses of them preparing our food, and it seems they used prepackages parboiled rice? We kept seeing the cook microwave black bowls of rice and then dump it into our containers. The Jerk Chicken was really good. Smoky, seasoned well, and very moist. It tasted as good as the restaurant smelled-- what more could you want?! The mac & cheese was just okay. Nothing special, tasted like the generic kind that comes with tv dinners. Beef oxtail was just okay. Not a lot of flavor. The portion seemed rather generous which I greatly appreciated as oxtail can be pricey. I'd order this again if I was craving it, but wouldn't go out of my way to order it. The fried plaintains were SOOO good. The plain rice and the rice & peas with both of our entrees, we could do without. I'd rather order a different side and just make rice at home. Overall, this place surpassed all my expectations (although low to begin with). Honestly, I'm looking forward to going back soon when I'm in the area. I'll also say that whenever I'm in SoMD, I'm always a little skeptical of any ethnic spots as I have been disappointed more times than not.

Jerk Chicken Quesadilla double meat and cheese

This place is a hidden gem! Got the jerk chicken quesadilla with double meat and cheese with a side of sour cream and some really good Jamaican hot sauce and it was literally the best quesadilla I've ever had....yall gotta give it a shot. My pic only shows half of my quesadilla I had already ate half before I was like damn I need to give this place a review lol and I don't review often!

I stopped in for a quick snack after my appointment with the agent at the Verizon store.. It was a nice quiet low-key spot. I was solo this time, wifey was tied up making $$ so I didn't have my partner in crime with this time.. I only the Jamaican Beef Patties because that's always a go to.. It tasted authentic and seasoned well! This trip served its purpose. I got it and got for a quick snack.. I recommend this spot. Go check it out if you're headed down route 235..

As much as I wanted to love this place, it completely missed the mark in providing tasty Jamacian food. Were it not for the pleasant young lady working the front, the festival and the rum cake l, I'd give this a 1 star rating on the food. I ordered online and they said 30 minutes. Upon arrival the 30 mins turned into a 55 minute wait. I think the cook and the young lady working the register were the only 2 there. Please keep in mind, I didn't ding them for this and try to be patient & understanding. I'll start with the items I enjoyed: the festival was nicely fried, had a nice texture, and was flavorful. If you've never had it before, think of a hush puppy on steroids...these were slightly sweeter than the ones I've had in Jamaica and the restaurants in the DMV. The coco bread was fresh and the plantains were sweet and tender. But the real star and the only thing I'd honestly drive back for is the rum cake! The rum cake was outstanding and would honestly put many other cakes I've had to shame. Now for the not so pleasant items. The half jerk chicken was pretty dry and didn't have much flavor...boring would be a fair statement. The bacon Mac and cheese was some of the worst I've ever eaten and I found myself looking for the cheese. The cooked cabbage had an odd taste that was unpleasant to the palate. The chicken and beef patties had decent flavor but the insides were filled with purée looking meat as opposed to chicken and ground beef. At $4.29 each pattie, I'm hopeful you can afford to use some actual meat. The curry chicken had very little flavor, NO GRAVY ...yes, it was completely dry, and had massive chunks of ginger. I enjoy ginger so I ate it instead of the chicken. The rice and peas was cooked well but also lacked flavor. I was caught off guard when I bit into the carrot slices and the entire peels were still on the carrots. This threw me off because the peel was too tough to chew. The jerk chicken sandwich consisted of 4 strips of under seasoned chicken breast with a really odd tasking jerk glaze, all laid in a piece of coco bread. The chicken was tough and not at all enjoyable. If you decide to try the jerk chicken sandwich, consider asking for the jerk sauce on the side. At least that way you may be able to eat the chicken with the bread. Another positive note is that the place was clean which is important. I'm hoping they can improve their food and wish them success.

If you're local and haven't tried out The Jamaican Grill give em a shot sometime. The owners are super friendly and their food really hits the spot and if its late and you're lazy they're on Doordash too. The jerk chicken is on point and their wraps and pattys are hella tasty. Definitely recommend ordering some extra fried plantains with your order because they're insanely good and addictive. Screw boring basic chain restaurants, support good local mom and pop spots

Some friends wanted to try this so three of us stopped in at about six on a Monday. It's been established at the site of a former Starbucks. I'm not a big Starbucks fan so replacing one with a great Jamaican restaurant is okay in my book. Not large, has about six tables and a bar. clean and bright with a nice vibe and really friendly staff. Brought to you by the same folks who used to run flex grill. Chef Saun Cole is running the kitchen. Food is fantastic. Everything we tried, jerk chicken, sausage, pork, plantains, cabbage, rice and peas was perfect. Right amount of spice without being so hot you can't taste it. Our server Gabby did a nice job and kept us happy. Can't wait to go back.

What the blood clot? I was really hoping this new new place would be good but the food here was straight up nasty. :( They fooled us because we didn't actually look at our food until we got home. We ordered jerk wings with sauce on side(but they were drenched in a foul tasting sauce) & still somehow the chicken was dry and definitely not fresh. We also ordered jerk chicken, peas & rice with plantains. Epic fail on all of the above via carryout. Nothing was remotely edible and I ended up having to cook dinner instead. Boo! Tip: They only accept cash--no cards.

Pros: Possibly the most tender and delicious chicken you can find in all of St. Mary's. Cabbage also well seasoned and cooked the way I like it. Despite some of the cons I list below, I'll say the perfection that was that chicken made up for it. Cons: Brand new, so don't expect the ordering experience to be flawless. Was unsure how/where to order despite a sign saying "order here" which had a patron sitting in a barstool right there. Asked for sauce on mine, wife ordered it on the side, but neither of us got any sauce. Overall: Will be back again. Very tasty. Might try ordering online to go next time to avoid the wait and confusion.

Let me start…read morethis by saying I am from the south and we eat a lot of fried foods in especially fried seafood. I moved here and I was looking for a good place to eat that reminded me of home. At the time it had been pretty hard to find. I decided to stop by this food truck one day when I was on the way home from work. The guy that works there is very nice and patient. I ordered the two pieces of tilapia, six jumbo shrimp, one crabcake, and it came with fries and two hush puppies. Everything was amazing and reminded me of home. All of the food was cooked crispy, and it was not soggy or floppy. Everything was seasoned perfectly, not over season or under season. And the service was quick, it might have took 10 minutes. Everything is always fresh and it never taste like seafood. If you eat a lot of seafood, then you understand what I mean, yes, it is seafood, but it is not supposed to have that fishey smell. Overall, I wish I could give this place a 10 out of 5, but I will settle for a five out of five. Also, the seasoned butter sauce that he has is great.
