First, I'm a veteran, married to a veteran and the mother of a veteran.. we love Mission. That said, this location should be closed. It's dirty. The food sub par and service is insulting I normally visit the Annapolis location but happened to be in this area today I ordered a pulled pork neat with fries, two additional sides and the seasonal special cobbler . I watched them take a dirty paper cup and scoop some pork remnants out of a pan and put it in my Togo container.... So gross and cold left over fries. Then they told me the cobbler would be 17 minutes! ( pro tip: don't sell it if it isn't available) the manager,?? Not sure because he never looked at me, or acknowledged me in anyway, told the cashier to credit my card? No apology no chit chat no nothing I am treated better at McDonald's Customer Service-failed Food: when I arrived home my husband opened his lunch to gross, mushy, pork leftovers... like they minced the meat , zero flavor, and 10 fries! We came here and ordered takeout. We got the brisket moist option, the ribs and the Mac and cheese. Everything came out really fast and the meats are definitely good. The moist option is definitely fatty so next time, I would go for the lean. Ribs were also cooked really well, the meat was falling off the bone and the seasoning was just right. The hidden gem was the cornbread which was moist, crumbly and perfectly sweet and savory. I would highly recommend this spot for BBQ! read more

As someone born and raised in Central Texas, I've got pretty high standards for BBQ, so take this with a grain of salt (or brisket rub). Mission BBQ is... fine. It's solidly mid-grade chain BBQ...nothing offensive, but nothing that's going to make you forget the real deal back home. The brisket is the bigges letdown for me. It's sliced thin, a little dry on the edges, and lacks that deep smoke ring and tender pull-apart texture you expect. Flavor's there-ish, but it's just not smoky or juicy enough. I could (and have) made way better brisket in my own backyard, but honestly, I don't because who has 12-16 hours on a Saturday? Still, if you're comparing to legit Texas pitmasters, this brisket ain't it. Or even really,.. I guess a Texas pit-padawan like myself. Ribs are similar--decent smoke flavor, but they're a touch overcooked or sauced in a way that makes them fall off the bone without much chew. Again, I can do better at home, but time is the enemy. Chicken comes out dry sometimes. Not always, but I've had it a couple times where it's borderline stringy and lacking moisture. Pulled pork is honestly the winner here--tender, good smoke, not too sweet or overseasoned. That's the one thing I'd order again without hesitation. Sides are hit-or-miss: mac & cheese is creamy and solid, cornbread's okay, baked beans are sweet but forgettable. Fries and coleslaw are standard chain-level. Grabbed to-go sauces the other day and they were weird--congealed, almost jelly-like consistency when cold. Had to warm them up just to make them pourable. Not a great look. Atmosphere is clean, patriotic-themed (lots of flags and military nods, which fits the Pax River crowd), service is friendly and fast, prices are reasonable for what you get. It's a reliable spot if you're craving BBQ and don't want to drive far or wait forever. Would I go out of my way? Nah. But if I'm in the area and lazy, I'll hit it for the pulled pork and call it a day. read more

Loved their service and atmosphere. They were so friendly and hospitable. The food was amazing, never had a dry bite of bbq. Their brisket is delicious and tender and easily my favorite menu selection. The manager had heard we were first timers and even graciously served us dessert on the house! Let me start by saying that every time i go to the actual restaurant, its usually pretty good, but this time, it was catered for a work event. I have to say, I was very disappointed. I get very picky when it comes to BBQ, so maybe this is not a big deal to you, but to me, it is. Lets start with what was the most glaring offense, and this was the brisket. The brisket we had we eaten directly after it was setup, and man was it sad. the meat was DRY as hell. That was the last thing I expected, but its what I got. the brisket was not only dry, but was crumbling. the meat was cut into slices, but being so dry, it eventually fell apart. I don't know when it was cooked, but we are less than a mile away, so transport wasn't the issue. I suspect that it was cooked way earlier and that's what we got, but that's just my hypothesis. So disappointing. Now lets talk about the pulled pork. It was meh. Again, i expected better, but it was also a bit dry (not as bad as the brisket though). You definitely need to add some sauce to it, which should not be a requirement when eating pulled pork. Overall, it was meh..... They also had turkey, but I don't like turkey, so i cant comment firsthand, but those that ate it , we indifferent to it. Nothing glaring positive or negative. The cornbread that we had was again, with the overall theme here, dry. Folks kept telling me that they needed to slather it with butter because it was so dry, and I would agree because I had the same experience with it. The baked beans, in my opinion weren't very good. Now I like a nice baked bean, but these just weren't very good. I've said this about their beans in the past, and continue to give them a try and always come to the same result. I think this is going to be the last time I eat the beans. Some folks liked them, but I would respectfully disagree.. So overall, I don't think I would ever do catering with them again, but I'd still go to the restaurant to eat. read more

Freedom isn't free, BUT a meal is on Veteran's Day!!! I can not stop raving about Mission BBQ and the support that they give to the troops and the once-were troops!! I have been to several of the restaurants around the DMV area and I must say I am always impressed. I was happy to see that they pulled out all stops for Veteran's Day!!! I stopped in this location for a sandwich but it was a celebration!!! It was so bright in the restaurant, there was cake, veterans everywhere, and the staff was wonderful. As they took your order, they said "thank you for your service". They were tripping over each other to serve! It was wonderful to witness. Thank you so much Mission for providing a little extra!!! Oh...and the turkey sandwich - really worth every penny. Mouthwatering...juicy...fresh and way too much for a sandwich - heavy on the meat. Yes, I know mission barbecue is part of a growing chain of barbecue locations. But the quality can vary from location to location whenever I find myself in southern Maryland. I always like to stop at this location. With the Air Force Base literally across the street it's always very cold to go in and have your barbecue and sat next to pilots and their jumpsuits! I have been to many mission barbecues my lunch today had the most tender pork spare ribs. There was absolutely no fat on them, and the meat was like they say fall off the bone! They are big beans are also always outstanding. It's not like I eat here frequently but I probably stop by every 2 to 3 months when I'm in the area visiting clients. We had family in town and chose this restaurant for a big, family meal. We tried--and LOVED--the brisket, pulled chicken (seriously the best chicken I've had in years), pulled pork, and the jalapeño & cheese sausages. All of the meats were perfect! We also got family portions of the baked beans (a bit tangier than the ones I make, but really tasty), macaroni and cheese (you can't go wrong with this), corn on the cob (not my favorite part of the meal), and the amazing banana pudding (which I was craving for days afterward). We ordered online--super easy & detailed--and I was surprised when an expediter walked me through every container and then described each of the sauces and helped me make choices for my guests. Ok, please bear with me why I try to explain why I would not recommend this restaurant. I mean I normally try my best to leave positive reviews, but truthful. Let just say this was the worse $100 I spent since I can remember. This was my daughter's birthday and we tried to patronize a new and different restaurant we haven't been to before either though she didn't agree.. smh.. But she trust my judgment and we're paying, she obliged.. As my teenagers say, it was a fail mission.. One of the main problems we experienced was that all of the 3 Meat Sampler was cold. The pull pork, pull chicken and baby back ribs.. The cornbread was not only room temperature too is was a little chewy. The Glazed Shrimp helped me give the 2 star rating. However, the Mac n Cheese was hot and cheesy but too loose. We definitely wasn't feeling the bread crumbs on top. Personally, I believe the air and the ventilation is part of the problem of how fast the food gets cold when it's brought out to you. Don't get me wrong the cashier, the young lady who helped bring the food to the table and the guy Matthew who came to check on us throughout our time were all pleasant and helpful. The 2 star rating doesn't have anything to do with them.. Unless, they are cooking and preparing the food this is not their plight. You know I will just stop right there. What is there not to love about Mission BBQ!?! Great food, in a consistently clean environment with friendly staff. The salmon, yardbird and Black plate specials are always on point. But so is the beef brisket and their sides. So why 4 instead of 5 stars you ask? Some of the locations accept call in orders but they don't physically fix your order until you arrive. In California, MD for example there is no carry out line/area so you have to stand in line with everyone else, even if you've already paid for your food, wait to tell them you're there and then, more often than not, WAIT for your order to be prepared. I haven't experienced this at the Crofton, MD location however, so they get 5 Stars! Still, I love this place and will continue to support them. I even get the Military cup just to put ice in it. This restaurant is the standard setter for what customer service and food quality should be. Since Covid all you hear is how customer service is dead and how customer service across the board has declined to almost non existent levels. I promise you that the Mission BBQ in California , Md has set the customer service bar so high that I do not think anyone could ever come close. I eat there several times a month and have for years. The team members there obviously are well trained properly. From the moment you walk through the doors , they greet you like family. The manager walks around talking with all the customers, making sure your 100% happy. They have people walking around handing out samples of foods or desserts. For several years I needed to use a cane to walk as I was recovering from numerous surgeries, they were so attentive that they would not let me carry my food the the table. Someone would hop around the counter and gladly deliver my meal to the table , without me ever asking, When they say MISSION that's exactly what they mean. They put their $ where their mouth is as they are constantly visiting either different military offices or first responders with meals. Arrive before noon each day and you will experience something that is dead in most businesses and that's pure 100% patriotism. At noon , no matter how many people are their , Everyone stands to join in as people from all walks of life sing the National Anthem. What a great experience from start to finish. read more

So it was our first time trying mission bbq, we ordered brisket, pork and sausage ( 2 entree) to go. My husband picked it up, came home, we opened the box and saw what they call "brisket", the picture is below. I had to call and talk to manager on what she told me that they open and show boxes to all the customer, my husband said they did, but so fast he couldn't even see much, and maybe it was half of his fault not looking at it all and right away asking where is the brisket, but as a cook or a manager who checking all the boxes, who put this kind of meat on the plate to serve it to people it's ridiculous, come on... it all fat, no piece of meat on it or as we call it brisket! But the service level inside was extraordinary. And a great tell of fast casual- somebody actually goes around cleaning the tables. Is there anything worse than going somewhere & all the tables are covered in crumbs & beverage glass condensation rings? Somebody has some standards & conveys them well to staff. I wanted to try this place since I saw it a few years ago. The food looks better in earlier pictures. The food we had for lunch an hour ago was anything but BBQ. No smoky smell when you walk in. The food was warm the sides were hotter than the main dish. There were no smoke rings around the meat tell-tail sign that they were BBQd. We spent $57.00 and it was definitely not worth the price for two meals. I love me some BBQ I have my own pellet grill so I have a good idea of what I am telling you, but in no way am I an expert. But I have been to many BBQ joints in my life and I can tell you this ain't no BBQ place. I think either it was done in a rostier style or maybe a crockpot as the meat was nice and tender and juicy. No smoky burnt pieces on the outside of the meat so you know it wasn't put on a BBQ grill. This is my opinion. read more

Visited this chain for the first time on my lunch break and I was pleasantly surprised. The food came out quick and hot. I had the pulled pork sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. As a mac and cheese enthusiast I definitely recommend theirs, its incredibly creamy and flavorful.
