I'm not sure how I've managed to not provide a yelp review on Bollywood considering that I've been going there for over 15 years The original location is on Dempster and Crawford in Skokie and this place no matter what over the years has always been filled with very skilled and talented women who can thread your face so quickly and so precisely it's incredible The prices have definitely gone up overtime as expected however, you can always expect to be able to sit in the chair and get out of that chair and probably less than 10 minutes This is the best threading I've ever had outside of India and the owner. I've met her a couple times when they first initially opened and she's very kind and very friendly. They now have a second location further down on Dempster by Skokie Boulevard however parking here is very tricky and maybe only eight spaces Sonya is their most popular and you have to make an appointment to see her now if she's been with them I believe since day one I always get my eyebrows and my upper lip done here and they do a great job !!!! read more

My wife went to get her hair trimmed and she came back feeling devastated. This place is very unprofessional, they burned her hair and the hair cut was so bad that it was uneven. Her hair keeps falling off from the burnt spot and the lady did not acknowledge the burn and said that it was "normal". Hair salons like this one should be closed. read more

First timers should go with a friend who can talk them through the process. You will be asked to lightly hold and stretch your forehead and eyelid so that the brow artist can place the thread exactly where it needs to be. Threading can feel like a paper cut, but the beautician is not cutting you. The acute pain is perfectly normal. While Bollywood Salon techs are artful at threading, their waxing skills are not as neat. Sticky wax residue may be left on your skin for you to scrub off later with oil. They get the job done, however. So if you need your legs or other large body part waxed for little money, Bollywood will do just fine. read more

I've never had anything done on me. So I can only tell you from a driver's perspective. I drive my sis up here once in awhile. Great place to have your eyebrows did, BUT, depends on who is doing it. I assumed most women would be picky about who takes care of them, especially when it deals with something so important. Jacked up eyebrows is a big deal. I've heard a few women talk about the hit or miss goings on here. Two out of two say, Maggie is best at what she does. She listens to your comments on how you want it and she does it, while adding her own technique. I won't name other stylists; they might acknowledge you talking, but pay no attention. Then you have a jacked up brow. Or its good sometimes and sucks ass other times. Maggie is consistent. If you have a favorite stylist, don't be shy. We're talking about your face! Have the best every time. Waiting for your sig. other? They mounted a flat screen TV, pumping out Bollywood's newest music video's. They also have an area for kids to play with Lego's while waiting. I was surprised this last time. Looking at that play area, few things come to mind. The toys are immaculate. There is more than one option for children. Little things like that, show you, how much an establishment cares. FYI, I've been to clinics where toys were never cleaned. (germs!) read more

I came here for the first time to receive the infamous eyebrow threading - they raised the price from $5 to $6, but still cheap, nonetheless. I had the pleasure of having Sonia, and she was extremely sweet and asks you beforehand what shape/thick/thinness you want your eyebrows to look like - she is gentle (even though the whole process hurts like a female dog anyways) - it is recommended to get your eyebrows done every 2 weeks. If you're a first-timer to get your eyebrows done, it is suggested to start off with waxing (since they take off the brows at once); however, I opted for the threading since it is done by hand with the string and seems more clean cut. Lotion is applied afterwards, and the redness does go away after a good handful of minutes (I also have terribly sensitive skin, so this was quite a surprise!). They updated the salon interiors! Looks good. This is the best threading salon you can go to on the north side. I am not sure who did my eyebrows yesterday but she did fantastic job. She listened and took very little off just around the arch nothing drastic. She just knew what I needed done and when I was done it looked great. The salon loses a star because the woman who was supposed to do our tattoos was a no-call-no-show even though she confirmed the appointment the day before. Fortunately, Zubeda was there and swooped in to save the day. After she finished her hair appointment (she did a beautiful job styling the client's hair for her engagement pictures), she did our henna tattoos. I'm giving only one star because I was appalled by the staff's COVID procedures. I went in earlier in the day during a weekday and there was only one other customer there. The staff took my name for contact tracing, but no temperature. One of staff used a steam mister and quickly misted the seat for a couple seconds before asking me to sit there. A mister...against COVID. She then grabbed clearly used gloves from behind the desk that might have been saved from the day before or shared. She also grabbed a clear face shield but never wore it. Looks like they were implementing some risky cost-cutting measures. This incident occurred pretty early during the outbreak and I hope they've improved since then, however, I will not be returning. I'm concerned that if this was the hygiene during a pandemic, what do they do normally? read more

When I was checking Yelp to see reviews about the service I wanted, I noticed that there were no reviews about the eyebrow tinting. That always makes me a bit nervous but I decided to go ahead because the price at Bollywood for brow tinting rivals the prices at other places by at least $8. My brows were done by a sweet lady, whose name I didn't catch. The woman gave me only two options for brow tinting- which is definitely a downside. I chose medium brown because that fits the color of my hair luckily. She filled in my brows with the dye and let it sit on for about 10 minutes. The process of taking it off was definitely a bit of scrubbing, which wasn't the best feeling ever. But I think my brows turned out looking quite good. A star is lost because of only 2 color options and because my brows are definitely a bit more block-esc at the front then I would want. The woman didn't ask me about styling my brows so luckily I have brows that are thicker and so the tinting didn't end up looking ridiculous. A bit of dye is left on the tail of my right brow which isn't the best. Take my experience as what you will, but I really like how they turned out. read more

Did you know that there are absolutely NO salons that offer threading in the North Shore? Yup, none. So, coming home from work, I decided to drive through Skokie to see what I could find. Luckily, Bollywood is located in a strip mall right off Dempster, so parking is waaaaaay easier than going anywhere on Devon. The wait on Friday night was only about 5 minutes, so that was an unexpected surprise! The salon is cutely decorated, clean and has a tv/magazines in the waiting area. The nice threader did a great job on my eyebrows, although I think she left the ends a little too thin. But, eh, they grow back! I wanted to get my upper lip threaded, but she suggested waxing it, as it would be less painful (in her opinion!). Eyebrow threading is $6 and a lip wax is $4! Pretty good prices! And, yes you can leave tip on the CC. One tip: The lights are BRIGHT in here. Like, blindingly bright. So, really, don't try to open your eyes until AFTER they tell you it's safe. When I go here I always go to Emmy (that's how it sounds like, but its actually spelled differently). If she's not there I will go to Sonia. The owner is an older "fabulous" [loud] lady and can push you in to services you dont want so just dont feel bad to say no. Nonetheless the girls here are really nice. I would just call ahead of time to see if they can fit you in because I tends to get very busy here. Price wise its not bad. $6 for threading womens eyebrows and $4 for upper lip. For men's eyebrows I believe its $10, but you can always call for pricing. read more

This place is convenient but not the best. I've been here numerous times and each experience is a little bit different. Sometimes it's great but most of the time it's "just getting your eyebrows done cause you just got to!" There are some of the things they should improve on: Don't eat smelly foods and then thread eyebrows. It's very stinky for the customer and some foods can irritate a persons eyes. Don't talk on the phone while doing someone's eyebrows. You start spitting on them and you make us think you're not concentrating on the task at hand. Don't have a huge argument with the other staff members while the place is full of customers. It's very unprofessional and uncomfortable for everybody. (Yes, this actually happened and the owner was the one yelling at everyone! I thought my eyebrows were going to be super crooked.) I'm too embarrassed to write exactly WHAT happened to me but to summarize without too much detail I'll just say arm pits are NOT supposed to be threaded - it causes injury that lasts two weeks.... And when I pass on the bikini wax please don't announce it to the whole salon then laugh. Perhaps it's more to do with your technique than it has to do with my pain tolerance. Just sayin. Both my cousin and I had both our lip and brows threaded and they quoted us $10 for each of us. I had an older lady do mine and she missed a lot of spots but the a younger lady did my cousins and she did a great job. I bought the Yelp deal and she didn't understand and kept trying to charge me again the full $20 again. the lady who did mine threading couldn't read the code from my phone...which now explains why she missed a lot of spots. read more

About half the cost of similar services in the city, about inexpensive-average for the suburbs. They do a pretty good job - I went in for threading, told them about my sensitive skin and for the first time did NOT have severe redness immediately afterwards that could not be soothed or covered by makeup. Over several years of threading, it almost always takes overnight for my face to be presentable again. The tradeoff is that this is not the cleanest threading job I've ever had - will definitely need to take care of stragglers here and there over the next few days, but nothing 5 seconds with a tweezer can't resolve. Overall, a worthy tradeoff to not have to wonder whether or not it's going to be okay to go out in public the next day. They did a great job with my eyebrows on the instructions to just clean it up. Did not like that they didn't bother to use scissors to trim a couple hairs here and there, but again, for the price, I can't complain. She finished with aloe and a pleasant surprise was a couple minute facial massage that came with the application! Parking lot right outside, free and convenient. Minimal wait time. You are never going to find another salon where you get more bang for your buck than Bollywood. Eyebrow threading for $6 cannot be beat. My eyebrows don't need much shaping, so I just ask for them to be "cleaned up" and I am always satisfied. There can be a bit of a wait if you come during peak hours, but Bollywood works with your schedule-- they're open 7 days a week and holidays! Threading here is clean, precise, and efficient. I've never gotten any other services done here other than threading, and I don't think I would. ONLY Come here for hair removal and not for spa services. I went for a facial and it costs $70 but was not worth even 25. They used cold water the whole time. The room for the spa is connected to the hair salon and there is no door or privacy. Very loud and other employees kept on coming in to grab things they needed from the room. I also had to wait 30 minutes for Sonya to give me a facial even though I had an appointment. Very dissapointing. read more

Went here after my lady moved from her salon to another. This place was close to my house so I decoded to give it a try. I told her that I don' like them thin, seemed like she knew whats he was doing because the previous client walked out with a smile from ear to ear. I was a little relieved thinking I would too. I asked her just to clean it up because I don't like my eyebrows super thin. They are very light to begin with and making them thin would make me look like I didn't have any! She took about 10 minutes on me because she had to run all over the place helping other people and answering the phones. So I leaned back when she was finally done I was horrified. I basically had nothing left. I was so upsetI almost wanted to cry, I just wanted to get out of there asap. Never again.
