Being that two of us did not eat meat, we ordered options such as the Crispy Potato Pancake, Jap-Che (vegetarian option), and Mushroom Tofu Bibimbap. All of these items were simply delicious. The majority of the table shared the Marinated Package, which contained Short Rib, Beef Belly, Skirt Steak and Sirloin Bulgogi. They thought it was great. It's definitely expensive, so keep that in mind.

I recommend the salt and pepper chicken which was incredibly juicy and crispy. The spicy one was very good too but the sauce was nothing special. It comes with kimchi, broccoli, fish cake, lotus roots, lotus and more as sides. The fish cake was a little too tough, kind of like jerky. I thought the meats were very tender and the marinade for the beef was very flavorful without being too overpowering. The cuts to the meat make it very easy to chew so it almost melts in your mouth. I also loved that the cooking stove has the vents on the side so the air doesn't even hit your face or clothes. The staff will cook everything in front of you as well so you don't have to worry about a thing. With that being said, do I think it's worth the price? Debatable. It's a very typical Korean bbq and you're not getting anything very special. It's nice for the ambience of a nice date.

The service was amazing and Allison made sure my friend enjoyed her bday. The ambiance was beautiful, however, we needed our lights from the phone to see the menu. The only reason why…read moreI gave it three stars is because of the great service I received from the staff which includes the hostess, the waiter, the bussers and the bathroom attendant. They even played throwback jams and I had liked how this one busser was vibing to the music as he was waiting to assist at a table. It was the food I had problems with. For appetizer I had order the Vegetable Egg roll and it didn't say on the menu that the dip was spicy nor did the waiter, my mouth was burning all through dessert, I had to drink so much water. That sauce tasted like hot sauce and I hate hot sauce!!! The sauce went through my nose and through my mouth, this sauce really messed up my pallet. I had order for the entree Thai Sweet and Spicy Shrimp, I couldn't tell if it was really that spicy because I still had the burning sensation in my mouth from the appetizer still!!! For dessert I had order the banana pudding crumble and it looked like a crumble of mess, it tasted good when you got to the bottom to the pudding. The presentation of this dessert was a hot mess, it looked like a rushed job the chef threw in the two cut banana's and the vanilla wafer cookies and chopped up the cookie and just dumped it in the dish. I did like the dish the dessert came in. My biggest complaint is that sauce never be served and the disappointing banana pudding. I mean how do you mess up banana pudding. I was taken to the second floor and was really shocked it had a top floor, just like I was stunned to learn that I had to go down the stairs to restroom. The restroom was clean. I thought it was funny how the men's room was called Yang and the woman's was called Yin. My biggest problem with the restroom was they have toilet seat covers over the toilet, but it was an empty box and I had used two different stalls before and after my meal. And I said how there was a bathroom attendant in there. For a well known restaurant, I had excepted a better experience from Tao's.

However, during my most recent visit, I experienced several significant issues regarding service clarity, safety, and customer support. Previously, staff prepared and grilled the meat at the table. On recent visits, the service model shifted to self-service without clear communication to guests. During my latest meal, after waiting without guidance, I began grilling the meat myself, only for a staff member to step in midway through. Subsequently, staff placed food on the grill but left it unattended for extended periods, causing it to smoke heavily. Shortly after, a severe flare-up occurred when grease caused large flames and heavy smoke to erupt from the grill, splattering hot grease onto me. Three staff members responded, and when one opened the cabinet beneath the table, a cloud of trapped smoke escaped into the dining room. Rather than addressing the hazard, staff inaccurately accused me of pouring oil onto the grill. The smoke eventually triggered the building's fire alarm, resulting in the response of the FDNY and prematurely ending our meal. When I raised these concerns with the manager, the only resolution offered was a $4 discount on the bill. Given the physical hazard, poor communication, and inappropriate handling of the situation by the staff, this response was deeply disappointing. I hope management takes these safety and service concerns seriously to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Orders are one per person and must be dine in only. Time frame for deal is 12pm-4pm. Happened to be in K-town and was looking for something on the lighter side to eat & saw the ad on the window. I was seated at the front of the restaurant and ordered. The noodles come with a side of daikon radish and kimchi. Noodles are not a heavy meal, it won't leave you completely full, but that's just what I wanted. Ensure you mix the sauce and noodles well to get flavor and add the side dishes and it was good. This is a great deal. There is also a full menu of other items as well. Make sure you tip the staff. They were quite attentive. Cash for this deal only.

We walked into a casual space with a mix of indoor and outdoor seating, the kind of place that works as a convenient spot for a relaxed meal, especially if you are looking for a late-night option in the area. The dining room had a practical, laid-back energy with a layout that accommodated both small groups and larger parties, and the outdoor seating added a nice touch when the weather was comfortable, giving the restaurant a more lively neighborhood feel. The menu covers many of the classic dishes you would expect from this style of restaurant. We ordered a few items and found the jjajangmyun and jjampong popular choices, offering the combination of noodles, rich sauces, and bold flavors that make these dishes so comforting. The jjajangmyun had a savory black bean sauce that coated the noodles evenly, and the jjampong brought a spicy, seafood-forward broth that warmed the palate. Portions were generous, and the food came out hot and quickly, making it a solid option when we were craving Korean-Chinese food. While the flavors were enjoyable and satisfying, the dishes were more about comfort and familiarity rather than being something that stood out as exceptional. The restaurant also had a good variety of other options including dumplings, tangsuyuk, bibimbap, japchae, and a selection of drinks, with the tangsuyuk offering a crispy exterior and a sweet and sour sauce that added a nice contrast to the noodle dishes. The service was efficient and the atmosphere had a casual, laid-back feel. The location made it a convenient choice when other restaurants in Koreatown were busy or when we were looking for somewhere open later. The outdoor seating gave the restaurant a more open, neighborhood feel, and the staff moved through the room with efficiency, keeping the pacing of the meal comfortable. Overall, Shanghai Mong is a decent spot for Korean-Chinese comfort food. It may not be the place we would go specifically for the best version of these dishes, but it delivers satisfying portions, quick service, and a convenient location. If you are in the mood for jjajangmyun, jjampong, or a late-night meal in Koreatown, it is a reliable option.
