Service was a 5/5, and I really appreciate the server cooking our meat for us. However the meat cuts that we ordered was just less good than at other kbbq restaurants and cost about $48 per cut. The brisket was the best thing we ordered but was on the oilier side due to the interesting grill shape that pooled all the oil inside instead of leaking into an oil trap. The marinated short rib was cut into a crisscrossed shape to have more surface area but it just wasn't my favorite was of cooking short rib. Lastly the haeundae style bulgogi was just odd to me, cooked in the marinade so it was effectively boiled with enoki mushrooms and sauce. It lead to a rather chewy ground beef texture and was not the grilled style I prefer. The fried dumplings here were thick and tough instead of tender, but were quite fragrant from the chives. Overall I think that this place is unique and may not be everyone's cup of tea, as it definitely wasn't mine. The atmosphere was classy and nice though, and if you do your research before coming you might like it.

Food 4.5/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Value 3/5 Drinks 3/5 Yoon Haeundae Galbi: Great for KBBQ & apps, but I'd skip the cocktails Tteokbokki: 4.75/5. Crispy, chewy, and easily the best thing we ate. Potato Pancake & Octopus: 4.5/5. Both reliable and well-executed Prime Set: 4.5/5. Quality is there, though very "NYC portioned" Drinks: 2.5/5. Marinated Short Rib and Silken Tofu Stew lunch set menu.
    Ted K.

Got the lunch set menu of marinated short rib and silken tofu stew which seemed like a bargain for $37 but I probably made a mistake. The meat was cooked in the kitchen not tableside and was good. But I probably sound have ordered à la carte and have it grilled at the table. Sigh.

We picked this placed not really knowing anything about it. Later on, I saw a video that mentioned it was on the top 4 rated Korean BBQ spots on Beli. We ordered the marinated package not expecting anything. We have our list of places where we love marinated short ribs or ribeyes. Boy, were we surprised when we took our first bite without any seasoning, as suggested by our server. The cut on the meat made it very tender and the seasoning was on point. This blew away whatever notion we had of good marinated meat. It was spectacular to say the least. Even though our server jumped from table to table, he was very informative and attentive. Service from the other staff was also good. When our banchans were running low, they asked if we wanted more. We love our banchans and usually have to ask, but not here. They treat you like family. It was also our first time to have lotus root, it was phenomenal. The place is impressive, good ventilation. Let me say, this gave a whole new meaning to Korean BBQ for us. This is now our favorite spot for KBBQ. Thank you!

Everything was so delicious. The meat was really flavorful--especially the marinated galbi--and tender. The glass noodles were a bit bland, but still overall very good mixed in with all the vegetables. The octopus over rice was also amazing, with a great sauce on the rice. I wasn't a huge fan of the banchan selection, as they personally don't have any of my favorites, but it was a good spread. They cook the meat for you at a grill on a table.

Yoon Haeundae is a higher end Korean BBQ, and I definitely enjoyed my experience here! The banchan were refreshing and I really liked the bean curd and broccoli. My favorite was the lotus root, I liked the seasoning on that. I also had the marinated beef package - it was a set of 4 different cuts of beef, with the final one cooked in a soup/hot pot style. I liked everything I had!

We were blown away. The value, quality, staff service, and interior design - this place has it all. In fact, we were so impressed that we are already planning out trip back to New York to come back here. We came during lunch and ordered from their amazing value lunch sets. The four of us all chose the marinated short ribs as we wanted to try their famous galbi. Haeundae galbi is very famous and popular in Korea. We chose soybean stew, silken tofu stew, and kimchi stew. And since we don't come to New York often, we also ordered Uni Mentaiko rice and spicy cold noodles. Oh man, everything was amazingly delicious. The galbi was high quality ribs cooked to perfection and cut in perfect sizes for easy picking. The stews were all fantastic. The shrimp and crab inside the silken tofu soup were huge and fresh. The soybean stew was amazing. The Uni Mentaiko rice was savory and super delicious. And the cold noodles? I still dream about it. One of the best Korean restaurants, ever. The lunch set was a steal at less than $40 for its quality.

Not a long wait for a late Saturday night. The service was good and the food was good. Vibe was cool. Would consider visiting again.

One of the best kbbq spots that I've had in New York! Our server, Amy, was amazing - she provided exceptional customer service, was so sweet, helped us mix our noodles and grill our meats, and even had a tide pen for stains! We tried the prime/mari combo and the porterhouse combo. My friends and I enjoyed the non-marinated meats more as it was fun to dip in the provided sauces. Highlights were: porterhouse (both filet mignon and New York strip sides were delicious), dry aged ribeye, spicy busan cold noodles, and potato noodle add-on The potato noodle add-on is slightly sweet so it's almost like a dessert noodle at the end. It was a great way to end the meal and a unique item at this restaurant - normally other restaurants do fried rice. I would recommend this spot for groups so that you can try more things! The combo portions are very generous.

the first floor seating doesn't have the kbbq tables. if you order meat, they'll cook it in the kitchen and bring it out and cut for you. server was very nice and asked if we had any allergies. she also cut the meat and mixed the rice for us. the dry aged ribeye was very good. it's around a 10oz portion so the four of us were able to have 3-4 pieces. the sorbet was refreshing and cold. don't pour all of the brown syrup/sauce in or it can be too sweet.

The banchan is superior and the meat is delicious. Could use more lettuce and rice provided.

Stopped by Yoon Haeundae with a friend in town and really enjoyed our meal! While we got seated pretty quickly as a walk-in on a Friday night, they ran out of tables with working stoves so our meats were served on cast iron plates. Taste and service wise it would have been a 5/5 but I think my experience was missing the crucial ingredient of actively grilling on the hot sizzling plate in front of me and watching it cook. To start, the yellowtail was very fresh with an interesting citrus-y but also sesame-influenced sauce. The Busan neighborhood pancake was fluffy, chewy, but also packed with a good mix of scallions and protein (shrimp and pork). Banchans were also pretty solid! I especially enjoyed the lotus root, broccoli, and fish cake. For BBQ, the galbi was definitely my favorite. It was well marinated and chewy without being too fatty. The ribeye was solid and the bulgogi was well-seasoned. Again I would preferred to cook the meats myself since I liked it more charred. The meats came with the ssam set and I really enjoyed the variety of jangs, especially the anchovy one and the pine-nut forward one. Veggies were fresh! Staff were friendly, polite, and patient. They were pretty prompt about refilling the banchan. This place is definitely an elevated, classy KBBQ experience with minimalistic decor. The space is big with two floors and a bar area upstairs.

I feel like Yoon is the most underrated kbbq in manhattan. My favorite things to order: -Uni bowl: FIRE, the flavors and textures go so well together. It's one of my favorite dishes in all of NYC -steak tartar: another great option, love the juicy pears they pair with it -wagyu short rib: I'm not a huge meat lover, so I don't really order the packages. This cut of meat is my favorite! Tender but not too fatty. Yoon is always a great time, food and service is consistently good and the price is decent as well!

Ask the Community - Yoon Haeundae Galbi

Do you cook your own, or does your server do it?

    Server does it all!

What's your BYOB policy? I got some fancy soju from my recent Korea trip and would love to try it at one of my favorite kbbq place! It's about 43% alcohol in case that matters. Thanks!

Regular wine (15% or below) is $30 per bottle. Anything higher is $50 per bottle.

What does the dipping sauce comprise? It looks like salt and chili powder? Are we supposed to add sesame oil to it?

Don't add sesame oil to it!! It is salt and fine red pepper powder. You simply just dip the meat and eat! It brings out the flavor of the meat.

I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and found the restaurant moderately crowded. We were greeted promptly and seated upon entry. I found the space comfortable and relaxed. Our waiter was polite and attentive. We ordered the corn bread as an appetizer. I prefer sweet cornbread versus jalapeño, so it wasn't my thing. However, my cousin is the opposite and she really enjoyed it. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, greens, and biscuit. I didn't care for the greens, but the biscuit and pulled pork was excellent. My sister had the ribs, greens, and dirty rice. She didn't like any of her food. She said the ribs had a lot of gristle. There was very little meat on the bone. I tasted the rice and agreed with her assessment. It wasn't that good. Our cousin had the chicken, mac-n-cheese, and baked beans. She liked her food. My cousin had been to Virgil's before many years ago and said this experience mirrored past ones. We all ordered dessert as well. i had the strawberry shortcake, which wasn't great. The strawberries were fresh, and I liked the whipped cream, but the "shortcake" was actually the same biscuit that was served with my meal. It wasn't sweet enough and just didn't work well. I ended up picking over the dessert, so most of it went to waste. My sister had the key lime pie which she didn't like. My cousin had the banana pudding which she enjoyed. Overall, the experience got mixed reviews, but I'd visit Virgil's again in the future for sure. The bill ended up being about $150 plus, if I recall correctly, because we ordered alcoholic beverages as well.

I think you have the option to cook it yourself or have them cook it for you and we chose the latter. While I enjoyed it, I wish there was more space. Most of the space was taken up by the accompaniments that come with it (veggies, etc), so there was hardly any room to put anything else. Since our program covered the expenses, we didn't pay anything out of pocket. Now I enjoy a good BBQ cookout at home as much as the next family, but don't care for it as a dining experience. My employer catered BBQ luncheons from time to time, and even then I wasn't crazy about it. Here in Hill Country, a room was reserved for us (party of 36). Our dinnerware resembled army mess tins lined with sanitary papers; our glasses resembled moonshine jars complete with screw threads at the rim for lids. Our dinner was a catered set of longhorn cheddar mac & cheese (quite good), sliced brisket (meh), market chicken (a little tough), fresh baked cornbread (dry & hard) and collard greens (good but could be saltier). I consumed massive amounts of mac & cheese and collared greens to help swallow down the almost rock-hard cornbread. Desert was chocolate chip cookies (that wasn't bad). Some members of the group ordered liquor (at their own expense) to celebrate the good time they were having. Customer service was less than stellar. The waitress did not inform us that soft drinks were complimentary until after we finished eating. That wasn't all. The restroom was located downstairs past the bar room. During my two visits - before and after the food was served - the same staff member was there cleaning. He had just finished the sinks when I went in the first time. On the second visit, the front door was blocked from the inside by a pail - he was mopping the floor. Couldn't he have waited till the off-peak hours to do that?? Customer service and cornbread were enough for me to not recommend this restaurant.

NOT IMPRESSED…read more Stopped in for a quick lunch around 1:00 PM and I was extremely disappointed with the service and food quality. When I arrived, there were only a few other customers seated in the dining room. That should have been a RED flag, but I wanted to try the burgers while visiting New York. My wife had the Classic Burger topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, house sauce served with fries for $19.95 and I had the Smash-ology Burger with double smash burger patties topped with American cheese, red onion, lettuce tomato, smash-ology sauce on a potato bun served with fries for $19.95. First, the burgers are very small, lack flavor and there is nothing special about them. I've had a better tasting burger from Steak & Shack for a fraction of the cost. The fries were very cold and looked like they were sitting on a holding table for an extended period. I sent the fries back only to be served with more cold fries. Service was also lacking. When I complained about the cold fries, the server didn't seem to be pleased and was very hesitant to take them back. At a cost of more than $45 for two burgers and fries, I expected more.
