Arriving at the stroke of eleven, I was the first patron. Still, I was made to feel important, unique- that my experience mattered. Alex, the co-owner, was very anxious for my opinion of their goat curry (an amazing eleven out of ten). The keema pav, incendiary, was a new and positive dish for me, as was the garlic sauce chutney. Bombay Bistro would excel on the streets of Boston, hold its own in Manhattan. If there is a drawback, it's the location- blocked off this way and that to accommodate concerts on Bridge Street, one must be determined to find it. I am happy I was. We're visiting from Cleveland, Ohio, and after a day of seafood, we were ready for something different and decided to stop in for dinner. So glad we did! The samosas, butter chicken and tikka masala were all delicious, and the service was wonderful. The owner was so kind and welcoming, too. Highly recommend Bombay Bistro. read more

We were a group of 11 seniors meeting at Portland Maine for an annual reunion and decided to go for Indian Cuisine for lunch. We had seen good reviews about this restaurant. However, we were disappointed by the experience. The spice level was very high, although we had ordered "medium". Also, the Chicken Tikka Masala had 4 pieces of chicken and did not taste fresh made. One of our group member ordered Dahi Puri as Appetizer and it arrived after we were eating our main course. The only exception was Naan, which was well prepared. The ambiance was good. Great! We came for a celebratory dinner, and Bombay Bistro certainly delivered a celebratory, warm atmosphere. Aside from the great service, the food was excellent. We had great samosas, tikka masala, Indian pizza, chicken biryani. Food was perfectly cooked and flavorful. We also loved the Gajar Halwa and the Death by Chocolate. The drinks are also fun and tasty. Located in downtown Westbrook, this restaurant is a gem! It indoor seating, street seating, and a rooftop patio! The rooftop patio is a great place to watch the sunset over the river (very instagramable), or watch concerts in the summer (they occur weekly directly next to the patio and you can watch as you eat at Bombay Bistro). read more

The service was incredibly poor. They brought out the food all at Once and we asked if there was red dye in the food which we never got an answer as no one came back to even check on us after the food arrived. We asked for onions and green chilies which never came and no one ever came to ask if we received everything we ordered. The air conditioning shut down once the restaurant was closed even though we still were dining and it was horribly hot while we ate our entire meal. Lastly when they did ask for the check they didn't even bother to ask if everything was alright. Worst part abt all of it was we were served by the owner . Bombay Bistro is an absolute perfect addition to Westbrook. I knew I wanted to stop by since before they opened when word started going around about them taking over the space formerly occupied by The Frog & Turtle. The building inside and out received a refresh with green paint job. Inside is beautifully decorated with some bar seating along with plenty of tables with comfy yellow or green chairs. We showed up right as they reopened for dinner and got phenomenal service. Our sever explained some of her favorites and things she recommended trying and suggested to return for the lunch buffet to try more without ordering full dishes we don't know if we like them or not. She also went and asked about a specific dish and why it was classified under the nut allergy and we appreciated that! The menu does a great job of showing some possible allergen concerns and does well at splitting up dishes that have meat and those that don't. Drink wise we enjoyed a mocktail each (they don't serve alcohol) and would recommend giving them a try. Food wise I got Chicken Tikka Masala while my wife got the Chana Masala that was a chickpea based dish. It did end up having a bit more spice than my wife anticipated but ate a lot of it because how good the taste was. The Tikka Masala was incredible especially the sauce. We ended up swapping in the end as my wife enjoyed my dish a little more. The rice that came with our meals was great as well. To go with our dishes we also had Garlic Naan which you must order! Perfect addition to clean up any sauce from your entree. Lastly we finished our night with the chocolate lava cake dessert and it was decedent and delicious! To start the ambiance is great, there's nice lighting, an upstairs and down stairs. In the summer there will be seating outside on the rooftop which will be really nice! The color scheme is really enjoyable. The service is great so far, brand new restaurant so they are learning how to figure everything out and they are doing a great job so far. It's super super clean and they work at making it clean. Now to the food! We have come twice so far, once for the weekend buffet and once for a weekday buffet. Everything has been amazing! And we even came at the end of lunch and it still tasted great. They only do buffets for lunches and right now it's $18 on weekdays and $22 on week ends, BUT you get lamb and other more expensive foods on the weekends so it makes it worth it. The food in the buffets is always changing so there was nothing that was the same besides desert and white rice from our two visits. The flavors are wonderful and they bring you fresh hot naan when you do the buffet. My wife and I eat a ton of Indian food and we rank this as one of our favorites! (That's a high bar for us) We still need to try out the regular menu but we live close so we will be coming often! read more

We were seated immediately by a friendly host. The restaurant is nice inside, lots of green! It was Valentine's evening and our table had two tulips with greenery, nice gesture. Our server was kind and gave us ample time to peruse the menu. She did tell us right away it was a "dry" restaurant but pointed out the unique mocktails offered. My wife had a hibiscus ginger spritz which she enjoyed, I stuck with a Diet Coke. We ordered three apps and naan along with our mains. The kitchen clearly needs to work on timing. We waited a very long time for what should have been apps but they sent our entire meal out! I expressed surprise and another server said the kitchen just sent it out! I get they are new but that was sloppy service. Our meals were served in large bowls. Very aromatic and seemingly hot (mine was warm but the dish was hot like it had been microwaved). Rice accompanied each dish, my rice was dried out and pieces were hard...again an oversight that was disappointing. I will give props for flavor but the service and kitchen need to sync up and get a rhythm. Being relatively new, we get it and I would expect that it will iron out. We certainly will give it a second try after some time has passed. read more

Absolutely love Bombay Bistro. The space is beautiful and the food is delicious. Definitely the best Indian cuisine available in Maine. At our recent visit we tried their pizza and it was excellent! The lamb and shrimp appetizers were so good. The saag paneer with burrata was the best I'd ever had. Don't skip the mocktails, they are made so expertly by the bar tender and offer unique combinations of complex flavors. The staff are friendly and attentive and make you feel very welcome. I tried the lunch buffet at a previous visit, and it was great. It was nice this visit to dive into the dinner menu. Can't wait to try new items on the next visit! read more

There is nothing I don't like about this place, The food is top notch, authentic Indian, the service is fabulous, the atmosphere is lively and lovely , the prices are reasonable and there's parking! I was a bit disappointed to hear that drinks were unavailable but when we arrived we learned that they had just been granted their liquor license. The cocktail that I ordered was a spicy tequila thing not far removed from a dry margarita--it was the bomb! I confess I missed, a bit, the tacky condiments that go along with naan at other places but that's a fault in me, not in them. read more

Went to visit Bombay Bistro for the first time. The service was wonderful and the food was amazing. My husband got the chicken saag and I got the chicken tiki masala. Along with a side of garlic naan which was delicious. The portion size is great & with a takeout of extra rice & naan, I was able to enjoy my meal for a second day! They do only have mocktails & am not sure if they will be adding any "frosty" beverages. I read it was a "dry" restaurant in a review but that was not relayed to us. I've been trying to find a great Indian food spot around Portland for a very long time, so when I heard a new restaurant was opening in Westbrook, I was beyond excited. Even with high expectations, my first visit completely blew me away. The food tastes incredibly authentic, fresh, and full of flavor. The atmosphere is inviting, the ambiance is beautiful, the staff is friendly and the whole place just feels welcoming from the moment you walk in.
