This is one of the best restaurants in Dover. Whether ordering lunch or dinner, the food is always fresh, delicious and seasoned to perfection! I'd love to name a favorite dish, but everything is just so good. Veggie pakoras, garlic naan, coconut raisin naan, saag paneer, aloo matar! We have been ordering for years and never been disappointed with Taste of India. Take out orders are very well packaged and still hot upon arriving home. This place is still great. It's like visiting your best friend or neighbor you like. Kind people who serve you and pay attention. We try something different most times, but also always have our standards. They have an appetizer sampler. It's worth a try. It's always cozy and never over crowded. Not great acoustics so tables that talk like they are at a football game, everyone can hear. But if those types are not dining at the same time as you, very quaint. We haven't had anything bad. Not only is the food delicious, the owners are very very kind people and always so friendly when we come here. The naan is amazing, the garlic naan and coconut and raisin ones are my favorite. So my boyfriend and I eat tons of Indian food, we've had it at several different places and probably eat it at least a couple times a month at this point. But I have to say, out of all the Indian restaurants we have been to, I think this one really takes the cake. Boyfriend got his usual chicken vindaloo, I got spiced up butter chicken, and we split some garlic naan. The food was amazing. On top of it being some of the best Indian food I've tasted thus far, the people here are great, very friendly, personable and down to earth people. I really hate writing this review. I tried them twice hoping that the first time was a fluke. But the food here just isn't good in my experience. Both times, the Korma had this off putting sourness to it and was very salty. The Tikka Masala wasn't very flavorful. The nan was dry. The meat was kind of tough. I eat A LOT of Indian food, and sadly this place just isn't it. The owners and those who work there seem lovely, which is why I wanted to give them a couple chances. Hopefully, my experiences are total outliers based on the other reviews. But I don't think I'll be getting food from here again. read more

I'm from the bay area in California. I've had a lot of really good Indian food and in fact, my partner is half Indian and I consider her to be the best Indian cook who's food I've ever tasted. But I must say, then Taste of India in Dover was a giant surprise to me. Now granted, this is the only Indian restaurant in town and you might think that quality suffers because they know they have a corner on the market but that is not the case. Having talked to the owner and his daughter, they've been in business for 28 years and it's obvious why. They make great Indian food! If you live in or around Dover and you're willing to challenge your taste buds and dine what may be considered in this area outside of the box, go to Taste of India to try authentic Indian food served hot and fresh, to your request, and on time. Tikka Masala didn't taste like Indian food. I've tried them twice thinking that it may have been an off day. Their was no typical Indian spice favor. It tasted like tomato purée on top of chicken and rice. I would not recommend this place. I will drive an extra 20 minutes to get Indian food based on this poor quality. read more

Years ago, I ate here and ordered from the menu. I enjoyed the food that time. This time around we opted for the Sunday buffet and that was a mistake. The offerings are sparse and the one curry dish with chicken was surprisingly devoid of flavor or seasoning. It was watery with absolutely no flavor. In fact all the dishes sampled were seasoning free. Not good. The naan, normally a delicious Indian staple, was cooked far in advance and held subsequently making it stale and gummy. Perhaps an Indian buffet is not something that can be done well. I'm not sure. What I do know is that it wasn't done well here. The service was adequate but not super friendly. read more

Taste of India is our go-to when we decide to order out. The portions are generous and the food is delicious! We always order the vegetable biryani and chicken curry with a side of naan and samosas. Sometimes we treat ourselves to the mango lassi, but the one thing I look forward to when ordering is the complimentary kheer. After trying it for the first time, I could not get enough. I tried the 16.95$ fishcurry with extra garlic naan bread. The sauce was good. The fish messed it al up. It was a stinky fishy taste. The fish was not cooked with the curry so it was just fish added to the sauce. The wrong fish was used. Fried makrel instead of tilapia. The dish was incompatible. The garlic naan bread was not realy garlic but just burned naan bread that you can buy at the Aldi supermarket. Maybe other dishes are good. read more

Our to-go order filled a big box with plastic tubs and foil wraps, so it was thrilling when practically every choice pleased almost every eater. From chicken to chickpea and from saag to naan, Taste of India didn't miss the mark. There was plenty to go around, so when something didn't match a personal preference, someone else was ready to swoop in. Being originally from the UK, it's hard to find a good Indian food restaurant over here in the US. Taste of India however is one of the exceptions, their food is excellent, made to order however you like your spice level and the service is wonderful! The owner always makes a point to talk to my daughter when she's home from college and give her a special treat, usually dessert. It's her favorite place and it's her one go to when she's home for her chicken tikka marsala. She's also a huge fan of the potato tikki and their garlic naan bread. My personal favorite is a shrimp marsala and my only wish is they made onion bhajis. We've also occasionally eaten at their Sunday buffet and whilst the selection is small, it is good and appropriate for the size of the establishment and fresh and delicious. Are you kidding me? I was surprised on my to-go order. I ordered baigan bharta and onion kulcha, owner said the order will be ready in 15-20 minutes and sure it was. Here is what was included as a courtesy: -Kheer (never seen anyone giving it for free) -Papad (rarely included for free) -Onion chutney (never had it before) -Green chutney (never seen it for free) -Rice (usually it's included) And of course the actual order. We happened to go on Diwali, a day of celebration in India, and they gave us a free cup of rice pudding that was so good, flavored with cardamom. I love this place!! Our family has been coming here for years and we will continue to be faithful patrons. You simply can't go wrong with anything you order; the naan is so yummy and delicious, especially when dipped in that outrageous Raita. If you do decide to throw caution to the wind, go for broke, break all dietary boundaries of deliciousness and go for the Raisin and Coconut Naan, DO NOT USE THE RAITA as it is an insult to the R&C Naan; just that naan alone will make you taste buds cry with happiness. I'm actually thinking of bringing it to my next Thanksgiving get together at my parent's house. Since some of us stopped drinking, this may be the key to a peaceful holiday...I'll keep you updated. :-) The coconut soup is so comforting and it simply make me happy, the same goes for the Saag Paneer; it's my new idea of comfort food. When I crave Indian food (and I do, often) I drive to Bedford, Massachusetts for a specific restaurant. Taste of India, I have eaten there, twice. Not impressed. I know great Indian food! There is a fabulous!!, Indian restaurant in Paris, France, oh my gosh! I'll write that review, another time. Outstanding! I tried the buffet @ Taste of India, not impressed. Many of the foods on the buffet were cold & soupy. No much attention paid to spicing levels, or nice ingredients. I LOVE Chicken Vindaloo, Saag (spinach) Paneer (cheese), Raita , similar to Tatzaiki. But usually, not as thick as Tatzaiki). Fresh yoghurt, diced cucumber & mint, garlic or not and spices) . Served cold with HOT Naan. So wonderful, usually. Not so much here in Taste of India. I love CURRIES: Red, Green , Yellow. YUMMO! Perhaps, I visited too early or too late I can give them anther try, some time or just drive to Bedford, Mass., where the Indian food is simply, stellar! read more
