I came to this place after a really really longgg time, because although they have a lot of variety (chaats, sandwiches, desserts, Indian snacks, etc.), very few items are actually worth trying. Reasons why I avoid this place when I crave for Indian snacks: - Very pricey for the quality of food they serve - Not authentic "Chaat" flavors - Very slow service - They do not pay attention to the orders [apparently, spicy= sweet :/ ] - Ambiance not good - Not a multi- culture friendly place (No way for non-Indian to figure out things) The last time I visited, I had tried the following items: 1. Vada Pav (Maharashtrian snack): Flavor was pretty good, could have been more authentic 2. Pav Bhaji (Maharashtrian snack): Tasted like tomato paste with some spices, not at all good 3. Masala dosa (South Indian snack): Very good flavors and spices 4. Dabeli (Maharashtrian snack): Good but again could have been more authentic Today I ordered "Samosa chaat": (BIGGEST mistake..read the last 3 lines for quick review) Let me tell you how they treat their customers...There are two counters, on one counter the girl (staff) was taking phone orders or something and this is where I was standing and staring at her face wondering when she would take my order. On the other counter there was another girl who was waiting for a customer to place order. After the customer finished paying, the girl raised her eyebrows which made me realize she is asking me what I wanted. So I moved to the other counter and asked her "with actual words": Do I place the order here?? And she said "Yes!" Oh..the girl can talk.. LOL. I ordered samosa chaat and grabbed a seat. After waiting for 10 minutes, I went back to the counter to ask if someone is making chaat or not. The reason I did this was because, I could see the chaat counter in front of me and no one was working on it. It was pissing me off, because trust me a 14 year old could prepare chaat in less than 5 minutes. Finally, I got my samosa chaat, which looked like the samosa was beaten to death and all it's insides (potato+ peas) were spilling out and someone had covered it with other stuff (gravy+sev+crushed puri) to hide the body (We are still talking about the samosa). This was my first visit to Bombay Chowpatty. They have a LOT of options for street food (primarily north/central Indian style). I would stick with North/central Indian style food (and not venture into South Indian food) as that seemed like their core competency. The reason I am giving a three star rating is because the items we tried were a hit and miss. So, I wanna give them a benefit of doubts of sorts and still wanna try other items they have to offer, in my visits to come, before I come to a final verdict. We tried the following items - 1) Veg Cheese club sandwich with potatoes and toasted - It was good. 2) Samosa Pav - I found it decent. My wife didn't like. So I guess average rating is okay. 3) Ragada Masala Chat - Not good 4) Pani Puri - I found it okay, my wife liked it. So I guess average rating is decent. 5) Masala Soda - Not good. At best it was Soda with some ready to use pani puri or jaljeera Masala in it. The staff was good, courteous and well trained. The lady at the reception was sweet and explained certain things to us. She also gave us a good recommendation of club sandwich. The ambience and atmosphere is casual. One of the best street food places in DFW area. There are individual sections for Pani Puri, Dosa center, Sandwiches etc., I particularly love their Double Paneer Club and Masala Chaas. The only downside is that some stuffings for their sandwiches are pre made at the beginning of the day, which means its a pre-defined spice level. Overall ambience is really like a jam packed place, where servers are shouting with the order numbers that are ready. Over a period of time it really felt like a Mumbai Flea Market. Perhaps they wanted us to get that feel, but that was bit not of my taste. That said, 3 stars because of the taste of the food ###Tried Paani Poori - Below average, you get better at Taj Chaat House Pav Bhaji - Okayish Sev Poori - Better item from what we ordered Ice Goola - Its not Goola. Goola is supposed to be a ball of crushed ice. This is just a crushed ice with syrup handed out in a cup. Vwry bad customer service: the owners dont listen when we say the food is spoilt or tastes bad. Today was a second bad experience. The veg cheeze puff literally had the stuffing burnt and turned black. They started giving all justifications when you could see that right in front of your eyes. Few weeks ago we along with some other customer complained about the pav bhaji, Mr Kunjesh never listened and started taking new orders and told nothing can go wrong with their pavbhaji. We decided to try this place after our long flight from Europe. Of course, having gotten only pasta on a sad AA flight, we were craving some good food. This place claims to have authentic Mumbai style chaat, but leaves much to be desired. We tried the pav bhaji, frankie, bhel puri and grill sandwich. We found the pav bhaji to be quite hot, which is not how it's made on Mumbai streets, it's more buttery and tangy. The Frankie was quite opposite to what you get in Mumbai, this was more of a potato roll inside a tortilla. Mumbai street Frankie is a stretchy, flaky refined flour roti with a potato filling, signature tangy orange spice and a sharp vinegar tang. The bhel was also too hot; people tend to assume that Indian food is hot, it's not supposed to be - spicy does not mean hot. The grill sandwich had way too much cheese. Also, the styrofoam utensils and self service was not impressive. I was visiting from out of town. I ordered my food with Rosena. I ordered masala omelette with paranta. She decided to order egg curry for with paranta. Website showed hours of operation until 9:30 and when I went to order my desert at 8:45 she informed me that they were closed as they needed to clean their kitchen. I can mainly speak to their pani puri and I really, really love it! Apologies in advance for butchering the ingredients but I think it's about $4 for the puris, chickpea/potato stuffing, lentil, tamarind chutney, and pani. The puris are always crispy and all the flavors come together perfectly. There is a kick to it but it doesn't keep your mouth burning. We got the cheese dosa once and it was massive and very cheesy; a bit on the greasy side, but delicious. We also like the double paneer sandwich that comes with chips. The sandwich has a ton of flavor but is certainly not a light meal. I'm excited to try some of their other delights but the menu can be overwhelming if you're not familiar with all the different types of items. They people working there have always been friendly and are more than willing to help! Pani puri is a can't miss and something we'll order every time. Being a hardcore Bombay person, I wanted to try this place irrespective of the few bad reviews I saw on Yelp. I gotta say that after tasting about 8 dishes and 3 drinks between me and my wife, I truly felt like I was at Bombay Chowpatty in India enjoying my favorite street food! Anyone who loves Bombay street food has to eat at this place. I tried chutney dosa, pav bhaji, vada pav, misal pav, veg cheese club sandwich, dahi batata puri, pani puri and Frankie. Don't order the Frankie but other than that everything else was exquisite. The owner was a very friendly guy and the ladies working there were very polite. They do need to improve their ordering system by keeping pagers instead of calling out numbers. But if you go on a night thats less busy, you shouldn't be disappointed. read more

I recently went in here as I had heard amazing things about this restaurant. Specially from friends who are from other cities and have visited Dallas. Hence I tried in a few items right away to check how this one fares in my book. Verdict - total failure Items ordered and their reviews Vada Pav - Okay to good (only reason why I have given 2 stars above) The Vada was okay but not great as compared to the Indian standards. Considering a world far away from India this was good and I would say I can go back for this but would rethink too. Misal Pav - Bad. Misal Pav is one of the fav dishes in Maharashtra along with the Vada Pav and hence I ordered these 2 to base my reviews. I was highly disappointed by the Misal Pav that was served. The original Misal Pav should have the misal which is primarily "mothbeans" based. There is a trend of using "dried white peas" near the coastal areas of Maharashtra but it still has to have "mothbeans". This misal served lacked any mothbeans. It was overcooked with normal spices instead of the misal spices I felt. Another things is the "farsan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farsan_%28food%29" was not used, instead only "gathiya" were served on the side. The regular Misal always has the farsan and freshly chopped onions mixed rather than served on the side (which I guess is understandable since people might not want it mixed) But if you are potraying it as misal, it should be mixed. Egg Kheema - Was Okay. Too much spice killed the taste of the egg in there. Less salt which can be ignored. Masala Soda - Too much of Jaljeera and Chaat powder in there. I would not recommend unless you are a fan of Jaljeera. The name "Bombay Chowpatty" is like total opposite to what the food is. Chowpatty comes from "Giragaon Chowpatty" in Mumbai/Bombay which is a beach and has amazing street food stalls with some mouth watering foods. I would say the food doesn't do any justice to the name. I would try this again sometime for other foods and see if they are anywhere near to good. Ambiance wise it is okay. Not much seating but will do for probably around 20 odd people. read more

Pretty good street food place in Dallas but mostly crowded on weekends. It will take you atleast 10-15 minutes to find table for a group of 3 or more. You get ample variety from pani puri to vada pau, kathi rolls, dosa, etc. For me the palate catcher was kala khatta and vada pau. First off, I really liked the layout of this restaurant. Their cooking station is in the middle of the restaurant and all the tables are situated around it so that you can see exactly how they're making things and it keeps them accountable for being clean. I don't know why I have this irrational fear of Indian restaurants not being clean. Anyway, my friend and I decided to share plates so we ordered a variety of things to sample. We got the butter pav baji, vada pav, paneer frankie, masala dosa, and cheese paratha. To drink we got a mango lassi and sweet lassi. If this place wasn't so far away I'd come here just for the mango lassi even though it's slightly overpriced. I actually got a second mango lassi. Everything was really good but my favorite was the pav baji. I also really liked the paneer Frankie. I don't think I'd get the cheese paratha again just cause adding cheese doesn't really change the taste and the parathas already good on its own. Masala dosa was a good standard dosa too. Could've been a little crispier. I would recommend that you try it out during the day because by like 6 this place was crowded and there was barely any seating left. I went there again today, hoping that the quality would be different. Place is close to work, so wanted to give this place a second try... Alas, no change in result though. I ordered a gobi parantha and observed the making process. First problem is hygiene, the hispanic guy making the parantha was only wearing the plastic glove in one hand, but using both hands in prep. So there is a problem right there. As for the parantha itself, it was basically a dough cooked with oil over medium heat surface. Undoubtedly the worst parantha I have had in my entire life and believe me I've had some bad ones. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. Bombay Chowpatty is an unassuming Indian Cafe tucked in a strip mall, but it has some of the best Indian food I have ever had. Wow, this place is great! We were in Dallas for a convention, and we took a break to get something to eat. Our group settled on Indian, so we popped open the Yelp app to see what was around. Bombay Chowpatty sounded interesting and was nearby, so we hopped in the car and headed out. Before going here, I had eaten Indian at a handful of places and I thought I had an o.k. grasp on what I could expect with Indian food -- a few basic words for spinach, cauliflower, and okra, and experiences with saucy dishes to be put over rice. When I walked into Bombay Chowpatty, I could decipher the letters that made up the words on the menu board, but I recognized nearly none of the words. I only recognized paneer and samosa, and those were only on a very few items. Apparently, I am only somewhat familiar with Northern Indian, and Southern Indian is completely different. The friends I was with were a little more worldly than me and suggested a couple of dishes based on what they knew, but we were still a little in the dark. Still, we ordered a whole list of things and tested our luck. A couple of big pluses -- when we pulled up, nearly every person eating in the restaurant was Indian. It's a bit of a cliche that you can expect good and authentic ethnic cuisine at a place where you see people of that ethnicity eating, but I still took it as a good sign. Second, the decor is awesome -- the walls are covered with full-scale graphics of scenery and Indian movie posters. Visually it's quite busy, but it also says to me that these aren't folks who hare half-assing around Indian, but rather they are good casual Indian and are reminding a lot of folks of the places where they are from. Third, the kitchen is completely open -- the whole of the restaurant is a big rectangle in a strip-mall space, and the food prep and cooking area is an island directly in the center. And, when it comes to the food prep folks and the cooks, they work fast and they work hard. I swear the whole time we were the there the cooking area was awash in a flurry of activity, from chopping to mixing to griddling. Fourth, despite the extensive menu, everything is vegetarian, and you would not miss the absence of meat from all the variety and flavor that you can get. Our food came out, and and we ordered several dosa, which are like a giant crepes that have been filled with various savories. They were incredible, though they're comically large when you start, hanging over each side of the 10" tray by at least another 4" per side. Also, since I recognized "samosa" on the menu, I ordered one. It was somewhat similar to the stuffed fried dumpling I have had before, but it was also in a bowl with a hearty lentil soup over it. We had a bad experience of eating Shev Puri with stale potato. When we reported to owner, her answer was, she will not replace puri that we already ate. Comeon is this how a owner respond. If we do not eat, how do we know the taste. Very rude and unprofessional behavior of an owner/manager whoever she was. If we fall sick, we will report it to appropriate food authority. Tye Desi style of fast food has reached Dallas. It was me and two of my other friends who met for brunch there. We were really excited to get bites of local desi cuisines. We liked their masala dosa, pani puri and dahi puri. The vada pav was a over the top. But, were very disappointed by the much anticipated sugarcane juice.
