Ordered bun maska and it had smell of other masalas. Seems like butter knife was used to cut/ make other items in menu. Please use separate knife to apply butter on bun. read more

The worst Indian food I have had in SF/Bay Area. I ordered masala dosa and idli vada combo. Everything tasted stale, the dosa doesn't even look like dosa, look at the picture below!!!! The dosa was so hard that it was impossible to eat. The sambhar that came with the food had a ton of uncooked dal, seriously why open a restaurant when you are going to give half cooked food to people!??? Never ordering again, the price is ridiculous for this crap!! I would give ZERO stars if that was an option read more

Bombay Express - Indian Near Me - San Francisco, California

We ordered takeout from here on a Friday night and were very impressed! Excellent food, a smooth online ordering experience, fast preparation, and an efficient pickup process. My husband, toddler, and I shared the following dishes, and had plenty of leftovers. We truly enjoyed every single dish: 1) Palak chicken - amazing! Flavorful, yet not too rich; I absolutely loved this dish! 2) Gobi Manchurian - tasty, though be prepared for a good amount of heat 3) Aloo tiki chaat - great; the pomegranate in the dish was a nice touch 4) Hyderabadi chicken biriyani - delicious; expect some heat; if you have leftovers, expect it to be even spicier the next day 5) Dosa/vada combo, served with sambar - fresh and flavorful, with an excellent coconut chutney 6) Malabar paratha - rich and tasty 7) Naan - soft and fluffy The online ordering experience on their website was smooth and easy (the one thing that would have made it better was being able to pay by Apple Pay!). The food was ready fast - within 20 minutes of placing the order. The pick up experience was unique and efficient. The location seems to be one where multiple restaurants have takeout/delivery only operations. We received a text asking us to wait in the car until we got a notification stating our food was ready. The food was ready within a couple minutes of the promised time. Once I got the text saying the food was ready, I had to go inside, check in on an online kiosk, and then stand in a short line for pickup. The place generally felt Covid-safe, with masking and social distancing protocols being followed. We truly had a wonderful experience, and look forward to ordering from Bombay Express again! read more

We didn't realize this was one of those cloud kitchens, which is essentially a shared kitchen space built exclusively for delivery/take out, so the location was hard to find when we got there. You can only order online through UberEats, DoorDash etc so keep that in mind and order ahead - there aren't any menus or restaurant employees to assist at the location. We got a text message with an ETA for when the food will be ready for pickup and although it was 50 mins out, it was pretty accurate. There is a kiosk to check in when you get there and when the food is ready to go, you pick it up from the counter. We got to see the cool robot assistant bringing out the packaged food from the different restaurants at the location. Efficient. We got the kachori chaat and vada pav. The kachori chaat tasted authentic and was delicious. Just the right balance of spice, sourness and sweetness. The vada pav was pretty good but I have had better in the bay area. It tasted fresh but was missing the garlic/peanut and cilantro chutney that it usually comes with which complement it so well. Overall very pleased with the food, will return to taste their other menu items. read more

Bombay Express is one of the many "cloud kitchen" based restaurants that have opened up. Basically they operate out of a shared space and as such only do delivery and take out orders - no physical restaurant to eat in. The menu is pretty expansive, more so than most Indian restaurants. They have everything from chaat and other street food to various curries to dosas. I didn't try the south Indian food (dosas and so on) or the biriyanis but the other items were generally good. Pav bhaji: this was pretty disappointing. This is something I grew up eating and the bhaji just didn't have the slight sweetness (usually from dried mango powder) I'd expect and was also really much thinner in consistency. I also expected the pav (bread) to be grilled or something but it was just little rolls of bread that were cold. I'd skip this in the future probably since most of the other food was far better Gobi manchurian: basically fried cauliflower in sauce. It was pretty spicy so stay away if that's an issue. This was pretty enjoyable and it was really crispy despite being delivered Palak paneer: I liked this but it is definitely on the sweet side compared to every other time I've had this dish. It was basically like creamed spinach and paneer. The sweetness could be because they use both coconut and regular milk, not sure. I would get this again despite it being a bit different than I expected, and the sweetness went especially well on the side of the spicy gobi manchurian Chicken tikka masala: The menu says this would be orange but mine was actually brown and also much less creamy than I thought it would be. Not sure if I got the wrong item. Regardless the curry was pretty good. I didn't really care for the chicken pieces in it but the actual gravy was nice Naan and roti: The naan was a little different, perhaps they don't have a full tandoori oven as it tasted a bit more like what you'd make at home. Both the naan and roti were good and complimented the other dishes. Overall, I'd probably put Bombay Express between 3.5 and 4 stars. Some items were really good and others just okay. I would order from here again and probably try more of the menu read more

Saw this new restaurant on Uber Eats and decided to give it a shot! I ordered a Veggie Frankie and Vada Sambhar - Both were really good. Veggie Frankie which was more like a Veggie Indian Burrito was exceptionally tasty and quite filling! Medu Vada was perfectly crispy from outside and soft from inside. Sambhar was good, but the coconut chutney it came with is to die for!! Overall, loved the food, great quantity and packaging - will definitely order again! read more

I got a lamb biryani takeout. It is spicy as hell! I'm Chinese and have pretty high spice tolerance. But this just blows my mind - is this Indian or spicy Mexican??? Can't believe this is $20, not including the bunch of taxes and fees. So disappointed. read more

Ordered Samosas and Gobi Manchurian $25 including tip! Gobi Its a cloud kitchen restaurant! not prepared fresh. Gobi felt like somebody used refrigerated food, heated and packed it with a sauce! It was just horrible!! Samosa This is the first time i tasted any samosa this bad! same like above! Just the worst taste! It felt like eating cardboard! read more

The food was very meh... the Frankie was too saucy and the chicken was not very flavorful and lacked the spice profile expected in a Frankie. Unless you are desperate for Indian food in a pinch, suggest picking another option read more

For the ones who love quick street food this is the place. Vada Pav best I've had. Tikka omg tasty and lovely. Lassi lip smacking. Biryani and Currys basically I've tried all the items and all of the items are delicious. No indoor dining. Order online through delivery apps. Quick and Warm straight out the kitchen. read more

Ordered via Uber, prepared wrong order and did not deliver all items. Food quality was also bad. I am really wondering how the restaurant has received so many good reviews. Price is also very high for the quantity. read more

I order Indian food as much as I can and I decided to try a new place today. Bombay Express is my new favorite delivery spot and probably some of the tastiest Indian food In San Francisco. I got two entrées which came with rice and I ordered some garlic naan (Indian flat bread) to pair with the dish. The Delhi Butter Masala (Entrees), is great comfort food-- a wonderful creamy dish that makes you feel fuzzy and warm inside. Also, ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala (Entrees), which was similar to the Butter chicken, but had bell peppers which were cooked al dente for a nice crunchy texture (a must order). Last was the garlic naan which is a must with your dish. I can't wait to try more food from this place. I Will definitely be ordering from this place again in the near future. read more

Try this place we decided to try this place at 1:30 in the morning last night and all we can say is WOW!!! My sweetheart and I love Indian food and by far this is the most amazing Indian food I've ever had! We ordered a salad Salan - never had it before and I was impressed and plan to order again tonight! Tiki masala was perfect with the chicken breast cooked absolutely to the right point! We had some of the left overs for breakfast- palak was incredible! Best BEST Indian food !!! So glad we found you!!!!! CT & Herb read more

This is a decent indian spot in SF. Most other places are too oily, lots of heavy cream, bland. Bla bla, catered to non-indians. I am punjabi from the north and we like our food very flavorful and spicy. This is my go to place for papadi chat, samosa chat (only complaint - it's a bit on the dry side. They need more yogurt and chutney and i've asked them to add it both times and they didn't take my notes into consideration). ANDD believe it or not, i actually come here for the Masala dosa. IT'S GOOD!!! Very good. The sambar is sooo delicious. Better than udupi in SF. I look forward to trying other dishes. read more

This is my go to place when I want to have something Indian. I have ordered from here a couple of times and it's usually good. I would highly recommend the chana masala and malabar parantha from here. There Idly fries are just amazing and a gulab Jamun for the dessert won't hurt :) read more

This is one of the best Indian chaat i have had. They showed up on doordash and we ordered samosa, kachori chaat and chilly paneer. The paneer was really soft and the samosa was fresh and not refried. The kachori chaat was a great presentation. I think they can get really popular if they reduce their prices. Compared to chaat corner, they seemed a little on the higher price range. Cant wait to try more food from here read more

Pleasantly surprised. The food was on point and authentic Indian. Ordered through Doordash. I got the Masala dosa, and it was delicious! The coconut chutney and red chutney were incredible. They also included a large amount of tasty sambar. I also got the idlis, and they were pretty good but I wish they included more than 2 with each order. Vada pav was very good too. Will order again! Great for South Indian food as well as Mumbai food. read more

Best Chat in SF!! I've dined at or order from many Indian restaurants so far in the Bay Area but nothing beats "Kachori Chat" from Bombay Express. It's delicious and has authentic Indian flavors. One of the best restaurants to get your Indian food fix from. I also ordered Samosa and Vada Pav which were delicious. It's very rare that a restaurant would get every dish ordered right, and Bombay express did not disappoint. read more

The best Indian food I've ever had, bar- none! We took a chance on this place after seeing them on DoorDash about a week ago and are extremely grateful that we did! We have since ordered from them a total of three times this week and the meals have remained consistently excellent. We even brought them a bottle of Jameson as a token of appreciation when we picked up our last order. The owner and the chef are extremely pleasant people and, although they are "takeout" only, the food is top-notch Indian cuisine! read more

Ordered Vijayawada chicken biriyani, vada pav, paneer franky roll, paneer tikka masala, layered parata, rasmalai for dessert. I didn't even like a single item in the order. Not enough salt and spicy in biryani and tikka masala curry . In place of layered wheat parata they delivered malbar parata. They should name for "paneer franky roll" as "paneer burrito" .In "rasmalai" I just received Malai syrup only there suppose to have milk dumplings . Very bad quantity and quality in taste too much price( every thing is double as the normal price) . Very disappointing Indian food. read more
