My friend and I had the luncheon buffet today. Not usually a buffet fan, I enjoyed this because each of the dishes was labeled as to what they were so you could try small amounts of many different native dishes that you would otherwise not experience if ordering a traditional entree. The Tandoori Chicken was terrific as was the many rice dishes, curry chicken, and vegetables. There is a wonderful meat platter full of many different charred types of meat. The service was attentive and friendly. They brought us a basket of Naan and also a plate of a spicy potato samosa and explained how it was made. The deserts (especially the Indian Rice Pudding) was delish. So happy we have a new Indian Restaurant in Northampton! read more

I've eaten at Bombay Royale 7 or 8 times as I live locally. I've tried both their lunch buffet and dinners. In my opinion, they excel at their delicious sauces and I can also say their prices and customer service are good! The only negative is that they don't put as much meat or vegetables in their dishes as one might expect or hope. The food is very good though! One night, I was picking up a chicken dish for takeout and the owner apologized as he handed it to me because they had run low on chicken in my dish. He was kind enough to give me a $20 gift card. At home, the chicken dish had just over half the usual chicken, I appreciated that he'd done that, it was clear to me that he cares about his customers. read more

I heard this place was opening in town and was excited to try it out as I'm a huge fan of Indian food (and not particularly enamored by the other Indian options in town). I stopped in for (their buffet) lunch - on its opening day, no less - and was VERY impressed. I've had a lot of Indian buffet in NYC, so my standards are high, and Bombay Royale did not disappoint. The buffet included some very well executed classics (you could taste the smokey flavor of the tandoor oven on the tandoori chicken, and it was uncharacteristically juicy, too!) plus some original dishes that showed off the chef's skill and unique perspective on the cuisine. The seasonings were complex and well balanced and the heat level just right. A basket of hot, perfectly chewy and blistered naan was provided, as well. The staff was friendly and attentive while not at all obtrusive. Plus, the place was CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN. And for only $9.99, it's the best lunch deal in Noho (or anywhere else in the Valley, for that matter). Very highly recommended. read more

The restaurant is located at a very convenient location but apart from that there is nothing that it offers. The prices are expensive and the portion sizes are relatively smaller compared to other Indian restaurants. The food was intolerably spicy even for someone who enjoys spicy food. The worst part was the service. Everyone in the restaurant show a lot of attitude and there are different people serving you throughout your visit. I might give it another try for the buffet if I am around but never for dinner. read more

The owner sets the bar for hospitality. As long as they keep their standards high, they're going to do great. It would be nice if there was a special price for getting a buffet container to go. Recently visited Bombay Royale with friends on a cold Friday afternoon for their buffet. What a refreshing surprise it was when the Indian food tasted as authentic and wholesome as it did here. I have grown up in India and have found it next to impossible to find decent Indian food in the Pioneer Valley. The menu boasts an excellent selection of cuisine from both mainland and coastal India. I was impressed with the fresh quality of their food and lack of artificial seasoning, which one often finds at Indian restaurants. I really hope this place is around for good! Excellent dinner experience, well done all around. Our server was warm, contactful and friendly, with seemingly perfect timing. The food was rich in flavor and plentiful. The Chicken Ammwalla (Mango Chicken) was very good with large cubes of mango in it, however my partner's Goan Fish Curry (Salmon or Mahi Mahi with Fenugreek, fennel, mustard seeds, bell peppers and coconut) was the real standout with a deeply flavorful sauce. The Aloo Paratha (Potato bread) was very fresh and flavorful and excellent dipped in entree sauce of which there was also plenty. A tall and perfect Mango Lassi completed our meal. Delicious Indian food and good buffet spread. However, I called in 3 hours before to make a reservation for my colleagues and I for lunch. The lunch buffet starts at 12:00 pm and I made a reservation for 12:30 pm for 16 people. I understood that it was a big request for a restaurant that gets undoubtedly busy during the buffet hours. Thus, I asked multiple times if they were sure to reserve the spot for us. I was guaranteed that we will have a table waiting because that's the point of making a reservation. There is no twist to the story that we didn't have a table waiting for us. It was not before 30 minutes till we got a table. I do not mind waiting in any other situation, I understand that is how a lunch buffet works. All my colleagues and I are fairly patient individuals, however, there was no point in calling ahead and making a reservation. All of us would have appreciated a certain level of honesty. read more

The weekday lunch buffet is surely worth the $10 pricetag! I tend to skip breakfast so I can come try everything on the menu. They will also serve unlimited amounts of freshly baked naan with the buffet. They're my favourite Indian place in the valley, and that's hard to say because I am from India. I love how they can look beyond treating Northwestern Indian food as all you can serve. I personally get a lot more excited by the food from the South. The variety is pretty great, but I will say that I felt that they were doing a much better job in 2016 than they are now. Nowadays the different curries are slowly starting to taste like each other, and I really hope that doesn't continue because then there would be nothing to differentiate them from every other Indian restaurant in the U.S. One more thing that I wish weren't so is that the buffet has mostly bland options - which comes from someone who has a low heat tolerance! I know that can't be helped because hey, this is America, but I would really like more spicy options, or rather the ability to pick from a few heat levels for each item on the buffet. Surely they have enough customers to be able to cater to this request. Finally, I think they make their desserts too sweet, but otherwise I would be their biggest fan. read more

The lunch buffet is only $10 which includes two salads, multiple entree choices including vegan options, two desserts, and naan brought to your table. Review accounts for the poor service: my waiter appeared to forget I existed, which prompted me after 10 minutes to go to the counter to order, where I was chastised instead of receiving an apology. Plus, what restaurant charging nearly $20 an entree makes you wrap up your own leftovers? My incompetence at doing so ending up with practically a bowl of rice in the lap. We had dinner here recently on a busy Sat. night. We had reservations and were seated immediately. The food was nothing short of amazing. Everything was excellent, which about duplicates what most of the other reviews here say, so I don't' need to say any more. Dinner was a bit slow to come out, probably due to a very busy kitchen, but it was well worth the wait. Huge portions, enough for another meal. This place easily deserves a 5-star rating. WOW! I just came back from this restaurant, and am pleased to say that it very, VERY good! I went with a friend to lunch here, not realizing that lunch is served buffet style. I've had some horrible buffet meals before so I was on guard about this. It was terrific! The buffet was served in small pans, so that the food was rotated out quickly and wasn't sitting around getting all goopy and overcooked. There was a lovely selection of raw salad greens and veggies, several different condiments (wicked good mango chutney and lemon pickles!) and a varied selection of both meat based and vegetarian foods, all of them made fresh, and all of them with different and unique sauces and flavors. I grabbed a copy of the restaurantsr menu and am pleased to see not only meat and vegetarian selections, but a big selection of vegan meals. And they make Lunch Boxes too!!! The lunch buffet was very reasonably priced and the dinner menu goes from reasonable to expensive, depending on what you order. I am looking forward to trying dinner here and soon! read more

Went here on a Saturday night and waited about half an hour for a table but boy was it worth it. The food was great and reasonably priced, but the service was outstanding!! They modified items on the menu to our preference, were quick with refilling water and bringing out appetizers, and they handled our split bills like champs. All with a smile on their face. Really love this restaurant. The food is authentic, delicious, and generous (and not greasy). The flavors are done well and the staff courteous and friendly. The all work hard and seem to take pride in the food and service. You can certainly get it as spicy as you like, and just ask the server for recommendations. I think we have tried most things on the menu now and often go back for favorites...like the lamb chops, and eggplant dishes. The vegetarian dal is also great. read more

We have visited this place several times, but some time one experience kills the rest. Today, we (me, my husband and my 5 yr old son) went there for dinner and ordered mango lassi, madras tiffin (dhosa, idly, sambar bara), chichek tandoori and chicken naan. I guess they felt that we did not order enough--first they did not bring papad which they give complimentary to everyone, then they made us wait for more than one hour when everyone else in the restaurant was eating, they did not even bring us plates. We asked after waiting for an hour what is happening, then after another fifteen minutes, they brought us our order--dhosa was strikingly bad, so was the sambar and daal--none of them were fresh and I could not eat anything. After that, they did not bring us the hot towel that they give everyone at the end of the dinner. It goes beyond me when I see such behavior! We used to be their regular customer, and we never again will return to this place. read more

Bombay Royale is hands down the best restaurant in Northampton and the greater five college area. Since it opened, I have regularly eaten here at least twice a week and have never been disappointed by the food or service. This past weekend, my wife and I held a pre-wedding day dinner and invited 45 friends including friends from India. The food and service was exquisite. As an Indian that has been in the US for 9 years, I can say without a doubt that the food that evening was the best Indian food I've eaten in the United States. Vince, Sam, and all the staff are extremely polite, accommodating, and professional. My wife and I can't recommend this restaurant enough. Do check it out whether it's for the lunch buffet (so reasonably priced) or dinner- you will not be disappointed!
