The clientele seemed to be pretty ghetto, and the workers seem to be pretty used to it. That said, the food was out in abundance and it honestly tasted pretty good. I stayed away from things that I knew would be notoriously salty but for the most part, they were a lot of choices there for someone like me with blood pressure issues. Every now and again you need to be reminded why Golden Corral is not a good idea. It's been probably over 15 years I don't go to a GC but we had dropped off my dad's car to get an oil change, and it was going to be a while, so we walked over to the only place in the area that had breakfast which was GC. Having read the other reviews I have to agree that the place has a grimey feeling to it. A feeling like the entire restaurant needs to be pressure washed and the carpets ripped off and replaced. The workers were super friendly, but there was some definite disorganization amongst them. I was waiting a good 15 minutes before they could decide who was going to be at the omelette station. I laughed cause one of them picked up a broom and was like: "I did it yesterday, it's so and so's turn today." Then there's the quality of food which is basically bare minimum - the cheapest possible available and it shows in taste and appearance. At least... at least the coffee was decent which was a pleasant surprise, and the omelette was actually pretty good and that's pretty much all I would have from there. I wish there would be more fresh fruit. The cinnamon rolls - very obviously from a can. The gravy for biscuits obviously from a pouch that had water added, heated and served. You see what I mean? like its all quantity not quality. Which I guess you can't expect much more when its 13.99 per person. Maybe it's because it was morning, but we found the bathrooms to be clean which was a pleasant surprise. My parents and I haven't been to this location in quite some time and wanted to change up our dinner options, so we went here. The servers were attentive and super kind, always checking in on us and I even noticed how other servers were making conversation with customers, making them welcome. The food I got was good, however not everything was a bit as some items like my chicken and steak weren't fully cooked in spots, and did not have much in terms of flavor. However, considering a buffet constantly makes food in bulk for everyone, it would be foolish to expect everything to be perfect. For a big group or family, this is perfect but if I think with how small my family is, we would probably just go to another restaurant. I went to this restaurant about a week ago. While this restaurant would never be considered high cuisine. It isn't that bad of a place. The staff seem friendly from the area where you pay to get in; to the attendants that take care of your empty plates and keep your soda cup full. Again, this is no high-end restaurant and anyone that expects it to be for this price, needs to get real. The food here is good for the price it's fresh and well laid out. There is a great variety of types of food that is served. There is Mexican food there is Italian food and there is just regular American food. And while others have said, otherwise, I visited the restroom and found it acceptable. So for those who want to fill up on fairly good food like you would have at home this is the place. The actual buffet food is so good that if you've been here, then you'll wanna come back soon. There are options on how the steaks are cooked here so that anytime you want a steak from Golden Corral, then you can ask whichever steak you want cooked in (rare, medium, well done, etc.). The salad bar looks so good too! There's food options that aren't found at another buffet I've gone to (Hibachi in Manchester, CT) like fried okra, fried liver, steak, and more. They also have a selection of Thanksgiving side dishes available to patrons seeking a Thanksgiving style buffet throughout the month of November including Stuffing and Sweet Potato Casserole. They even serve a birthday dessert dish for those who go here on their actual birthdays. I was served a red velvet cake with frosting on it for my birthday here. The plates are always sanitized before they're served. The staff are awesome, and I am pleased about their courtesy. That buffet overall is a wonderful experience! I went there the first Sunday of November 2023 for my birthday dinner with the whole family, trekking up 40 minutes north of my place in CT. I am pleased about food options, employees and a whole lot more that you can think of. Considering it is the only actual buffet for miles despite no highway access nearby (although it is on the state route with a mall and other plazas nearby), Golden Corral is not only Springfield's premier buffet, it is also the buffet capital Western Mass. I use to go here often and the food was good. I went here on 10/25/24 and the food was lacking. The collard greens had so many big stems in them, some of the food was bland, the ice cream tastw funny, and the selection wasn't that great. Definitely not the Golden Corral I remember. They hadn't even start cooking any steaks yet and me and familyngot there after 3pm. The friend chicken was the best for me. To top it all off, the bathrooms were DISGUSTING. Nothing worse than going to a reaturant and the bathroom is nasty and you can't go because they're filthy. Pooped splashed all in the toilets. Well I haven't been to Golden Corral in years, so my son and I came here since my husband is at work and won't be back for awhile. We checked in, paid for our food and sat. My son went and got his food first and I went next. It was really crowded here, but everyone was nice and got their food really fast. Next, our waitress Yanica came and greeted us. I asked her how would I give her a tip if there is no place on the receipt? She said I would have to go to the cashier and use you credit card again or if I have cash, I can give it to her. Well I very rarely use cash, so since I paid for the food, my son paid her tip. I really don't like that idea. Why would a restaurant make you use your card twice? Than I was really upset. My son knows that I use plastic forks and knives at restaurants, so as I was getting my food, he went and got the money for the tip and also had to pay for plastic. I was furious. Why would you have to pay $.50 for plastic? My son didn't tell me until we were leaving. That is insane. I would never pay for plastic anywhere. There is a Walgreens across the street and I would've went there and purchased a box of forks and spoons before I paid a restaurant that I just paid $40 to dine at. Last, the kids that were there was looking at the guys who were wearing the bird and the scooby doo costume. I was in questioned as well as to why? One of the kids asked her mom why was the man wearing ears? So that should let you know that he didn't have a full costume, he had on the costume showing his face. They were also cleaning plates and etc. If I had to do it all over again, I would stick to what I selected to eat. I'm not a big eater, so I ate one scoop of bourbon chicken, fried shrimp, steak that I barely touched, a salad, and mashed potatoes. I had a ice cream cone as we were leaving, but threw it in the trash. The food was seasoned pretty well, just didn't want to eat seconds. I also had fruit punch to drink. It was ok, but not great. I very rarely eat buffet food and I see why. When you see kids that get their food and start eating before they get to their seats with their hands. Or you see them eating corn and take the same hand they started licking and use the serving utensil to pick up other food, you just lose your appetite. Also when you see an adult sticking her head under the glass to get one of the cooks attention to bring out more food, you just don't want anymore. That person was literally talking over all the food in that area. Also, why would you have a hand sanitizer machine for people to use, but nothing is in there. Many people went to try including me to get some and nothing. They even told the lady they were out. Wow, really? Sad I'm a really picky person especially if I'm paying for my food and my family's. Today was my husband and my first time going back to the Golden Corral since Covid. I must say to me 'they are back'. When they first opened their doors as a new establishment their food was great... then not so great as time went on. But today everything was great and fresh and tasty. I am thinking they must have new cooks cause the food was tasty..... We really enjoyed it. We celebrated our 37th year anniversary there by having lunch. Was super excited to find a Golden Corral in New England, was hyping it up to my boyfriend after having gone to a couple in the south. Maybe I was young and naive to think that it was anything else that a glorified Hometown Buffet. This particular location had cotton candy as well which was a pleasant surprise but too much sugar for a dinner late at night. Wasn't too bad for dinner arriving around 5ish for a dinner for two. The line moved pretty fast grabbing a sweet tea and a water as we waited to be rung in and sat. We were sat at a small table and went to grab food while the waitress returned with some silverware. The selection of food had some southern comforts and seafood. Snagged a couple of fried jumbo shrimp with some mash potatoes and meatloaf. The food wasn't anything that wowed me but usually don't have them so was excited to gobble it up. For my second course, grabbed some clam chowder that I haven't had in so long and Chinese food. Again nothing more than filling my stomach. Decided to grab some nachos to treat myself and spotted the line for steak to be empty. Snagged a cut of steak that wasn't medium like I wanted but was juicy and tender. Golden Corral is a fun experience; a change up from the typical Chinese buffets that we all know but I will say that they have a niche when it comes to buffets. The waitress was attentive, occasionally checking in but I could see it in their eyes that they were tired of the crowds and wanted to call it a day. This is the only Golden Corral in New England so it's always a somewhat of a treat when we're able to come here, usually after Six Flags or The Big E. I have mixed feelings about my experience tonight... It has been probably 8 years since I last ate here so walking in was confusing and I came with newcomers so that didn't help out much. The cashier didn't seem to have enthusiasm and just proceeded to ask us what we wanted for drinks with cups already flipped up, assuming we actually knew how the process went... After we got our drinks we weren't told to wait and the cashier was assisting other customers that just walked in and so we just seated ourselves which caused a bit of a commotion between staff until the cashier ran after us saying "you guys are gonna get me in trouble!" I guess we're supposed to pay up front and then a server comes and checks our receipt at the table. Haha I mean how were we supposed to know? Anyways, this was only the beginning of a very unorganized experience.. The food itself was actually good, and well stocked, even 1 hour before close. I didn't expect a grand, casino buffet quality kind of dining experience but overall I'm pretty happy with the variety and how the food tastes. Of course there are some foods I would avoid because they weren't rotated or don't look as appetizing but the staff did a good job keeping things nice and tidied up. Some of the must try foods are the prime rib, Mac n cheese, fried okra, fried shrimp, fried catfish, and roast beef. The worst thing I've tried was the clam chowder which was so unusually gooey, perhaps because it was there all day? I wanted strawberry for the chocolate fondue but they were all mushy and discolored. I can't expect much coming at 9pm but I can imagine if everything was fresh out the kitchen, it'd be very good meal. When it came to leaving, I was unsure whether or not to tip! Do people tip here??? There was no option to tip using credit card and we don't really carry cash. We asked the server how we could tip and we were told to see one of the managers at the register so he can charge our card and handle it there. Long story short, it was a very confusing process, causing ruckus between the managers and cashiers about tipping with credit. I still don't even know if tipping here is the norm or not. Either way, cash should be carried at all times because of situations like this. All in all, Golden Corral is a good choice for groups when it comes to deciding on where to eat after Six Flags or Big E but if you're at the casino, stay there and definitely go for their buffet instead. There seems to be lots of confusion and miscommunication between staff members here and they did not make it simple to understand how it works for newcomers. Although the food was decent (I would not say good) the employees were extremely rude. I am a bigger girl and had gotten one plate of food then went up for ice cream. And in the midst of getting my ice cream I was informed that there were 3 people staying in the front where you pay staring and talking about me and how I looked. Not only is that not professional at all but also VERY discriminatory. Thankfully I live in New Hampshire where the Golden Corral is MUCH nicer and friendlier then this one. I can honestly say I will never come back here if this is how they treat every customer that is not as thin as they are. I would give 0 stars if I could.
