The food and sweets is absolutely terrible. This is not good authentic Indian food. The sweets are very hard. You should not have to use a knife to eat chum chum. The chat items are always good. Few of the displayed sweets stay fresh whenever you come. All north Indian hotels usually make very good paratha but it so happened the methi paratha that we ordered was just BLUNT and BLANK. Driving down hillcroft, this place wouldn't ever jump out and slap you in the face...but if you take the time to come here and eat you will NOT be disappointed. this is a vegetarian restaurant..and is some of the best indian food i have had in the city. The name was a little misleading for me cause i assumed it was a bakery when I was brought here for the first time months ago, but it offers an array of foods. I went here again last night and was as expected extremely pleased with their buffet. I can not tell you what I ate lol (as far as what they call it) but it was amazing...There are some resident dishes that I always get, and then some curries that they change out from time to time. And it always tastes exactly the same whenever I go which is hard for buffets to maintain. I picked up a plate with divisions reminiscent of a school cafeteria plate and loaded it with some saffron rice... some sort of yellow curry with potatoes cooked to perfection. a masala tofu dish with sauteed onions and bellpeppers that was absolutely divine. Also, one of my favorites a finely chopped/stewed spinach dish that is great to dip the flat bread in. The hustle and bustle in there can be a big much especially when you just got off work..and you have other languages, and peculiar food items being slung around but once you get your order in and paid for and sit down it's all worth it. I come here for the samosas that are about $1 a piece. It's great to buy for potlucks, as they are quite filling compared to spending over $2.50 a piece for empanadas elsewhere. I've only had the samosas here with the mango chutney, which is quite yummy with a nice kick to it. My dad and I also come here for their array of Indian sweets. Every time my fiance and I come to the area for our salsa lesson, I am tempted to drop in for some samosas!! Parking can be horrific.... as in 'Chinatown' horrific. read more

A bad experience on a funfilled new year eve. I ordered buffet because it had a good variety of food . Unfortunately fhe curris tasted very mediocre especially the paneer makhni and rajma. Both of them lacked the aroma of the Indian spices. Rajma tasted similar to beans cooked in tomato ketchup. It was indeed a dissappointing dinner. Dessert in the buffet had no luck. Possibly my favorite restaurant in the world. I always go for the buffet and have never been disappointed. Every dish is good, every time. They mix it up so you never know exactly what will be there, but there is always saag paneer, some kind of dal, and at least a few more you will definitely recognize. Bombay Sweets is a great option for Indian sweets, and I used to stop by all the time to get my fix of peda and halva and the occasional samosa. They have started a lunch buffet, and I was hopeful. This is my favorite vegetarian restaurant. The buffet price is right at $8.65. Fresh naan and puri are included upon request. The school trays make me feel like the kid in a candy store that I am. Bombay sweets is OK to satisfy a craving. They're not cheap so I was expecting the food to be up a notch. The dosa we ate was really good ... The vada was oily and just plain bad. Haven't tried the sweets so can't say anything about that. Wouldn't hurt trying it but I'd be prepared to leave with mixed feelings. read more

Good thing about this place is it is cheap buffet with decent variety. Food quality and taste is also cheap...so you get what you pay for :-) Not a very clean place. Naan is ok, not great. You never know if it is your naan or someone else's that you picked up from counter :P Still i like going there once in a while just when i feel like eating a cheap buffet. It's was last minute decision to go to Bombay Sweets, but it was worth it. Best place for the Indian Veg Buffet which is available whole day. The choices are nice and taste is fine. Usually there are not very good choices in the Indian Buffets. At least it has the value for the money paid... the buffet is $6.99 per person. We've been to a few of these places on hillcroft and ended up settling on Bombay Sweets. I wouldn't say its exceptionally better than its competition -- and I'm certainly not an expert in indian food -- but for us we liked the place. We'd usually get the buffet and gorge out for cheap, while laughing at the fools waiting in line at Baba Yegas next door to our old apartment.....but right before we left we discovered the Masala Plain Dosa. Very tasty also. The place reminds me of an old saying my buddy had of a restuarant - hot brown and lots of it. Maybe nothing more than that, but it was nice and comfy for us. read more

Sterling value. Went for dinner, got the $8 buffet. Heavily South Indian influence - including satvic dishes with no onion or garlic. I tried everything - twice - and found it all good or better. The saag paneer was mildly disappointing considering how brilliant some of the other dishes were, but it really wasn't bad at all. Could've used more fenugreek, I suppose, and perhaps some heat... and the chunks of paneer had perhaps stayed too long on the steam table... they'd become rather tough and rubbery. Nevertheless, i ate plenty of the saag paneer, too, because despite it being the weakest dish on the buffet, it was still pretty darn good - quibbles aside. get a mango, sweet, or salt lassi. i only had the mango, but it was great - and i bet the other lassi are excellent. read more

This place is actually a solid 3.5. Here is why: The buffet is fresh, overflowing and well stocked. The place is packed with people at all hours during the weekend. The food is pretty good and like all buffets not that great and (unfortunately) not at all spicy. The made to order stuff is somewhat better but again for Houston I expect WAY better. The sweets and snacks are fresh and deserving of 4 starts - for the most part fairly good. They have the best yellow Jeelebi's. Bottom line is they seem to be quite crowded so you can expect most of everything to be at least fresh and not been sitting on the shelf for months. read more

The food varieties and options available are mind boggling. Although they have a whole area for sweets, most of them are not fresh - atleast the 5 varieties of bengal sweets that we tried were not. The sweet para and savory para were a bit oily. The samosa chaat and the Raj Kachori chaat were delicious. Great atmosphere and the food is soo cheap. The buffet is $6.99 I think. The buffet is fresh and they are always switching up the menu there. Such good value. They have around 12 different choicesin the hot bar, which always includes a couple of desserts and two rice choices. The cold section is another dessert, some chutneys and a salad. The naan is made fresh for each patron(just pay attention or they'll give yours to someone else and you'll wait forever for some bread).
