Unbelievable experience and hospitality, so we were visiting Houston, and after dinner decided to have some chai Shai, meetha sheeta, and gup shup masti wasti. We got there around 8:30 and saw dim lights, wondered if they were still open, and went to the counter. There were only two families, hardly 6 people, and the person behind the counter said, of course, no greeting sheeting . She said (loudly) We have only chai and I said I hope so because we came for chai. Since we have never been there, we have no clue what else they serve there. Since we had dinner, we came for only chai or dessert. We ordered 3 chai (different kinds) and started reading their menu after paying them, of course. We liked the menu and told each other we should return for food next time. During that time, one family gets up and leaves without having anything. We said oh well, let's wait for the chai and told our friend, who is Canadian, how our culture is kind of based on hospitality chai. We ask guests if they don't want to eat still you must have chai. Chai is our connection and to learn about each other. Almost 15 or 20 minutes later, chai came, and I asked her if sugar was available. She pointed towards the entrance. "Sugar is over there." So I got up to pick up Cheeni Sheeni, and as soon I returned, the same person said it was 9 0 o'clock and we were closing. I asked, Are you serious? We just got our order. I looked around. One family was still eating food, but she said I have to close the door. It's 9 PM, and we don't get paid for extra time. Oh, she wants us to leave with our chai. I said may I use your sugar? She said yes. Honestly, I have never seen this kind of attitude, and I understand, that it's the owner's fault who doesn't appreciate their workers, and they don't care if a customer left happy or not. We picked up our chai Shai cups and went outside. We decided to drink in the car, but unfortunately, the chai was horrible. So, two of us throw our cups in the trash. It was hot water without flavor. Meanwhile, we apologized to our friend that that's not how our culture or hospitality is, just bad management. We are in the retail business, and once a customer walks in 30 minutes before, we don't ask them to leave the store. I was totally in a fun vacation mood. All I wanted was a good karak chai, some meetha. So are we planning to go back? What do you think? read more

We came here with friends because they recommended this place and I'm happy to report that this is a really nice change from all the Hillcroft halal cafes. They have a nice selection of street food like chaats and paratha rolls mixed in with sandwiches/burgers and a few entrees. I had the club sandwich which was actually pretty good. Was not impressed with the Nihari because it was just too spicy. The parathas and hunter beef sandwiches were good. With a name like chai shai, you have to nail the chai which they did! read more

Amazing eastern fast food cafe!! The man behind the counter was super friendly and acted like He was genuinely pleased that I was there. As a "typical 40yr old white man" I sometimes get odd looks when I venture of the beaten path to enjoy something new, either by the partitioner or other patrons. I immediately felt welcome, by the staff and everyone there. I ordered 2 veg samosas, one beef pastry and one chicken pastry, an order of mixed chat, and some type of Indian quesadilla. The man smiled kindly and told me I was ordering to much food, and when I told him I wasn't scared and that "I might not look like it but I can eat" he laughed. EVERYTHING WAS WONDERFUL!!! My favorite was the beef and chicken pastries!! Flaky and amazing!!! Can't wait to bring my wife so she can give them another 5 stars! Awesome place!! My friend and I were excited to try out this new place that had a promising menu, but we were left a little disappointed. Unfortunately this place is not a standout in the vast and varied world of Desi (South Asian) food in Houston. The restaurant is more a quick cafe, located inside a grocery store, with decent snack items. We ordered the Karachi hunter beef burger and the bun kabab. The hunter beef burger isn't really a burger, but a sandwich made with shredded beef and jalapeños. It was tasty but not great, though it is touted as their menu favorite. The bun kabab was really disappointing-- a small, dry patty of meat (looked like chicken) on a bun. There was not much chutney or onions on top. The meat itself did not taste seasoned, and it seemed they had just sprinkled some chaat masala on top of the cooked patty. Big thumbs down. We also ordered french fries which were okay. The special pathani dood patti (a type of tea with milk) lacked flavor and depth-- also disappointing. The service was extremely slow. We placed our order at the counter, but the woman taking down our order took literally about ten minutes to put it into the system. She blamed it on their computer system. Then, when I tried to pay by credit card, the transaction wouldn't go through and it became a long ordeal. The manager came by and apologized and blamed the Internet connection. While the employees were very nice, the service was slow and inefficient. We were lucky that there was no one in line ahead of us, otherwise it would have taken much longer. There are so many wonderful desi restaurants in Houston, that based on my experience at this restaurant, I cannot recommend trying it over the others in the area. FYI-- There are only about eight tables, so might be hard to find a place to eat in if the restaurant is busy. read more

A one stop Karachi style snacks fast food restaurant. Reason to give 5 is staff, cleanliness, quality of food, innovation, service and after sale service. I am one their forest customer when they open and both the owners still remember us and invited us in their one year anniversary. Food is delicious and healthy, they know how to use ingredients. The only thing is they close at 9 pm or they have to because inside a supermarket that closes at 9. But a must visit Houston eating place. read more

I'm an absolute soup person, love ordering soup at restaurants and their chicken corn soup was so good!! The chicken was shredded fine just the way I like and didn't taste watered down the way sometimes soup does. It also arrived piping hot and tasted fresh! will come back for this in the winter. I also had a zinger w masala fries. The fries had perfect amount of masala taste and the Zinger was HUGE and pretty tasty, it wasn't greasy but i would say there's too much lettuce. Overall I will be coming back to try more menu items like the coffee shake, Chaat, and butter chicken. read more

Sadly the quality of food has gone downhill since this location opened. We were regulars but have felt the service and now food is not up to par. Attached some photos of cheeseburgers which were clearly requested to be "well done". Obviously none were cooked thoroughly and my house guest is vomiting due to this. Will take it up with the owner as the manager on duty explained that meat like this is still safe to eat because it is cooked to an internal temperature. He was missing the point that burgers are uncooked and I had asked specifically that it be well done. It's a fantastic idea executed fairly well, appealing to the brown crowd's sentimentality of being back home, walking down the street to your neighborhood bazar and having a beef bun kabab with Kashmiri tea with a samosa chaat on the side with all the fixins. I did NOT care for the beef roll at all. The paratha was great but I had to take everything out of it. The samosa chaat is absolutely amazing! The bun kabab sandwich was also amazing! I love that they have yelp's eat24 ordering system. Made it breeze to order, track and pickup. Well worth a try if you wanna see what Pakistani street food is all about. Next on my list is the Hunter Beef sandwich. It's very easy to mess up so I'm curious to see how they do it. Now since it was my first time at this spot which is located inside world food market I took the advice of that pretty lady behind the counter and ordered Zinger Burger with Masala fries along with mix fruit juice. This place has great Pakistani snacks. I tried their hunter beef burger Karachi style, chicken papdi chaat and mix chaat. Everything was delicious. I highly recommend the hunter beef burger. The sitting area leaves a lot to be desired because it's in the middle of a grocery store. I hope they drum up enough business to open up their own store front. read more

So after hearing a lot of hype about this place I decided to come check it out. Clearly the staff could not handle the extra business. They ran out of their top two signature dishes. Chai was ordered at a separate occasion. It took 35 minutes for our order to come out. I get it. It is freshly made. They arrogantly placed a sign already letting you know that food can take 25 minutes to be ready. But come on. Burger- It was good. Not spectacular. Fries- This was even better. Crispy and spicy. Hunter beef burger- maybe I got a bad one. Flavor was okay. But there was pieces of paper in the burger. I was disappointed. Chai- So upon ordering I was told that chai was not ready and it would be 10 minutes. I explained that I was in a hurry and would come another day. The lady at the counter asked me to wait and produced a cup of tea. It was the leftover, bottom of the barrel tea. It was cold, tasted like soap (probably because of too much baking soda) and cost me $3 for a tiny foam cup. I was pissed. I could have come another day for this tea. A different day when the tea would be fresh. I was so looking forward to being able to drink Kashmiri chai that I didn't have to make. Instead I got a cup of yuck. Totally turned me off this place. It's a cute concept. A tea and snack shop inside a grocery store. I think the target audience are shoppers who are waiting for the halal meat department to fill their orders. It's more expensive than the ambience would suggest. They have a really broad menu and the few items we tried were decent. We had kashmiri chai, a samosa chaat, and i think a philly cheesesteak or something similar. All items were reasonable approximations of the real thing. It's definitely fun to try the varied menu but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. Nor would I bring a group to dine. read more

I came here with my family on Saturday evening after we got done doing some groceries at world food. They have a nice menu, we ordered the Kashmiri chai and the chicken papdi chaat. They are understaffed right now and we ended up waiting more than 30 mins for our chai, the chicken papdi chaat followed shortly. The Kashmiri chai I'll give a 6 out of 10, it was not that great. The chicken papdi chaat was really good and something different! I feel that service was lacking very much only due to the fact that they were understaffed. My advice is, people want quick service at snack/chai places. Once they are fully staffed, they will recover the long wait times also. Go out and try this place! The ambiance of this place is completely lacking... but its also because its inside of an old grocery store. I mostly came in here to grab a hot cup of tea so I decided on the Kashmiri chai. Well the Kashmiri chai was good. Although it did come in a small foam cup.. the chai was steaming and fresh. The taste was authentic as well. As far as the food goes.. I ordered the beef paratha roll. It was okay. What I liked about the roll was that it was fresh.. but it didn't taste like a beef paratha roll. The inside of the roll was stuffed with strips of beef, cilantro and tomato. This is not how its usually prepared. They also have Mexican food on their menu.. so I feel like they just made a fusion style wrap. I'm more used to the original taste of a beef roll without the fixins. My family ordered the chaat but they complained that it was too sweet. Chaat should have a nice blend of sweet and spicy flavors. I'm not sure if I would come back here again unless im in the area. If I do visit in the future I would probably get the Kashmiri chai and something sweet to go along with it. read more

Heard a lot about this place so came in with my friend to see what the hype is about. We had the chicken zinger and Hunter beef burger with fries. Unfortunately it didn't quite live to our expectations. Both our burgers were falling apart too much and the sauces used for the chicken zinger just didn't blend in. The chicken/meat itself was good. The fries were fine...I think it's really hard to mess up fries. The ketchup they use is either watered down by them personally (which I am hoping is not the case) or is just so cheap that it shouldn't qualify to be on a table. read more
