Poor communication spoiled our visit My fiancé and I stopped by for a drink and he ordered a 32oz can of apple beer. The staff handed it over the bar to him without mentioning that it was strictly for off-premise consumption. Honestly, I suspected something might be off when I saw the large, unopened can, but because the bartender handed it directly to him without a word of warning, we assumed it was fine. We ended up opening it and drinking it for a while before the staff finally noticed. When they did realize what happened, they completely panicked, told us it was a "felony," and confiscated the can. We completely understand that New Mexico has strict liquor laws and that the brewery has to protect its license. Now that we know the rule, we definitely won't make this mistake again. However, the situation could have been entirely avoided if the staff simply communicated better at the point of sale. If you hand a customer a large package container over the bar that cannot legally be opened on-site, it is your responsibility as the server to state that clearly. The staff should have caught this when serving us, or at least handled the mistake with better customer service instead of escalating the situation. It was an honest mistake caused by a lack of clear guidance from the bartender. As two professionals that work on base nearby, this is a letdown, especially as we have frequented this brewery in the past. read more

Plenty of parking and seating; Bombs Away can accommodate a lot of people. Friendly, helpful staff were eager to answer our questions and provide tastes of any beers on tap. My son and I ordered the Atomic Turkey Panini and were both very pleased with our decision; it was delicious. The beer was tasty too!! The patio is huge and blooming plants lined the railing as well as hanging above; all with a Mountain View. The owner is a Veteran and has done a great job with the clever beer and food names as well as the decor. read more

What a cool place! We were in town to do some hiking and exploring, and we always love to visit local breweries. Bombs Away is awesome! Cool vibe: the military theming is great, the space is big and open, and there's a cool patio if you'd rather be outdoors. The branding is super cool, so we had to get some merch! Great beer and food: The IPAs are strong. The food menu isn't huge but still a great selection. We really enjoyed the paninis. Friendly service: both of the bartenders were friendly and helpful, and we happened to meet the brewer who was welcoming and appreciative. Bombs away is definitely a really fun little brewery. This is one of my favorite breweries in regards to their food options. They have really affordable bites, including things like pretzels and paninies. I tried their seasonal panini, which was really good. It had turkey, bacon and apple butter. Very unique and very good. My only thing is, I really wish they had a better selection of alternatives to beer. On my most recent visit, they had a pair beer which was supposed to be the more cider friendly option, but it really wasn't. They also have wines, but I ended up not drinking because there really wasn't anything on the menu for me. read more

Bombs Away is a fun little spot for brews and food! I appreciate a good light beer, which they had a fair selection of, and I'm a sucker for Frito pie, which was a tasty pairing with my drink. I appreciate that they use the big Fritos, so I could scoop up more of the yummy Texas chili. My husband got a panini, which was a bit small, but he enjoyed it. This is my ABQ Beer Passport review for Bombs Away. Retired (young) bartender had excellent service and knowledge of the beer offerings. Steel building with long bar and large tables and a large covered (and heated in the winter) patio. Private and street parking. Prices were $6-6.50 for pints and $1 more for 20 oz'ers. They fill growlers and crowlers and have specials during the week. Quiet and empty until 3pm when airbase employees start getting off work. Enjoyed the modern rock playing (no county!!) and thankfully there wasn't any children at all! I tried the Helle, Kolsch, Hefeweizen, and nitro red ale. None of them tickled my fancy enough to take a growler fill home. Super clean. Plus's are the environment and service. read more

I've been here maybe four times couple of times by myself couple of times with other people. I really like this establishment. I love the long tables inside. Their beer pricing is unique and that you determine price by the number of bombs in front of the name of the beer on the wall. Servers are nice. The menu is small but the food is good. Last time there I had a Cubano that was really really tasty and I am very particular about cubanos. I like the beer. I just feel very comfortable here and I appreciate that the owners are veterans. read more

What a great place. They have an excellent selection of beers. We ordered a flight of beer, a hot dog, and a Ruben sandwich. Beers were all very good. The hot dog was a little cold, but otherwise good. The Ruben sandwich was excellent. The sauce is a little spicy for my taste, but it was still delicious. They also have "buy a Vet a drink". So for $6 we purchased a Vet a drink for when they stop in. Great idea to support our Vets. Staff was friendly and helpful. Restaurant and bathrooms were very clean. Such a cool place. Inside is well-decorated and welcoming. Very military-focused. The outside patio is great. There are lots of tables and the whole patio is covered. The beer tastes great. The brewmaster really seems to know what he's doing here. Excellent balance and gravity. Flavors are great, and I don't feel bloated after having one or two. So this place is close to the base and supports the troops The atmosphere is great staff are great. Had a taste of the double IPA, bombs away, and x ipa, chose the bombs. Excellent taste and just the right amount of hop. Music is basting and it is good music. I was happy to see there was a popcorn maker inside and it is great tasting. I would like to suggest stop by and have a beer. I would suggest see about a food truck to come by on certain days even though they have some food items. While the chili dog taste was what I was craving the meal it self was cool to the touch. I suggest that fry the dog a bit or keep a few in hot water then fry that would help warm up the dog and warm the chili. read more

Still being unfamiliar with Albuquerque, little gems like this make me liKe it more and more. First of all, if your a veteran or appreciate veterans and our military, than check thIs place out. The interior of this place has a very bunker/ ammo dump/ army surplus kind of vibe to it. Everything is industrial with a coat of olive drab thrown on top. All the wording is stenciled in like it was torn off a .50 Cal ammo can and you really get a WW2 bomb shelter feeling. Really well decorated for sure. What doesn't feel bomb sheltery is the abundance of natural light flowing in through the windowed garage door and all the other windows in the place. With that garage door open gives you direct access to a nice size patio that would be perfect in the summer. We only tried one beer that afternoon, Bombs away IPA. A delicious fruity and hoppy hazy IPA that really hit the spot. (I'm a sucker for hazy IPAs) What really hit home for me as a veteran was that my first beer was free with proof of service. As she gave me my free beer I noticed how she erased a tally mark of the chalkboard behind the bar. When asked what that meant she told me that if you'd like, you can pay for an extra beer on you tab and that will go to a veteran when they come in. DUDE! Easily one of the best ways I've ever heard of to pay it forward. When my beer was done and my tab was $0 I threw down for a veteran beer. And another tally mark went up on the board. Kudos to Bombs away beer company for making delicious beers and showing a little appreciation to Albuquerque's quite large veteran community. read more
