In most breweries when I drop in with friends I have a beer. If I don't recognize it on their menu, I inquire about their "dark beers. Usually the darker, the better. Sidetrack's menu had a number of unknown choices. My brewing companions picked several different ones after trying half the menu. They seemed very satisfied, if not downright happy. I struggled to select one. A beer on this chilly day just seemed wrong. So, I opted for one of the two cocktails on the menu. Tequila and grapefruit juice - a Paloma. Absolutely was the right choice. Sidetrack is a small downtown neighborhood brewery that's been around for 7 years, but was new to me. It's small inside, but they have a really nice patio. Now, if Spring would just show it's green head, so we could sit out there. Great little space. I will be back. read more

Small but has a front large window and the bar is unique and fits the name side car! The beer was great and the bartender was friendly and informative. I came in around 4 on a Friday and got to experience the end of week vibe here, and it feels like a comfortable hometown brewery (which is a good thing!) Andrew behind the bar rocks with his knowledge on the beer but also customer service and attentiveness. Highly recommend swooping through here if you're in the Albuquerque area. About 8 beers on tap they make, and a cider from Tractor. They do flights. They have a big patio in the back with long tables that could accommodate two small groups at either end. There's also a bathroom outside at the patio. They do a QR code menu. It felt like there were a lot of locals and regulars, and it's even a place you could have a beer and sit with a laptop when coffee places are closed for COVID. read more

I loved this brewery with a great outdoor space. The indoor area is somewhat small, so plan to get close! The place has a great atmosphere and includes a variety of games. We made an afternoon of good craft beers and played backgammon! They also had posters up for upcoming movie nights in their outdoor space. We were just visiting, but would have loved to have gone to one if it had matched up with our travel schedule. read more

I can't believe I've never reviewed this place! It's a great brewery with consistently good beer, and often a cask beer and/or an English style where it's hand pulled. They usually have a food truck outside, a DJ on the weekends outside on the enclosed patio. And the have popcorn! Not just any popcorn, fancy, tasty popcorn for around $5. The bathrooms are very nice and not gendered. The waitstaff are fun, nice & knowledgeable. There's even a chalk board where you can buy a beer for someone, they write the name up there, and then those people can come in for their gifted beer. In the shadows of downtown between Lead and Coal lies a cozy railroad-themed brewery serving up a delicious lineup of beer. I appreciate small, quaint, brewing operations. There's a certain friendliness and "homey" feeling that you don't get at the bigger brewpubs. Sidetrack is just that way. I hate to shop but it's a necessary evil. Since I hate it though I tend to put it off until the pantry is empty and hubby is begging me to go to the store with him. This is the perfect time to bribe him to take me to a new brewery to try out the brews before we hit the supermarket. This evening the new brewery turned out to be Sidetrack Brewing. Sidetrack has a great neighborhood pub vibe and the flow from the taproom to the patio is really good. The beer list at Sidetrack is short and this evening it was even shorter. They were out of two of the six beers on the menu so they threw in their two special cask brews as part of the six beer flight along with an IPA that must be a seasonal brew. The good: I really enjoyed the Pine Box Pale Ale and the Pine Cask and hubby really liked the Cask Pub and the Railhead Red. The not so good: The blonde was pretty forgettable. The Coma IPA which they swapped out for their Turntable IPA (they were out) was horrible. The aroma and initial taste was reminiscent of something unpleasant I couldn't put my finger on. Then my husband said it. It tastes and smells like it does when you clean out the litter box. Yep. That was it. It's not good people. All in all a good neighborhood place for friends to meet, but I don't think I'd be back for the beer. read more

I hadn't been in years but stopped in on a cold day recently. Don't let the hole in the wall vibe fool you. This place has legit beers. I feel like they do it in a humble quiet way, unlike a lot of breweries in the city. This quaint little place hasn't changed one bit..it's cozy, clean, simple, and they still have a "buy a beer for someone" list, which I think it the coolest thing. You buy someone a beer and they write their name on the list. When that person comes in and gets their free beer, they erase the name. I had the amber and my husband had the smokey amber. They were both good. My amber was juicy, if a beer can be juicy. It didn't give me that dry mouth feel a lot of IPAs and other beers do. It actually made my mouth water..which was different. It was complex but not overdone. My husband had the Smokey amber and it has to be one of the most unique beers in the city. It literally has a smoked taste too it..think Laphroaig scotch whiskey. Undoubtedly the most "Brooklyn" of breweries. Slightly darker lighting in terms of ambiance, in a much more urban part of the city. While a bit smaller in terms of size compared to other brew spots in the area, you and your crew won't feel as cramped. Perhaps it's the rousing and ridiciously competitive game of Scrabble that distracts you. Your command of the English language will improve with every IPA, keep telling yourself that. read more

Love the beer, the atmosphere, and the vinyl collection. Rarely is it overcrowded like some breweries are, where shoulder to shoulder squeezing your way to the bar is required. The beers don't rotate as much as some places. A reliable line up of tried and true flagship beers with a few new brews thrown in now and then, always well-balanced instead of extreme over the top hop bombs that have become fashionable. I'm a huge fan of cask beer which is not a special event roll out here (see comment about shoulder to shoulder), but a regular thing. There's always a food truck, or some in-house snacks if that seems to be enough. The only down side for me is dogs inside and out, but that's not unique to Sidetrack. Shout out to Luna. :) read more

I really do enjoy going to Sidetrack Brewery. In the few times that I have been there, there has always been a nice crowd of people. No screaming drunks or fights going on. The service is a little slow, but that is because they are super busy. I love that they have a back patio that allows you to bring your pups. I also like that they have board games, which always makes drinking funner.. or should I say the beer makes the board games funner? Anyway, give it a shot! read more

This place was awesome! Loved the vibe and the beer selections were good. I really enjoyed the IPA they had and my boyfriend enjoyed all the beers he got to try in his flight. The prices were so reasonable! I believe i only paid 5$ for my pint, and he paid $10 for 6 beer flight. The staff was so nice and attentive and just made the experience a lot more enjoyable. We are visiting the city for the first time, and she was able to give us a ton of tips on things to do and places to explore. read more

This is one of my top 3 breweries in Albuquerque. As a neighborhood brewery, they know they are in a remote location away from downtown. That being said, they are not La Cumbre or Marble in any way. The beer on tap is constantly rotating, and there is no set list of regular beers. The innovative buy a friend a beer is a major selling point because I constantly buy a beer for my friends to come in and try. Staff - The servers are all welcoming and immediately make eye contact with you as soon as you come in. They constantly try and interact with new customers and have them try beers that are out of normal expectation. Location - Although parking may be an issue, I have never seen the brewery have more than 15 people unless there is a special event. The seating outside also adds options if you are with a crowd over 6 people. Craft Selection - The beers they serve are constantly in rotation. If you expect to get the same IPA or Stout month to month, this is not the place for it. They constantly try new things, and with their cask serving system, they are doing just that. If you are going there for your first time, I highly recommend doing a flight. Give them a try and please let me know what your experience is with them. read more

I've been workin' on the railroad. All the live long day. I've got a one track mind after a day of hard work (Those papers pile high!) and it's all about something that'll go down easy. The Pub Ale is such a perfect name for such a beer. 5% and soooo easy to drink. But more to the point, they have the only cask Ales in town. This is such a treat for beerophiles (NEW RULE, beerophile is a word). It's such an anachronistic style but imparts a touch of authenticity. You'll likely hate it but it'll stay there, in your mind, fermenting. Maturing. You'll be back. More beer: the Cask Stout tastes like chocolate. The rich, creamy beer will be perfect for the upcoming cold season. I like the spectre of Schloss Gertrude Zachary looking upon the establishment like the house of a railroad Barron. Makes it more authentic. Throw in the fact that Zendo share a wall and you've got it made. Your upper in the morning and after work libations. Ok, I really like hearing the good things about a place first: it gives them a more fair impression. The only negative I have is that their motto could be "True to Style" (Read: basic beer) That's not bad if your beer is good but creativity is in high demand right now. Oh, did I mention Cask Ales? I've been holding off on going to Sidetrack for a little while now. I frequent their neighbors Zendo coffee and one day happened to see a sign and logo about a brewery opening up so that got me really excited. We always say we are going to go but when we finally do decide to go in their either closed or we decide to go somewhere else. Place has a cool vibe, right when you walk in you will notice a few tables and some seating at the window overlooking 2nd street. They have a pretty big bar area. One thing I did like was the tap handles which are old/new looking nails you would find on a train track. One other thing that I liked was the outside patio which has big community tables and some cool art work on the south wall. Dog friendly so if you got yourself a four legged pet bring them by. Zendo coffee and Sidetrack share a patio so whether you are drinking coffee or drinking a beer you can enjoy the outside patio. I tried their red ale which was called Rail Head Red. It was pretty good, lightly carbonated with notes of caramel. I also sampled my buddies IPA which was also good. One thing that I found to be really interesting and something that I haven't seen any other brewery do was what they call the "Buy a Friend Beer." Pretty same concept like the NY pizza thing that got pretty popular. Basically they said that you buy your friend a beer they sign your friends name on the board and they can go in and claim their beer. Awesome work for setting that up, hopefully it takes off once people catch on about it. Overall Sidetrack is a good brewery, location is kind of off the main strip and maybe not to known about but with some time and good beers they could be a top brewery. read more

My friend and I stopped in Albuquerque for one night during our roadtrip and we were dead set on finding a nice brewery to go to. Our airbnb host suggested Sidetrack so we decided to give it a shot. We found street parking very easily which was a definite plus since we weren't from the area! The second we walked into the brewery, I was really surprised with the decor and feeling of the place. This brewery felt so much like a coffee shop that I had to make sure we were at the right place! There were even people working while enjoying a nice cold beer! It was relatively late when we arrived so my friend and I decided to split a flight. The flight had a really solid mix of IPAs, stouts and blondes so we both found a couple pours that we really liked. Service was really great and although we didn't get a chance to talk to the bartender much, she was nice enough to give us two free stickers! But hands down best part of the brewery was the dog, Tank, that was roaming freely. He was so sweet and so curious and especially eager to pick up any loose popcorn that was left on the floor. Loveeeeee If I ever visit Albuquerque again I'll be sure to stop by and try some more beers! read more
