Very popular and busy bakery in SCS. The thin crust pizza is yummy but the baked ricotta is what always gets me in the door!

Want a great sub? You have to try the Italian sub layered with great salami, Italian ham?? provolone cheese, tomatoes, and fresh lettuce on a sesame sub bun made on site. Garnish with their homemade Italian oil dressing . You can get the usual cake donuts cookies , homemade cannolis and still go home with money in your pocket. I would give five stars for the food, but the parking can be a bit of a nightmare. They have a very small side parking lot that does not accommodate many vehicles. That's obviously not a fault of the bakery, but it is worth noting. Especially since they tend to be busy almost all the time. Which I take as a good sign! I have not gone since before the lock down, so I cannot speak to their practices in relation to Covid and the CDC guidelines, but I had a lovely couple of experiences prior to the world change. Would love to go back soon for another pepperoni roll. I think it's called some thing else, but it was very delicious. If you live in the area and you haven't checked out this place yet, I would definitely recommend it! read more

Wanted to post an update regarding the donuts I bought at the beginning of June this year (you can see them in my previous post). I froze them when I got home, took them out last nite & had two for breakfast this morning. I thought they just as tasty as when I brought them home & they were already on the day old shelf. They didn't get weird like some baked goods do after being frozen. I was super happy! Sad they didn't have any of the same kind today, but I got my donut fix for a while, so I'm good! read more

Incredibly slow service. If you want to wait in an hour line and get fired from your job for taking an hour lunch, this is your joint. Food went downhill , way too many sesame seeds & pizza's way too greasy... some of the sandwiches are a loafs worth the bread drowned in sesame seeds, so you're sitting there picking off bread n' seeds. I'll give this place a hard pass, I do not enjoy the backwards practices they do there. read more

Curt and terse customer service, plus no dinner. :( I was bummed and had to scramble. I unfortunately ordered dinner using a GrubHub gift card. 15 min prior to scheduled delivery (and 45 min after ordering), I received an update that my order was delayed by 30 min. Then, 15 min later, cancelled. I called Bommarito's to ask why my order was cancelled, and was tersely told that it was my fault. Then, after conferring with another Bommarito employee, I was told they do not participate with GrubHub. Then they told me to have a good night and hung up promptly. I felt awful and wish I hadn't been treated so carelessly by a neighborhood business. read more

I had the vague recollection of an amazing Italian bakery that had the best made to order subs. A friend took me to this place after we graduated MSU in 2000. I never, ever forgot this place....and after reading many reviews on Yelp, I was pretty sure Bommaritos was the place I have been lamenting over for decades. It seems like one of those old school places rooted in tradition, that you could go to 10 years from now and nothing has or will change,but in an amazing way due to perfection and mastery. Yum! Hands down one of the best canolis I have ever had. And I am picky!!! Creamy filing, nice chunks of chocolate throughout. The shell was light, not dense at all but remained its crispness. Hand filled to order. The Italian sub was GREAT! Large, filing, quality Italian meats, provolone, banana peppers, oil/seasonings. LOVED the bread...tons of sesame seeds crisp on the outside chewy on the inside....remained firm even the next day when I ate my other half. There are few things worse than a soggy bottomed sandwich. The muffallta with spicy ham and cheese was great! I loved that bread. Sesame seeds on the top and bottom and I mean a ton! You have to love sesame, which I do. You take a number and wait for your turn. They crank everything out fast, so do not let a crowd intimidate you. They had homemade gelato and Alonsis...and a few others. i love Alonsi's spumoni....toasted almonds, candied fruit....yummmm....a great treat. Curious about the stunning casatta cake with canoli filing. They also had donuts with canoli filing. Their danishes looked amazing. Big as a pie. Fresh baked breads were great. Nice Italian Deli meats by the pound. A variety of Italian breaksticks by the pound. Super cool in my book, I love them...and find them a bit pricey in our suburban groceries. Some wine, pastas and other grocery items available. Wish I bought that chocolate covered nougat..... Ahhh, next time and trust me there will be a next time. This is a Grosse Pointe/St.Claire Shores staple. We buy all of our bread and pastries from here. If you want good pizza look no further. They have a killer large pizza deal. Just make sure you call ahead as it takes a little while to make it. And don't even get me started on their sub sandwiches. Seriously one of the best places to get lunch. The Italian sub is second to none. And they have an impressive meatball sub as well. The canoli. Oh the canoli. This brings Italian sweets to another level. I dare you to only eat one. Ordered tiramisu and the outer parts in the top and sides were hard. Not sure how long that tray of these were out in the display case. Very disappointed since I drive all the way there for the tiramisu and fried cinnamon roll - which was extra fried a d but very good either. Please do better with shelf life on the tiramisu in 2022. read more

I visited on April 12 2022. I've never heard of this place as I am a west sider. Was recommended without asking with this description, "if you want a good sub than that place right there is the only place anywhere any time." Well I wasn't planning on getting a sub but as a full fledged submarine sandwich aficionado I wasn't going to pass up this chance. I order what Bommaritos calls the "sub buster". It was a typical Italian Sub on some type of sesame seeded hard bread, similar a Pepperidge breadstick. Not my cup of tea personally. As for the meat quantity I'd say slim, at least when it is described as having XX Meat. The vegetables were fresh and crisp. Not the worst sandwich not the best. I will say the service was fantastic, the place is really cool and I would definitely return to try some of the homemade baked goods, and would give the pizza a shot. But when it comes to subs no place I've been yet compared to Gonellas. read more

A local classic! Not much more to say! We travel from 12 & Schoenherr to get subs! Can't beat the fresh in store bread with freshly sliced lunch meats, mild peppers / hold the tomatoes and if I'm feeling particularly greedy - I'll get a sub buster (extra meat & cheese). You can get pizzas for dirt cheap & they are delicious! Best muffuletta ever! Did I mention fresh sandwhich bread sliced right while you wait for only $1.99/loaf??? Lastly, they have fresh in house made donuts & desserts! Oh wait - the entire reason for my last trip... you can buy fresh uncooked pizza dough so you can make your own homemade pizza pizzas!!!
