Akin butchered my hair and was a jerk throughout the process. At a point where I realized he had not listened at all and i was trying to minimize the damage he got super nasty. He also dyed my hair one shade darker than what we agreed on. I waited several weeks before posting a review but am livid every day that I try to style my hair. Ayhan gave me the most amazing haircut. My hair is quite long, very thick and wavy and his skills were stellar. He gave my hair movement and bounce. I prefer a dry cut because it's easier with my texture to get precision and he mastered the assignment. He's also very personable and very professional and keeps his area disinfected between clients. It's a quick walk from Grand Central and a light welcoming comfortable space with a range of services. They use Goldwell Color, Oribe Hair Products and in addition the staff works super hard. I do not recommend booking Francisco. He did my makeup for my engagement proposal, and I was very unhappy with the results. We had discussed a natural look, but large false eyelashes were applied without asking my preference, and they looked unnatural and were poorly applied (the corners were lifting). I did not look like myself in the photos, which was very upsetting for such an important moment. The makeup application felt rushed, and Francisco moved on to another client without asking for my feedback. Throughout the appointment, he was speaking to another client in Spanish, which made me feel he was not focused on my service. I had also booked him for a hair blowout, but he handed my hair off to another stylist while he moved on to a different client. This felt dismissive and unprofessional. I'm really disappointed to be writing this, but my experience at Bon Bon Salon in Murray Hill with Milla was awful from start to finish. I recently moved nearby and wanted to find a new neighborhood salon to build a long term relationship with, since I do several hair treatments a year. I saw great reviews, especially for Milla, so I booked with her for a color correction and highlights. I have very thick, long hair that's naturally black and had been dyed black over old highlights, so I knew this would be a challenging process. Because of that, I called ahead and spoke to Milla directly to confirm she was comfortable and experienced with this type of service. She assured me she could do it and asked me to come early. When I got there, she immediately started commenting on how long and thick my hair was and how hard it would be. I told her multiple times that if she didn't think she could do it or didn't have the time, I was completely fine leaving. She insisted she could handle it. I ended up being there almost 7 hours, and my hair was damaged. What went wrong: She pushed me into a haircut, saying my ends were dead. I only wanted a trim and light layers, but she cut off way more than I asked for. It felt like it was to make the job easier. She constantly complained about my hair being long and thick throughout the appointment, which made me feel bad. If it was such an issue, she shouldn't have agreed to take me, especially after I offered to leave. The bleach and foil application looked extremely sloppy and unorganized. Foils were crumpled, not placed neatly, and she didn't properly section my hair. She had an assistant hold sections instead of using clips. I sat at the sink for about 45 minutes waiting to rinse because she was busy with other clients. I understand overlap happens, but this felt like overbooking and added a ton of time. Because of the messy application, my hair got severely knotted. Detangling was painful, and I eventually asked to brush it myself because it hurt so much. The toner application also felt rushed and uneven. Around 4.5 hours in I asked her to slow down and not rush, but she kept rushing. When she started blow drying, my hair was coming out orange. I asked for dark chocolate brown dimension. I had to point out that it wasn't right, and only then did she acknowledge it. We had to put color on again, which was extra damage that shouldn't have happened if it was done properly the first time. After 6.5+ hours, the result was maybe a 4/10. My hair was much shorter than I wanted, the color ended up darker than requested with little visible dimension, and there were red tones I never asked for. I even helped blow dry my hair just so I could leave. Then I realized there was bleach and dye all over my jeans and top. She had me pose for photos after closing, and despite clearly seeing the stains, she said nothing until I noticed in the mirror. When I brought it up, she said it would come out in the wash and didn't offer to compensate. The assistant was much kinder and tried to help clean dye off my skin and clothes. I sent Milla photos and receipts for the stained clothing ($125). She told me to bring the pants in so she could "try to wash," which wasn't realistic. When I asked for reimbursement, she claimed there was a salon policy that they aren't responsible for clients' clothing, but there's nothing on the website or during booking about that. She also blamed it on my "movement" and told me "no one wears expensive clothes for a color job," which was unprofessional. She eventually offered to Venmo back the tip. Overall, I left feeling upset and shocked by the lack of care and professionalism. I wanted this to be my go to neighborhood salon, but I won't be returning and will be disputing this transaction given their inability to resolve the problems and awful treatment and lack of care that led to hair damage. read more

This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a salon. I booked an appointment in Lexington for balayage, showed the receptionist my hair, and was quoted $400. She then sent me to another location, where I met the stylist, Burak. From the start, the experience was uncomfortable. He commented that I had "Indian hair," which I questioned--what does that even mean? My appointment was booked for 5 PM, but he didn't actually start until 6:30 PM. He gave me numerous reasons why my hair couldn't be done in balayage and instead sampled a few highlights, claiming my hair was damaged. If my hair supposedly couldn't be done, why did they book the appointment in the first place? And how unprofessional to not only start late but also fail to suggest an alternative style or solution. Instead, he kept saying, "Come tomorrow." This was a complete waste of my time--no results, no solutions, and no respect for the client's time or expectations. Save your money and go to real professionals who respect your time and know how to communicate with clients. Nice try, but the stylist called my hair Indian, you cannot speak of such situation when you were not there. Its best to be compliant and train your staff right. I don't even know where to begin about how amazing Dina and Bon Bon Salon is. Let me tell you I've been around NYC and back looking for the right hair stylist to manage my hair. I love to be blonde blonde blonde with dimension and have extremely curly and dry hair. It's hard to do both without completely frying and damaging my hair. Somehow Dina is able to accomplish this and more. The first time I went there she was adamant we do a strand test because she didn't want to damage my hair and I'm very grateful she did. I made an appointment on Saturday for a Sunday haircut and blow dry. I walked in and was warmly greeted by the staff. Bella did my hair. We agreed on long layers and keeping it shorter in the front than the back. After some back and forth, I agreed to do some face framing side bangs. My hair looks great! Bella clearly knows what she is doing. She suggested a treatment called conditioning glaze or something like that for my few gray hairs for next time, as well as shorter side bangs. Not sure I'll take her up on those, but I appreciated her input. The whole thing was $125 including tax, took about an hour, includes cut and blow dry.
