The former office manager, Anna, recently left and her replacement is lacking. I have been a customer here for nearly 2 years. You don't treat customers that way. Oxana was my stylist today. I'm satisfied with the quality of the haircut -- she fixed the choppiness from a previous haircut to give me proper layers that tapered together. She also tried to advise me on my hair color, telling me the jump from my natural dark color to my dyed light color didn't look good and suggested adding a toner to blend them. After repeating a few times that I was only here for a haircut and that I didn't care about the color, she relented. What I am most unhappy with is the deceptive marketing practice. The sign says $40 haircut for first time clients, but when they rang me up, they said it was $85. I reminded them of the promotion on the door, and they said but I also got a blowdry. So you're telling me simply blowdrying my hair adds an extra $45.....? My friend who has been here has also been nickel and dimed before, with them trying to apply hair serum and charge an extra $30 for that. So buyer beware! Incredibly upsetting experience with Eli for a haircut yesterday. I've been here before for cuts, color, and blowouts without any real issue, but yesterday was the worst experience I think I've ever had at a salon. Upon getting there, I told Eli that I wanted to keep as much length on my hair as possible, told him I was growing my hair out, and that I had some LONG layers that I just wanted to clean up. I also mentioned that I wear my hair curly (at LEAST 3a curls -- I walked in without having used any heat on my hair), so there is a lot of shrinkage. He showed me that he would only take about 1 inch off the length of my hair, so I said that was fine. Initially, it didn't look like he was cutting that much off, until I started seeing him chopping literal chunks out of my hair for these "long layers." Unfortunately, he clearly decided to go against what I had asked for. He cut chunks out of my hair, resulting in layers that make my hair look flat, thin, and uneven. I part my hair on the side, which Eli did not take into account, and now I can't even do that because the hair is so short it falls immediately even with hairspray/gel. Towards the end of the haircut, Eli asked me if I wanted a blowout. I flat out refused, saying I wanted to style it at home, as I prefer to wear my hair curly. After the haircut, he not only blow dried my hair like I asked him not to do, but he continued to cut more of my hair around my face, to where the layers come to the bottom of my nose. When I told him that the hair was short, he tried to argue with me that the length was still there, when he cut at least 3 inches off my hair before the layers. I think he thought he was doing me some kind of favor by blow drying my hair for free, but I had explicity asked him NOT to do that more than once. Upon getting home, multiple people acknowledged that it was a bad haircut, with bad layers. I have never been so disappointed in how my hair looks; my confidence is ruined, and now I have to wait months for this mess to grow out before I can even try to fix it with another haircut, DEFINITELY from someone else. read more

Been coming to salon icon for just under 2 years now. I started with Tony, who was amazing but unfortunately moved out of NY. Based off reviews and the haircuts I had seen while there previously, I trusted them to place me with whoever and got an apt with Diana. Every-time I go into the salon she's always so warm and does a fabulous job on my hair, which is super heavy and not the easiest to style. They also have water, coffee etc available for customers which is a nice perk. Would def recommend to anyone looking for a fab haircut. I saw Silk for Baylage and a trim. My long-term stylist left NYC for Miami. Silk is very sweet, and knows how to handle curly hair, which is rare for a neighborhood Manhattan salon. She deserves 5 stars. However, I took a star off not because of Silk. The salon quoted me with a cheaper price ($150) during the consultation to see if they can handle curly hair. Today, I was told I was I quoted for partial, not half, highlights. Fine. I accepted my fate. ($245 for half, a toner, and a trim). Then, at check-out. I was overcharged (one could argue again at $255) , did the math in my head, and was refunded $10. For the curly hair girls, go see Silk. Would NOT recommend for balayage. The pictures and reviews look great, but the reality was awful. I came here because they had a lot of reviews about balayage. I've been getting balayage for about 6 years, so I know the drill. I provided 4 reference pictures and gave pretty detailed direction with regards to the exact color I wanted (again, I showed her a picture of the exact color). The hair dresser ended up putting me under a heat dryer for probably 30 minutes (which is WAY too long), and when she started blow drying my hair it was clear she over processed it and damaged my hair very badly. My hair was PURPLE because it was SO light. And the hair was BREAKING OFF as she was drying it. I was completely speechless. I asked why my hair was purple and she said "you asked for it light". I said "I asked for a balayage, that shouldnt be purple" and she got mad and said she would put another toner on my hair. It didnt do anything. I had to CUT my hair off because it was SO badly damaged and stringy (I could literally stretch my hair). I would absolutely NEVER recommend this place. read more

Raya cut my hair. She was extremely polite and pleasant, really considerate of all my concerns and did exactly what I wanted. I have really, really long and was pretty specific about the style and length, and she was awesome in making sure I was happy with the cut.
