Unfortunately as much as ive loved bonanzas for years, today i was shocked at how much my usual order ended up costing after further price increases. About a year and a half ago i was paying ~12.50 for 2 hot dogs and a small fry (which was already an increase), now its 17.50 plus 2.5 tip got me to 20$... that is ridiculous considering that equals a 40% increase over barely 2 years!!! The total Inflation in the past 2 years was only around 5.5%... like come on guys, super disappointed. I can get 13 (THIRTEEN) hot dogs with drinks at costco for the same price. i might aswell go to tabys down the street and get a half pound burger with fries and a salad for 21$. I must've passed this place a million times and never noticed it. On a corner of a block parallel to Main Street in oyster Bay is this little Italian ice spot that has some quick lunch food and Italian ices and cream ices. I had the coconut cream ice. Built in 1897, this may be one of the oldest spots I've visited. Cute corner spot with outdoor patio bench seating. The staff consist of two very helpful teenagers. With a pretty straightforward menu, hot dogs, fries, ice cream. Ordered a few hot dogs with toppings and ate them immediately, so no photos. The steak fries were perfectly crispy. I got a scoop of the banana cream pie ice which was nice and creamy. If you're ever in the area, it's worth the try. read more

What a super cool little Oyster Bay gem! This fourth generation ice cream and hot dog shop just radiates charm. With very reasonable prices, tons of quaint personality and a whole lot of history, Bananza's is a destination in and of itself. I came in the other day for the first time and ordered me a large ices, consisting of half cappuccino crunch and half Oreo. It was absolutely delicious. It was perfect for the hot summer day, although I could still picture myself enjoying it even on a cool spring or fall night. I really don't understand why this place is so popular. The current owner (still a family member) has raised prices, but not improved the offerings or their quality. I recently spent $27 ( with tax) for 4 hotdogs ( 3 with ketchup, 1 with sauerkraut and mustard). This was a lunch hour purchase, and the employee had to defrost the hot dogs in the microwave because he ran out. Then he put them in the pan of water for about 5 minutes. He did everything with the same gloves on...placed order on tablet, took my money and prepared the hotdogs. The place really needs a thorough cleaning! I am surprised the health department hasn't hit them with safety and sanitation violations. I took my order home and warmed in microwave attempting "kill" germs and make sure the hot dogs were cooked. If the order was just for me I would have requested a refund. I did not want to disappoint my visiting grandchildren, so I complete the order but brought everything home. Just so concerned that this long established business has now made money their priority, not a quality product, customer service and safety/sanitation. read more

A cute stand in Oyster Bay near the Oyster Bay High School football field and LIRR parking lot as well as the popular restaurants on the main block. They not only offer a huge selection of ice/Ice-Cream flavors, they even serve food such as hot dogs! The ice/Ice-Cream comes in a small and a large size. Fortunately, you may choose up to two flavors for the small size. I got the orange cream and the piña colada. Both were delicious! This place was great. A YEAR OR TWO AGO!!! New owners, they doesn't care about anything but the money their making, prices for everything went up $2 or so. They are rude obnoxious people who won't give you the time of day unless others are looking. The food isn't cared for like it used to be, has actually got me and my friends sick a few times since things have changed. Can't believe this place is just throwing itself in the toilet. Constant neglect for basic things like the soda machine leave the poor teenager employees to deal with the dissatisfied customers. Really upset about what happened here. We tried a small peach italian ice and chili dog. The peach flavor was super nice and fruity, tart and sweet! It did taste a bit like an artificial peach candy, but I still enjoyed it. I also sampled their pistachio italian ice and think that is a very popular flavor. My boyfriend got the chili dog, and I thought it was good when i tried a bite. The food is just bad, there's no other way I can explain it and the workers don't understand what the word chili means in chili fries. I would say it can be useful to just stop by for an ice cream once in a while but carvel is right up the road and a lot better. The shack and location itself was super cute and inviting. But the dogs were only just decent - nothing particularly special than what you can get at any hot dog cart in the city. Got a side of mozzarella sticks which were only cooked to be warm - definitely not as throughly cooked/fried through a they should've been - no cheese pull at all since they were only room temp. 19$ - all together (3 dogs, mozz, and 2 drinks) which i think is a fair - maybe a little pricier than prefered - but since the food wasn't particularly great it felt like a waste. i have been going to this place for decades, always has been one of my favorite weekend missions to take a nice drive and stop for a bite to eat.... all i can say is the last two times i stopped by i was let down, these new owners are driving it into the ground... from the chili dog that was topped with a few small crumbles of ground beef and a few traces of onion, the onion sauce i was literally able to line the pieces of onion up to match the length of the dog, to having black cherry soda to offer only coke from the tap which apparently had completely run out of carbonation....... such a simple business that was consistent for decades is getting butchered, quite a shame read more

There are 50 icy flavors you can try! I did enjoy my Reese flavor and orange cream. The Reese flavor was sweet as I thought. There were nutty peanut butter pieces inside. I grew up going to the bonanza stand. 40 years later it looks the same! Still serving hotdogs and Italian ices. I had to order the lemon ice. Others ordered the watermelon and a chocolate. I have to admit I was very disappointed that the lemon ice was VERY icy. The watermelon and chocolate were smooth and amazing. Discovered this place on Trip Advisor and perused on Yelp to confirm, great local shack that serves hot dogs, drinks, and lots of Italian Ices. This place is located on a corner spot, steps from the Oyster Bay LIRR station and Post office. There's no tables or chairs so you need to grab and go. The ices come in two sizes, small or large. That just means more scoops. The Pina colada was my first choice given the reviews but alas, sold out! I opted for coconut instead - excellent choice. It was refreshing, had coconut bits and it's texture was a tad creamy so it was not just ice. My family and friends got the pink lemonade - a favorite in this group of kids, lemon and orange. The lemon is classic, as it sounds. The orange had a good concentrated flavor so it was not watery as I expected. It reminded me of drinking a frozen Tropicana juice. Very good. The menu of flavors are too many to detail here but next time, if I am not aiming for summer time flavors, I'll get the mint chocolate or the Reese's. Drooling just thinking of it. read more

I don't know much about Oyster Bay but I DO know that I am a fan of the Bonanza Stand. There are A TON of Italian Ice flavors to choose from and I am sure they are all delightful. Sadly I did not try one on this visit but now it gives me more reason to come back. I remember stopping in for Italian ices and hot dogs back in the 1980's, so when was here in OB for a visit I made it a point to stop and check in on this hangout. 3.5 stars, but i'll round up. I've been here a number of times throughout the years. I came after dinner here for an ice after eating at The Homestead. Workers were quick to ask us if we needed help, but were not that friendly beyond that. Could be cause it was at the end of their shift which I can understand. Not much difference in the sizes. A large ice was $4 and was served in a small, soft paper cup. Was more comparable to a small in other places. I went with the reeses peanut butter ice and cake batter ice. Both were good, not amazing, but good. Reeses had a nice amount of peanut butter throughout and the cake batter had it's typical cake batter flair with sprinkles and decent flavoring. Within minutes the ices were completely melting everywhere and the cup they put them in was falling apart. (it was warm out obviously this would happen!) I had to toss it in the garbage with 1/3 still left in the cup because it was a mess and I couldn't hold it anymore. Wish they had sturdier cups, but if you do go ask for a spoon. Overall, I thought it was pricey for what you got, but still a good ice. It's a local business which I love to support however I think I actually prefer the Ralph's chain which hurts to say. read more

Brain Freeze! I forget this place is here because it is the kind of place you hit on a summer day or evening. They have, in my opinion the best Italian ices around - way better than the huge Ralph's chain that dominates every burg on Long Island.
