I grew up in Oyster Bay. I was always excited about the summer because I knew the Bonanza Stand was going to open! They have the best Italian Ice on Long Island and the best Hotdogs also. I never met a person that came to Oyster Bay and didn't stop here. They have a huge inventory of Ices to choose from. My favorite was the lemon flavor, they put the ice in there little white pouches that you squeeze together to get all the Italian ice out. The hotdogs are also famous in Oyster Bay. When I go for a hotdog I like red onions and cheese on mine. I use to go there as a kid with my friends and get ices or hotdogs, now I take my nieces and nephews there. I love that there are kids working here, looks like a family business. And everything was made fresh and to order. I didn't particularly care for the chili dog but not because it was bad, i just didn't prefer their style of chili. The onion rings were huge and the bomb. But they did overcharge me by about $3, which i didn't figure out until i was walking back to my car and i was too hungry to turn around. I'm also sure it was a total mistake and not intentional. I was walking around Oyster Bay and this little red shack appeared on the corner.....low and behold, Bonanza. Pretty cute little place, it's strictly a street vendor eating establishment. Walk up ordering only. There is no place to eat here, both inside and out. The menu in located on a board on the outside of the shack along with the prices (take a look at the photos). In terms of food, they are big into homemade italian ices. They have about fifty flavors. Also there food is mainly nachos, chili, hot dogs, chili dogs, fries, onion rings; pretty much any combination of them. Now to the food, I had a bowl of their chili and a pretzel. The chili was pretty good, you can tell it was homemade. It had chunks of green peppers, onions, meat, and had a little bit of kick to it (I assume by kick, they added tobasco). The pretzel was fine, really just your average pretzel. My friend had a cake batter ice and it looked just like the ice cream you would get from Coldstone. Really a nice and rich looking ice. He said the ice was delicious, so eat up!!! This place is cool for grabbing a quick bite to eat. I wouldn't go out of my way to hit it up, though. It would be nice to stop at if you're up that way, say for lunch or at the water or even the oyster festival (which is awesome!!!). read more

I moved away from Oyster Bay over a decade ago but there are some things that just can't be forgotten. On a beautiful warm summer day, one of those things is Bonanza Stand. When I was young, my dad used to drive me over to grab a quick lunch on his break. An open window drive through the treed landscape of Mill Neck, Bayville and Oyster Bay. The goal? Hot Dogs with chili and cheese or red onion sauce followed by a lemon ice served by Mr Phil himself. There was a bottle of Frank's RedHot Phil kept on the high shelf next to the window for my dad. Later, I went on my own with friends when they were in town and then I took my own son when he was a toddler so he could smear chocolate ices all over his smiling face. That bottle of Frank's was still there. (Probably not the same one) In Chicago it's the deep dish. In Charlotte, it's the BBQ baby. In Oyster Bay, the traditional "Dirty Water Dog" rules the streets. Well, at least it draws a crowd. The Bonanza Dog is the great equalizer. When I went with my dad, you could always see the clump of people on the sidewalk. Wall Street moguls in suits on a break from power meetings lined up with sleeveless stoners coming off the beach to get the opportunity to sit on the curb and chow down on cheap dogs, spicy chili and real, homemade ices. I haven't been back on Long Island in a good while. It seems by the reviews that the legend lives on. Haters be aware: You won't find organic all beef dogs, brioche buns, roasted anything aioli, arugula or even electrolyte water. Instead you will get the lowly boiled frank, white bread buns and all the extras you would imagine coming off a pushcart in the city. And you will love it. We moved from the city over 20 years ago to the North Shore and Bonanzas was the first joint we hit after seeing it on the corner up from town hall and the place never gets old. This is on par with Corona Italian Ice in Queens and dare I say a step above why because the have delicious pretzels, hot dogs wicked good cheese fries etc etc. coming up to the north shore to OB and not visiting this joint would be a sacrilegious. read more

So this place is very dirty beat down I came with my friends to get a couple chicken tenders very expensive seven dollars for chicken tenders which you can go to McDonald's and get a 20 piece for at least five dollars. Your service is slow the girl with the blond hair who looks like Tinker Bell takes very slow to make the food. This was a place that was great but I recently went with my son for a quick dog. The staff was adding more dogs to the water and I got a glimpse of the packaging. You couldn't get a cheaper hot dog if you wanted to after Googling it. We got three dogs. They were gross! Soft and mushy meat. The bread was wet from the water they were cooked in. Comparable to Ralph's, Bonanza stand is a cute little place surrounded by food and shopping which makes it a quick place to grab something sweet (but they also have food as well). I tried several different ice's as I've never been here before but know what flavors I like from Ralph's. My go to is usually a banana ice but here it tasted almost "fake" if that makes sense. That didn't steer me away though, the cashier offered me more ices to try until I found one I liked! I ended up getting the chocolate Oreo and regular chocolate. So good!! The prices are unbeatable. I wish they had other locations more inland rather than on the north shore since I'm rarely in the area. But if I was in the area again I most definitely would come back! read more

Have been coming to this little shack for years mainly for the ices . Definitely the best and largest selection of flavors around. Love the lemon, pits and all (you know it's made from fresh lemon juice when you encounter the pits). Recently tried the meatball parm hero, which was great for takeout. Looking forward to trying some more of there hot food. Always a great stop after an afternoon at the nearby beach and park or a great pitstop on a bike tour of the beautiful north shore. read more

This is the cutest place to go during the summer. It is an old school stop. You go up and order an Italian ice and some fries and hang on the corner with your friends. They have plenty of options and the neighborhood kids work here which is cute. There is an outdoor seating area. This is a little tiny shack take-out place I never even would have noticed driving by if it weren't for Yelp. I expected the hot dogs to be better after reading the reviews. If they toasted the bun and buttered it, it would have been tastier. The dog itself is tender and has a pretty good taste- let's just say a ton tastier than the over hyped Criff Dogs in Manhattan. Simple little shack with a few picnic tables outside. We got onion rings and hot dogs, but it seems like ices are their specialty. Conveniently located near TR Memorial Park with a cheap menu. However I was pretty disappointed considering the positive reviews and constant line. The onion rings were frozen, from a bag I could get at the supermarket. Hot dogs were ok. Yesterday was day 1 of my two day adventure in Oyster Bay (I'll be back tonight for some beer oriented endeavors so stay tuned). I made the trip for a quick lunch (and a little dessert). Having read a lot about this little food stand, I knew the summer was the right time to try them out. Bonanza's sits inconspicuously at a corner and you could easily drive right past it if you're not looking carefully. Though, I don't advise you do as they offer some quality fast food and great ices. It's cash only here, but what do you expect from an old fashioned food shack such as this (I enjoy Long Island's cash only establishments, just sayin')? Round one was food and I went with a chili dog, large onion rings, and a Dr. Brown's black cherry soda. Though it's a tiny food stand, they carved out the area behind it with a few wooden picnic tables nestled under some shade. I popped a squat and dove into my grub, which totally hit the spot. Meaty chili with large pieces of tomato and pepper topped the tasty hot dog. The onion rings were nicely fried and I enjoyed them condiment-free. Round two was what (besides hot dogs) Bonanza's is known for: ices. Call me boring but I can't say no to an orange cream ice. That was my choice (large size), but there's plenty more options available. It was light, creamy and pretty decent. Overall, though Bonanza's is just a tiny food shack, if you find yourself in Oyster Bay, stop by for a bite or an ice. I know I will (though maybe not today). read more

If you are looking for a true italian ice come here. My personal favorite is the lemon ice. Absolutely refreshing on a hot summers day. The best part, it has real lemon pits in it so you know your getting the good stuff. The hot dogs are also amazing, I keep it simple with a plain dog and even without all the toppings the Bonanza hot dog tasty. Stopped by here on Sunday afternoon place was pretty busy. We got a chocolate Italian ice and a pistachio Italian ice. Both were pretty amazing, but I'm taking one star off for serving quality. They literally mushed so much product into this weak paper cup and it was leaking everywhere, it dripped all over my shirt and also got on my husbands pants. Mind you I saw some other patrons with the same stuff in foam cups and they were given spoons. Do we need to request that? At the very least I would of rather had a less sloppy execution on filling the paper cups. My pistachio flavor was some of the BEST, but it was definitely more of a cream ice, you could even say gelato consistency with whole real pistachios. If back in the area would stop here again for sure but request the foam cup with spoon instead and to try their famous lemon flavor. read more

Growing up in Oyster Bay there was no greater joy than going to bonanzas with your friends in the summer. I have the same thing every time I go there: a hot dog, bonanza fries, and a strawberry ice (or icy as we used to call them when I was little). It is still to this day my favorite hot dog, fries and Italian ice. I will never not come here... Even walking by when they're open and not getting anything is a struggle. If you're in oyster bay during the summer do yourself a favor and have a cheap but delicious lunch. read more

Tops for this lil' food stand!! It's so simple. Bonanza is nothing more than a small shack close to the entrance of Teddy Roosevelt Park thats serves delicious ices, cheese fries and hot dawgs. It's the perfect place to stop before or after your trip to the (rocky) Teddy R beach. The lines are manageable, the prices are cheap and the food is much better than it should be. There's a reason why this little red shack often has a line. There's no comparison for their ices-- they are better than any chain. Their chocolate is rich and creamy and tastes the same as when I first had it (30 years ago). Their ices are made with fresh ingredients.
