Overall, I'd say that Bark Barbecue is one of the better food spots in all of Dumbo, though still not mindblowing. I went several times at peak dinner service (30+ min wait) and the meat was soft, melt-in-your-mouth, flavorful, and incredible, but I went again around 6pm before peak dinner service (no line, yay!) and noticed the pulled pork was very dry and not as piping hot - definitely had been left out under the heat lamps for a while before I received my order. Pros and cons of the timing, I suppose! Love their BBQ sauce. Drenching the meat is my favorite part. Busy spot in Timeout Market but is always my personal must try if I MUST eat in Dumbo.

Throw in the ample seating that's a specialty of non-Manhattan BBQ joints, and you've got a great spot for a casual dinner. Not sure I'd schlep out here just for Bark, but I'm not mad we tried it.

Compared to both the basic, and the high end Peruvian restaurants that I've been to throughout the city, La Chacra is far and away the best. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and felt intentional. Nothing was just thrown on a plate. As full as we were, and we were quite full, there was no way that we were leaving without trying something from the desert menu. Another wise choice, as both the flan and the tres leche cake were fantastic. To wrap this one up, this spot is a solid five stars. The prices are very reasonable and the food, service, and charming atmosphere will have us returning soon.

One of the best hispanic spots I've come across. The staff is really engaging, the food is amazing. I recommend the cheese and guava empanadas if you have a sweet tooth for guava. And alongside it I ordered the picadera. Its best enjoyed with others and both plates were filling enough for 3 of us. We had drinks, including the bulldozer with mango and another one with passion fruit. On the sweet side but not overpowering since it comes with a corona flipped over the drink. The music is very energetic. Even though the crowd isn't energetic, they make room at around 10:30 so people can get up and dance. I'm saying hispanic spots because mostly hispanic people such as myself come here. Its very welcoming to anyone, but since most of the music played is in spanish (regeton, bachata, tipico, merengue) with a mix of english music, most folks happen to also be latino too. The staff is very friendly, and seems to know a lot of the folks that come to the restaurant, most likely regulars. Overall, I come here at least once a week or a couple times a month because its very chill, might be a little loud towards midnight and going forward, but its definetly changed from what it was like 2 years ago! read more

Thankfully, I reached out through Instagram and was able to confirm our reservation for 15 people at 3 PM. We called around 3:05 PM to make sure they were open, arrived around 3:15 PM, and were seated right away. The table was already set with ice-cold water and cups, which was a nice touch. Since it was a Wednesday, they had some great specials including empanada and wing deals, all-day happy hour margaritas for $10, and $4 house shots. Most of our group took advantage of those deals. I tried the passion fruit margarita and enjoyed it, although some others felt it was a little too sweet. We definitely ordered several of the house shots as well. Three people ordered the picadera platter to share, and it was large enough for about four people to enjoy comfortably. I ordered the canoa, a sweet plantain stuffed with ground beef and cheese. It came with sour cream already on it, which I wasn't expecting, but the flavor was still good. I would have preferred it served on the side. I appreciated that the kids' sodas were served in cups with lids and straws instead of cans. My father-in-law ordered the pork chops and enjoyed them. One of my sons ordered wings and empanadas. The wings were tasty, but the empanadas were disappointing because they barely had any meat filling. A friend ordered the chicharrón bites served over a large plantain with guacamole and really liked them. One thing that surprised us was the price of a tequila sunrise. It wasn't part of the happy hour menu, and when the bill came it was $18 per drink, which felt pretty expensive. The restaurant itself was clean, the staff was friendly, and the bathrooms were spacious and well-maintained. They also offer hookah, but because we had children at our table, they asked our family member to move to another table to smoke, which I thought was a thoughtful decision. For dessert, two of the kids ordered churros with ice cream and absolutely loved them. The graduate received a slice of tres leches cake and enjoyed that as well. Overall, the experience was pleasant. My biggest complaint was that our food did not come out at the same time. Some people had finished eating before others even received their meals, which was frustrating for such a large group. The drinks were decent, and the food was a bit hit-or-miss depending on what was ordered. I'd say it was about 50/50 on whether people loved their meals. On both visits I found the women to be friendly and no bad vibes.... Friendly enough I could go alone and enjoy. The worst part of this review was that it took me too long to try this spot. Hopefully they manage their staffing issues and have many more years of success. I will be back!

Appetizer Jerk wings- Hands down the favorite of the meal. They were packed with bold flavor--spicy, savory, and just the right amount of heat. The seasoning was spot on and the wings were cooked to the perfect texture. Every bite was juicy, flavorful, and left you wanting more. A true standout. We also can't forget the special sauce on the side--creamy and slightly sweet, it paired nicely with the wings and helped balance the heat. That said, the wings were so flavorful on their own, they didn't even need it. Entrees The Calypso Shrimp- Was beautifully presented as a standout dish. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, juicy, and coated in a sweet and spicy secret sauce that had just the right kick paired with creamy garlic mashed potatoes. It wasn't super busy, but I believe the staff on hand are always attentive, pleasant and welcoming. The food is Trini-Guyanese inspired and delicious. My daughter and ex ordered the oxtail dinner, which they very much enjoyed. I had a little taste and very much enjoyed the flavors. The portion was good and filling. I ordered the Jab Jab pasta with shrimp and was very happy that it wasn't dry. The spice in the cream sauce was slight but good. I was very hungry, so I sadly did not have a to-go plate. To demonstrate the high level of attentiveness from the staff, we never announced that we were celebrating a birthday, but they came out with a slice of yummy cheesecake (and I don't like cheesecake) for my baby girl. I plan to visit when it's warmer, so I can enjoy the backyard space.
