First Time Trying Bon Chon in this location. I love Bon Chon and I Have tried it at many different locations like South San Francisco, but this Bon Chon Location is ruining their reputation. Bon Chon Corporation needs to shut this place down, we purchased their Soy Garlic Chicken bone in and it is cooked surrounded by thick hard batter and the soy garlic sauce they dipped their wings in was horrible, had after taste. It was not the same Bon Chon Chicken I love. Their Japchae noodles tasted super bland. It was horrible, I honestly wasted money. I should have listened to all the horrible comments I read on here, but wanted to give benefit of the doubt. I'll start off by saying I love Korean Fried Chicken. I've eaten at many different Bon Chon locations and some are better than ones. This location was pretty good overall. Food: First thing I noticed after walking in was the menu was different than other locations. I ordered 12 bone-in wings 1/2 spicy and 1/2 soy garlic. There was a good amount of sauce on the wings (some locations don't put enough). The soy garlic wings were a little more salty than I would have liked. The thought the spicy wins were much better. I also got an order of potstickers 1/2 spicy and 1/2 soy garlic. The potstickers were pretty good, comparable to other locations. They had a chicken sandwich on the menu that I would have tried but it was $13. That id way to much for a single chicken sandwich. Service: there was no one there and the food came out pretty slow. The cashier was also not super nice. Not rude, just not very friendly. Ambiance: This is not a location you want to eat in at. I went by yesterday and ordered $38 worth of wings. I asked the clerk if I could get all flats he told me no they had to be mixed when I got home. I had all drumsticks and the food was horrible. My husband ate one piece of chicken and we threw the rest of it was terrible. We will never go there again.. there was a weird smell in there. It wasn't clean. I am glad that more dining options are coming into our East County area, so I want to support our local restaurants. I have never been to a Bonchon's franchise, but my daughter frequented it often when she lived in Fremont. I called to order as I usually do to restaurants, but they do not take phone orders! That was a minus in my book because I hate to give my credit card info over the phone, address, etc just to order food! Too much personal info going out there these days and older people than me often don't order online so I didn't like this and hope they will change it, which will increase their traffic. One star deducted for that inconvenience. When I went in, there were about 5-6 people or couples waiting with outdoor seating and a couple of tables inside. A customer was very irate that she ordered online, but they didn't get it but charged her and wanted her to pay again! She refused and wanted corporate numbers, etc. I was worried after that, but luckily mine came out fine and no issues other than my box of chicken falling off the stack of boxes. I knew it was mine because whenever I go somewhere it is always MY stuff that is doing something funky-Murphy's law! Luckily, I am not picky on how it looks or anything, as long as it tastes good, I am good! And this was good! I ordered 1/2 and 1/2 wings( spicy/soy garlic). My daughter says this place did not double fry it for a crispier texture like other Bonchons. It was crispy enough for me, and I still liked the flavor. She also said it is much spicier at the other places, but they may be adjusting to the Brentwood palate which I think will be better for this particular area. It was still spicy but mildly so, not "burn your a$$ hot!" like I call it! I ordered drumsticks in soy garlic which is fine like for dinner, but I think the sauces translates better in the wings. The drumsticks were plenty meaty though and good-3 stars-ok. Bulgogi fried rice was decent-3.5 stars there. Potstickers were all good- liked the spicy and even plain. It is completely deep fried not partially steamed/fried like in Chinese restaurants. 3.3 for potstickers. I always wanted to try Korean corn, and it was similar to elote in Mexican restaurants with cheese and green onions and what looked like pieces of bacon possibly. This tasted like canned corn or possibly frozen, but there was some off aftertaste. It was ok, but that off taste kind of turned me off. So 2.5 stars. So overall, I would give it a 3.4- honestly better than just ok, but not yet to very good. It is essentially fast food fusion so better than your regular fast food joint. I like to have fried chicken once or twice a year, but KFC and Popeyes don't do it for me, so this may be my go-to( will have to try the plain as well). Once you have had excellent real Chinese garlic fried chicken I grew up with, it is hard to beat and harder to find. So this will have to do til I find the holy grail of fried chicken! This location isn't it. I had Bonchon for the first time while at the Metreon and it was surprisingly delicious for a chain restaurant. I was impressed by the flavor of their veggie fried rice and perfect rice-to-veggie ratio was all I needed to get through the day. But that's one of the problems that plague some chains: the lack of consistency. I stopped by this location some time later, craving the savory rice I had once known, and was super disappointed by what I ended up with. The rice at this spot had an off-putting flavor and the grease factor was on ferocious. I was hoping to grab a nice little meal for myself and it just didn't go as planned. Went here on their grand opening. I'm so glad there's Bonchon where we live. The first time I tasted Bonchon was a few years back when I was in Thailand and we absolutely loved it. We ordered soy-garlic wings and Bul-gogi tacos. Both were amazing! The chicken was crispy and not over seasoned and the tacos was plenty big. It was savory and seasoned well and the cabbage added a nice crunch. I would have given it 5 stars but after we ordered, we were told it was a 1.5 hour wait. Not very lively inside the store, there was no music playing. Bonchon is now hiring. Not many drinks placed in the front next to the registers. There are two tables inside the store. So, I tried this for the first time, just a little over a month ago and I've been lightweight obsessed. Ive had it 3-4 times since then! It's something about the soy garlic wings and the pickled radish cubes that make Bon Chon wings stand out for me! It's absolutely intentional, those flavors are great together! The fries are fresh and hot (and I've door-dashed it and it's still hot and fresh). The cheese corn is good, could use a little more cheese (luckily I had some mozzarella at home). This place ALWAYS give you so little sauce on the chicken they might as well not give you any sauce at all. We've given place a few chances, but we've gotten chicken with almost no sauce on it EVERY SINGLE TIME even after asking for extra sauce. Our boneless chicken tenders were dried out and chewy. Definitely a lot of tendon included in them and not trimmed. I have had Bon Chon quite a few other times at other locations and it's always been pretty good. The other times I've ordered from this location my chicken was much better. If the review was for the food alone, it would have been a five star review. We ordered the family meal half/half with fried rice, fries and pickled radish, and added on a family sized street corn, japchae, Japanese mayo and Korean spicy sauce, and a 12 piece half & half boneless wings. The staff members we spoke to were kind and patient with us as we explored the menu for the first time. We waited a while, but didn't mind as there were orders ahead of ours and some delivery drivers stopping in to pick up orders as well. Fast forward to home. We start digging in. There was a large box with the chicken from the combo meal. Two smaller boxes of French fries. Plastic containers with fried rice, japchae, street corn, radishes and sauces, but no boneless wings. We were already home & didn't want to go back from Pitt to Brentwood again on a Monday night. I figured no big deal, we will call & let them know what happened and they will make it right. We were prepared to go back the next day to pick up the chicken so they didn't lose the sale. In their defense, they did end up offering us a refund for the missing chicken, but not before insinuating that we lied about it and that they remembered putting the chicken in our order because three people check the outgoing orders. So I used to drive to Stockton to get this chicken and was never disappointed. When this spot opened I was excited as it was close to my house. First time here was in September. Came in and placed a big order to go. Waited 45 minutes for it and when we got home our order of bulgogi fried rice was missing. Needless to say I was not happy especially because the individual that packed the bags repeated the order back to me when they handed the bags over. I called and was told "oh sorry. you can come and get it in 30 mins". Uh no....I gave them a pass because it was busy. This time I ordered ahead online. Was told it would be 35 minutes which i was ok with since I was still at appt in the area. I arrive at the time I was told "it will be 5 more minutes". 20 mins later and I'm still waiting. While sitting here I've seen 4 people walk in, place an order and receive their order. When I questioned the cashier where my order was as I had ordered im advance and had been waiting, she replies " your order is there it will be 5 more minutes" (seems like this is her standard response) I finally got my order after waiting 30 mins -This was 30 mins AFTER the time I was told it would be ready when I ordered online. Last night we stopped to get a sandwich for my husband at the cheese place and I wanted something less cheesy. I was excited to see a Korean spot and went in to get me some bibimbap. Oh boy what a disappointment. There was barely any food in the box, I waited for near 20 minutes (at 8:30 pm), and paid just over $20. Just the size was pitiful but the biggest disappointment came when I opened the box. A small amount of rice, dried up scrambled egg, some lettuce, a tablespoon worth of pieces of chicken, a forkful of steamed spinach and I think there was a few slices of mushroom. They could have assembled this in 1 minute flat. Nothing looked like it was just cooked. And it tasted awful. So disappointing. Won't be going back.
