My friends and I ordered Bibimbap and half&half(soy sauce and spicy) drumsticks. And let me tell you, the chicken was NOT AUTHENTIC at all. Nobody should call that Korean chicken. It was greasy, dry, expensive, and the sauce was terrible. When it says "spicy" at a Korean restaurant, we expect something with Gochujang, not something that tastes like Sriracha sauce. And I think it is overpriced for that quality and portion - about 30 including tip for 10 pieces of drumsticks which were way too small to share among three people. Bibimbap by itself is a three star. I was originally going to give a one star for this review, but decided to add one more because of Bibimbap. You can definitely find a place that serves better Bibimbap if you go to Durham or Raleigh, but this is the only choice you got in Chapel Hill and it is just ok. I was really excited for Bonchon and so were my friends who have had the authentic Korean chicken before. I guess Bonchon is just okay if you have never tasted Korean chicken before, but don't get your hopes up too high if you have. read more

I love Bonchon! The staff is always so friendly and their wings are unmatched! My go to is half Sweet Crunch (limited time) and half Spicy wings. It's location on Franklin Street is a quick and easy walk from campus, which is definitely a plus as well! Can't wait to go back! read more

Fried chicken wings are always delicious. Don't get the bulgogi. More onions and veggies than meat. A few pieces of meat and a whole bunch of onions and mushrooms. Visited for the first time today in-between classes and must say that the food was excellent. Note to the non-spice inclined: the spicy sauce used for the potstickers and chicken is a *bit* hot! Perhaps not for an individual fond of spicy food, but even I was a bit taken aback by the bite it had (but in the best of ways! It's also a tad sweet). They run a special for $2 off select starters (shumai, popcorn shrimp, or potstickers) in conjunction with a purchase of a drink, and it was a great small bite. Been wanting to try this place after hearing about Korean fried chicken and never having it before. Pretty disappointing - if this the best ever as some say on here - then, I'm done ever trying it again anywhere! First off - pretty expensive - for two of us - $50 - that is with a couple of starters and fried rice to share. The shrimp shumai (steamed) was probably the best thing we had. The takoyaki was strange - fried dough with some pieces of octopus - would not get again. Had the combo chicken and strips. As people have noted - pretty dry - very light on the sauce. The spicy is not really very spicy. Just ok on the crispiness. The strips are not really strips like you think of - they are pounded pieces of chicken breast - kind of flat - making them even drier when fried. The fried rice was nothing special - not much flavor. All in all - not very good and was expensive. Tried it.........that's about it. read more

The tables seated after us received their food while we still waited for ours. After the waitress told us 'five more minutes' for the third time, we asked them to box up our food so we could take it to go. This seemed to slow them down even more. We tried Bonchon's Chapel Hill location for lunch having previously enjoyed their new store in Greensboro. Immediately we felt the place was a little old and worn especially compared to Greensboro. The hostess and waitress were friendly and attentive. We ordered potstickers and boneless wings, half sweet crunch and half soy garlic. The food was prepared quickly and when it reached our table, the waitress explained the red toothpick marked the hot wings. Since we did not order hot wings, she quickly took them away to have the order corrected. A few minutes later she returned with the soy garlic wings on a smaller plate and said the kitchen was preparing the sweet crunch wings. To our surprise after another few minutes, a large plate was returned to us with the same wings scattered about and we were told the order was right all along. I was not happy with our food being run back and forth and re-plated but we ate it nonetheless. Quality was ok but nothing remarkable. Our daughter enjoyed the potstickers. The chicken was crisp but is was frankly hard to tell the seasonings apart. Where this location really falls short is presentation. Food presentation was poor, especially the way ours was taken back and forth, and the restaurant itself could use some freshening up. The bathrooms were dirty and the men's had a clogged sink drain with standing water. I doubt we will return to this location again but maybe Greensboro. We still enjoyed a great day in Chapel Hill. read more

I would have given this place zero stars if I could. The experience my friends and I had at this place was painfully miserable. We waited 30 minutes after giving our drink order to our waitress before having to ask again for our drinks and if we could place our food order. They finally brought our waters over and two of my friends beers. They waited another 10 minutes before they brought me my beer, which was expired. I had to inform them of this once I got their attention 10 minutes later, and it turned out that every single bottle of this kind was expired. After this, we still waited over an hour for our food to come out. Our food came out cold. I do not blame the server, as she and one other were staffing the entire place. The cause of our issues were because of poor management. It is disappointing because, while the food came out cold, overall it was very delicious. Definitely will not return ever again. Outrageously delicious wings. I tasted the wings when my son ordered them for a Super Bowl party. We've been debating who has the best wings, Bonchon won. I didn't know they had a restaurant other than New Jersey and was pleasantly surprised when I found one on my visit to Chapel Hill. The wings as I said were perfect juicy falloff the bone meat with a finger licking coating. Pot stickers were awesome and even though I bought enough food to take leftovers with me the potstickers didn't make it out. The generous portion of fried rice was just as tasty. The wings are so good! We always do half spicy and half soy garlic. The other food is hit or miss though. Sometimes it's good, and other times it's not. For instance, the first time I ordered the bimbimbap, it was pretty good. The second time, it was a bowl of mush when I started mixing it - the rice was WAY overcooked and the stone bowl was barely warm which means you don't get the crispy bits that the hot stone bowls usually give you. So definitely go, but maybe just stick with the fried chicken. read more

It's a Friday and me and two friends are excited to to try a Korean Twist on fried chicken. We arrive around 8:30 PM and it's moderately crowded but there are still several open tables. We've been talking about trying this place for several weeks now since we go to the bar next door. We had a small dinner so we decided to order something small, the shrimp shumai 6 pcs, and the small combo 3 drumsticks 6 wings. We ask for the shrimp shumai to be fried instead of steamed (it's one of the options) and the wings to be both spicy and soy. About 15 minutes after waiting our server brings us udon noodles and some other random plate. We tell him our order again and he brings out the shrimp shumai steamed and not fried after 5 minutes. After waiting for another 25 minutes or so we ask the host if our food is ready. She goes and gets our server and he says it isn't ready yet. It's now taken 45 minutes to make 9 wings. Meanwhile, there are several orders coming out of the kitchen and the table seated in front of us has also received their food. We finally get our food and I have to say I did enjoy the wings but not the experience. If their wings weren't as good as they were I would have given them 1 star. I don't know if I was more disappointed in their service or just because i had such high hopes for this place. If I ever decide to go back it will be solely based on their food. I would suggest take out or just skipping this place all together. Their service was just bad. Just be ready to wait. read more

The food was very delish but the lady who seems to be the owner is rude. We ordered door dash delivery and she they forgot to pack the sauce for our bibimbap bowls which everyone knows the sauce is a crucial component for the meal. Door dash cannot check the food before delivery or even open package because they are not food safety certified. I called the store to let them know the mistake and the lady said sorry I forgot you can just come back to get it. Ummm, no. We ordered through door dash so we didn't have to drive to the store. i can't keep myself away. before quarantine I went several times. the chicken is always amazing. the potstickers and shrimp shumai are also so yummy. i really love the kimchi. recently i have been ordering it as take out. i tend to just get the spicy strips, but the garlic soy are really good too. my boyfriend really likes the slaw, and the chicken stays nice and crispy on the way home. read more

Quilan is one of the most professional and friendly waiters I've ever had.
