Came here for the chicken but ended up staying for their diverse menu including a great selection of appetizers. The place was packed even on weekdays but the service was prompt. We ordered spicy chicken drumsticks and salmon avocado for appetizer. Both turned out to be amazing. Wish it was open earlier that covers lunch time as well. Absolutely terrible experience. Went inside to get on order from Bonchon( Glenview) and was let down again. I had a bad experience the time before with the quality of the chicken so upon receiving my order this time I checked my order before walking out. The chicken was nothing but dry skin with barely any meat!!! The whole order was inedible, to the point where it was borderline unhealthy for a human to consume. I didn't complain the first time this happened due to the fact that accidents happen or sometimes quality control may be difficult to maintain every single day/ moment. I myself am a business owner in the food industry so understand accident can happen,but upon telling the cashier who actually rang order up, she responded with * I can't give refunds with out a receipt. Well, id love to give you the receipt had I received one to begin with. Chef offered me another order with more pieces but at this time it was just too late. I'm walking out nothing... no chicken and no my refund. I'm very disappointed. This location was amazing when they first opened, we went multiple times a week. We ordered japchae for pick up few days ago. I had previously tasted their japchae from a different location, and it was really good. Unfortunately the one i ordered from glenview was very salty. I had to cook it again and put some maple syrup, but still was salty i had to throw it away. I called the store and was told from the chef that they make it a bit salty.i told them it wasn't a bit salty, it was very salty. But i was told that thats how they make it. They offered to give me 25% off on the next purchase, but i just declined. I don't think i would come back to eat something like that. I thought its a franchise and should taste all the same wherever the location is. But i guess this location is different. I gave 3 stars because their chicken has always been good. I had Bonchon chicken years ago in NYC, and it really was amazing. So imagine my delight when they opened this location and one in Chinatown. While my go-to for Korean style chicken has been Crisp in Lakeview, I'm thankful that I don't have to drive into the city when I need to have my chicken fix. I went on a Sunday and Thursday night, and both times, it wasn't too crowded. Clean interior and there's plenty of attentive servers. It's a good idea to go up to the cashier to ask to be seated because there's a separate little sitting area where people wait for take-out. I've shared the medium combo (wings and drumstick) with my friends, and have order the dduk bokee and chapchae. The dduk bokee has cheese on it, and it does have a slow heat that definitely builds (so for those of you that don't have a high threshold for spice, just be aware). The chapchae noodles were delicious - various vegetables mixed with clear noodles..chewy yumminess. Then of course, the chicken. The soy is my favorite (my friend really liked the spicy). The crunch and crispiness of the outside followed the juicy and succulent meat is SO perfect. Balance it with the crunch of the lightly pickled white radish and a cold refreshing beer, and voila, you've had your chimaek experience. They already opened 5 weeks, what a big mess and unorganized place, first of all when I walked in to the store, there were people waiting in a small aisle so I'm not sure where to make the orders, after I walked through crowds, I finally found out where to make my orders I chose to make a to go order since I didn't see any seats available in store, after I done with my order, the server walk away and didn't even tell me what my order number and an estimate waiting time, after 5 mins I finally saw a server came out and I asked her what's my order number is and she told me it will be my phone number for carry out and she didn't know how long I have to wait. Wow! Better than Buffalo Wild Wings to be honest with you. We ordered the salmon avocado ball, which was bomb! I recommend getting one for each person, can't share this goodness. My fiancé and I are new to the area and so we're trying a bunch of new places. When we walked in, two of the three servers were putting an order in and it looked like training. No big deal! But it took a minute and we weren't greeted really. While we were walking to our seats I thought I had stepped in something sticky because my flip flop was making the most obnoxious sticky sound as it unstuck from floor. The floor was so sticky that I was embarrassed to walk to my table by the noise I was making. It took well over seven minutes for our server to come to our table and even then we felt we had to flag him down. No pleasant greeting, down to business. Which was fine, we knew what we wanted. He made it a point to tell us the kitchen wa backed up and my fiancé's chicken wings might not come out with everything. No problem, but we wanted the apps first and he could bring the soup when it was done. We got the seasoned fries, sliders, udon and 24 piece wings. The season fries were bland, I didn't really taste any special seasoning. Sliders and udon had great flavor! I wanted an egg on the udon and he showed me to get it "on the side" so it would be only a $1 opposed to more. The wing sauce was spicy but nothing big, it over powered the flavor of the chicken. It was however beautifully crispy. My fiancé ended up drinking both our drinks to get the spice out. We had to again flag down our server as he was wiping down tables to get more water. We got some to-go boxes and the bill. Good lord, 65$ for what we ordered. That was the nail on the head, the service was poor, the food decent but unfortunately we won't be coming back. read more

Wow, this is the best Korean fried chicken we've had in a long time! We ordered the large platter of the half-half (half spicy and half garlic/soy). The outside was perfectly carmelized and crisp and the inside was juicy and tasty. The spicy was not that spicy to our palate but was a little spicy to the kids, but they still loved it. The chicken comes with cubed, pickled radishes that provide a nice tangy balance to the chicken wings. We also had the udon and the bulgogi sliders, and they were both great. This is the first restaurant in that Lake/Milwaukee business complex that is really good and worth going back to. The service was great too. Highly recommend! read more

Good but not thaaaat great. The servers are friendly but inexperienced. They seem frazzled, but seem to be trying their best, which is appreciated. Chicken is crispy but they're not evenly coated with sauce. The spicy chicken was sometimes spicy but the next bite of the same wing or drummette would be flavorless. Not a huge deal. Over all, good chicken. It'd be a nice option to get fried chicken with dipping sauces but then maybe this isn't the place to order something like that. Wait times are long. I suggest getting there before they open to avoid a wait. read more

Just tried this place with my husband based on the reviews and they did not let us down. We had the medium size wings- half and half with the fried rice. My 4 year old loved it all, including the coleslaw that came with the wings. My husband tried one of the beers-Cess. He said it was good but he did not pay attention to the size, it was huge. We've been wanting to try it out because we like Korean chicken and always try it out when a new place opens up. Also, I had a Korean friend tell me this was meh and a non Korean friend tell me it was good. I had to see for myself. The chicken was just okay for me only because I prefer the traditional Korean style (the sweet and spicy kind and regular fried) instead of Bonchon's spicy and soy garlic. But I have to say, they were really crispy and not soggy at all. Service was really lacking. Unfortunately most servers looked like they did not want to be there and they did not smile once. We were a party of 2 adults and 2 babies and the kids were not offered any water or silverware even though I ordered fried rice and shumai appetizer for their meal. Fried rice was good but the shumai was really bad. Once the shumai arrived, I asked for 2 forks so the kids could eat them. Then, when we got our order of chicken wings, I asked for 2 more forks and server said, 2 MORE? with a very unpleasant look. YES 2 MORE FORKS. A bit later when one baby was drinking my husband's water and I only had a cup of soda, I asked for one more cup of water because the other one wanted some too. This time was a different server - he either didn't want to give me another cup of water or he was surprised that we needed one more cup of water. Either way, it was so unpleasant to be there by now, we were in a hurry to finish up and leave. The same guy took one of the plates away the minute I put my silverware down and I didn't like that either. My husband got up and left with the kids as i waited for my check. Maybe a manager and a server were looking and pointing my way while they talked. It seemed like they were taking about how to arrange the tables to seat some people that were waiting to be seated. Again, just unpleasant to be pointed towards at. Overall, probably not the smartest idea on my part to go here with the kids but regardless, by far the worst dining experience in a long time. Personally, I think this place is slightly overhyped. I will only speak abut their chicken as this is the only thing I got and have no idea about other items on their menu. The chicken is good but it's way overpriced comparable to other Korean places. For reference, I ordered the combination of 15 wings and 8 drumsticks. With tax, that was about $37. Also, I write this review understanding this is still fairly a new business and they're most likely still trying to figure out the ropes. I ordered take out for the first time here and was told there was going to be an hour wait. They assured me that I would be called once my order was ready. An hour and 20 minutes passed and I received no call. When I went back to the restaurant, they told me to wait another 5 minutes. I just didn't understand why it would take this long for an order so I asked an employee near me "Does it usually take this long?" She said they had a long wait time because of the large number of take out orders they had. Again, understandable but I told her it's been an hour and 20 minutes since I placed my order. She even admitted that it shouldn't have taken that long. A manager even came up to me and told me they don't box their chicken because it'll make them soggy. I didn't understand why he was telling this to me. I specifically told him that I placed my order over an hour ago and that his employee told me they would call me once it was ready. I received no call to which I came back but was told there was another 5 minute wait. In the end, we ended up getting a full refund for our order. This was nice of them since I never asked for it so I did appreciate that. My biggest complaint is probably the management. I think once they figure out how to better manage their store, it would have been a pleasant experience overall. With that being said, this place is considerably expensive compared to other Korean restaurants out there. Friday night dinner with 4 others. This place was packed & it required a 30 minute wait which wasn't too bad for dinner service on a Friday. TL;DR: Crunchity, crispity, butterfinger....I mean wings! Awesome texture on the fried chicken with decent sauces. I came for the chicken, not for the other dishes. We were all excited to try this version of KFC because there's major buzz about this chain. We ordered 40 wings of the half & half, 2 ddukbokki, & tonkatsu. Overall, the chicken was extra crispy but not dried out & a great example of what KFC should be. The double frying/corn starch technique is something fried chicken joints should look into, korean chicken or not. As for the seasoning, I wasn't as blown away as I hoped...unless you factor in the salt bomb to my taste buds; get it? "Blown away"?! Haha. The Soy Garlic is definitely bursting with savory flavor on the first bite but then the saltiness kicked into overdrive & the garlic was muted because I could only smell the garlic after the bite. Granted, I tend to think most things are salty but my friends also agreed this was a bit too much. The first wing or 2 are good but eating more wings got old quick. Good thing the trusty, ice cold Cass was by my side. I enjoyed the Spicy much more. It tastes like a gochjang glaze that binds to the crunchy skin. The sauce is hot with a hint of sweetness but it reminded me too much of gochjang and nothing else. I could have dipped the wing in any store bought gochjang and gotten a similar flavor profile. Not saying its bad, but saying it was too familiar. I wouldn't mind going back for the spicy wings, since they don't offer unflavored wings, but I won't make a special trip & wait 30 minutes for a table. I love Korean fried chicken, and make it a mission to try it everywhere in the world. I first had Bonchon in 2016 in Bangkok, all my friends in DC kept raving about how amazing the ones in Arlington were so when I saw it I had to try it. I was in love, really, I didn't think it could live up to the hype, but it way exceeded my expectations. We loved it so much that even though we were only in Bangkok for 3 days we got it another 2 times (just as apt snacks, we still had all the Thai food to eat!). Fast forward to last year, I wouldn't shut up about how much I was craving some more Bonchon (or Crisp from Chicago, still my #1fav In America), and when we were visiting friend in NYC we made them go with us to the location in the Financial District. That was a huge mistake, what a let down, it wasn't even crispy, how embarrassing. Today I randomly looked up if there were any in Chicago yet and was pleasantly surprised to find out yes, and there was one even closer in Glenview!!!! We immediately got in the car and found it, and I am happy to report had a great experience. The chicken is exactly as it should be, crispy with that potato starch crust, sauces on point, and the chicken is succulent and juicy. Only minus one star bc it took forever for our sides to come out, so we were pretty much done, but honestly since I had the chicken I really didn't care that much. The fries were also good and crispy, my boyfriend liked the Korean tacos. They also forgot my kimchi coleslaw, but it was really busy at dinner time, packed with Korean families, so I didn't really mind. I will be back a couple times a month to be sure! read more
