Ordered fried rice for takeout - realized its lunch time but was told they put in the system the regular portion instead of lunch special. The food is exactly the same amount but I was charged $2 more. And they didn't try to fix the problem at all. Will not go back. Business' ethic is more important and it's easy to win or lose customers' trust because of that. For those love wings, there are plenty of better Korean wings in the area. read more

Not all Bonchon are the same, unfortunately. We go to the Bonchon in Bolingbrook often and food is great, service fast and friendly. We stopped at this Glenview location tonight on our way home from an event and it was really disappointing. Server seemed distracted and annoyed (brought one entree and appetizer 15 minutes after everything else and only after we inquired after it, called my spouse "boss" when we asked for menus after sitting for 10 minutes, only refilled completely empty waters after being asked twice.) The chicken was barely sauced and over fried - nothing like what we've had at the other location. They were out of potstickers. Bathroom was disgustingly filthy, like, super gross. I hate to give this place 3 stars, because the chicken is soooo good, but it's overall been alright for the following reasons combined: - drumsticks are 5/5 fantastic. I especially love how the fried skin is so delicate and crispy. It's incredible. - shrimp shumai are 1/5 bad. They tasted sooo fishy I could barely eat one. I've never had anything with shrimp that tasted that bad. - seasoned fries are 4/5. Solid, but don't knock my socks off. They're worth getting as a side. - service has been 2/5 the two times I went to this location. It's basic things like bringing our beers way after our food has arrived, forgetting some sides, not bringing water and then not refilling it. So this place has been on my list for quite some time. And although my meal was takeout it surely did not disappoint. My only criticism on this place was the phone in order. The gentleman does really not give u much of a chance to talk. They have their lingo down. And with the speed he's trying to take the order I'm not sure he's really listening to what you say. In addition, I was on my way for the pickup, and they called me on my cell to tell me my order is ready. Either they're very efficient or a little crazy prompt. Food wise I ordered the combo wing/drumsticks in soy & garlic and traditional sweet crunchy. They were so good & crispy. The soy garlic flavor is very mild. Nothing overpowering. And in order to get that flavor on your palate I'd try that one before the traditional sweet. Both equally delish. We also shared the parmesan fries which were also delish. We got lucky and beat the dinner rush and got seated fast. We order the edamame and pork buns to start. The pork buns had great balance of the pork belly, coleslaw, and sauce for each bun. The edamame was steamed with salt sprinkled on it. We also order the House Fried Rice with Bulgogi. It was a good serving size for my husband and I. We ordered the Medium Combo with soy garlic and sweet crunch. Definitely a good serving for 2 people and we even had leftovers to take home. You can definitely taste the flavors and both are good! Delicious chicken! I highly recommend eating it at the restaurant because I've gotten it as take out and although still tasty, it is not as good because you lose a little of the crispy that you get when you eat the restaurant. The place is clean, the staff are nice and attentive so I will definitely be back. I first tried this place shortly after they opened. The wings were A++. Now? They seem like they're half the size. Drumsticks now seem to be the size of the former drumettes. I ordered an 8 piece lunch special and got TWO tiny drumettes. Less meat and more batter of which was not as crispy as before. I don't know if they have a new supplier, or if it's this location that's lacking but something changed. New management perhaps? I don't know. They even downsized the quantity of their sides. The coleslaw now comes in a tiny container. I tried this place again as I had the same experience earlier this year but gave it one more try thinking the last time was an exception. This will be my last time I eat here. They really shouldn't advertise as being Korean Fried Chicken. This they are no longer. read more

My parents recently moved to Northbrook and I was pleasantly surprised to discover the abundance of Korean Fried Chicken joints within a few miles radius. Every weekend I tried a different place (Bonchon, Choong Man, Paiks), and I thought Bonchon was by far the best of them all. I first experienced the magic of Korean Fried Chicken during my first trip to NYC over 10 years ago, and I honestly wasn't too impressed by Bonchon at the time. It was a little unfair to be surrounded by some legendary powerhouses like Turntable Mad For Chicken and Boka, but the KFC scene in NYC was just so next level. Ever since then, I've been on the hunt for amazing Korean wings in Chicago but for the longest time all we had was Crisp, which wasn't that great in my opinion. Bonchon made a great decision to expand to Chicago and dominate a market that sorely needed some quality KFC options. At first I was happy enough to get Bonchon delivered from Chinatown via Chowbus, but I was elated to find out they conveniently opened more locations in the suburbs. They may not be the Kings of NYC, but they are for sure my favorite Korean Fried Chicken in the Chicagoland area. It's easy to doubt a chain restaurant, but Bonchon is just consistently delicious. The first time we went to this location, we did try a variety of other menu items like the bulgogi, japchae, bimbimbap, etc. At the end of the day, I'd suggest to just stick to the wings. They're just so damn good that I wouldn't waste my appetite on anything else. Bonchon just nailed the exact texture and flavor that I remembered from my New York experiences. Our go-to order is the half and half wings. The wings actually contain a mix of drumettes and wingettes and the "drums" listed on their menu are literally the full size drumsticks, so don't order the combo if you were expecting drumettes instead. Half and half consists of both the hot & spicy and soy garlic flavors. The hot and spicy definitely had a kick to it, but it's not that painful type of spicy. It was that flavorful type of savory spice that keeps you wanting more even though you're building up a sweat from eating it. The soy garlic was on the milder side from both a heat and flavor intensity perspective, but it had the nice balance of sweet and savory. There's just something about Korean chicken wings that put them on another level for me. They just have that awesome crunch from the thin outer shell but it's somehow super light and not at all greasy. That cornstarch and double frying really creates an amazing texture. The skin isn't heavily breaded or battered, and is very thin while at the same time they somehow achieve a light airiness between the skin and the meat that seemed to highlight the juiciness of the chicken. The flavor isn't generated from some heavy sauce that is tossed on the wing, but rather seems to just be baked right into the wing itself. In terms of the meat, it was seriously some of the juiciest chicken in any form I've ever eaten. The unstoppable combination of texture and juiciness is what makes KFC so damn good. Overall, I think Bonchon was best Korean wing in the area. Choong Man was a little too crunchy and heavy on the breading, and Paiks wasn't crispy enough. I hope Bonchon sticks around for a while because I gotta get my fix whenever I'm in the area. read more

I've seen this for a long time but haven't the time to go till today after church with my daughter. I was expecting it to be fastfood but to mu surprise it is a sit down place. The place looks neat and servers seem friendly. They have a lot in their menu like bibimbap, bulgogi, japchae etc and of course different flavors of chicken. Ordered bibimbap with bulgogi for myself and chicken karsu for my daughter who is not adventurous on food. But i want to try their chicken so i ordered the wings with soy and the sweet one. The order was fast. The bibimbap is OK. We both liked the chicken katsu. The chicken wings are so yum! Crunchy with right sweetness and saltiness. I just so full that's why i did not finish them. I would recommend this place but expect it to be a bit pricey. They have big servings anyway. Wish they have half orders :-) read more

I'm a little wishy washy on this place. I came in at noon on a weekday and the place was mostly empty except for a couple tables. Based on all the positive reviews I expected to have to wait, but it was wide open. There was only one server for the tables and the register, and he was at the tables so I had to wait for him to get done with that, then I could place my order. The music was so loud that I couldn't hear the server asking me what side and sauce I wanted with my orders. The lunch combo was all that was offered. Basically three fried chicken choices and nine others of tacos, sliders, rice, bibimbap, japchae, soup and salad, all around $9. the dinner menu has more choices and is more expensive. The chicken is offered in spicy, soy garlic and half & half. I'll tell you that the spicy is very spicy and the half & half is a nice blend of the two, not too hot not too garlicky. The orders are small and maybe a dollar or two pricy. Four chicken legs nine bucks, eight wings nine bucks, two legs four wings nine bucks. They say that it's cooked to order and my food was hot as hell so I would believe that except it didn't take anywhere near the thirty minutes that they warned it would take on the menu. We had two lunch sets, 4 drum sticks, two spicy and two soy & garlic; and 3 bulgogi tacos. Both meals were delicious and packed with flavors. I of course had to get the fried chicken here! I thought the portion size of the chicken tenders was large, but maybe they felt bad for me because I ate by myself (haha). I got the "half and half" which was half spicy and the other half not spicy. The spicy was legit spicy. So Bonchon is great. Why? Because they have amazing chicken! Their soy garlic wings are hands-down my favorite Korean fried chicken in the area. The wings are juicy in the inside and crispy on the outside with perfect amount of sauce. The size of the wings are great and the radishes are a must with the wings! I think their tteokbokki is okay.. nothing too special, but I still end up ordering this with the chicken because it's a nice combination. Service has always been great whenever I've come by to this Bonchon location. Food comes out fast and it's a quick ordering process. I guess if you come around on a busy day, you might experience slower service, but that's definitely understandable. I like the location of this Bonchon because there are plenty of spaces for parking and after dinner, it's fun to head on over to a nearby cafe for dessert. Overall, prices are not super cheap, but the quality of the food always meets my expectations so it's definitely worth the price. This place was empty when we came but the pickup/to go was very busy. We were the only one dined in - we live about 30 minutes so my excuse durijg this pandemic would be my food will be too cold if i chose to take out. We ordered spicy and soy, mostly drumsticks. The drumsticks were large... they were crispy and nothing wrong with them but not a fan ???? This Bonchon is larger than the one in Chinatown and I like this place better because the servers are nicer and friendlier and very responsive to your needs. I also like that cola drinks are refillable whereas in Chinatown the drinks come in cans so they charge you for each drink. The fried rice and Korean tacos are good but not enough meat in the taco and too much cabbage. I love their chicken of course which is what you come here for. The bathrooms are trendy and clean. And they have a few high top tables besides the traditional tables if you like the higher setting. The menu at both places I think are the same. read more

But to that I'd say it should be served with some type of ranch sauce in addition to whatever it comes with now. The chicken is not heavily breaded or at all with a nice crispy texture coated in your choice of spicy or non-spicy (I think it was garlic? Or miso.) I really enjoyed the spicy fried chicken because it was not overwhelmingly spicy but still had a bit of heat. I also recommend the pork belly baos and bulgogi fried rice to share if you come with a group. I did not think I would like the bulgogi fried rice but the bulgogi was so good and tender! Glenview location is right next to several other Korean restaurants. Bonchon was the only one that was empty and my wife mentioned it to me as we walked in. The other places were packed. However, I heard good things about the chicken. They were not wrong, the chicken is great! Unfortunately I couldn't eat any of my entre because I pulled out a long thin hair from the first fork full of food. Literally tossed the entire container of food. I'm hungry and disappointed. What am I supposed to do? Let them buy me another meal full of hair? I just wanted some quick dinner. Grrr. read more
