Some of the other stuff I've had: the fried pickles, udon, fried rice, fries, etc are just ok. Here's the biggest issue with this location: the service sucks. Super bad. Last week, the guy gave us a cracked water glass that was gushing before we even got to the table. It just poured everywhere and we had to flail to get attention. We had to ask for more water. We had to ask for more napkins (because we used ours to mop up the water). He forgot our kimchee totally. This week when we were in, they forgot our fried rice until we finally reminded him. Delicious food however I almost gave it three stars due to the poor value. Maybe I am too cautious with our hard earned money however spending nearly $55 on 15 pieces of carryout fried chicken (10 wings + 5 drumsticks) plus a small bibimbap and a small side ($2.50) of bulgogi meat seems like WAY too much. My guess is that smart chef competitors will come out of the woodwork once Covid restrictions are lifted and restaurants can open without fear of not having enough customers to survive. Everything tasted great, and the drumsticks were still relatively crispy even after arriving there to see that they were completed early and sitting on the counter (even though we were given a 45 minute wait time to come pick them up and we arrived 10 minutes early) and driving 10 minutes to get home before we dove into them. Eaten on site they must be fantastically crisp. The chicken coating was light and sauces were flavorful with nice heat on the spicy (although I always want more!) and tasty but not quite to die for on the soy garlic version. The side of bulgogi meat for $2.50 was very classic in flavor (soy, sesame and sweet) albeit quite a bit oily and as expected a very small side portion. We ordered the bibimbap without rice or quinoa since we follow a lower carb lifestyle, and now I think next time I would ask for the wet ingredients to be separated from the raw components so that the lettuce doesn't wilt so much without having rice to soak up the juice. The only other thing that really bothers me most is that you have to buy in 10 wing increments and also five piece increments on the larger chicken pieces. Since I haven't eaten on site and don't really know that much about this concept it probably has to do with batches of chicken being refried to order since Korean fried chicken is classically double fried, however as they grow and get more competition I think they're going to need to change their offerings to allow for maybe two, three or four portions per order, 5 big pieces and 10 wings is just too many as a multiplier! Perhaps I would return and eat on site if a double fried Korean fried chicken craving overwhelmed me. Watch your budget though - the costs add up quickly! read more

I'm so glad the Chicago area finally has 2 Bonchons. I use to only eat it when I was visiting DC. I stopped in Bonchon after a shopping trip at Woodfield mall. The restaurant wasn't busy when i went at 2pm on a Saturday and service was fine. Food came out within 15 min. I got the combo chicken (half spicy and half soy garlic) - the chicken had crispy skin and juicy meat. The spicy isn't actually very spicy if you're use to eating spicy food but there was a hint. I normally get the pickled radish but opted for the coleslaw this time around. It was nothing special just your standard coleslaw side. The seasoned fries were good and crispy but didn't have that much seasoning. I definitely recommend eating Bonchon in the store vs take out. By the time you get home the chicken will lose a lot of it's crisp. read more

This spot finally opened after being closed for in door dining. I love the modern aesthetic of the restaurant. The chicken wings we ordered were great! The sauce was flavorful. The food isn't anything to brag about, it's too Americanized and fast food style so it's very salty. I felt very bad for the one girl who was working because she was the hostess, cashier, busser and server. All tables were pretty full but the wait was long since she was the only one. After trying this in the Philippines a few months ago for the first time (why did I wait so long!) I finally tried the one here in the States. Since the chain is big in the PI, they look like regular fast food places. The ones in IL are sit down restaurants. It's nice but I think they would've done fine with people serving themselves. Anyway, Ambiance: Rustic feel with industrial lights and reclaimed wood, which is very 'in' nowadays. The ceilings are high and they seem to have a good amount of seating but then again I'm not sure when it gets really busy. There seems to be quite some room in between tables. Service: Our waiter was speedy in taking our orders and checked up on us a good number of times. Food: Not a huge menu but it has what you need. Pretty sure it has more options than the one in the PI. My parents and I started with the Salmon Avocado Ball and followed with the Medium Combo of soy garlic wings with a side of coleslaw. At first I was concerned the Ball would be too savory without rice or noodles, but it ended up being more like a seafood salad. Fresh and delicious! The ingredients really came together. The fried chicken wings were, of course, a hit (and home run)! The skin was crunchy and the chicken not dry. The pieces are a good size so you don't feel cheated. Bonchon is in a competitive strip mall with several other restaurants (including other Asian restaurants) to compete with. But they can compete and thrive at this location. The specialty at this restaurant is their Korean Fried Chicken. We've been here before where there have been long lines waiting to get in. We went on a Saturday afternoon to treat a friend who hadn't been here before. We got the boneless wings with the soy ginger sauce, bulgogi Korean tacos, and pork buns. The boneless wings were overcooked and tough. It may have been better if we got the wings with bones. The bones often help guard against overcooking. The soy ginger sauce was salty instead of the sweet flavor that you would expect. the bulgogi tacos were a pleasant surprise. The thinly sliced meat was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The addition of the coleslaw added another flavor. The pork buns was another excellent choice. The buns were reminiscent of the bao but with much less breading and more fillings. The pork belly was crispy and the coleslaw help to cut through the fat in the pork. If the other menu items are this good, I can't wait to go back and try the others. read more

Had a great meal at Bonchon! Delicious Korean tacos. Tried fried octopus for the first time and it was a pleasant surprise. Umer was friendly and helpful and served our food quickly. Great place and reasonable prices. Next time I'll try the fried chicken that they're famous for. Tonight I just got too full to order more. I'll also try the little donut that I heard was amazing! Not really sure why this place has so many low reviews. The staff was friendly, the food was delicious and I was able to get a table right away. We weren't that hungry and only ordered their 20 piece wings (medium) for $23.95. You get your choice of spicy or soy garlic, or both. I chose the half and half and very surprised at that they put on the table. You get these neatly stacked wings on steroids. They both had good flavors, but the spicy was my favorite. Although they weren't as spicy as most people say, they had that kick that added to the flavor. They were perfectly fried with a nice soft crunch to every bite. The soy garlic wings were also very tasty. I don't really taste much soy or garlic in the wings but still had a nice flavor to them. The only downside is that they open at 530 PM during the weekdays so I can't enjoy this wings for lunch. But Without a doubt will be returning shortly. read more

How the heck does this place get a 4/5 star rating? I really want to know Firstly, the store does not give off "clean" vibes. Seriously, look around a little. Take a walk to the bathrooms. It is not offensively disgusting but you will quickly notice cleaning is not a priority. Kind of grubby. Service was ok. Friendly but but not very attentive. We waited way longer than we should have before getting up, finding the server, and asking for the bill. Too busy texting or something - the server was constantly on his phone. Then the food. So disappointing. I really love Korean food and I love fried chicken even more. I did not realize this was a Korean fast-food chain. But that is what it is - Korean fast food. But less fast. And honestly, no one has better fast food than American fast food. This was not as good as American fast food and it was more expensive. I was glad we ordered a small because I could not eat it - just dry. So dry. We left 1/2 of our order on the table. My wife had the Korean tacos. All I will say about those is "nope". If you ignore this advice and decide to go anyway, please make sure you order the seasoned fries. It was only thing we ordered that actually tasted good. The seasoned fries were really quite nice. I might give it a chance again. Like - I might try it if I was in the middle of nowhere and my choices were Subway or Bonchon. But there are a lot better options for Korean food in the area. Came here for their lunch specials on a gloomy weekday. The place wasn't as busy as I would have expected. I ordered the combo (4 wings and 2 drums) and the japchae. The japchae was flavorful and had a bit of juices from the bulgogi in it, more liquids than I'm used to for japchae, but flavorful and not as greasy either. The chicken was delicious, crispy light skin on the outside and juicy, though not overly juicy on the inside. I chose the soy garlic sauce and the flavor was good not too salty or overpowering. My tablemate said that the spicy was pretty spicy. The service was okay, though in my opinion this place doesn't really need full service, but would do well with an order at the counter and then sit down option. A better deal during lunch as 8 pieces of chicken (8 wings or 4 wings/2 drums combo) is only $8.95. During dinner hours that price will jump to $12.95 for 10 wings. The side we chose was the pickled radish, definitely tasted home made as the pickling taste was very mild, I personally like it a bit stronger. If I come back I may just come for the lunch specials. Every once in a while, you run across a restaurant that qualifies as a life altering experience. This could be the first time you try Lou Malnati's Pizza or Stan's Donuts or Not Your Father's Rootbeer. In the world of Korean Fried Chicken, this experience will probably come at Bonchon Chicken. If it isn't obvious that the restaurant is something special by the line to get a table (even if you arrive shortly after 5), once you actually try the food you subject yourself to constant cravings and withdrawl for more immediately. Bonchon simply excels in both flavor and texture to the point where you start judging all food against it. Even though it's easily $20 a person if you try different items, you happily surrender your cash for more of that golden crisp drumstick of deliciousness. To make things better, the presentation of the food is colorful, creative, and neat as well. Bonchon really tries to appeal to your senses of sight, smell, taste, and touch (mouthfeel, textures) all at the same time. Here are my thoughts on the different items I tried: Fried chicken: I think other Yelpers have written very very detailed descriptions of this chicken already, but in case it wasn't clear enough -- if you order one and only one dish here, go for the fried chicken. Both the sweet & savory soy garlic and spicy (this is a bit spicer than American fried chicken) are great options although I prefer the soy garlic preparation just a little more. The meat cooked perfectly tender and falls easily off the bone. The crispy skin is harder to describe as it's not a pure crisp, but kind of a saucy-sticky tempura crunch. Once you've tried it though -- you'll wonder why they don't cook all fried chicken in this delicious method. Double frying may take extra time to create a delicious product, but you'll definitely remember and appreciate the amazing texture it creates. Salmon avocado ball: Don't be fooled by the smaller size of this dish. This is an absurdly delicious combination of avocado, crab meat, cucumber, and fish roe all wrapped inside a deliciously seared shell of salmon. The mix of spicy mayo and unagi sauce really match perfectly with all these elements and a bit of tempura bits are added on top for crunch. If Bonchon ever went into sushi, their rolls would be out of the world just based on the perfect balance and execution I experienced from this dish. Great mix of textures for a very pleasant mouthfeel, in addition to well-calculated flavors. This may sound blasphemous, but this dish might tie the fried chicken in terms of satisfaction. Pickled radish: Lightly pickled and served in a generous sized bowl with a good crunch to it. Given how tasty the food is here, this was the perfect side to accompany everything. House fried rice: Nice soft rice with a good egg flavor, light hint of onion, and an overall sweet soy garlic sauce. A bit plain without adding another meal element to it, but still enjoyable. Seasoned fries; Not sure why this is relegated to a small corner of the sides menu. These fries are seriously crispy with a light mix of house seasoning and parmesan cheese. If you've had Freitkoten or fancy truffle fries, you'll appreciate this delicious dish even more. Chicken katsu: At first I was a little worried about the mix of spicy mayo and katsu sauce -- but the two actually blend together perfectly in this dish. The spicy mayo adds a bit of heat that helps to create a delicious tangy sweet heat to go with this nicely breaded, tender chicken cutlet. The bed of rice was soft and fluffy, with a little touch of sesame oil for flavor. Overall, everyone should experience this delicious fried chicken at least once in their life. It may be pricey and there may be a wait, but you'll forget about both of these after your delicious meal and spend the next day fighting your cravings until the next day they open. Hubby and I have been peeking inside the strip mall that Bonchon is in every time we drive past and it is finally open! The restaurant is on the smaller side so if you come at peak dinner hours you may have to wait for a table. My husband and I stopped in here on a rainy Wednesday evening around 6:45. We have driven by here countless times, and decided to get take out on a whim. The place had a few people in it, but it was a little after the dinner rush. We told the guy at the counter it was our first visit, and that we were getting take out and asked for his recommendations. We ended up going with the Bull Dak, and Fried Chicken with 50/50 sauce. The food was amazing. It was SPICY - way more spicy than we expected, but it was still delicious. The fried chicken was perfectly crispy. I preferred the Soy Garlic wings to the hot wings. The quality of this place has really taken a nosedive throughout the years. Even the kids said "I don't like whoever the new cook is." And they used to love this place. The chicken was tiny, dry, and not crispy at all. This can no longer be considered Korean Fried Chicken. These were American Bar food Buffalo wings with Asian sauce and average at best. The radish was almost minced (never been served Korean pickled radish like that in my entire life). I had to eat it with a spoon because I couldn't grab it with my chopsticks. Both the chicken fried rice and tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) was over-cooked and glutinous. I gave it two stars (one extra star) because we got carry out. If we dined in, maybe it would have been better? But note, we've gotten carry-out a dozen times before and it's never been this disappointing. Okay. So this is the 6th location I have visited in my lifetime and the 2nd I have gone to within the first few weeks of it opening- wanted to put my review in perspective for everyone. Food is good. I LOVE LOVE LOVE their soy garlic chicken wings. I'd be happy with a small order of wings and a side of white rice. That was what I had hoped to order. Hubby upgraded to the fried rice made with bulgogi. We've had it before with the chicken at the Chinatown location but the bulgogi was tastier. My only complaint about the food in terms of taste was they seem to have been a little heavy handed on the red pepper and my issue there is probably more about personal preference. Knocking them down one star because of the timing of our food. Wings came first and we seriously almost went through half our order before the fried rice did. Not the way you want your food to be delivered. Also, folks working hard but not smart here. The staff seemed anxious and almost on top of one another when trying to bus tables, serve, etc. They had mastered the art of not making eye contact with customers. Hoping it's just opening jitters. Be prepared. This location is NOT big so it's not in your best interest to come here with a big party on a weekend night between 6-8 pm. You'll be waiting. Tip- to restaurant staff and/or patrons- look at the menu while you are waiting and be ready to order ASAP once you get seated OR if/when you are 5-6 minutes from being able to seat a party. I love bonchon but this location is not like the others. I should have turned around as soon as i walked in. There is no one ever at this location I now understand why. The place is sooooo dirty it looks like it's never been cleaned the windows are dirty the floor is sticky, the tables, the booths . The bathrooms have NO SOAP so these workers are going to use the bathroom not washing their hands then they go to cook your food !! the server was a guy with airpods in on a call while taking our our order the second he walked away he kept talking on his phone call into his air pods.. next the food comes out the order is wrong we tell the server and he's mad saying no you're wrong you said this . . maybe be would have heard us if he didn't have his airpods in ? so the food it looks nothing like the other locations it's not actually Korean double fried the dough looks raw and my boyfriend found something that looks like a flattened bug or beetle in the rice.. we're traumatized please stay away. maybe they have a new owner within the past few years cause only recently they have been getting terrible reviews. read more

The food i ordered was absolutely AWFUL ive have bonchon in china town and it was great so i ordered the same thing here which was the chicken katsu. The food is exactly the same amount but I was charged $2 more. And they didn't try to fix the problem at all. Will not go back. Business' ethic is more important and it's easy to win or lose customers' trust because of that. For those love wings, there are plenty of better Korean wings in the area. read more

Amazing chicken that did not disappoint. Out of all the wonderful food I had during my time in Korea, chicken was one of the best - they how to do fried chicken! I was really excited to try the soy garlic chicken here, so I got an order of the boneless and my mom got the regular.
