Really enjoyed eating here! I had eaten at the Ellicot City one first and then came to this one next. The chicken here in my opinion was a little chewier in parts than the other restaurant but that may have just been my opinion. I got the soy garlic wings with seasoned fries. The sauce and the fries are great! Would definitely come back. The one thing I did notice is I don't believe the bar has alcohol either, which doesn't affect me but some may find interesting if this area does not have a liquor license. Love the wings here! Portions are insane! My favorite item on the menu, however are the potstickers. Crispy outside lovely flavor punch inside. My only issue is when ordering them to go, they will not allow their special house sauce on the side. Has to be on the potstickers, which during travel can make them soggy! I tried Bonchon chicken the first time in VA. That experience and taste was burned into my brain so when I moved, I seriously considered travelling to VA to experience it again. When I heard it opened up in MD, I was ecstatic! less than 30 miles! So why 4 stars? I tried this location the first time, and the chicken was slightly rare on the inside. This was my first visit to a Bonchon and since I had heard good things about it from friends I was looking forward to it. I was on my own and the host seated me quickly. I was given only the lunch special menu not the full menu so had no descriptions to go on when placing my order. I ordered the bibimap with spicy chicken which was too spicy for my taste. The vegetables were mushy and the chicken was tough. I enjoy bibimap and rice bowls at other restaurants so was surprised that it was so unappetizing. When the server saw that I had only eaten about a third of the bowl she asked if i would like to order something else but did not say that it would be complementary. Wow, absolutely HORRIBLE customer service at this location. I have given rave reviews to the Columbia, Maryland location but looks like others who have visited this establishment had the same experience. I read many reviews talking about how the food quality is not as good and more. I was so excited to eat Bonchon today and my order is pretty specific. I make this order all the time at the Columbia location and they never give me any issues. This time around the order was COMPLETELY wrong nothing was removed nor added per my request and it was clearly stated on the receipt. How can you mess that up? Not one thing was removed nor added from the order and we went INSIDE to make the order it wasn't even over the phone or on an app so what is the excuse? We took the food home only to find that it was completely wrong, I had to call the location and I heard the young lady ask who I am presuming to be the manager what to do. He showed absolutely no remorse and just said we either come back to get a new one or come back to get a refund. So either way we had to drive all the way back to them (what an inconvenience) I'm sorry if you have the ability to charge someone over the phone you have the ability to give a refund over the phone. Unfortunately, I couldn't leave and I was tied in work meetings all day and I truly was upset about the food. I had my friend go back to get a refund and I thought it was only fair that we got a refund for everything for all of the trouble they put us through having to drive all the way back to the establishment. We had ordered the taco which I took one bite out of and couldn't eat it from how bad it tasted and the wings (on top of that we didn't even receive radishes that come with the chicken). The manager (Alex was his name) said that he wouldn't issue us a full refund because we didn't bring the food back. Excuse me? You want to give me just a refund for your messed up order and the trouble for driving back just to obtain that refund? That is not how customer service works. Again, unfortunately, I was not able to discuss this with the manager personally and my friend was in a rush and had to leave, but I am extremely upset and this manager should be trained on proper customer service. Not as good as I remember it in San Jose. They messed up our order, which was fine because they didn't make us pay for the mistake. The service was good and the chicken was pretty good, but also not as good as I remember it. I don't understand their obsession with their sauce. Here's the problem with that: you get your chicken with a little drizzle of the sauce. "Could I get more sauce, please?" No. No, you cannot. They will NOT bring you more sauce. They will take your chicken back to the kitchen (which I'm pretty sure is against some kind of health code), add sauce to your chicken, then bring it back to you. If you want to take your uneaten chicken home, it's going to get all soggy. I probably won't come back. It's just too expensive for the quality. :( read more

The fried chicken is pretty good. Their spicy flavor is spicy enough to leave a lingering numbness in your mouth. The japchae was only okay. I loved that they added a lot of vegetables, but there seemed to be too watery of a sauce that isn't usually how the dish is made. I did enjoy the bimbimbap though. It was on par with most of the other bimbimbap dishes that I've had at more traditional korean restaurants. Overall, I think this is a great place for a unique fried chicken. read more

First, the portion sizes are huge! But not in a bad way. We have plenty of chicken leftover for work lunches the next day. The chicken was exceptionally crispy and juicy. We tried the soy garlic flavor as we were not brave enough to try the spicy. Since this was our first time, we also ordered a couple of appetizers just to get our feel of the place. We ordered the salmon avocado ball, popcorn shrimp, and seasoned fries. The salmon avocado ball was absolutely amazing! It's like a giant roll of sushi. We definitely should have ordered more than one of those. The popcorn shrimp were light and crispy and came with a spicy mayo sauce. The seasoned fries were lackluster. They were soft and not crispy and most of the seasoning was at the bottom of the bowl. I will be visiting again as I wish to try some of the more authentic Korean dishes like the bulgogi. read more

I was told that you were out of all types of chicken.....wings, drums, strips. Really??? I understand if you have shut down the fryers or cleaned up, but then perhaps you should adjust your posted hours. If you have no intention of serving after 9pm, then your website should state that. Just finished my meal.....the wait staff has gotten better(from what I have read from previous reviews). However, my food was ok. A few of my wings were lukewarm and my spicy garlic was just blahhhh. I oftentimes get upset when I find a restaurant whose yelp rating does not match the quality of food and service that it deserves. At the time of my writing, this Bonchon location has 3 stars, and I honestly think that's an unjustifiably low rating and unfair. My family and I love Korean food and we've been to most all the authentic local restaurants in the area, and I can tell you that this place is just as authentic as the rest. We had the takoyaki, kimchi, dumplings, fried chicken tenders, bibimbop, and bulgogi. All were high quality and just as authentic as the local Korean restaurants we frequent in the area. By the looks of it, it seems like a lot of people were frustrated when this place opened because they it was jam packed and the service was slow, but that is no longer the case. The place has their act together and the food is awesome!! In fact I prefer their Korean fried chicken over the other places I've ordered it from in the area. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating was because I believe they may be using MSG in their food, as I felt the MSG coma for about 24 hours after eating here. I think it's the fried chicken, so next time I'll skip that and stick to the bulgogi/bibimbop/ other typical Korean fare. read more

Not sure why this location got bad reviews. I love Bonchon and our favorite location is the one in Gambrills because it's the closest one in the house. The one here in Hanover is the smallest among the 3 locations (there's also one in Ellicot City). I was excited to have a Bonchon this close to me. I went the second day it opened. It was a soft opening as posted on their door. I didn't expect them to be perfect yet. It's smallest Bonchon I've been to compared to others. The decor is interesting. The jars of waters is an interesting twist. The service was good, but it wasn't crowded yet. It was packed by the time we left, which doesn't take much to do. We ordered 30 soy garlic wings and they came out lukewarm, greasy and too salty. This should be the only thing that they should get right above all others. It was disappointing to say the least for their signature dish. The popcorn chicken was dry and also lukewarm. The bibimbop had to be returned due the to the rice being undercooked. The rice pieces were hard, but the waiter try to explain that it's suppose to be that way on the bottom. Yes, we know that, but all the rice was uncooked hard. Also Koreans never use long grain rice. The manager came to apologize and offered us another dish. We declined. Don't worry Mr Owner, I will have to be back at least a dozen more times this year. It's the closest one to my home. Get your establishment together and make this place great. I'll update this review as I go again and again. I'll be getting some wings to go in about an hour, so hopefully they will be better. Update: They are still not taking pickup orders yet. I have yet to visit a bonchon that I like as much as the Elliott City location. Unfortunately, this is still true after visiting the Hanover location. It's much smaller than the other bonchons. I normally love BonChon..I have had great experiences with the one in pasadena but everytime I try the one in hanover which is so close to my job I am disappointed. I always order the same thing...bulgogi korean tacos , plain house fried rice , and edamame...i spent 33 dollars and there was barely any bulgogi on my tacos..couldn't even taste it under the coleslaw...the edamame container was less than half full and same with the fried rice. For prices so high you could atleast fill the container....so disappointing. Then insult to injury i asked for an extra spicy mayo since the one included in my to go box was half full as well...and they charged me 1.00 for another half full cup..im talking 2.oz portion cup half filled so about an ounce for 3 tacos full of slaw. This is third time ive tried this location and each time its just not worth it. Sorry!!! read more

As my friend who just introduced me to,the place said, chicken is their wheelhouse. Their wings are amazing! The pickled radish that comes with them is very good and takes me back to a long closed Asian establishment that served it. I also ordered their bulgoggi but wasn't impressed. It's tasty but not as flavorful as others I have had. Still,the atmosphere is upbeat and clean, servers are friendly, and their chicken wings are the bomb! Hai... I did put four stars. Not sure why it did three. I just corrected the stars rating at least. I was in the following night with my boyfriend and tried the chicken strips since he isn't a wing fan. I was initially impressed with the speed of the service compared to other bonchons. Other Bonchons take about 45 minutes for the food to come out after you order. But the food came out maybe about 15 minutes after we ordered.. My complaint is that I got a mix of drumsticks an wings and the bigger drumsticks were not fully cooked as you could see bits of red/pink on the bone. Honestly, waiting is fine as long as the food is cooked all the way. read more
