The food is still great but the prices are getting absolutely ridiculous, even in these times. Ordered a lunch special wings with fries today. They've cut the order down from 8 to 6 wings while raising the price another dollar from 3 months ago. A 10 piece order of wings is now $18; which is on par with every location near me. Even the chicken strips are priced the same. I've championed BonChon to all of my friends and brought lots of people, but these prices are unsustainable. I *LOVE* the product they put out above any of the several other KFC places that have recently opened. While the Cambridge location may stay open, I predict a short window for their other MA locations in this economy. read more

The BonChon in Lowell has been here for a couple years now and mainly offers Korean fried chicken and Asian fusion apps/entrees as well. I came here after going to Snowdae's next door and we ordered half/half of soy garlic & spicy wings. We also had gotten the salmon avocado ball, at the time, which is one of my personal favorite items that Bonchon offers. The wings were a good size and were tasty! I've gotta say, I've been converted to bb.q chicken lover these last few years but it's always nice to revisit Bonchon's chicken. Been here several times since they first opened in Lowell. A dimly lit place with a bar to watch sports, and several booths and tables to accompany parties or dates. When it comes to crispy and spicy fried chicken, this is the spot to go. Granted they had their years when the spice was not up to par, but lately everything is starting to taste really well, just like during their grand opening. The chicken is so crispy, yet so juicy, and the spicy is spicing. I wasn't a fan of their fried rice before, but it was bussing that night. It's not like Chinese fried rice where the grains don't stick to each other, but like most Korean rice dishes, the rice is moist and mushy and just exerts flavor better. The takoyaki is my favorite! The sauce is zesty and sweet, mixed with the soft and oozy texture of the takoyaki balls, and octopus legs is just perfection. I like that our waitress didn't check up on us every 5 mins, so we were able to gobble up food and converse with each other for an ample amount of time. I never heard of this chain before, on a recent trip to the area I passed this place on the way in and picked it as my dinner joint after a Yelp search. It's fun food and wow the portions are generous. Delicious fresh and creative is a good way to describe Bonchon. I will definitely hit one any opportunity I can. This particular joint had a wonderful friendly staff, the place itself is a neat location and they even have a bar. Nothing goes better with spicy crispy loaded fries like a cold beer. We mainly come to Bonchon Lowell for the Salmon Avocado ball. We've never seen this item on other bonchon locations' menus before and it is definitely a great item. It's crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The sauces they used had a lot of great umami flavor. Another dish we tried was the bulgogi friend rice where the meat was chopped up into small pieces which allowed the bulgogi flavor to be in every bite we had. It was a different way of making fried rice and we enjoyed it, not to mention the portion was very big. The wings were pretty decent but I have seen better wings in other locations/chains. The only dish we didn't like as much was the ttekbokki, it was pretty spicy but the sauce seemed more watery than I've had at other places and didn't stick to the rice cakes as much. The salmon avocado ball is what we came back for but it is pretty pricey for an appetizer. Overall the service was good, our waitress was very nice and it wasn't as busy when we visited so it wasn't too loud. read more

I've been coming here for a while now and this place never disappoints. I've been to the other locations, Boston, Harvard, and NY, and overall they are fairly the same but Lowell has a lot more unique options on their menu compared to the others. I love the fact that this location has a parking lot.. and it's FREE. The moment we walked in we were greeted and asked if we were doing a pick up. We were actually there to dine in then later told it would be a 30 minute wait. Not much to do around there for 30 minutes but we decided to wait outside as we knew it wouldn't actually take 30 minutes. We were called in less than 20 minutes. Before we were seated we were all required to do a touch-less temperature check which was awesome because we all felt safe beyond that point. The tables were pretty scattered but yet organized and they even had barriers up to separate us from other tables which was a huge plus! They really implemented social distancing. We ordered soy garlic pork dumplings ($11.95), 30 piece wings ($35.95), 2 salmon avocado balls ($11.95 each), 2 bulgogi fried rice ($13.95 each), seasoned fries ($7.95), tteokbokki ($12.95), 3 beers, martini, and a mai tai. The pork fried dumplings brushed with Soy Garlic which were amazing. It was our first time getting this since the Boston locations do not have this. It was a little too fried but still so good. Their tteokbokki was a little off to me so I wouldn't suggest it here. It lacked flavor and the rice cakes and fish cakes were hard.. they are supposed to be chewy. Their seasoned fries were delicious. Finally discovered these so I won't go back to regular. Their chicken is just like the Boston location, perfectly double fried and lather with your choice of soy garlic or spicy. The food was phenomenal- best experience I've had here since I've been here and I can't wait to go back soon! I would highly suggest doing family style.. Or even coming here for lunch. Monday-Friday 11:15am to 2pm they have an awesome lunch special for only $10.25 that comes with the perfect portion- 8 piece wings and fries is my go to! I have been going to this restaurant for almost 8 years because of the good food but their take out service and their inability to resolve customer problems have gotten awful over the years. Our guest had ordered chicken and rice and as always they forget to pack the complete order and missed the rice. This is not the first time this has happened as they have charged me for sauce in the past and not provided me with one. Whoever is the person responsible managing take out needs to pay extra attention as Bonchon has ruined my experience few times already. Upon calling the restaurant regarding this issue- the manager Devin says "Oh they forgot your rice. I can't give you the refund but I can add it to a log that we manager and give you the rice ON THE HOUSE FOR FREE next time". That was the funniest thing I have heard someone in service industry say. This manager was supposed to call me and refund my money and it's been 10 days now and of course they have done nothing. Logic- So I pay for the rice that you forget to pack and upon asking for a refund you will give me store credit and have the audacity to call it FREE for an item I PAID for. Also I need to remember to ask for my $ 2.50 rice that is logged in their complaint book and ask for it next time I'm there. For all patrons- please know the service you will be getting with this type of management and mentality. read more

i ordered take out and ordered a side of pickle radish but they did not pack my radish. when i called back to inform them of this mistake the only thing the manager and hostess was willing to do was write my name and number down in a notebook so they can give me a free one next time. it's been brought to my attention that this is a common mistake they make since they have a list of peoples names in a notebook! i asked if they could offer me this in email so i can have proof and use this offer at my local bonchon in Salem since I was traveling when ordering from their Lowell location. Unfortunately, I was informed they could only give me a free one at this Lowell location and only take down my information to save in a notebook, otherwise, i can return to pick up the side of radish. I was not too fond of having to drive back and sit through work traffic again just so they could correct their mistake, so i just accepted the lost. i am disappointed that they did not have a better resolution for their mistake and especially disappointed that this has been made clear this is a common mistake this business makes without shame or any corrective plan to ensure costumers no longer are shorted their take out orders. if you plan on ordering take out at the Lowell bon chon, check your order thoroughly before leaving. Bonchon is the bomb diggity. IDGAF if it's "a chain" - some people have that "I'm too good for chain restaurants" mindset. Hey, I'm all about supporting local businesses too but that doesn't mean I'm too snobby for chain restaurants. When walking into any Bonchon - you just know you're gonna be guaranteed some dope AF food. Usually what brings the overall ratings down is the service. But if you're like me and you are just here for the food, Bonchon's always a safe bet. Korean fried chicken is always a little pricey BUT it's worth it. My friends and I got a large order of 30 wings to share for $33.95. SOOO crispy! SO good! Their spicy sauce is freakin' delicious. My Jamaican friend approves. It has the PERFECT kick. If you can't handle your spice, you probably can't handle Bonchon's spicy sauce but I'd say YOLO and get it anyways because it's THAT good. Their soy garlic flavor is pretty tasty too but ya girl likes her wangs SPICEHH. It also comes with pickled radish if you need a refreshing palette cleanser. We ordered takoyaki and the salmon avocado ball to start off with. Both are great choices for appetizers. The salmon avocado ball is a little small but the menu says its a whomping 1060 calories...which I JUST don't believe. Their bulgogi bibimbap is solid although bibimbap is hard to screw up. I really like Bonchon's bibimbap though. What surprised me was their house fried rice. It was some of the best fried rice I've ever had (not THE best but it's ranked pretty high up there) - SO flavorful! After removing flour from its surface, it turns out none of the shrimp have their shrimp line removed. It is very unhealthy and unsafe for customer to eat shrimp with its line since it contains all the feces and dirty stuff of the creature from its intestine. I feel like every time I come back theres just a little less flavor and a little less chicken. The wings look more like nuggets, except less meat because theres a bone inside. The reviews haven't been great, but this is not how you should win people back since prices haven't changed. Im alright with smaller wings cause again I love Bonchon. Unfortunately between the wings or the pickled radish, something got me sick. After trying out most of the restaurants out here, it's safe to say this is the only place you can get some good ole Korean fried chicken in the area. I've only been here for takeout but the bar looks hip and fully stocked with several tv mounted on the wall. There's also a dining room are in the back. Seasoned Fries- As far as fries goes, this place holds the candle in the area. Very flavorful and yeah, frying stuff is their specialty. Soy Garlic Wings- Always a must here. Juicy on the inside and packed with flavor on the crispy outside. Soy Garlic Strips- I seem to have bad experiences with strips where it's comes out tough. This one was tender and you still get the same crispness like you would if you were ordering the wings. Spicy Strips- Spicy as hell. And we didn't order this. Overall Service: We would never order any spicy food from here because we don't have the tolerance for it. With that being said, when we called for takeout, I specifically asked for Soy Garlic Strips and when we got back to try these out, my mouth was on fire. That's no fun! So I called them to complain and the girl said "well, you ordered spicy because it's on the receipt". Obviously the person who took the call was not trained properly because it might have been one of their staff who entered it wrong and it's quite ridiculous when you're telling a customer it's their fault they ordered something incorrectly. I immediately wanted to speak the the manager and he was very courteous and offered to have the strips delivered.
