So glad I decided to try this location. I love the one in Sacramento ca so I was so excited to know there was one near me in Hampton VA. I tried the Norfolk location first as it is the closest to me. I was super disappointed because it was nothing like the one I had back in cali. The boneless wings was like popcorn chicken toss in the spicy sauce but wasn't fully coated. The bibimbap didn't come with any sauce. I was beyond disappointed. I knew I was going to be in this area so I looked up korean food and found bonchon so I was like, yes, ill give this one a try. And to my surprise, it was actually tasty and reminded me of the California location. I was super happy. My husband finally got to try the hype I keep giving him about this place. He was disappointed too the last time. But now he got to try the whole hype of this place from this location. I would not go back to the norfolk location but instead if I'm ever in this area, come back here or try the other locations near there. But I say, go get yourself some of their wings because it is bomb. Crispy to my liking and the sauce is so so flavorful. I also didn't get any sauce for the bibimbap I ordered here but I do have the ingredients at home so I was able to make it. I also was eating it with seaweed because its so so good. Must try. I am so upset about the experience I received at Bonchon on my last visit. Me and my family usually eat here quite often and tip very well. However this experience was not so good. We were first in line and waited ten minutes to be seated, once seated two other parties came in after us. They were seated promptly, waited on, and received their drinks before we were even greeted. Another 20 minutes have went by and we eventually got up from our seat to ask when will we receive some service. The waiter came and took our order while not making eye contact with no one in our party. Every time I come here I have to order at least two things off the menu because everything is so good. The chicken is the best fried chicken I've ever had. I recommend it to everybody. The servers are always friendly and talkative and they remember me and my kids every time. There's also a pretty cool chalk board to entertain my kids when they're done eating. I've eaten a lot of Bonchon in my time and this was not the right Bonchon experience at all. Wings were shriveled, tough, and leathery. They were tiny -- like the size you'd expect at a corporate pizza restaurant. Spicy were mixed with the soy garlic, too. Very inconsistent experience. Bonchon is delicious. The potstickers are a favorite appetizer: get the half soy garlic/half hot. Their seasoned fries are so good- definitely worth getting, even though they don't seem to go with the Korean theme. The chicken tacos are my favorite with their hot chicken- I go there just for those. Only con is that their beer selection isn't great, but the food makes up for it. read more

I got sick after eating here. My sister and I went for a late lunch and were the only ones in the resturant besides employees who were sitting at a table towards the back eating and hanging out clearly visible to customers. My sister ordered the chicken Katsu and me the pork buns and fries. I was nauseous later that night and I hadn't really have anything else that day since I felt sick before I could eat dinner. I don't think it was rotten food but I think whoever made the chicken didn't change their gloves when they made my food. It kept me up most of the night and while I didn't expel anything I felt like I wanted to die. Also I thought the price was a little ridiculous for 3 pork buns and fries it cost $17. Maybe it's a better deal if you make it to lunch. Overall I don't think I'd go to a Bonchon again. read more

Pretty good! Ate here with my mom yesterday. I got the chicken katsu and she got the bulgogi fried rice. I'm pretty familiar with chicken katsu as my grandmother is Korean and I regularly visit my family in Hawaii and this is one of my favorites. I have to say that the katsu at Bonchon was good but not great...it was fried perfectly but only had a little of the katsu sauce which is the best part! It was also covered with like a chipotle mayo or something that is not authentic and I didn't care for. Unfortunately it was all over! When we asked for extra katsu sauce, we were told it's a 95 cent charge- yikes. My mom wasn't exactly overwhelmed with her fried rice. It was hard to pick out the bulgogi in it, very small pieces and not a lot in there. The rice was not very well seasoned. We ordered the fried shrimp shumai and were bowled over-delicious! We finished our meal with the Mochi ice cream. We love mochi and are used to eating it in Hawaii so we're happy to see that on the menu. I'm not shouting that it's the best chicken as others claim it to be but it is pretty good and different than your normal fried chicken. I definitely prefer the garlic over the spicy. After all the good things I heard about this place, I had to try it.... and I was a little disappointed. While the food was good, it wasn't what everyone described. I visited during lunch so that I could try it for the lunch special price. I got the 8 wings (sweet crunch and soy garlic) with the seasoned fries. The fries were really good. I was disappointed with the chicken wings at this location. The wings didn't have their signature super crispy and crunchy crust typical for Korean double-fried chicken. They were still tasty, but just not exactly what I was expecting in terms of the texture; the crust was a little thin in my opinion. The spicy wings weren't as spicy as the ones I've gotten at the Henrico location. Maybe it was the cook at this restaurant. They also don't let you do half soy garlic and half spicy fried chicken here, which they did at the Henrico location. The ambiance was great. I ordered pickup on 12/20/2021, to be picked up at 6:55 pm. I got to the restaurant at 6:54, and was told by the bartender that my order would be 7 more minutes. At 7:15, the bartender told me the kitchen would be 5 more minutes! Now I was a little annoyed. I asked the bartender why for $55.90, Bon Chon could not accurately tell me when it would be ready. That's when she volunteered that she couldn't make the food cook faster. She mumbled something about the manager's current workload, and I asked if I could see him/her. She went to the kitchen to ask the manager to come do some damage control, but then returned to tell me the manager wasn't coming out, and had chicken to cook. It was then I determined I would not be back here. The food was finally brought out at 7:23 pm. When I got the food home, the fries were cold, the onion rings were cold, and 2 out of 3 entrees were cold. It appears that the only hot food was what was seemingly re-fired, because of a mistake made by the order-taker or the kitchen. The worst part of the entire ordeal was the rudeness of that bartender. When she finally brought out the cold nastiness that was to be my family's dinner, she acted like I had wronged her. She was short when she asked if I needed condiments, and then placed the bag with the completed order on the counter in utter silence, with a blank stare and no apology, as if to ask if I wanted this sh!t or not. Ran across this location while shopping and loving it even more. This location has more of a selection than the one in Downtown Norfolk, but I am not trying to say one is better than the other, just different. This location has a more modern look, but comfortable at the same time. The Korean Fried Chicken and Soy Garlic Pot Stickers are still the best. We also had the House Fried Rice which was good. The Pot Stickers could have had some more sauce on it, but nothing really to complain about. I would keep this on my list if I am ever in this area again. The first time I came to this location was the very end of November. I ordered pickup during lunch. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly. The food was absolutely great. I couldn't have had a better experience. The second time was about a week later. The hostess was a pink haired young lady. I let her know that I was there to pick up two orders and said my name. She said it would be one money. She came back a minute later with the bags and I realized I didn't ask for chopsticks or ketchup. I asked the server I saw and just then the hostess came back and helped me. She seemed to be irritated for some reason. Right before leaving I actually checked the bags and saw that there was no spicy mayo with my order which was standard as far as I knew with the combo I ordered. It was in the first order without asking which the ketchup was as well. I asked about this and the hostess got angry and said that spicy may didn't come with lunch combos. I explained that it did the week before when I ordered and she told me that wasn't the case and that I would have to pay for it if I wanted it. I told her that was fine. I asked how much it was. The young lady told it would be $0.50. I didn't have change so I handed her a $5 bill. The hostess is actually glaring at me while counting the change, then she places my change on the counter when I had my hand our waiting for her to give it to me. I'm not sure if you know, but this is textbook passive aggressive behavior for those working in cash handling jobs. I took my change and she went to the back to grab my sauce. Throughout this entire transaction she is also calling me sir. I ignored this in the moment, but I was literally wearing 4 inch heels while I was there. It was clear she had a problem with me for some reason. I emailed through the website after leaving and never heard anything from them so I assume I won't be back to this location.
