Amazing food, always dissatisfied by small things. Won't consider coming back after this time

This is my first visit to any Bonchon, so I don't have any other location to compare it to. I am definitely a fan! We were seated at a booth immediately. Hubby and I ordered 20 of their wings and split them 50/50 with their spicy and ginger soy. We also ordered the salmon avocado ball! OMG! This was sooo delicious! The only thing that I didn't like about it was that it was a total of 1060 calories! Thank God we shared it! Their combination of spicy mayo sauce and unagi sauce on the plate really was the icing on the cake! The chicken wings were amazing! I liked the garlic soy much better than the spicy, only because the spicy was a bit too spicy for my taste. The crispiness of the skin is just too good!! We also ordered the french fries which were also very yummy! They have just enough salt and parsley and also comes with 2 different types of dipping sauce (ketchup and spicy mayo). Let's not forget their mocha ice-cream! 3 different flavors for $6. Coconut was on point and my fave! Can't wait to come again! read more

I've been wanting to eat at a Bonchon restaurant for a while & finally decided on thIs one. I ordered the Bulgogi, extra spicy. They brought out 2 sauces, one deadlier than the other. Be sure to taste a little at first to check your heat level. I loved both!! When my nose runs and my scalp sweats, I know I'm in heaven. Bring a handkerchief! Huge portion. Eleven flavors of exotic ice cream, you get 3 mix & match. Very nice manager! Try the pickled radish to "clean your palate" before dessert. Great experience. I'll be back!! read more

Second time coming to this location and I decided to try sometime that I normally wouldn't order. I opted for the Sesame Ginger Salad and saw that it said there was a $1 charge to upgrade to salmon over tofu. When I placed the order on the phone the price came out to more than it showed online for the Mechanicsville online menu, so I took a picture of the screen and drove there to pickup my food. When I realized that there were new menus in the store showing an additional charge of $3 for the salmon instead of $1, I showed the manager my screenshot and said that's what's online so that's why I ordered the salmon. Rather than honor the online price, I was asked to pay the revised menu price. The salad was just "ok" but certainly wasn't worth $13, especially when I didn't realize I'd be paying that much for it. read more

Everything is really salty especially the soy garlic pot stickers. Salty to the point of your lips feels it. The chicken was good. For being relatively new, this place did a good job with living up to what Bon Chon is known for. The appetizer, sides, and chicken were on point. The staff were friendly, the price to food ratio was great, and the food came out at a reasonable time. My disappointment was with the rice, which being Asian is a pretty big deal because it sets the tone for the meal. The type of rice, short grain Korean/Japanese rice, was correct but the texture and temperature tasted almost refrigerated or day old. This location doesn't quite make their wings like the ones you get in Northern Virginia. Usually the chicken comes out piping hot but these seem like they have cooled for a while before getting served. Because of this, the skins don't quite have the characteristic crunch. read more

Wow!!! I was excited when I saw their menu and hoped the food was as good as it described in their menu. I tried the Korean fried chicken, and BF had the bulgogi tacos with a side of kimchi slaw. We also had fried pickles for appetizers which came with a spicy dipping sauce. There was some kick in the sauce and the pickles had a nice crunch, the coating was thick and fried to a nice crisp. We enjoyed them and the other items we ordered. The Korean fried chicken was bomb and super duper delicious!!! Tried both spicy and garlic and no complaints about either, my lips were on fire from the spicy ( in a good way!! I love heat) and the kimchi slaw brought the heat too. It was a great first time at Bonchon and I will be going back, especially because there are other things on the menu I want to taste as well. Better late than never am I right? Well I finally decided to stop in and check out Bonchon and I was not disappointed! I decided to order a lunch special (5 wings-soy garlic + 1 side seasoned fries). I LOVED the soy garlic wings. The seasoned fries are basically truffles fries and was the perfect side item. The seasoned fries are $1 extra but oh so worth it. I placed a walk in order and was out the door within 10mins. I like the food, price/quality of what I ordered, and the attentiveness from the staff! I shall be back again soon. read more

This place will always be my favorite in VA so far!! The most delicious chicken I have ever tasted on the east coast especially here in Virginia! My wife, her friends and I went in for the dinner and I can definitely say it was worth it! The dinner dishes I ordered there were House Fried Rice Chicken, Salmon Avocado Ball, Bull Dak, Tteokbokki, Takoyaki, Bibambap with Bulgogi. We 6 people split the bill so I believe it was around $11/person which is not bad at all. Speaking of which, I am craving for those dishes now especially Salmon Avocado Ball even though I am back from VA. I will definitely go again Christmas Eve and enjoy my dinner again but I hope to try for lunch special as I heard other people said wings are tasty with the decent price. The Dinner for bon chon was definitely worth it because it filled me up really good and the service and our waiter was very sweet and accommodating can't wait to come back soon! Bonchon usually does not fail at getting rave reviews from my crew, but today they let the whole team down. Bought a 20 piece with coleslaw as the side and a kimchi coleslaw as extra. The regular coleslaw is typically about 4-6 ounces. We got about 2 in our container. Given that the 20 pieces serving size is for 3-4 people the tiny side is laughable in the first place. Used to LOVE their boneless strips but they've changed the recipe or something. Now they are chewy, preformed nuggets coated in their sauce. The kind that doesn't resemble real chicken at all. This location is one of my and my family's favorite restaurants to go to. The Salmon avocado ball is a must have and looks and tastes simply delicious. If you are picking up the time it takes is usually around 10-25 minutes for them to cook and bring out. If ordering online or over the phone I suggest calling in 25 minutes prior if you're in a rush like some of us can be in. The service is great and the workers seem to be fairly young. But every time family and I come in it's nice to see that we are remembered. The only thing I believe that is bad is that their spicy food is EXTREMELY spicy. We sat in here for over an hour and no food. We came here on our lunch break and the place was empty so there was no excuse. I then noticed customers coming in after us, order their food, eat and leave and we were still waiting. We decided to get our food to go and notified our waitress (who was wonderful). When the kitchen sent our to go food out it was put together in 2 big bags which wouldn't have been a problem if we all didn't have separate orders. We then had to go through the bags and figure out who's order was who's which took another 20 minutes due to half of the orders not being labeled!!! This was an awful experience and i will never recommend this establishment to anyone. read more

So I ordered some wings from the BonChon Mechanicsville location for curbside pick up. I got there early and the parking lot was fairly full so I went in to pick up the order instead. The had one server, a young girl wearing her hair in two pink buns. I went to the bar, the bartender was on the phone, so I waited, no big deal. The server with the pink buns, passed me to give her orders to her table. When she came back she asked 'how can I help you?' I said, I'm here for my pickup; it's behind you. She turned around, threw a fork in the bag and then threw the bag on the counter. WTH! I had to go to a meeting but I called when I got home and asked for the manager. When she asked what it was regarding and I told her, she said she was the manager and then apologized after saying she didn't think she threw it. The chicken is good, but don't thrown my order at me! Especially after tipping you when I paid before getting my food! Bad attitude mars good food! Be advised! read more

An "Americanized" version of Korean food. Reminded us an American Chinese food. Had Salmon Ball and Jap Che and the Ball was full of fried crams with mayo rather then vegies and kani salad we used to, and the noodle had over sweetened sauce. Spicy mayo is vey good. Chicken is hit or miss it's either good or so hurt and chewy you can't eat it. Seasoned fries are yummy.

I really love the food here... I really do. However there have been some changes over the last year or so that are not for the better. 1. The size of the chicken is smaller... by over half. I do not mind paying for my food, but give me a piece of chicken larger than a McDonald's chicken nugget. It isn't fair to charge me for 30 pieces of meat when several of them are that small and the rest are only a bit larger. 2. Why is everything so dry? Why are you so stingy with the sauce. Is there a world wide shortage we need to plan for? If you do not ask for sauce, it comes out VERY dry. So dry, it can be difficult to swallow. When you ask for extra sauce (at an extra $1.75) the chicken is still dry. To me, extra means there is extra sauce for me to dip my chicken in, not enough to make it moist (and i hate that word). 3. Why is service so slow? I get it takes time to make the chicken, it says so on the menu. However, the waitstaff, while pleasant, is slower than molasses on a cold winter day. Plan for you drink refills to come is 15 minute intervals, if that often. If you ask for something extra, like a knife, plan on asking twice. Now with all this said, I really love the food. But I would recommend saving yourself time and getting take out, with extra, extra sauce. read more

The food is delicious, if you can get waited on. We got seated right away, but then ignored. There were two other tables with customers, and they already had their food. Great to see this chain expand. Some might complain because the chicken is a little pricey but just try it and you won't care anymore. Even the spicy isn't that spicy and is just downright good. Other menu items are great too. Steamed bao buns are a favorite. Some of the appetizers could be a little bigger but once you take a bite you don't really care anymore read more

This is my favorite fried chicken place. The chicken is Crispy, Crunchy and tastes SO GOOD! Soy Garlic flavor is my favorite. They also offer Korean and Asian dishes. We ordered Bulgogi and Salmon Avocado Ball, both of which taste absolutely Delicious. The service was great. Our server was friendly and attentive. If only 0 stars was an option... FIRST off, the owner was cursing loudly at a server in front of my 6 year old daughter. The poor girl looked like she was going to cry, all over dropping an order of wings. UNCALLED FOR I also overheard her telling said server that she would have to pay for the wings...not sure how legal that is When we got our food, my daughter's chicken strips had a hair in it. Have eaten here a couple of times and never any good. Ordered the bowl one time it was so hot that it burnt everything in it. Waiter tried to get me to wait for another after we had already waited forever to get the first one. Have me a hard time about asking to remove it from tab when I ate a couple of bites. I was really excited to see this place. After having spent some time in Korea I was looking foward to korean wings. We arrived around 1130 and were promptly seated. We ordered the wings and potstickers. We were told the wings would take 15-20min and were a little surprised as we were the only people in there. When we received our potstickers they were lukewarm and when the wings arrived, they DID not remind me of Korean chicken. The chicken itself was flavorless and the sauce was just slapped on top of the chicken. The breading was too thick and the grease tasted like it was old. Did not enjoy this! One thing I HATE WITH A PASSION is bad customer service. Fridays are usually our order out days. I decided to try Bonchon today and was a bad idea. I order almost $60 worth of food which turned out to not be a lot of food by the way. One of the menu items I ordered was the family size meal which consisted of wings, 2 sides and plain fried rice. I opted for seafood fried rice (which was suppose to have shrimps, scallops and squid, according to the waitress) an additional cost of $4.50. When I got home and checked my order, I realized the seafood fried rice only had pieces of small size shrimps. My order was also supposed to have 2 orders of coleslaw, there was only 1 in my bag. Needless to say I called them and they asked me to bring it back so they can fix it. I kept my cool, drove back there with all the order. When I got there the host went and spoke with a lady, I'm assuming is the owner, came back and said the lady said she watched them make the fried rice and it had everything in there. I said ok, well it's here so she can come and see. This is when it gets exciting, she came with a spoon, searched through the fried rice and picked out 12 small size shrimps and nothing else . I said you sat here and went through this food so you can prove me right? She said she doesn't know what I did with it after I left, basically I picked out whatever else seafood was supposed to be in it, left the shrimps and took it back for more. Apparently, it should have 7 piece of each seafood type in there. So, I guess I picked out everything but the shrimps and then cooked 5 piece of shrimps and added it to theirs before returning it. She had the nerve to ask if I wanted another fried rice after that . I asked for my money for the rice and left without the coleslaw because I wouldn't trust to eat anything from there after this. When I was leaving she said "are you sure you don't want us to make another rice for you?" I said "I said, I would have appreciateda better customer service from the start" and walked away. @bonchon mechanicville, before you go into business at least consider a course in CUSTOMER SERVICE 101.
