I haven't had great luck at wing stop, and with Buffalo Wild Wings gone from short pump we decided to try out cocky rooster, and let me tell you, we were extremely happy with the food. We were starving and wanted some left overs. Ended up ordering online 2 orders of 15 wings, 30 total. We were able to divide each order into two different sauces giving us 4 different sauce tossed wings. Absolutely incredible wings. The wings had a ton of meat on them, we were able to ask for all flats for a small fee which was awesome, they're our favorite. They were ready as soon as I walked in the door. Maybe a 15-20 minute tops turnaround on the online order. We got: -Kickin Cowboy (Honey BBQ) -Truffalo (Truffled Buffalo) -Vampire Parm (Garlic Parmesan) -K-Town Rolex (Korean BBQ) -The ranch was in larger to go cups than I was expecting so I was really able to give these wings a ranch bath, didn't run out of it. First, when you walk in your are greeted by a kiosk. No people. YOU input your order on the screen, it asks for a tip - no humans yet. You pay. Somebody yells your name and YOU pick it up. When done, YOU bus your own table. No humans. So what is the tip for? 5 wings and fries is like $13. No drink. A little pricey but ok. The wings; Garlic Buffalo, with ranch fries. The fries were good. Coated with a batter. So if you like regular fries, not sure you would like them. The wings tasted OK. The sauce was pretty mild and packed with I assume jarred garlic bits. The wings were soggy and swimming in sauce. I ate 3. No point in wet soggy wings. The portion was very large - cook the wings longer? I am not sure of the reviews. This was my first time at the Cocky Rooster Short Pump location. I haven't been to the original location in years because it was usually on the pricier side for the portion. I was pleasantly surprised with this visit. The side portions were extremely generous for smalls and the chicken tenders were more like chicken breasts. They have so many sauces and dry rubs to choose from. I like that they allow you to choose a dry rub for your fries to spice them up and set them apart from standard fries. Extra sauces like ranch are an extra charge and they provide plenty to make it worth it. This location was very busy on a Friday night. I highly recommend ordering take out in advance. Magical Food We got a basket of 10 fried boneless wings tossed in mild buffalo sauce, a small bag of buffalo ranch fries, a drink and a complementary cup of the pickle coleslaw. Everything was fantastic. The chicken was crispy to the last wing, flavor of the sauce was excellent. Fries were crispy with great flavor with the buffalo each rub. We ordered a small and the bag was huge. I don't know if that was a mistake but if it was truly a small there would never be a reason to order the large as it could easily feed 4. Ranch dipping sauce was excellent and the coleslaw was surprisingly great. Service Food came out quickly and the staff was friendly. I was a little taken back that there was no one to take our order only iPads but when I was having trouble someone came over to help and was friendly. Ambiance It is a small place with half a dozen tables. Decor is nothing special but it is clean. Price Our meal was $26 but it easily fed both me and my wife so split between us wasn't bad. These are the best wings in the RVA for sure. They are meaty, crispy, and the sauces pack a punch. The buffalo/truffalo isn't greasy and the smoked wings are also amazing. The fries are amazing. They have to optional to get the dry rubs on the fries and they are bartered. I crave this weekly! I got the smoked wings and sweet potatoes fry combo. For the wings I got the vampire parm (garlic parmesan) and for the fries the cool ranch rub. The smoked wings had a good Smokey smell and taste to it, the meat was juicy. I would've liked it a bit more if they could've been a bit more crispy. The sweet potatoes fries were also really good, sweet and salty although didn't taste like ranch. The serving seize was perfect for $13. I started eating my food in the car and we had to turn the car around to see if this place was real and try some more flavors! The K-Town Rolex (Korean BBQ) boneless chicken was saucy, crunchy and full of flavor. I'm talking "what else can I dip in this stuff?" The Lemon Pep Talk (Lemon Pepper Dry Rub) bone-in was also exceptional. Somehow you could taste each spice individually without losing the lemon zest. It was a journey of flavor. I loved the murals and the hip hop theme throughout the building but one of the best things about this spot is the people. I was welcomed, the workers were cooking, happy, had good music playing and were interacting with everyone that came in. That is an anomaly these days. This Rooster deserved 5 gold chains . I received an awesome-sounding coupon for six free wings through one of their online ads, only to find out that they don't honor it as written. Major bummer, and I'm not a fan of bait and switch tactics. The ambiance of the place it pretty weird: it's jammed into a small unit with their kitchen taking up half of that. There's a handful of seats but this place seems largely geared toward take-out. And boy howdy is it pricy for what they give you: $12 just for a sandwich without sides, and six wings almost as much. A customer's first time in your establishment shouldn't be a disappointing one, and these days with so many options, that first bad impression becomes the only one they'll get. Soooo good. The chicken tenders are HUGE. You get two sauces with the tenders and they just the large size ramekins which is a huge plus. We got the liquid gold, medium Buffalo and ranch. All were delicious. I got the game six sandwich and it was very good. My only (very minor) complaint is that the cheese wasn't melted on the sandwich but that's ok, it was still tasty! It was SO GOOD & SO HOT. If you like a flavorful hot sauce, get this. If you don't like to sweat, don't order this. 4/5 stars for a couple reasons.. 1. Ordering is done at kiosks and there are a few tables. It definitely seems like this is meant to be more of a to go place, I just felt odd sitting in there. My food took a little while, not super long but longer than I expected being the only one there. I ordered boneless wings-half with coach's garlic buff and the other half K-town Rolex. Decided to finally try them after hearing about them from a friend, and seeing they had a location not far for me in the Short Pump area. Ordered to-go for me and my mom. Before going in to actually order, I sat in my car on the phone with my mom for a good lil while, us both contemplating if we actually wanted to shell out a smooth $25 for wings and fries (not even a drink ). I should've trusted my gut off rip ‍ I ordered 10pc "mix&match" (no side, no drink); $17. Minimum of 10 wings for 2 flavors. I had the "Anaconda" (sweet&spicy BBQ) and the "LL Cool Ranch" flavors. Idk where they were going for with the "LL Cool Ranch" flavor, but NOTHINGGG about them gave ranch flavor. It gave they fried them plain (no preseasoning), then doused them in Lawrys and a lil black pepper after the fact. The Anaconda flavor was a lil too spicy for me. But I'm not a big spicy/heat fan. The sauce wasn't bad, but again they tasted like they weren't preseasoned before being cooked, just tossed in sauce. My mom had the Vampire Parm (garlic Parmesan) and the Sweet&Tangy flavors. She also had a large fry, dusted with their "everything" seasoning ($23 total, also not including a drink). She was thinking the same thing "everything" seasoning would be a dry blend of all the house seasoning, turned out to be just the "everything" bagel seasoning, sesame seeds and all ‍ Wasn't a fan of the garlic parm. The sauce seemed too loose, watered down. And the sweet&tangy wings were bout the worst of them all. Tasted like they added water to your typical sweet&sour sauce you'd get from the Chinese restaurant. All the wings themselves were tough to the bite, and had no flavor other than whatever sauce they were tossed in. All in all, definitely NOT worth the all the money.
