This place is pretty bad. All of the KFC (korean fried chicken) is basically just like jumbo sized buffalo wings with korean style sauces...which are not very flavorful at all. Also got the pork belly bao which was essentially flavorless. You can do so, so much better with the baos right down the street at Mecha. The fried chicken in Mecha's KFC bao is actually 10 times better than any of the KFC at Bon Chon. The only thing redeeming about this place is the drink menu, some very creative options. I saw another review calling this place the Applebees of Korean fried chicken, that is a very, very apt description. Skip this place. Huge disappointment. I have had foods from here for many times and overall okay. Chicken is very Korean style with crispy and tender texture together. I have ate tteokbokki from here a lot but this one is sometimes good sometimes bad; sometimes uncooked, too salty, or missing the ingredients (they read my request wrongly and omitted fishcakes in today's order by ubereats). The tastes of foods are keep changing guessing they do not follow the manual strictly. Mandoo are ok good to try. However, the problem from this restaurant is that THEY NEVER APOLOGIZE. I have two times of order missing and one time uncooked food and called them for complaining. What they have been saying is "Contact uber and reorder, get credit, refund etc...". Without any apology. Bonchon is franchise Korean restaurant and probably this new haven employees must have been trained from headquarter or by themselves. It is recommended to get trained again seriously. My husband and I have been anxiously awaiting an opportunity to try Bonchon. We shared the Korean Tacos, Lunch combo chicken, and Bibimbop lunch. The Chicken was crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. I am from Hawaii and Korean Chicken is different there. The tacos were just ok. They may have been better if they added kimchi for a more korean twist. The Bibimbop was just ok. We sat at the bar because it was busy during lunch. The service was good. I am giving them one star because I was overcharged. I believe the Bibimbop lunch was supposed to be around $10. I was charged $14.95. I could not remember the lunch price at the time and I usually don't question restaurant bills. In hindsight now knowing what the price should have been, I was cheated. So my advice is go for the chicken but know what you should be charged when you get your receipt. read more

This place is awful. The service and people are rude including the manager, Bill and the girl behind the bar. Our family is visiting this town for the first time, looked for Asian restaurant and found this place. Walked 10 minuets to get there, ordered a couple of dishes and came back to the hotel room found out that they did NOT put any utensils let alone napkins. We had to go back to the place in 40 degrees but no one apologized about what happened. We were just appalled. Do not recommend this place at all!! read more

The zucchini fries were so overcooked, the zucchini inside was practically mush. Outsides were way too dark and over fried. An order of japchae was also left out when we opened the delivery. I just came back from the soft opening of the New Haven Bonchon. The chicken is great!!! The texture of it makes it so unique. I tried 1/2 hot. It initially caught me off guard since it isn't the type of hot I'm used to, but after the first one I got used to it. The soy is also nice as well. The surprise of the meal comes in the form of pickled radish which tastes amazing. I have a new snack food! Its a vegetable but almost tastes like a pear. The location isn't particularly large and doesn't have a parking lot however its a welcome addition to the New Haven food scene. It was a soft opening so service wasn't perfect meaning my food wasn't as warm/hot as I'd like but I'm sure this will be ironed out during these opening moments. I love Korean chicken, and have been to other stores of this franchise before. I came here first day I moved in because I was so excited to have a Bonchon so close by! Being that it was my first day in New Haven, and I was by myself, I didn't want to buy too much and the chicken dishes are a bit big for one person. So I decided to try their different items on the menu. I got the avocado salad ball, and I am so regretful. It is a kani salad with avocado cubes wrapped into a ball of salmon strips and fried. The kani salad was somewhat weird tasting, but I didn't think much of it. However, shortly afterwards my stomach started to turn. I had a very mild breakfast of coffee and biscuits, and I hadn't had lunch, so I know whatever went on came from Bonchon. I was so ill all weekend long! NVD. I felt horrible. I am so disappointed, and I don't know that I can come back now. If other people wanted to go, I might go, but I will not willingly go on my own. read more

Was looking for a Korean restaurant in town and found out BonChon has more then just fried chickens. They had few of the popular Korean dishes on their menu so I decided to give it a try. I ordered bibimbap, ddokbokki and spicy chicken taco and they all tasted very good. Floor service was great and their ambience was even better. I LOVE K-POP and they were playing my favorite song when I walked in. LOL. As a customer who loves Korean food and their music, I would recommend this place. Was excited to try this place after having just recently tried bi bim bap and Korean chicken wings on a trip to Boston. I was disappointed with both at Bonchon. Bonchon is a fast food chain not an authentic Korean restaurant and it shows in their food. The KFC wings were very crunchy as they should be but lacked flavor. I didn't taste soy garlic at all. They might as well have been naked wings. The bi bim bop was just ok, again lacked flavor just like the wings. We also ordered the filet mignon sliders and there was so little meat you couldn't even taste meat. I made one slider out of two (why bother with the bread) and still tasted like there was no meat. We had chicken tacos which were better than the sliders but not great. French Fries were very good, probably the best thing out of everything we tried. Edamame lacked salt. Oh and it's very very loud due to high ceilings. Will I go back, no, so not worth the calories. Would I go back if I was drunk, twenty something and the bars in New Haven just closed? We ordered a bunch of things off the menu. The salmon avocado ball was my favorite thing that I ate, but the wings were also excellent. Unfortunately I took my pictures after the salmon avocado was already gone. I thought the spicy wings were pretty spicy, so beware. The other sauce was kind of sweet to me which I liked. The shrimp shumai was your usual shumai, nothing special. The octopus dumplings were different and tasty but overall not very memorable. Same with the bimbop, tasty, good quality, but not very memorable. I definitely look at this place as a great spot for wings and apps. The drinks they offer are pretty good. More for the person who likes sweeter drinks, but they have a full bar and a decent beer selection as well. I'd like to see them offer a happy hour and some other wing flavors. But will definitely be back for more wings, salmon avocado balls and to try a few other apps off the menu. read more

Amazing food!!!! We tried the fried chicken strips; the pieces are very large and tasty. Warning: the spicy is very very spicy!!! Great lunch! The chicken strips, wings,beef wrap and seasoned fries were all tasty, well seasoned and spot on. We were less enthused with the octopus balls and the kim chee. Didn't seem to be much octopus in the balls and the kim chee was your standard oriental market stuff. Had the lunch special. 6 pieces of soy garlic wings - very good and highly recommend for first timers. 6 pieces of spicy hot - too spicy even for a person like me who loves extra spicy hot food. So I do not recommend it for those that cant handle a lot of spice. Both boxes of wings did not include a side which they were supposed to include. Also order the Bibimbap with steak. My advise is to dine-in for the bibimbap. The TOGO bibimbap had very little steak meat, small portions of vegetables and a lot of rice - so it weighs heavy but not worth it and somewhat dry.
